Aid To Families With Dependent Children
'Aid to Families with Dependent Children' (AFDC) was a federal assistance program that provided financial support to impoverished families with children who were deprived of parental support due to death, disability, or absence.
"Aid to Families with Dependent Children" (AFDC) était un programme d'assistance sociale aux États-Unis qui a existé de 1935 à 1996. Il fournissait une aide financière mensuelle aux familles avec enfants à charge démunies, généralement des mères célibataires. Les bénéficiaires du programme devaient avoir des revenus et des actifs limités pour être admissibles. Le montant de l'aide variait en fonction de la taille de la famille et du niveau de pauvreté.
Le but du programme AFDC était d'aider à subvenir aux besoins essentiels des enfants, tels que la nourriture, le logement et les vêtements. Il a également cherché à encourager le travail et l'autosuffisance en permettant aux bénéficiaires de travailler sans perdre immédiatement leur assistance.
Cependant, le programme AFDC a été critiqué pour ses incitations perçues à la dépendance à l'aide sociale et pour avoir contribué au déclin des familles traditionnelles. En réponse à ces préoccupations, le Congrès a adopté en 1996 la loi sur le bien-être et la responsabilité des pères (PRWORA), qui a remplacé AFDC par le programme Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF).
Le programme TANF met davantage l'accent sur le travail et l'autonomie, imposant des exigences de travail aux bénéficiaires et fixant des limites de temps pour la réception des prestations.
Public Assistance refers to government-funded programs designed to provide financial aid, food, housing, and other necessary support to low-income individuals or families who are unable to meet their basic needs.
En termes médicaux, la "Public Assistance" fait référence aux programmes gouvernementaux conçus pour aider les personnes ou les familles qui ont des difficultés financières et qui ne peuvent pas subvenir à leurs besoins fondamentaux.
