Definition of Urogenital tract in the Financial Dictionary - by Free online English dictionary and encyclopedia. What is Urogenital tract? Meaning of Urogenital tract as a finance term. What does Urogenital tract mean in finance?
Urogenital system development in mammals requires the coordinated differentiation of two distinct tissues, the ductal epithelium and the nephrogenic mesenchyme, both derived from the intermediate mesoderm of the early embryo. The former give rise to the genital tracts, ureters and kidney collecting duct system, whereas mesenchymal components undergo epithelial transformation to form nephrons in both the mesonephric (embryonic) and metanephric (definitive) kidney. Pax-2 is a transcriptional regulator of the paired-box family and is widely expressed during the development of both ductal and mesenchymal components of the urogenital system. We report here that Pax-2 homozygous mutant newborn mice lack kidneys, ureters and genital tracts. We attribute these defects to dysgenesis of both ductal and mesenchymal components of the developing urogenital system. The Wolffian and Mullerian ducts, precursors of male and female genital tracts, respectively, develop only partially and degenerate during ...
Carnegie stages are named after the famous US Institute which began collecting and classifying embryos in the early 1900s. The human embryonic period proper is divided into 23 Carnegie stages and covers most of the first trimester of human development. Carnegie stages are based on the external and/or internal morphological development of the embryo, and are not directly dependent on either age or size. Criteria beyond morphological features include age in days, number of somites present, and embryonic length. Similar staging criteria can be applied to embryos from other species. ...

Stages are based on the external and/or internal morphological development of the vertebrate embryo, and are not directly dependent on either age or size. The human embryonic period proper is divided into 23 Carnegie stages. Criteria beyond morphological features include age in days, number of somites present, and embryonic length. As this staging can be applied to all vertebrates, and most vertebrate embryos develop during the embryonic period in much the same way, we can directly compare the timing of development for different species. From the table you can see that to reach the end of embryonic development, Carnegie stage 23, can take from as little as 10 days in chickens to nearly 60 days in humans. Carnegie is the name of a historical US Institute that historically categorised these developmental stages, and continues to study embryology today. ...
The hosting and delivery of the GUDMAP resource will soon be from the University of Southern California (USC) as NIH funding for resources is now restricted to US-based institutions. In the last few years here in Edinburgh we have developed a new version of the site, based on a UX survey, and we would welcome your feedback on how well it provides a new experience to find images and data. We believe it provides a much easier and more intuitive querying mechanism. Note this alternative site WILL NOT become the new GUDMAP3 web interface but we hope to incorporate aspects of this in other projects. Please let us know what you think. Characteristics of clinical forms of tuberculosis of the genitourinary system.. The initial stage of the disease is associated with hematogenous spread of infection and active foci of primary or secondary tuberculosis to other organs. The development of a specific process goes through all the stages of morphological evolution - from hematogenous foci, surrounded by elements of tuberculous granuloma and caseous necrosis in the center, merging into limited infiltrates (caseiomas) with predominant localization in the cortex, to the complete destruction of the kidney and ureter.. Tuberculosis of the renal parenchyma. With this form of tuberculosis, slight contrasting of the cup-and-pelvic system of the affected kidney is noted, chaotic placement of the calyxes, their deformation (bulbous enlargement, amputation, etc.), a symptom of destruction is absent (nondestructive tuberculosis of the kidney).. Tuberculous papillitis. Characterized by the presence of signs of destruction (the initial form of ...

My research program focuses on urogenital system development (e.g. kidneys, ureters, prostate) and on the different cancers affecting this system (kidney and prostate). In the urinary system, we are studying how the first renal cell appear in the embryo, induced from progenitor cells (or stem cells). We are trying to understand how these cells organize themselves to generate the different tissues forming the urogenital system. Another interesting question we are addressing is how the ureter manages to connect to the bladder during embryo development ...

