Vitamin B Supplementation Reduces Atherosclerosis. In what authors believe to be the first placebo-controlled evidence that vitamin supplementation can reduce atherosclerosis in at-risk patients, researchers report a combination of vitamin B6, vitamin B12 and folic acid significantly reduced thickening of the carotid artery among participants in a recent study. According to German findings published in the July 2005 journal Atherosclerosis, men and women at risk of cerebral ischemia saw a reduction of IMT (intima-media thickness) of the carotid artery, the thickness of which is used as a key determiner for the presence and extent of atherosclerosis. To our knowledge, the data presented in this report give the first placebo-controlled evidence that vitamin supplementation can reduce carotid IMT in patients at cardiovascular risk and with an age-corresponding plasma HCy [homocysteine] concentration, write the studys authors. In a double blind, randomized trial, lead researcher Uwe Till and ...
B vitamins are also essential for the synthesis of red blood cells, normal cell replication, and many more crucial functions. Known for their anti-stress and anti-fatigue properties, a B-50 complex is an important consideration in a health optimization/anti-aging program.. B Vitamins Reduce the Risk of Cervical and Colon Cancer. The nutritional status of certain B vitamins has emerged as an important factor in the risk profile for cervical and colon cancer. Folic acid and vitamin B12 are required to help the body convert a compound called homocysteine to methionine. Once formed, methionine is readily converted to S-adenosylmethionine, which is necessary to form the DNA that makes up our genetic blueprints for life.. If folic acid and/or vitamin B12 status become suboptimal, the amount of S-adenosylmethionine declines. This results in an inability to properly produce DNA as cells replace themselves from one generation to the next. The danger is that genetic errors become more common, and genetic ...

A double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled Australian study tried to understand the relationship between B-vitamin supplementation, workplace stress and mood measures and also wanted to analyze whether dispensing vitamin B supplements for around 6 months had the ability to improve stress-related problems in healthy, working individuals. The study groups secondary aim was to examine the mechanisms underpinning any mood or workplace stress enhancing actions of B vitamins by looking at the relationship between cognitive, biological and cardiovascular variables over these 6 months. The team chose 200 full-time participants who were aged between 30 and 65 years and reported feeling stressed in the workplace. The team excluded those individuals who suffered from psychiatric or neurological disorders, disorders affecting food metabolism, had diabetes, consumed alcohol regularly, suffered vision problems or suffered from chronic diseases. They also ruled out those participants who were pregnant, ...

Objective: Homocysteinemia may play an etiologic role in the pathogenesis of type 2 diabetes by promoting oxidative stress, systemic inflammation, and endothelial dysfunction. We investigated whether homocysteine-lowering treatment by B vitamin supplementation prevents the risk of type 2 diabetes.. Research Design and Methods: The Womens Antioxidant and Folic Acid Cardiovascular Study (WAFACS), a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial of 5,442 female health professionals who were 40 years or older and had a history of cardiovascular disease (CVD) or three or more CVD risk factors, included 4,252 women free of diabetes at baseline. Participants were randomly assigned to either an active treatment group (daily intake of a combination pill of 2.5 mg of folic acid, 50 mg of vitamin B6, and 1 mg of vitamin B12) or to the placebo group.. Results: During a median follow-up of 7.3 years, 504 women had an incident diagnosis of type 2 diabetes. Overall, there was no significant difference ...

A study involving 266 people with mild cognitive impairment (aged 70+) has found that B vitamins are more effective in slowing cognitive decline when people have higher omega 3 levels.. Participants were randomly selected to receive either a B-vitamin supplement (folic acid, vitamins B6 and B12) or a placebo pill for two years. The vitamins had little to no effect for those with low levels of omega-3 fatty acids, but were very effective for those with high baseline omega-3 levels.. Levels of DHA appeared to be more important than levels of EPA, but more research is needed to confirm that.. The finding may help to explain why research looking at the effects of B vitamins, or the effects of omega-3 oils, have produced inconsistent findings.. The study followed research showing that B vitamins can slow or prevent brain atrophy and memory decline in people with MCI, and they were most effective in those who had above average blood levels of ...

