North Wales Police has reduced recorded crime over the past four years. The rate of reduction during this period of time is broadly in line with that for England and Wales. The likelihood of being a victim of crime or anti-social behaviour (per 1,000 population) is less in North Wales than across England and Wales as a whole.. North Wales is collaborating with forces in the north west of England as well as those in Wales in order to deliver a more efficient service to the public and to meet the demands of austerity. However, the force remains committed to delivering policing through its local policing teams. The local policing service comprises neighbourhood teams based in ten local policing commands which span North Wales six counties. Major crime is investigated in the force by a centrally-based team.. The force has sophisticated joint working arrangements with councils and other local service providers to support victims who are vulnerable or persistently targeted. Service providers work ...
The size and national reach of the MINAP registry underpin its value as an audit and research tool. The representativeness to the whole of England and Wales is a key strength owing to the willing collaboration of cardiac units across England and Wales in submitting their data, but this is also MINAPs greatest challenge (see below). In auditing hospital performance against national guidelines, MINAP has been the driver for substantial improvements in ACS care and outcomes, longitudinal analyses after its inception demonstrating year by year increases in use of evidence-based treatments and decreasing 30-day mortality rates.16 With over 735 000 ACS admissions recorded, and with every acute hospital in England and Wales submitting data, MINAP has the power to answer research questions relevant to small subsets and to provide comparative analyses at hospital, regional and international levels. However, MINAP shares the weaknesses of most other large data collections, particularly in the compromise ...

BACKGROUND: Vascular disease is associated with increased risk of dementia. Vascular health worsens with age. We investigated the relationship between self-reported vascular disease and brain pathology. METHODS: Brain donations to the population-based MRC Cognitive Function and Ageing Study (n=456, age range 66-103 years) were assessed using a standard protocol for Alzheimers disease (AD) and cerebrovascular pathology. History of stroke, angina, diabetes, medicated hypertension and heart attack were identified from self- and proxy-report interviews, retrospective informant interviews and death certificates. Logistic regression was used to estimate associations between each health condition and dichotomised neuropathological variables adjusted for age and sex. RESULTS: Stroke (36%), angina (23%), diabetes (12%), medicated hypertension (35%) and heart attack (22%) were frequently reported. Self-reported stroke was strongly associated with vascular, but not AD pathology. Medicated hypertension was

Published: 28 Feb 2012. St Georges Hospital, Tooting, has the best response rate for treating heart attack patients in London, according to the latest Myocardial Ischaemia National Audit Project (MINAP) which was discussed at the MINAP London Roadshow in November 2011.. The annual study looked at data from April 2010 - March 2011 and found that St Georges had the best call to balloon rate; treating 90% of patients in under 150 minutes.. The call-to-balloon time is from when the patient makes the emergency call, to the time that their emergency surgery is completed in hospital. The current standard for this is 150 minutes.. St Georges is one of the biggest and busiest of the eight specialist heart attack centres in the Capital, serving the southwest London population and, since March 2011, patients from across east Surrey.. Dr Pitt Lim, consultant cardiologist and clinical lead for cardiac intervention, said: A heart attack occurs when a coronary artery is blocked by clots. Time to ...

Had the pleasure of being asked to cover an event at the North Wales Shooting School. The event was for the Femme Fatale group, which encourages ladies to be involved in the shooting world. Great weather certainly helped to make a great day even better. The beautiful grounds of the school were looking wonderful in the sunshine. Brett and his team did an excellent job of hosting the event. It was so clear how much you can learn from some professional advice giving by the experienced team. Plenty of smiles and laughter throughout the day, even when it got down to the nitty gritty of the afternoon competition. A two-phase sampling method was adopted as a research strategy for the ODIN project (Pickles & Dunn, 1995) using a self-rating postal survey to identify potential cases of depressive disorder, followed by structured diagnostic interview and more detailed questionnaires with those participants scoring above threshold.. In North Wales, the initial screening package also included a sub-scale of the SPAQ from which a global seasonality score (GSS) for a given individual was derived. This score ranges from 0 to 24, and indicates the degree of change an individual experiences between the seasons in their sleep, mood, weight, appetite, energy and social activity, and requires that the individual describe whether these changes represent a mild, moderate, marked, severe or disabling problem for them. Beck Depression Inventory (BDI; Beck et al, 1961) scores, short measures of social support, recent life events and basic demographic questions were also incorporated into the screening package in the ...

