Central nervous targets for the treatment of bladder dysfunction - Yoshimura - 2013 - Neurourology and Urodynamics - Wiley...
The functions of the lower urinary tract, to store and periodically release urine, are dependent on the activity of smooth and striated muscles in the urinary bladder, urethra, and external urethral sphincter. This activity is in turn controlled by neural circuits in the brain, spinal cord, and peripheral ganglia. ...http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/nau.22455/full

Effects of apomorphine and L-dopa on the parkinsonian bladder - Aranda - 1993 - Neurourology and Urodynamics - Wiley Online...
Neurogenic bladder frequently occurs in Parkinson's disease. Detrusor hyperreflexia is a consequence of nigrostriatal dopamine depletion, whereas the cause of hyporeflexia remains unclear. We compared the results of cystometry and urethral profilometry with and without apomorphine (and L dopa) in 12 idiopathic parkinsonians with urinary disorders free of dopaminergic treatment. Whereas hyperreflexic patients improved with apomorphine, and to a lesser extent with L dopa, these drugs had no effect on hyporeflexic patients. These results confirm the role of dopaminergic lesions in the occurrence of bladder hyperreflexia and the possible implication of nondopaminergic lesions in the occurrence of hyporeflexia. ...http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/nau.1930120302/abstract
Urothelial mucosal signaling and the overactive bladder-ICI-RS 2013 - Birder - 2014 - Neurourology and Urodynamics - Wiley...
There is abundant evidence that the lower urinary tract (LUT) mucosal layer is involved both in mechanosensory functions that regulate bladder contractile activity and in urethral sensation. Changes to the mucosa can be associated with a number of bladder pathologies. For example, alterations of the urothelium and underlying lamina propria at both the molecular and structural levels have been reported in both patients and animals associated with disorders such as bladder pain syndrome and diabetic cystopathy. In contrast to the urinary bladder, much less is known about the urothelium/lamina propria of the bladder neck/proximal urethra. There are important gender differences in the outflow region both anatomically and with respect to innervation, hormonal sensitivity, and location of the external urethral sphincter. There is reasonable evidence to support the view that the mucosal signaling pathway in the proximal urethra is important for normal voiding, but it has also been speculated that the ...http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/nau.22604/abstract
Influence of a distraction task on pelvic floor muscle contraction - Thubert - 2014 - Neurourology and Urodynamics - Wiley...
The mental distraction task led to a 3.98 times greater reaction time (RT), (P = 0.00001 Wilcoxon's test). The RT increased from 217 (IQR: 170-270) to 779 msec (IQR: 550-1,025, P , 0.0001) when the EAS contraction was combined with PASAT. However, the maximum EAS EMG activity was weaker during PASAT than in the absence of a mental distraction task: 0.0850 mv versus 0.0701 mv, that is, 1.21 times weaker (P = 0.00077, Wilcoxon's test). Finally, when the two conditions (respectively with and without the mental distraction task) were compared, no significant difference was found in the area under the EAS EMG activity curve (0.0157 mv sec vs. 0.0162 mv sec, ratio 1.01, P = 0.52). ...http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/nau.22524/full