Balanced B vitamin formula As a complex, the B vitamins are essential for the proper functioning of the nervous system and are perhaps the most important nutritional factor for healthy nerve cells. The B vitamins also play a role in the conversion of carbohydrates into energy, in the metabolism of fats and protein, and in the maintenance of muscle tone in the GI tract. The B vitamins support the integrity of the skin, hair, and liver. This balanced combination of functionally interrelated B vitamins provides wide ranging benefits, yet is specifically supportive of the nervous system. As part of a well-balanced diet that is low in saturated fat and cholesterol, folic acid, vitamin B6, and vitamin B12 may reduce the risk of vascular disease. FDA evaluated the above claim and found that while it is known that diets low in saturated fat and cholesterol reduce the risk of heart disease and other vascular diseases, the evidence in support of the above claim is inconclusive. each vegetable

B vitamins are cofactors in literally thousands of enzymatic reactions in the body and are especially critical for energy-releasing reactions (glycolysis, Krebs cycle reactions, gluconeogenesis and lipolysis). Most physiological processes require multiple B vitamins, hence the wisdom of supplementing B-vitamins as a complex with a balance of all. B-Complex also contains choline and inositol, which are non-essential cofactors for efficient fat metabolism and cell membrane function.. B complex vitamins are involved as essential co-factors in thousands of enzymatic reactions that occur in the body.. Chief among these include: ...

Vitamin B6 is composed of pyridoxine and two closely related compounds. It is found in small quantities in many foods, though it can be destroyed in the cooking process. No clear deficiency disease has been recognised in humans as being directly caused by lack of this vitamin, since it is often found in conjunction with other B vitamins and their absence has greater effects. Its main role is in the conversion of some amino acids into other ones, depending on the requirements of the ...
Hi!! My blood-work just showed I have two copies of the a1298c mutation. My doctor is waiting on all of my tests to come in to discuss the results with me. From what Ive read, this mutation CAN be linked to recurrent miscarriages (ive had two now) but is easily treated by just getting a different form of folic acid and other B vitamins. What else can they do, and should they start treating this ASAP since we are TTC?!

PAY ATTENTION TO B VITAMINS: Your ability to absorb B12 in food diminishes by age 40, setting the stage for brain degeneration years later. MRIs reveal that people ages 61 to 87 with the lowest vitamin B12 have six times more brain shrinkage than people highest in B12. One solution: supplements of B vitamins. British researchers prevented 90 percent of the usual shrinkage by giving high daily doses of B vitamins (800 mcg folic acid, 20 mg vitamin B6, 500 mcg B12) for two years: Regular shots of B12 can also slow brain shrinkage. Since a B12 deficiency can be mistaken for dementia, any older person with failing memory should get a blood test for B12 ...

Are you getting enough B vitamins? Good health starts with these building blocks known as Vitamins B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B7, B9 and B12 all of which are water-soluble. These eight vitamins are used by the body on a daily basis and without them a range of symptoms can occur. They are therefore required to be replenished daily to guarantee that the body is getting enough B vitamins consistently.
The B vitamins help to maintain the health of the nerves, skin, eyes, hair, and mouth. Because a deficiency in one B vitamin usually means a deficiency in another, it is important to take B vitamins together. Many B-complex vitamins assist in the metabolism of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins ...
Here is the thing: if you are only looking at your MTHFR status things can go only one way. Your doctor runs the test and says you have a "mutation". They may say you have a heterozygous mutation or a homozygous mutation and this has been linked to any number of health problems and now you need lots of expensive B vitamins. Dont get me wrong, methylated B vitamins are super helpful for a lot of people, but I dont think one or two variants in your MTHFR status is how you decide that. There is a lot of redundancy or back up plans in the system.. What we miss when we are looking at our SNPs is that this is only our potential, not what is actually happening or being expressed by our genes. Your genetic code is, of course, important however the more we learn the more we realize that epigenetics or the environment which determines which of your genes are actualized is much more important. My favorite analogy is that of a house. Your DNA is the architects plans. These are the paper instructions for ...

Changes in body water elicit reflex adjustments at the kidney, thus maintaining fluid volume homeostasis. These renal adjustments change the concentration and color of urine, variables that can, in turn, be used as biomarkers of hydration status. It has been suggested that vitamin supplementation alters urine color; it is unclear whether any such alteration would confound hydration assessment via colorimetric evaluation. We tested the hypothesis that overnight vitamin B2 and/or B12 supplementation alters urine color as a marker of hydration status. Thirty healthy volunteers were monitored during a 3-day euhydrated baseline, confirmed via first morning nude body mass, urine specific gravity, and urine osmolality. Volunteers then randomly received B2 (n = 10), B12 (n = 10), or B2 + B12 (n = 10) at ∼200 × recommended dietary allowance. Euhydration was verified on trial days (two of the following: body mass ± 1.0% of the mean of visits 1-3, urine specific gravity | 1.02, urine osmolality | 700 mmol/kg).
