*  Mechanisms of PTH-induced rise in cytosolic calcium in adult rat hepatocytes. - Semantic Scholar
Available data indicate that the liver is a target organ for parathyroid hormone (PTH) and that this effect is most likely mediated by PTH-induced calcium entry into hepatocytes. The present study examined the effects of both PTH-(1-84) and its amino-terminal fragment [PTH-(1-34)] on cytosolic calcium concentration ([Ca2+]i) of hepatocytes and explored the cellular pathways that mediate this potential action of PTH. Both moieties of PTH produced a dose-dependent rise in [Ca2+]i, but the effect of PTH-(1-84) was greater (P | 0.01) than an equimolar amount of PTH-(1-34). This effect required calcium in the medium and was totally [PTH-(1-34)] or partially [PTH-(1-84)] blocked by PTH antagonist ([Nle8,18,Tyr34]bPTH-(7-34)-NH2] and by verapamil or nifedipine. Sodium or chloride channel blockers did not modify this effect. 12-O-tetradecanoylphorbol 13-acetate (TPA), an activator of protein kinase C, dibutyryl adenosine 3',5'-cyclic monophosphate (DBcAMP), and G protein activator also produced a dose-dependent

5-Hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) stimulates corticosteroid secretion from adrenal cells through activation of 5-HT4 receptors positively coupled to adenylyl-cyclase. In the present study, we investigated in frog adrenocortical cells the effect of 5-HT4 receptor agonists on cytosolic calcium concentration ([Ca2+]i) and determined the sequence of events associated with 5-HT4 receptor agonist zacopride (10[-8] to 10[-5]M each in the vicinity of cultured adrenocortical cells caused a dose-dependent increase in [Ca2+]i. Preincubation of the cells with the selective 5-HT4 receptor antagonist [1-[2-(methylsulfonylamino)ethyl]-4- piperidinyl]methyl-1-methyl-1H-indole-3-carboxylate maleate totally blocked the 5-HT-induced stimulation of [Ca2+]i. Chelation of extracellular calcium with ethylene glycol bis (beta-aminoethyl ether)-N,N,N', N'-tetraacetic acid (10 MM) suppressed the stimulatory effect of 5-HT on [Ca2+]i. Conversely, thapsigargin, an inhibitor of calcium ATPase activity, had no effect on the [Ca2+]i ...
*  Medical Advisor Journals by Kyle J. Norton: Dietary Minerals Calcium: Calcium and aluminum in Neurodegenerative disorders
Both calcium and aluminum have been implicated in the cell damage and death that occurs in several neurodegenerative disorders including Alzheimer's disease (AD). In the study to examine the effects of experimentally elevated intraneuronal levels of aluminum ([Al]i) and/or calcium ([Ca2+]i) on neuronal degeneration and antigenic alterations in the microtubule-associated protein tau in cell cultures of rat hippocampus and human cerebral cortex, showed that Exposure of cultures to Al3+ alone (200 microM) for up to 6 d did not result in neuronal degeneration. Neurons exposed to the divalent cation ionophore A23187 degenerated within 4 h when Ca2+ was present in the culture medium whether or not Al3+ was present. Measurements of [Ca2+]i using the calcium indicator dye fura-2 demonstrated a direct relationship between increased [Ca2+]i and neuronal degeneration. In contrast, neurons did not degenerate when exposed to A23187 in the presence of Al3+ and the absence of Ca2+, despite a 10-fold ...

This poster describes the use of the new EarlyTox™ Cardiotoxicity Kit for improved assay performance with iPSC-derived cardiomyocytes. The dye has minimal non-specific toxicity, provides a larger signal window, and is more suitable for longer term studies than other dyes. Characterization was done with a FLIPR® Tetra System and data generated on the SpectraMax® i3 Multi-Mode Microplate Platform.
*  Crosstalk between Ca2+ signaling and mitochondrial H2O2 is required for rotenone inhibition of mTOR signaling pathway leading...
Rotenone, a neurotoxic pesticide, induces loss of dopaminergic neurons related to Parkinson's disease. Previous studies have shown that rotenone induces neuronal apoptosis partly by triggering hydrogen peroxide (H2O2)-dependent suppression of mTOR pathway. However, the underlying mechanism is not fully understood. Here, we show that rotenone elevates intracellular free calcium ion ([Ca2+]i) level, and activates CaMKII, resulting in inhibition of mTOR signaling and induction of neuronal apoptosis.

*  MechWarrior Online: How do I change the title using UI 2.0? - Ars Technica OpenForum
My Stalker-F is getting a re-work. STK-3F 'Dum-Dum II'. Something of a brawler build with STD 300 engine, 4x SRM6 w/ 5t of ammo, 6x ML, and 22 DHS. I'm not a fan of SRM6's without Artemis IV as the spread is horrendous without it, but I'm less of a fan of 18 DHS and 31% heat efficiency. I can see this thing being scary on River City and other close in maps, but god help me if I get ranged. Here is the original Dum-Dum for comparison: STK-3F 'Dum-Dum' ...

*  ic] Strange [if explicit] behavior
I'm getting really weird results from [if explicit] when incorporating the data tag. This is normal: ----- [data table='sub_categories' key='Category Name' field='description'] [if type='explicit' compare=''[data table=,sub_categories, key=,Category Name, field=,description,]''] YES [else] NO [/else] [/if] ----- returns: ----- The Correct Description YES ----- But if I change the table to 'categories' from 'sub_categories' I get: ----- The Correct Description NO ----- Which is very weird. I must be missing something. Is there special functionality tied to a table named 'categories'? - Grant P.S. *  Custom names?
Just a help request here, I'm seeing a few people with what looked like custom names, instead of the usernames we got stuck with after the migration, I could be wrong ofc, but after scanning my profile settings I can't see how to set custom names so overall, not sure if they're back or not. Could someone confirm either way for me? And if they are back, how can I change mine? Newb question probably, but one I felt it was worth asking. Ty :)
