Tectiviridae is a family of viruses that infect bacteria, also known as bacteriophages or phages. These viruses have a icosahedral capsid (protein shell) and a lipid-containing membrane surrounding their genome. The genome is double-stranded DNA and is relatively small, around 14-15 kilobases in length. Tectiviridae viruses are known to infect a wide range of bacterial hosts and have been found in both environmental and clinical settings. They are not known to infect or cause disease in humans or animals.
