Wandering spleen is a rare condition characterized by the absence or underdevelopment of one or all of the ligaments that hold the spleen in its normal position in the left upper quadrant of the abdomen. It is an uncommon clinical entity that mainly affects children. Among adults it most frequently affects women of reproductive age, in whom acquired laxity of the splenic ligaments is usually the cause. Patients with a wandering spleen may be asymptomatic, present with a movable mass in the abdomen, or have chronic or intermittent abdominal pain because of partial torsion and spontaneous detorsion of the spleen. A 26-year-old woman was admitted to our hospital with vomiting and abdominal pain. Abdominal examination revealed a large ovoid hypogastric mass. A CT scan showed a wandering spleen in the hypogastric region. Exploratory laparotomy revealed an ischemic spleen. A total splenectomy was performed ...
Introduction A wandering spleen occurs when there is a laxity of the ligaments that fix the spleen in its normal anatomical position. Case Presentation This is a case report of a wandering spleen with horseshoe kidney in a 29-year-old male admitted with acute lower abdominal pain and vomiting to emergency department of Shariati hospital in Isfahan province. Sonographic examination showed a homogeneous 21 × 15 × 8 cm mass in the lower part of the abdomen and pelvis associated with a horseshoe kidney. Laparotomy confirmed the clinical and ultrasound findings. Conclusions The association of horseshoe kidney with a wandering spleen in this case may be due to an embryological anomaly.
Background: With the advent of real time ultrasonography of the abdomen, the spleen is no longer an inaccessible organ. Wandering spleen is a rare entity with only less than 500 cases reported so far. Method: This case report presents a 16-year- old Nigerian girl admitted in a medical centre but referred for ultrasonography on account of a clinical history of lower abdominal tenderness. Result: Ultrasonography examination revealed that the spleen was not found in its normal anatomical position. However, a well defined acoustic signature of the spleen was seen in the pelvis. Conclusion: Ultrasonography which is far cheaper than magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and computed tomography (CT) is a valuable diagnostic aid in this condition ...
Geoffrey Fasen, MD, Carlos Puig, MD, Michael Kendrick, MD, David Nagorney, MD. Mayo Clinic- Rochester. Objective: Case report describing a novel technique in an adult patient for the performance of laparoscopic splenopexy to treat wandering spleen.. Patient Background: A 27 year old woman with amedical history significant for omphalocele presented initially for evaluation of chronic abdominal pain. She had been experiencing worsening pain over the past 3 years requiring pain medication for adequate analgesia. Her abdominal discomfort was unaccompanied by any nausea, vomiting, or obstipation suggestive of bowel obstruction. She did have chronic constipation requiring multiple laxitive use to maintain reasonable bowel habits. Due to concern for malrotation, MRI enterography was obtained, demonstrating malrotation of the bowel as well as a wandering spleen located in the pelvis with evidence of torsion and freely mobile pancreatic body and tail. Secondary to her young age and increased infectious ...

There is very little information on wandering in Alzheimers disease patients. I have copied below the complete text from an informative article. As you can see, most of the research is on limiting dangers from wandering. Wandering in Alzheimers Disease patients is not driven by the motor system. If it were, handedness may indeed play a role in direction of wandering. Instead it seems to be driven by the patients sense that 1) he or she does not recognize where they are and 2) therefore he or she must be in the wrong place. Alzheimers Disease patients often remember how the town, street or room looked several years ago, and changes to the town, street or room that happened in the intervening years may cause the patients to feel like they are in the wrong place. Fortunately these feelings pass if they are addressed by a caregiver. For example, an Alzheimers Disease patient sitting in his own living room may decide it is time to go home. If the patient is told he is already home, he will ...