The murine Lbx2 gene is a member of the ladybird family of homeobox genes, which is expressed in the developing urogenital system, eye, and brain. Using transgenic mice, we demonstrate that 9 kb of the 5 flanking region of mouse Lbx2 is able to direct expression of a reporter gene in a tissue-specific manner recapitulating the endogenous expression pattern. This regulatory region provides a novel reagent allowing for transgenic expression in the developing urogenital ridge. In addition, we describe the identification of the human homologue, LBX2. Comparison of the human LBX2 and mouse Lbx2 sequences upstream of the coding regions reveals sequence conservation suggesting conserved regulatory regions. Both the human LBX2 and the mouse Lbx2 genes have similar genomic structures and are composed of two exons separated by an intron. We mapped the mouse Lbx2 gene to 35 cM on chromosome 6 and the human LBX2 gene to a homologous region of chromosome 2p13. This is a candidate region for several

The mechanism further explains how brain synapses strengthen in response to new experiences. Previous research by Carnegie Mellon researcher and lead author of the study Alison Barth has shown that there is a connection between synaptic plasticity, or changes, and learning and memory. However, little was known about the mechanisms that underlie learning that occurs over longer timeframes, with continuing training or practice.. Scientists have shown that N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptors are required to initiate synaptic plasticity in this mechanism, a fact that holds true in many areas of the brain. Indeed, it is becoming increasingly clear that these receptors are required for the kind of synaptic strengthening that occurs during learning. Barth and colleagues discovered that the NMDA receptors undergo a sort of Jekyll-and-Hyde transition after an initial phase of learning. Instead of helping synapses get stronger, they actually begin to weaken the synapses and impair further learning. ...
Hirokazu Sasamoto, a grad student at Carnegie Mellon CyLab Japan, Eiji Hayashi (E 06) and Carnegie Mellon faculty Nicolas Christin are changing the way people think about cybersecurity.. Christin explains that researchers typically consider the human factor as the Achilles heel of security.. Instead, we show that one can make systems more secure by specifically relying on things humans are very good at, for instance, our ability to mentally combine tactile and visual information very quickly, he said. We are really turning the problem on its head; rather than viewing the users as a constraint, we rely on them to make the system more secure.. Sasamoto, Hayashi and Christin think there may be practical applications just around the corner - and their paper, Undercover: Authentication Usable in Front of Prying Eyes, has been accepted by a world class human-computer interaction conference. The conference - CHI 2008 - will be held in Florence, Italy, in April.. Both in terms of scale and ...

Anatomy was really interesting today. We had one cadaver that showed all of the vasculature in the back part of the abdomen, two that showed the urogenital systems (one male, one female), and one station with embalmed kidneys. We also did radiology. The two cadavers showing the male and female urinary systems were really neat. The bladders had also been dissected open, so we were able to see what they look like from the inside. You can tell the male and female bodies apart just by looking in the abdomen if you look at the orientations of their gonadal blood vessels. Womens travel more toward the center, while mens travel toward the outside. One of the cadavers also had two ureters, which was pretty neat. The ureters are the tubes that carry urine from the kidneys to the bladder. Normally you only have one from each kidney, but apparently a minority of the population has an extra one, including this particular cadaver ...
It seems like you have been suffering from all these symptoms for a while. Based on your description, you seem to have pain in middle to lower abdomen which is not associated with any other symptoms. The only positive things is occasional nausea and tenderness. Considering the severity of pain 8/10, further investigation is must. This kind of pain in that location could be associated with gastrointestinal or urogenital system. It can be be just inflammation of intestine or infection. The important point is to pin point the cause of pain and source. In females large intestine, uterus, tube, or urinary bladder can be the source of pain in the case of infection, inflammation, or tumor. At this point, I think you need to go for blood test, ultrasound, urine/stool test to pin point the cause of pain so that it can be treated effectively. The best person to treat these kind of issues would be gastrointerologist ...