Enhanced surveillance of meningococcal disease (ESMD) was implemented nationally across ten regions of England, Wales and Northern Ireland from 1 January 1999. It aims to deliver more sensitive surveillance than laboratory reporting by including clinically diagnosed but laboratory unconfirmed cases. Consultants in Communicable Disease Control (CsCDC) report all clinically diagnosed cases of meningococcal disease (MD) to the Regional Epidemiologist in the relevant regional unit of the Public Health Laboratory Service (PHLS) Communicable Disease Surveillance Centre (CDSC). These reports are reconciled with laboratory data from the PHLS Meningococcal Reference Unit and then forwarded to the national CDSC where further reconciliation with laboratory data takes place. In addition, CsCDC are asked to report any clusters of MD that occur. Between 1 January 1999 and 30 June 2001, 12,074 cases of MD were ascertained through ESMD. The majority (57%) were laboratory confirmed. The estimated incidence of MD ...

Following a decade in the recruitment industry, Aimee launched Career Cake to provide online video platform for individuals and businesses to help with their personal and professional development.. After seeking investment in London and Silicon Valley, Aimee was warned about the limited prospects Wales would offer as a base for a tech company. She sought Development Bank of Wales as not only a source of funding but also an organisation that understood the value of creating business in Wales.. The funding provided by the Development Bank of Wales primarily allowed Career Cake to ramp up its video production. But with increased production came increased ...

Work to demolish the Queens Buildings has resumed following a slight pause.. The demolition was temporarily put on hold whilst structural engineers and contractors worked to determine the safe demolition of the remaining buildings and the removal of asbestos.. Although the project has made positive progress, with just over half of the buildings already demolished, the pause means the demolition phase will be completed later than initially planned.. The Queens Buildings has been named as the key catalyst project within the Councils wider Rhyl Regeneration programme.. Cllr Hugh Evans OBE, Leader of Denbighshire County Council and Lead Member for the Economy, said: It was important to pause the project to ensure the safety of the public and buildings operatives. I am pleased the areas of concern have been resolved and the demolition work can now continue.. The contractors have already made good progress with the demolition and I am looking forward to watching the project develop further ...

We know on the contrary of large farmlands with Muslim workforce in the south (Andalusia) and East (Aragon, Valencia) and that the landowners resisted actively the decrees forcing conversion-or-exile out of fear of losing their workforce. Of all this area of historical Muslim workforce, only West Andalusia fits in the pattern but not better than Asturias, Galicia or León... or even North Wales! Yeah, no kidding, theres a community in North Wales that has frequencies of E1b-M81 much larger than anywhere in Iberia. All this fits much better with founder effects related to Neolithic (bounce of Cardial in Morocco?), Megalithism and Bell Beaker (both phenomena rooted in Portugal). But there is a significant chance that it is even older: from the ...

The heritage of one Scarlet has proved quite the topic of conversation in the past couple of months, the form of England-born No 8 Ben Morgan catching the eyes of national selectors on both sides of the Severn Bridge. He qualifies to play for Wales in January so the big question is whether England will cap him first. However, Martin Johnson might wish hed known that another Scarlet was born in England, particularly as this one could have helped solve his sides chronic midfield problems. As it is, Jonathan Davies is well and truly committed to the Wales cause despite being born in Solihull.. Not many people know that, says Davies of his birthplace. I dont have the accent - I dont think it would go down well in West Wales! My parents had moved out of Wales but then came back when I was six months old. Its never been an issue for me. I see myself as Welsh.. His family settled in Bancyfelin in Carmarthenshire and he was introduced to rugby at primary school. While he started out as a ...

Syphilis and gonorrhoea: resurgence of age-old problems. In the third part of our sexual health series, Dr Olwen Williams advises who is at risk and how to manage general practice patients. There has been an unprecedented rise in the number of new cases of syphilis over the past five years. In 1997, a small outbreak associated with acquisition through heterosexual intercourse, commercial sex work and crack cocaine occurred in Bristol.. Subsequent outbreaks in Brighton, Manchester, Edinburgh, Glasgow and London have been mainly in men who have sex with men.. Over this period there has been a 1500 per cent rise, while in 2003 a total of 1,580 new diagnoses of primary and secondary infectious syphilis was reported to the Communicable Disease Surveillance Centres, in men who have sex with men (MSM).. In the London outbreak, homosexually-acquired syphilis made up 1,276/1,910 of the total number of cases, 44 per cent of the men were thought to have acquired their infection through oral sex and 53 per ...