In the new study, psychological scientist Elissa Epel and colleagues at the University of California, San Francisco examined the relationship between telomere length, an emerging biomarker for cellular and general bodily aging, and the tendency to be present in the moment or to mind wander in 239 healthy women who were 50 to 65 years old.. The researchers defined being present in the moment as an inclination to be focused on current tasks, while they defined mind wandering as the inclination to have thoughts about things other than the present or being elsewhere.. According to the findings, published in Clinical Psychological Science, a journal of the Association for Psychological Science, the participants who reported more mind wandering had shorter telomeres, while those who reported more presence in the moment had longer telomeres, even after their levels of perceived stress were taken into account.. Telomeres are the DNA-caps that protect the ends of chromosomes, preventing them from ...

Only the most naive or tendentious among us would deny the extent and intensity of suffering in the world. Can one hold, consistently with the common view of suffering in the world, that there is an omniscient, omnipotent, perfectly good God? This book argues that one can.Wandering in Darkness first presents the moral psychology and value theory within which one typical traditional theodicy, namely, that of Thomas Aquinas, is embedded.

Where ever he has spawned/been i think there should be a high chance that he could be spotted wandering around the area he spawned in or chased you in. This ofcourse would be ruined by the musical warning you get when hes chasing you unless he actually started chasing you so i think there could be VISUAL warnings around the places he has been wandering like smudges/cracks on the walls and floors so you know hes been wandering nearby or along your path. And for extra surprise, you could have him appear face to face with the player on the other side of a door the player just opened. This would be a tad unfair without any sort of warning so I think there should be a smoggy or decayed effect around the door to alarm the player 106 is there ...
Sexual.ifferences.an be the result of social and cultural expectations, with women expected to be emotional and show pain and men stoic, keeping pain to themselves. 65 As an aid to diagnosis edit Pain is a symptom of many medical conditions. Knowledge of the proteins that ultimately are synthesized by these genes are providing new targets for therapy development. Now crippled, Nagato turns Yahikos body into the Neva Path. The two nearly defeat Kakashi, but Konoha reinforcements arrive in time. Nagatos position as the leader of Akatsuki was well-deserved, being its strongest member and, as Pain, being called unbeatable at different points by Conan, 26 Fukasaku, 27 Gobi, 28 and Zetsu . 29 Jiraiya was frightened by news that Pain killed Hanzō by himself, as not even the combined tannin could defeat Hanzō. 21 Kabuto Yakushi also regarded Nagato with hindered mobility as his second strongest reincarnated shinobi, behind only Madara Uchiha . 30 Indeed, it took the combined efforts of Hitachi ...

Surface Protein TRPA1 Increases Pain After Surgery Anesthesia - Studies in mice suggest that certain commonly used anesthetics activate the TRPA1 surface protein on nerve cells. When activated, the TRPA1 protein increases or intensifies feelings of pain after waking up from surgery. Anesthesiologists may try to use medications that dont activate TRPA1. Read more ...

I cant have days like this right now. I have too much to do. Im so filled with doubt sometimes, and paranoia. I always work soooooo hard to make things happen and fight my way through all these hardships and battles, and then Im so scared that someday its all going to fall apart, or things arent going to actually work out how I need them to. Its impossible for me sometimes, to just sit back and enjoy the process of things happening and just be happy with what I have already ...
BY (I felt as if we were old friends by this point) had an interesting marital history. He was a polygamist and according to Wiki had 55 wives, 54 of which he married after becoming a Mormon. While the majority of the sealings were "for eternity", some were "for time only". I dont know if this meant they could stay overnight, or if Brigham Young told them to skidaddle after enjoying their company since he "needed to get up early for work tomorrow". Researchers believe that not all of the 55 marriages were conjugal. (Yeah, right ...