A surgical apparatus has a body portion that includes a shaft terminating in a distal head or tip for directing light radiation from the apparatus onto the lining of a body cavity for treating an ailment in a body cavity of a patient as for example a gastrointestinal ailment of a patient such as gastritis, gastric ulcer, duodenal ulcer, gastric cancer, gastric lymphoma, ulcerative colitis, or Crohns disease as well as for treating diseases of the circulatory system, urogenital systems and other body cavities. During use, the shaft of the apparatus is inserted into a body cavity, e.g., stomach or colon, of the patient to place the distal tip of the shaft in the desired position. The body cavity of the patient is then irradiated with light radiation so as to kill or debilitate microorganisms lining the body cavity without serious destruction of the body tissue of the patient to thereby improve or alleviate one or more of the symptoms of the ailment. In September, 2001, the National Institute of Diabetes, Digestive, and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) convened a working group of its National Advisory Council to develop a strategic plan for Stem Cells and Developmental Biology. The working group made several recommendations, with the overall goals of providing new strategies for repairing or replacing damaged organs and generating new insights into pathologic processes underlying developmental defects and disease. There is the need for a more thorough understanding of organogenesis so that tissue degeneration and congenital malformations might be prevented and treated. The goal of GUDMAP is a fundamental description of the developing kidney and GU tract. The panel recommended that the following three objectives be combined to form the GUDMAP. a) High throughput in situ hybridization analyses to define the expression pattern of genes expressed in the developing kidney and GU tract, b) High resolution gene expression analyses to define gene expression ...

The only de facto choice available collectively to the EU is to focus on soft security in Asia. European diplomats are clear that the EU cannot be a hard power in the region and that it can only add a nontraditional security perspective. But even this approach carries with it problems and limitations, including what Asian diplomats say is the EUs frequent unwillingness to be tough on China.. A soft security role would mark a distinctive contribution in a region already replete with hard realpolitik, and it offers something different from the U.S. presence and security guarantees in the region. If the U.S. pivot is widely perceived to be aimed at containing China, the EU argues that Asian security depends on all-inclusive mechanisms of integration and cooperative rule making. European Union officials distinguish the European and U.S. approaches to Asian security thus: "The U.S. will be an Asian power. We will be an Asian partner."24. However, while nontraditional security is now formally on the ...

When I think back over my career, there are several names that stand out. They were not managers. They were just ordinary people. John Steele and I worked together at a long ago business. He took me under his wing, just because. And I learned so much about the "real" sales world from him. Rita Long was my Dale Carnegie instructor. This gene encodes a transcription factor that contains four zinc-finger motifs at the C-terminus and a proline/glutamine-rich DNA-binding domain at the N-terminus. It plays an essential role in the normal development of the urogenital system, and the orthologous human gene is mutated in a small subset of patients with Wilm's tumors. Alternative splicing has been noted for this gene, however, the full-length nature of these variants is not known. The mRNA for this gene has been shown to initiate translation from non-AUG (CUG) and AUG translation start sites, resulting in different isoforms. [provided by RefSeq, Apr 2013 ...

