The concepts of 340 university freshmen concerning urban water cycles include various misconceptions (or intuitive conceptions) which severely contrast with correct scientific ones. Almost no student knew the correct urban water cycle in total, including cycle steps in the appropriate sequence: consumer (given), sewage-plant, nature and waterworks. Concepts mainly omit nature and waterworks, only the sewage plant is included in almost all concepts. This reflects an exaggeration of the importance of the cycle-step sewage plant relative to the other steps, when the topic is taught in school. Diked floodplain units, even when intensively managed, are often variably disconnected from adjacent river systems and thus present an interesting opportunity for studying the impacts of variations in hydrologic connectivity on floodplain communities. Both diked and naturally connected floodplains exist in the Shiawassee National Wildlife Refuge. The goal of my study was to assess how diked unit location and configuration influence the structure of macroinvertebrate community richness. Using nested samples from vegetated microhabitats within larger floodplain units, aquatic macroinvertebrate surveys were conducted in the spring and summer of 2016. Insects, in fact, could represent a good alternative source of quality proteins and nutrients and they are already a very popular component of the diet of one third of the worlds population in approximately 80% of countries. In the study, we have taken into account only two species of edible insects (Tenebrio molitor and Zophobas morio mealworms), because they are already commercially produced even in Western countries, and for this reason it is possible to find specific data in literature about their diets. In analysing drivers of the state of the environment in the occupied Palestinian territory, this report arranges drivers under the following headings: climate change and underlying environmental conditions; socioeconomic drivers; and environmental governance constraints.. Climate projections indicate that by mid-century, the temperature will increase by between 1.2°C and 2.6°C. Abstract. The deposition of light-absorbing aerosols (LAAs), such as black carbon (BC) and dust, onto snow cover has been suggested to reduce the snow albedo and modulate the snowpack and consequent hydrologic cycle. In this study we use the variable-resolution Community Earth System Model (VR-CESM) with a regionally refined high-resolution (0.125°) grid to quantify the impacts of LAAs in snow in the Rocky Mountain region during the period 1981-2005. We first evaluate the model simulation of LAA concentrations both near the surface and in snow and then investigate the snowpack and runoff changes induced by LAAs in snow. The model simulates similar magnitudes of near-surface atmospheric dust concentrations as observations in the Rocky Mountain region. Although the model underestimates near-surface atmospheric BC concentrations, the model overestimates BC-in-snow concentrations by 35 % on average. Streamflow and water-quality data were collected by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) or the Providence Water Supply Board, Rhode Islands largest drinking-water supplier. Streamflow was measured or estimated by the USGS following standard methods at 23 streamgage stations; 10 of these stations were also equipped with instrumentation capable of continuously monitoring specific conductance. Streamflow and concentrations of sodium and chloride estimated from records of specific conductance were used to calculate instantaneous (15-minute) loads of sodium and chloride during water year (WY) 2004 (October 1, 2003, to September 30, 2004). Due to climate changes and increased demands of different water users (agriculture, industry, domestic) water becomes scarce resources worldwide. Since irrigated agriculture is the one of the largest consumer of these resources (so called blue water footprint), irrigation management must be shifted from maximal production per crop area to maximal production per unit of water used by crops. Among the strategies for reducing water footprints, changing the full irrigation to the reduced crops water supply (deficit irrigation techniques) is one of the options. Methods for Predicting Urban Drainage Costs. Examination of over 100 small urban drainage systems reveals that investment in conventional drainage systems depends upon design factors and physical characteristics of the drainage area. The average slope of the drainage area, smallest diameter of pipe, number of inlets and manholes, storm frequency, runoff coefficient, total capacity, and total developed area are the most significant cost components. Regression, multivariant, and nonlinear techniques are used to explain differences in design methods and to develop cost prediction equations for various levels of design. Such prediction models will enable agencies such as the Federal Housing Administration and municipal and regional planning commissions, as well as engineering offices, to judge the cost of design alternatives rapidly and reasonably accurately.

An Alumni Talk was organized by KIIT School of Rural Management (KSRM) for the students of MBA(RM) and MBA(ABM) on 20th February 2021. The speaker, Mr. Prabeen Kumar Singh provided an overview of cotton farming in the world. The sector is a leading one in the developing countries and the textile value chain is one of the longest value chains in agricultural commodities.. He highlighted the challenges in the sector across the value chain, especially in the context of sustainability, like high use of pesticide in India, water footprint for production of garments, exploitation, gender inequality, difficulty in traceability because of the number of intermediaries and cotton price fluctuation. Mr. Singh also stressed upon the social and environmental issues which are all interlinked. Hydrologic cycle intensification is an expected manifestation of a warming climate. Although positive trends in several global average quantities have been reported, no previous studies have documented broad intensification across elements of the Arctic freshwater cycle (FWC). In this study we examine the character and quantitative significance of changes in annual precipitation, evapotranspiration, and river discharge across the terrestrial pan-Arctic over the past several decades from observations and a suite of coupled general circulation models (GCMs). Trends in freshwater flux and storage derived from observations across the Arctic Ocean and surrounding seas are also described. With few exceptions, precipitation, evapotranspiration, and river discharge fluxes from observations and the GCMs exhibit positive trends. Climate change causes an increase in the number of freshwaters that run dry, at least temporarily. Around 90,000 square kilometres of water surface have already vanished in the last 30 years. This trend is not only a threat to drinking water reserves and major ecosystems - dried freshwaters also play an important role in the global carbon cycle. Two recently published studies reveal that the importance of this phenomenon has so far been underrated.