One of the limitations of their knock-in technique, however, was that the replacement of the normal ACVR1 gene with the mutant version was incomplete--it occured in most, but not all, of the cells in the mice. This produced chimeric mice, which were mosaics of cells that had one copy of the mutated ACVR1 gene ("FOP" cells) and cells that had two normal copies of the ACVR1 gene. Exploiting this mixed nature of the mice, the researchers were able to study how "FOP" cells interacted with normal cells. Surprisingly, they found that in the presence of "FOP" cells even normal cells were turning into bone. This suggests that cells that have the faulty ACVR1 receptor can also instruct normal cells to turn into bone through an unidentified mechanism.. Marching toward a cure. With these findings scientists are beginning to devise strategies and design drugs that can either specifically turn off the expression of the mutant ACVR1 gene or turn off the aberrant activity of the mutant, providing hope that a ...
Eventually, I decided to pay a visit to the medical staff on board the ship, where, after I had described my symptoms to the doctor, blood was drawn and several other tests were performed. And a week later, when I was called back to the medical center while we were en route to New Zealand, the nurse informed me that I was the proud host of a community of worms.. At least it was a multi-cultural community, with a healthy mix of both pinworms and roundworms, which, according to the doctor, could have been picked up from any number of countries Id visited during my extensive travels around the developing world.. Since the most common way to end up with such worms is after an infected person scratches their anal area and then touches or prepares food that is then ingested by someone else, this conclusion really didnt seem too far-fetched, considering all of the unhygienic street stalls Ive ever eaten at.. The ship doctor decided to prescribe the strongest medicine possible in order to try and ...
also - I am 34 weeks today! Each week feels like a huge accomplishment, though I have started having a recurring fear (dream? vision?) of having this baby at home. Today I realized we were down to one clean bath towel in the house, and I had visions of a 9-1-1 operator telling The Hubs to get clean towels only there were none to be found. So I did a huge load of towels today. They are folded and ready to go. Hopefully we will not need them as I became a big fan of the epidural with Bubby ...

Because from childhood I know no human being died because of poverty - everything happens because of ignorance. A month ago in the BBC there was an inspiring article, The Sanitary Pad Revolutionary, which gave me hope that, however slowly, the conditions for women around the world are indeed improving. The story follows a school…
Stay away from sodium. Try to find something that is not so full of salt. Salads are a good choice. Have breakfast again and order "naked" eggs. Then you can add your own light sprinkle of salt. Steer clear of the bacon and sausage and opt for a fruit cup. If you must get a fast food meat item stay away from the Big Mac and the Whopper and go with the smaller versions. Split a small order of fries if you must have them or just eat half ...
Great post! I was struck by McCains wandering around rudely in the middle of the debate... actually wandering around in and out of the camera while Obama was speaking! I was surprised that the spinners didnt spend a little more time on that one.! As far as what McCain was doing, I saw it as an attempt to dominate the floor space and detract attention from the speaker, but now that you point this out, it worked against McCain in a double way. Not only was he viewed as rude by those of us who might notice such things, he was also viewed, in a very visual way on that debate floor, as unstable and erratic in his movement. Anyway, what you have said here about standing calm and steady is going to help me today because my mother is falling apart in rage, and I guess someone needs to actually to be calm, so double thanks for the post! ...
Harrison recalled the only heating was a single coal fire, and the house was so cold in winter that he and his brothers dreaded getting up in the morning because it was literally freezing cold and they had to use the outside toilet. The house had tiny rooms -only ten feet squared (about 100 square feet, about 9 m2) - and a small iron cooking stove in the back room, which was used as a kitchen. Describing the back garden, Harrison wrote it had "a one-foot wide flower bed, a toilet, a dustbin fitted to the back wall (and) a little hen house where we kept cockerels." [source]. ...
A long day, after a long week and Id promised myself a treat, nothing too exciting… but important achieving some sense of valuing self.. There are no baths in this weeks hotel… just swanky walk in showers, (uber designed - but still they leak out onto the marble floor, making it treacherous) so Im unable to soak out tightness & tiredness after the shows, particularly Saturdays mega three, to ease my exerted muscles in deep warm water… or else, theyll shape into impenetrable knots, with accompanying night cramps.. But, this hotel does have a sauna - open till eleven, Im informed - Id known about this all week, but our schedule did not previously permit. Tonight however… out of Manny by 10.35, "Should be just enough time" I keep saying to myself, as I lumber from venue to hotel (just next door) like a mad orc with He-Man inflated thighs… up the stairs to the fitness suite, towel clutched, heat and relaxation will soon be mine… almost there… but no - German efficiency insists ...
The beta glucan present in oats helps to slow down the rise in blood glucose levels after a meal and also helps to delay the absorption into the cells. Heres how it works. We have already seen that the soluble fiber forms a gel like structure while passing through the digestive tract. This gel increases the viscosity of the contents of the stomach and small intestine, which in turn slows down digestion and prolongs the absorption of carbohydrates into the bloodstream. This means that drastic fluctuations in the blood sugar levels after eating is avoided and a stable glucose level is maintained. This is desirable, especially for weight loss seekers and diabetics. Similar benefits may be derived by intake of other sources of soluble fiber like whole grains, fresh fruit and vegetables ...
Yes 8th Edition has its critics. There are players who are accusing GW of dumbing down or Sigmar-izing the game, but the way I see it this new direction can only be a good thing for the game. The game is getting a serious tightening up of the rules, streamlining how it plays so we can focus on playing instead of having to grapple with the clunkiness of the rules every time we want to play a game with our toy soldiers. I can understand why people are nervous, but having spoken to people who play AoS on a regular basis, I can safely say the game is not getting dumbed down. Yes the basic AoS rules are simple, but the complexity comes from the rules which appear in the various Warscrolls and unit entries which are out there ...
Also picked up a copy of Colonial Battlefleet from the wargame vault today. Interesting system. Their initiative mechanic and the roles mechanism are both interesting changes from Starmada, and the fact that they provide a Big List of Weapons should prevent some of the guncheese we had in Starmada: Admiralty. I dont like how they laid out said table (by weapon tonnage, rather than alphabetically by weapon name or weapon family), but that is at least a useful ordering during ship contruction. Their shields are also very different from S:AE shields (would be interested in seeing some non-forward-focused shields, but Im happy enough as-is without the extra complexity). I like the way they handled tech levels, mostly, except for Laser Weaponry, which I think they screwed up with regards to Screen role availability. One thing that does torque me off a little is some of the really implausible faux science used to justify mechanics that are in place for game balance reasons - things like "When you ...