environmental pollutants. NAPE also works to involve physicians in global environmental issues such as biological diversity. Airing the Word on Pollution. According to the conference summary, published 20 September 1995, air pollutants can enter the body through various ways--not just by inhalation. They can be absorbed through the skin or ingested by eating food or drinking water that has been contaminated, possibly through bioaccumulation in the food chain. The pollutants in food and water that humans and animals are most likely to be exposed to include pesticides, PCBs, dioxin, and heavy metals such as cadmium, lead, and mercury, says the report. Such pollutants can cause a variety of adverse health effects including respiratory ailments, damage to the blood system leading to anemia or leukemia, heart disease, including hypertension and cardiac arrhythmias, and damage to the urogenital system resulting in kidney disease, bladder cancer, and reproductive problems. To stay joyful and balanced, dont forget your intimate flora! In Depth: Once we are thinking about the best probiotics for women to acquire, we need to consider the desires of two different anatomical locations, specifically the GI tract and also the urogenital tract. Because of the proximity in the vagina to the anus, its a lot easier in women for pathogenic microorganisms to cross about from your GI tract towards the urogenital tract and induce a condition of dysbiosis there, than it really is in men ...
What organ system does kidneys belong to - How does chronic kidney disease affect the renal system and organs? Renal equals kidney. The kidney is the basic engine of the renal system. It is what processes the wastes and corrects the chemicals in the body. The remainder of the renal or genitourinary system is the plumbing that allows the liquid wastes of the body to be eliminated.
The mesoderm forms the cardiovascular, musculoskeletal, and genitourinary systems. , hair, eyes, nose, and ears). , weeks 5 to 10 gestational age) and is the time when most of the major organ systems are formed. NEURAL TUBE DEFECTS The formation of the neural tube begins on days 22 to 23 after conception (week 4) in the region of the fourth and sixth somites. Fusion of the neural folds occurs in cranial and caudal directions. The anterior neuropore (future brain) closes by day 25 and the posterior pore (future spinal cord) closes by day 27. Therefore, the next best step would be to ask the patient to return in 48 hours for a repeat β-hCG level. A β-hCG level of 1,300 mIU/mL is not above the discriminatory zone for detection of pregnancy and cannot rule out pregnancy. Repeating an ultrasound in 48 hours may not be necessary if the patient has a normal rise in β-hCG level and is not symptomatic. Returning in 1 week for laboratory tests and/or ultrasound would not be advised prior to determining ...
The Kidneys are blood-cleansing organs removing waste and excess fluid from the body in form of urine. The function includes production of hormones, regulation of blood pressure and maintaining a balance of fluid and electrolytes. Healthy people have two kidneys, each about the size of a fist, located behind the abdominal cavity, on either side of the spine at the lowest level of the rib cage. Each kidney contains about a million Nephrons, the filtering unit of the kidney.. Nephrologist: A Physician who specializes in diseases of the kidney.. Urologist: A surgeon who specializes in all aspects of the genitourinary system including the kidney.. Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is a progressive loss in kidney function over a period of months or years. Diabetes Mellitus and Hypertension accounts a majority of cases. Other causes include Cystic kidney diseases, Glomerulonephritis, Drugs, Infections, Inherited and Congenital kidney diseases.. Approximately 30 million Americans have CKD and millions of ...
The Candida albicans fungus exists naturally in the skin, mouth, the mucous membranes lining the digestive tract, and the respiratory and genitourinary systems. This yeast can cause anything from simple mycosis of the skin to complicated cases of candidiasis. It is much more commonly found in patients suffering from immunodeficiency, tumours, diabetes and lymphomas, among other diseases ...

Anaerobic infection is an infectious process (often a complication of the wound process), caused by anaerobes. Among the pathogens A. and. Two groups of microorganisms are distinguished: spore-forming anaerobes, or clostridia, and non-spore-forming (nonclostridial) anaerobes (see Anaerobes). They are an integral part of normal human microflora, are found in the intestines, organs of the genitourinary system, as well as on the surface of the skin, mucous membranes. Anaerobes of exogenous flora are detected in the soil, in the mass of decomposing organic compounds. An important role is played by such factors as the amount of anaerobes in the wound, the morphology and virulence of the pathogens, the potentiating effect of the microbial associates, etc. Pathogenic properties of anaerobes are realized in the presence of deformed and practically devoid of blood supply of tissue sites, chronic intoxication, accompanied by a decrease in protective reactions of the organism, etc.. Clostridial wound ...

