The present study investigated the effects of dietary supplementation of stinging nettle (Urtica dioica) on growth performance, skin mucus, immune response and disease resistance of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) fed with diets supplemented with U. dioica at 0, 1, 2 and 3%. After 8 weeks of feeding, the addition of U. dioica at 3% level resulted in improved weight gain, specific growth rate and feed conversion ratio significantly when compared to the other groups (P , 0.05). Hematological responses including: hematocrit (Htc), hemoglobin (Hb), lymphocyte and neutrophil populations enhanced significantly in fish fed 3% of stinging nettle when measured after 4 weeks; while, total red blood cells, white blood, Htc, Hb, lymphocyte and neutrophil populations significantly increased after 8 weeks in the same group (P , 0 ...
For thousands of years, medicine and natural products have been closely interconnected through the use of traditional medicine. Despite competition from other drug discovery methods, natural products are still providing their fair share of new clinical candidates [25]. Urtica dioica is traditionally used for the treatment of hypertension [4].. The aim of this study was to confirm the medicinal importance of U. dioica in hypertension. Invasive blood pressure monitoring technique was used. This protocol allowed us to observe the effect of extract and fractions directly injected into the systemic circulation. Intravenous injection of the methanolic extract of U. dioica and its fractions caused a dose-dependent fall in MAP in both normotensive and hypertensive rats. However the effect was more significant in the hypertensive rats. When compared to the parent crude extract, ethylacetate fraction was more potent, and aqueous fraction was least potent. To see if the blood pressure lowering effect of ...
The aim of this study was to characterize the anti-inflammatory mode of action of botanical extracts from rosehip (Rosa canina), willow bark (Salix alba), and nettle leaf (Urtica dioica) in an in vitro model of primary canine articular chondrocytes. Methods. The biological effects of the botanical extracts were studied in chondrocytes treated with IL-1 beta for up to 72h. Expression of collagen type II, cartilage-specific proteoglycan (CSPG), beta 1-integrin, SOX-9, COX-2, and MMP-9 and MMP-13 was examined by western blotting. Results. The botanical extracts suppressed IL-1 beta-induced NF-kappa B activation by inhibition of I kappa B alpha phosphorylation, I kappa B alpha degradation, p65 phosphorylation, and p65 nuclear translocation. These events correlated with downregulation of NF-kappa B targets including COX-2 and MMPs. The extracts also reversed the IL-1 beta-induced downregulation of collagen type II, CSPG, beta 1-integrin, and cartilage-specific transcription factor SOX-9 protein ...

Diabetes type 2 is a metabolic disorder that characterized by hyperglycemia and insulin resistance. Hyperglycemia and impairment of oxidant/antioxidant balance, can increase oxidative stress and increase risk of cardiovascular disease. In the present study, Effects of hydro alcoholic extract of Nettle on oxidative stress in type 2 diabetes were evaluated. Fifty patients (27 men, 23 women) with type 2 diabetes patients were studied. They received 100 mg kg(-1) of nettle extract of body weight hydro alcoholic for 8 weeks. At the baseline and end of 8th weeks of intervention blood levels of oxidative stress markers were measured. Data was analyzed by SPSS version 18, p | 0.05 was considered significant for all variables. After 8 weeks, Total Antioxidant Capacity (TAC) and Superoxidant Dismutase (SOD) showed a significant increase in the intervention group compared to the control group (p | 0.05). The findings showed that the hydro alcoholic extract of nettle has increasing effects on TAC and SOD in

Among the periods of November to March, the tree nettle flowers.[3] Because the tree nettle is a dioecious shrub,[4] it will cross pollinate. The pollen of male flowers can transfer to the female flowers through wind. These pollen grains can be collected by female dense stigmas.[5] When pollen arrives in the female flowers, the pollination of female flowers will begin. Then in January, the fruit of tree nettle mature. The seed of tree nettle is one and half millimeters long and brown color, ovoid shape like.[6] When the seed is planted in the environment which has more light and water, it will take one month to germinate. One study found that the seeds germinate after one month in soil, the seeds germinate throughout winter and spring of the year they are dropped. In this study cited[7] out of the 5 different Woody seeding species Urtica ferox had the lowest germination rate of 59% compared to ,85% of the other similar species, the author surmise that Tree Nettle is capable of building up a ...

3,4-Divanillytetrahydrofuran. The dietary supplement 3,4-Divanillytetrahydrofuran is a naturally occurring nettle root extract. In fact, it is the most potent extract from the Urtica dioica plant. This plant ligand attaches to your sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG). When your SHBG is attached or bound to 3,4-Divanillytetrahydrofuran, it becomes unable to bind to your free testosterone. This makes your free testosterone levels skyrocket because your SHBG is unable to render your free testosterone inactive. The result is your testosterone level can now exceed your normal range giving you more testosterone available for building muscle and less that goes wasted.. There are also other perks to using 3,4-Divanillytetrahydrofuran. This is because 3,4-divanillyltetrahydrofuran is able to have a positive impact on various aspects of your health. To begin with it can improve blood circulation, which of course can improve your blood pressure and heart rate, not to mention improve your physical ...