Basically this force will have, for whatever reason, decided to put aside the principles of the Greater Good and are fighting for coin/ tech/ survival/ whatever. This would put them beyond the reach of tradition supply and repair lines, meaning they would have used whatever tech they had to hand to repair their gear. This will let me build mix in Imperial parts with the Tau and go to town with the conversion, whilst also giving me a strong narrative theme which I can tie in with my other armies ...

Kevin took Lex to see the new eye doctor, who is a Pediatric Opthamologist. Kevin said he was really, really nice, but very serious. They did the eye spray to dilate his pupils, did the various eye exams and told Kevin that Lex is farsighted, but the prescription the other doctor gave us was way off. He said that Lexs right eye is wandering to compensate for the farsightedness. He will need to wear his glasses for 2 weeks straight from the time he gets up till the time he goes to bed. Now, for the good news.......it will correct its self!!!!!! YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have never been so relieved in my life. Well have to take him back in 3 weeks for a follow up and see how things are then. I am so happy! And Im glad I dont just "take the doctors word for it ...
My training schedule assumes that I train every day but Thursday and weekends. Weekends are left for tournaments and (occasionally ) for rest, whereas Thursday is devoted to fitness trainings. As a matter of fact, sometimes either me or my trainer does not manage to meet a given day; consequently, we miss some of the trainings without the opportunity to fulfill them another day as my timetable is full. On the one hand, it is quite a pity that we encounter so many obstacles that we are not able to follow even a week thoroughly. On the other hand, were I so devoted to my schedule every single week, my body would not endure such a pressure in the long run. Usually, I do not like wandering around my agreements; however, in this case it might actually work for my benefit unless it stems solely from the lack of possibilities, not my negligence ...
