The Flora of China Checklist [FCC] project will provide a computerized synopsis of the almost 30,000 species of ferns and seed plants by mid 1997. Information on accepted species and recognized infraspecific taxa will be provided. These data include: the place of publication for accepted taxa, location where accepted names of species appear in published volumes of both the Chinese-language Flora Reipublicae Popularis Sinicae [FRPS] and English-language Flora of China [FoC] (as applicable) as well as other relevant bibliographic sources, the status of species and infraspecies in China (native, endemic, introduced, naturalized, cultivated), their distribution by province/shi/special areas within China, altitudinal ranges within China, and for those non-endemic taxa, their occurrence in countries neighboring China and distribution outside of Asia, and notes as appropriate for the project including conservation status where known via the China Plant Red Data Book. Taxonomic Revision of Geranium sect. Ruberta and Unguiculata (Geraniaceae) | Annals of the Missouri Botanical Garden
Geranium L. sect. Ruberta Dumort. and section Unguiculata (Boiss.) Reiche (Geraniaceae) consists of 10 and two species, respectively. The highest diversity of section Ruberta is located in Macaronesia with seven species, four of them endemic. Additionally, two species are endemic to Turkey, another is restricted to southern Spain and Morocco, and three are naturalized in many temperate regions of the world but are native to Europe and adjacent areas of Africa and western Asia. Section Unguiculata is mainly found on the Balkan Peninsula, although one species reaches eastward to the mountains of southern France. Geranium sect. Ruberta is characterized by its actinomorphic flowers (only G. palmatum Cav. has slightly zygomorphic flowers) and its petals with a bicarinate and well-developed claw. This broader concept of the section Ruberta, which includes section Lucida R. Knuth, permits the unequivocal inclusion of all species, unlike the previous proposal to separate these species into two sections. ...
The Taxonomic Relevance of Achenial Trichomes in Invasive European Asteraceae | Annals of the Missouri Botanical Garden ...
Achenial trichomes of 23 taxa of four genera of Asteraceae were studied by means of digital and SEM: eight intrageneric taxa of Solidago L., one of Euthamia (Nutt.) Cass., seven of Erigeron sect. Conyza Less., and seven of Bidens L. It is proved that achenes of all the examined taxa of Erigeron sect. Conyza, Euthamia, and Solidago are covered with duplex trichomes. Within Bidens this feature is variable: indigenous European species B. tripartita L. and B. cernua L. are characterized by simple monostichous multicellular trichomes; the invasive B. frondosa L., by duplex trichomes; the alien B. connata Muhl. ex Willd., by trichomes of both types. Additional characters of taxonomic value were described for several taxa: trichome length, pubescence, surface sculpture, etc. Identification keys based on trichome characters were created for species of Bidens and Solidago.. ...

A New Varietal Combination for a Narrowly Endemic Rock Daisy (Laphamia: Asteraceae) in Southern New Mexico | Novon, A...
The recent restructuring of Perityle Benth. (Asteraceae), s.l., warrants a new varietal combination of a narrowly endemic taxon in south-central New Mexico. The previously recognized P. staurophylla (Barneby) Shinners var. homoflora Todsen becomes Laphamia staurophylla Barneby var. homoflora (Todsen) Z. S. Rogers & Spellenb. A brief history of this taxon, a rationale for its recognition, and its status as a rare plant for the state are discussed.. ...
