From houses and flats in Copenhagen inhabited by people allergic or non-allergic to house-dust, 69 samples of dust from mattresses have been collected and investigated for their content of mites and other arthropods. Three species of house-dust mites (Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus (Trt.), D. farinae Hughes, Euroglyphus maynei (Cooreman) Fain) were thus for the first time registered from Denmark besides some other mites and insects. Background: Der f 7 is the group 7 allergen from the dust mite Dermatophagoides farinae, homologous to the major allergen Der p 7 from D. pteronyssinus. Monoclonal antibody that bind to residues Leu48 and Phe50 was found to inhibit IgE binding to residue Asp159, which is important for the cross-reactivity between Der f 7 and Der p 7. Methodology/Principal Findings: Here, we report the crystal structure of Der f 7 that shows an elongated and curved molecule consisting of two anti-parallel β-sheets - one 4-stranded and the other 5-stranded - that wrap around a long C-terminal helix. The overall fold of Der f 7 is similar to Der p 7 but key difference was found in the β1-β2 loop region. In Der f 7, Leu48 and Phe50 are in close proximity to Asp159, explaining why monoclonal antibody binding to Leu48 and Phe50 can inhibit IgE binding to Asp159. Intradermal skin test is a method for diagnosis of allergic dermatoses and revelation of the allergens involved in dogs, but standardization of the procedure remains incomplete. The aim of the present study was to interpret the results of allergens, evaluate their clinical relevance and selection of candidate allergens for immunotherapy.. The main objective of this study was to investigate the prevalence of Tp sensitization in elderly subjects in a veterans' nursing home using mite allergen extracts and recombinant allergens. A total of 199 subjects were enrolled in this study: 112 elderly subjects from a nursing home and 87 healthy young adults from the hospital staff as controls. The prevalence of Tp hypersensitivity was determined by specific IgE measurements and basophil histamine release. Immunoblotting with or without inhibition with Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus (Dp) was performed to identify the major allergens and species-specific allergen to Tp. It was determined that 39.3% (44/112) of the elderly population were sensitized to Tp and 17.9% (20/112) to Tp alone. There was a significantly higher prevalence of Tp hypersensitivity in elderly subjects in comparison with the young adult population. It took me two and a half years to find my first "real job" after working two jobs part time to get me experience (many jobs after the bank crash weren't entry level and many of them wanted 3 years of experience) for the field I wanted to get into: marketing.
