Electric vehicles (EVs) have received wide attention due to their higher energy efficiency and lower emissions. However, the random charging and discharging behaviors of substantial numbers of EVs may lead to safety risk problems in a distribution network. Reasonable price incentives can guide EVs through orderly charging and discharging, and further provide a feasible solution to reduce the operational risk of the distribution network. Considering three typical electricity prices, EV charging/discharging load models are built. Then, a Probabilistic Load Flow (PLF) method using cumulants and Gram-Charlier series is proposed to obtain the power flow of the distribution network including massive numbers of EVs. In terms of the risk indexes of node voltage and line flow, the operational risk of the distribution network can be estimated in detail. The characteristics of disinfection by-product (DBP) formation in the distribution system of Hiroshima City were investigated. Then a model was developed for predicting DBPs based on multiple regression analysis. Potassium permanganate consumption value (KMnO4), free chlorine residual concentration (Cl2), pH, water temperature (WT) and residence time (RT) were confirmed to have an influence on DBP formation in the distribution system and used as independent variables.. The correlation coefficients between the logarithmic values of the predicted DBPs and those of the observed DBPs were higher than 0.7. DUGi: Viewing Item from repository DUGiDocs: This thesis proposes a framework for identifying the root-cause of a voltage disturbance, as well as, its source location (upstream/downstream) from the monitoring place. The framework works with three-phase voltage and current waveforms collected in radial distribution networks without distributed generation. Real-world and synthetic waveforms are used to test it. The framework involves features that are conceived based on electrical principles, and assuming some hypothesis on the analyzed phenomena. Features considered are based on waveforms and timestamp information. Multivariate analysis of variance and rule induction algorithms are applied to assess the amount of meaningful information explained by each feature, according to the root-cause of the disturbance and its source location. The obtained classification rates show that the proposed framework could be used for automatic diagnosis of voltage disturbances collected in radial distribution networks.

This study takes advantage of the rich data base available in the evaluation reports of agencies involved in the IDWSSD. It is based on analyses of 121 completed rural water supply projects executed by eighteen different agencies in Asia, Africa, and Latin America; the resulting hypotheses were followed by more specific testing in selected countries. Alternatives for the base naïve Bayesian model to outperform individual performances while maintaining simplicity are suggested. The benefits of controlled algae growth are well documented. Algal biomass uses are numerous including: biofuels, bioremediation, medicine, and other bioproducts. Currently algae are largely grown in fresh water. The ability to culture algae in non potable water would allow for the benefits of algal production without using water suitable for direct human use. Two largely available sources of non potable water are produced water (coal bed methane wastewater) and seawater. In this study, one liter pilot scale Rotating Algal Biofilm Reactors (RABR) were used as the bioreactor platform to grow cyanobacterial biofilms utilizing these non potable water sources.
