Wet chemical precipitation route is developed for the synthesis of ZnO nanoparticles using a dipodal receptor as capping agent to control the size and shape of ZnO nanoparticles and also to passivate the surface defects. The capping of ZnO nanoparticles with dipodal receptor is characterized with NMR and IR spectroscopy. EDX analyses also confirmed the presence of organic receptors together with ZnO nanoparticles. The morphology and size of surface modified ZnO nanoparticles is checked by SEM, TEM and DLS spectroscopic techniques. The surface decorated ZnO nanoparticles demonstrate emission peak at 333 nm. The effect of different concentrations of biocomposite seed layer on the alignment of ZnO nanorods has been investigated. ZnO nanorods grown on a gold-coated glass substrate have been characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) techniques. These techniques have shown that the ZnO nanorods are well aligned and perpendicular to the substrate, and grown with a high density and uniformity on the substrate. This study aimed to evaluate the antibacterial activity of zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO-NPs) on Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) isolated from layer chickens using minimum inhibitory concentration test (MIC). A total number of 120-layer chicken samples from hock joints and livers were collected under aseptic conditions from diseased and freshly dead layer chickens from different private farms in Assiut Governorate. From these 120 samples, we isolated 29 isolates of Staphylococci with a prevalence rate of 24.16%. Nineteen (65.5 %) of these 29 isolates were coagulase negative and ten (34.5 %) were coagulase positive. By PCR, the 10 coagulase positive strains (CoPS), were confirmed to be S. aureus as they have (clfA gene), while 6 isolates only were Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA) as they demonstrated mecA gene. The potential ability of a new yeast strain, Pichia kudriavzevii, in the synthesis of zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO-NPs) through a green method was explored in this study. The effect of reaction time (12, 24 and 36 h) on the structure of the resulting ZnO nanoparticles was investigated. From the XRD and TEM results, the ZnO-NPs with a hexagonal wurtzite structure and a particle crystal size of ~10-61 nm was formed at different reaction times. Combing XRD, TEM, and PL results, it was revealed that the sample prepared at intermediate duration (24 h) has the most favorable nanosized structure with the lowest defect concentration. The biomedical properties of ZnO-NPs as free radical scavenging activity, cytotoxicity and antibacterial agents were characterized. Biosynthesized ZnO-NPs showed strong DPPH free radical scavenging and a dose dependent toxicity with non-toxic effects on Vero cells for concentrations below 190 µg/mL. The effect of hydrogen doping on the magnetic properties of ZnO nanoparticles was investigated. Hydrogen was incorporated by annealing under 5% H{sub 2} in Ar ambient at 700 °C. Room-temperature ferromagnetism was induced in hydrogenated ZnO nanoparticles, and the observed ferromagnetism could be switched between "on" and "off" states through hydrogen annealing and oxygen annealing process, respectively. It was found that Zn vacancy and OH bonding complex (V{sub Zn} + OH) was crucial to the observed ferromagnetism by using the X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and positron annihilation spectroscopy analysis. In this work, ZnO nanorods were hydrothermally grown on the gold-coated glass substrate and characterized by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) techniques. The ZnO nanorods were functionalized by two different approaches and performance of the sensor electrode was monitored. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) was carried out for the confirmation of interaction between the ionophore molecules and ZnO nanorods. In addition to this, the surface of the electrode was characterized by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) showing the chemical and electronic state of the ionophore and ZnO nanorod components. The ionophore solution was prepared in the stabilizer, poly vinyl chloride (PVC) and additives, and then functionalized on the ZnO nanorods that have shown the Nernstian response with the slope of 31 mV/decade. This study focused on the adsorption of albumin and creatinine on the surface of zinc oxide nanoparticles. Factors affecting adsorption, like contact time, adsorbent dose, concentration, temperature, PH, and shaking rate, were studied. The best conditions for adsorption were found at 298k, pH = (7), the concentration of (2.25, 0.5x10-3)g/dL, (30, 2.5)min, and weight of zinc oxide NPs (30, 10)mg for both albumin and creatinine respectively. We found that adsorption corresponds to Langmuir adsorption isotherms for albumin and Temkin adsorption isotherms for creatinin. Thermodynamic parameters were determined (average of ΔG = -12563.57(J/mol.K), ΔH = 25.740(kJ/mol), average of ΔS = 126.37(J/mol)) for albumin and (average of ΔG = -3348.45(J/mol.K), ΔH = 36.731(kJ/mol), average of ΔS = 132.22(J/mol)) for creatinine, Through the results of )ΔG(, the system is spontaneous because of the negative values.
