ICU-Protocol.Summary Profuse and tenacious tracheal secretions are a significant factor impeding the weaning process in mechanically ventilated patients in the intensive care unit (ICU). In homeopathy, high dilutions of plant extracts, minerals, and other biological substances are used as remedies for the treatment of illness, which is based on the 'Law of Similars' (the higher the dilution, the stronger the effect). Kali Bichromicum (potassium dichromate) is a drug that is commonly used in homeopathy, mostly for conditions involving profuse, stringy, tenacious mucous and tracheal secretions. A recent randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study found a statistically significant effect of this remedy on improving the amount of tracheal secretion, timing to extubation and discharge from the ICU among critically ill patients, with no side effects observed.. The proposed study will compare the efficacy of Kali bichromicum 10-60 (C30) versus placebo in ...

*  Ligandinuria in nephrotoxic acute tubular necrosis. - Semantic Scholar
Ligandin (GSH-S-transferase B), an abundant intracellular soluble protein in rat proximal tubules, hepatocytes, and small intestinal mucosal cells, is believed to be a component of an organic anion transport system. Its presence in urine was determined immunologically and catalytically in adult, female, Sprague-Dawley rats that were given mercuric chloride or potassium dichromate. These nephrotoxic agents produce severe renal failure, with epithelial necrosis in the proximal tubule. Mercuric chloride perferentially injures the terminal part of the proximal tubule, while potassium dichromate damages more proximal segments. Ligandinuria was consistently detected immunologically and catalytically from 6 to 24 hr following injection of mercuric chloride. Potassium dichromate administration did not result in immunologically detectable liganduria; however, ...

*  POTASSIUM DICHROMATE (DICHROMIC ACID, DIPOTASSIUM SALT)
Chromium (symbol Cr and atomic number 24) occurs in the oxidation states 0, +2, +3, and +6 states. Element (0) and divalent chromium, however, are unstable. Chromium (0) immediately produce a thin oxide layer. Divalent chromium is easily oxidized to the trivalent form in air. The trivalent and hexavalent oxidation states are important in industry, which exit in their divalent anions called chromate and dichromate respectively and an chromic anhydride form called chromium trioxide (CrO3) and chromic oxide (Cr2O3). In industrial, chromium trioxide is called chromic acid. The principal uses of chromium are in the metallurgical processing of ferrochromium and other metallurgical products to impart corrosion resistance, chiefly stainless steel. There are applications in chrome plating, anodizing aluminium, and refractory processing of chrome brick. When combined with oxygen together other metallic elements such as lead and potassium, it forms various inorganic ...

Due to the severity of the acute respiratory failure, patients received controlled mechanical ventilation with a respirator (Servo 900C; Siemens Elema; Solna, Sweden) between 3 days and 7 days before study enrollment in a university hospital. The study lasted 18 months. The pulmonary status of the patients did not allow for noninvasive positive airway pressure ventilation during this period. Patients enrolled into the study could be successfully weaned from controlled or assisted mechanical ventilation and were switched to spontaneous breathing with CPAP provided by a continuous flow machine (Dra ̈ger CF 800; Dra ̈ger; Lu ̈beck, Germany). *  Cyanotype - Wikipedia
In a typical procedure, equal volumes of an 8.1% (w/v) solution of potassium ferricyanide and a 20% solution of ferric ammonium citrate are mixed. The overall contrast of the sensitizer solution can be increased with the addition of approximately 6 drops of 1% (w/v) solution potassium dichromate for every 2 ml of sensitizer solution.[citation needed]. This mildly photosensitive solution is then applied to a receptive surface (such as paper or cloth) and allowed to dry in a dark place. Cyanotypes can be printed on any surface capable of soaking up the iron solution. Although watercolor paper is a preferred medium, cotton, wool and even gelatin sizing on nonporous surfaces have been used. Care should be taken to avoid alkaline-buffered papers, which degrade the image over time.. Prints can be ...

Strong dark self-enhancement, the increase in diffraction efficiency after irradiation, has been reported previously for dichromated-gelatin gratings. Here a more-detailed study of this self-enhancement effect is presented. The self-enhancement in dichromated-gelatin gratings was of the order of 10-100, depending on the pH and on the dichromate concentration of the solution used for the preparation of dichromated-gelatin films. The highest self-enhancement gain occurred when pH was high and dichromate concentration was low. The increase in the diffraction efficiencies of the gratings continued over 3 months.. © 1999 Optical Society of America. Full Article , PDF Article ...