A 74-year-old man presented with bilateral testicular masses and back pain. A positron emission tomography scan showed increased metabolic activity in bilateral testes (panel A; ROI, region of interest; SUV, standardized uptake value), and lytic lesions in the left pubic symphysis and L5 vertebral body (panel B). Bilateral orchidectomy and L5 vertebral specimens were characterized by sheets of medium-sized blastic cells (panel D; original magnification ×400, hematoxylin and eosin stain) positive for PAX5 (panel E; original magnification ×400), terminal deoxynucleotidyltransferase (panel F; original magnification ×400), CD10, and CD34 by immunohistochemistry. Fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) analyses performed on both testicular and L5 vertebral specimens revealed BCR-ABL1 rearrangement (panel D, insert). Bone marrow was negative for acute leukemia by morphology and flow cytometry. Results of chromosomal and FISH analyses for BCR-ABL1 were negative. Reverse transcription polymerase ...
The Wilms Tumour gene WT1 has important functions during development. Knock-out mice were shown to have defects in the urogenital system and to die at embryonic day E13.5, probably due to heart failure. Using a lacZ reporter gene inserted into a YAC construct, we demonstrate that WT1 is expressed in the early proepicardium, the epicardium and the subepicardial mesenchymal cells (SEMC). Lack of WT1 leads to severe defects in the epicardial layer and a concomitant absence of SEMCs, which explains the pericardial bleeding and subsequent embryonic death observed in Wt1 null embryos. We further show that a human-derived WT1 YAC construct is able to completely rescue heart defects, but only partially rescues defects in the urogenital system. Analysis of the observed hypoplastic kidneys demonstrate a continuous requirement for WT1 during nephrogenesis, in particular, in the formation of mature glomeruli. Finally, we show that the development of adrenal glands is also severely affected in partially ...
Ureaplasma parvum and Ureaplasma urealyticum are sexually transmitted, opportunistic pathogens of the human urogenital tract. There are 14 known serovars distributed between the two species. For decades, it has been postulated based upon limited data that virulence is related to serotype specificity. The results were often inconclusive due to the small sample size and extensive cross-reactivity between certain serovars. We developed real-time quantitative PCRs that allow reliable differentiation of the two species and type strains of each of the 14 serovars. To investigate species and serovar distributions, we typed 1,061 clinical isolates of human ureaplasmas from diverse patient populations. There was only a tenuous association between individual Ureaplasma serovars and certain patient populations. This may in part be explained by the fact that almost 40% of the isolates were genetic mosaics, apparently arising from the recombination of multiple serovars. This explains the extensive ...
Reconstruction of the endocardium of the heart and its arterial trunks in No. 6520, a member of the median third of stage 17. It is shown in two parts, A and B. In A, only the derivatives of the primary cardiac tube are shown. In B, enough of the primary tube is removed to expose the venous part of the heart. The latter, being in a contracted state, reveals in an unobstructed view the right and left atrioventricular canals, now clearly separated, each leading forward into its respective ventricle. It will be noted that the primary cardiac tube is connected with the venous part of the heart only at the two atrioventricular junctions. When the latter are severed, the arterial portion can be freely separated from the venous part. In A, the cleavage has not yet crossed the crest of the septum, and both arterial trunks lead off from both ventricles. From the distention of the endocardium of the primary cardiac tube, however, one can see that the left ventricle favors the aorta and the right ventricle ...
David M. Sever is an American herpetologist, histologist, anatomist and reproductive biologist. He has been a professor and department head in the Department of Biological Sciences at Southeastern Louisiana University since 2004, and held the Kenneth Dyson Endowed Professorship in Biological Sciences from 2012 to 2015. He is well known for over 30 years of research on the secondary sexual characteristics of salamanders and more generally on comparative histoanatomy of the urogenital systems of vertebrates. and was recognized as the 2013 Distinguished Herpetologist of the Year by the Herpetologists League. A native of Canton, Ohio, Sever was interested in dinosaurs at an early age, but, "You couldnt find dinosaurs, but you could find lizards and turtles, things that looked like dinosaurs." His early exposure to herpetology came from the Boy Scouts, and he is an Eagle Scout. Sever earned his Ph.D. from Tulane University in 1974 where he studied the secondary sexual characters of plethodontid ...

Laurence-Moon-Biedl syndrome and Laurence-Moon-Biedl-Bardet redirect here. See below for an explanation. Bardet-Biedl syndrome (BBS) is a ciliopathic human genetic disorder that produces many effects and affects many body systems. It is characterized principally by obesity, retinitis pigmentosa, polydactyly, hypogonadism, and renal failure in some cases. Historically, slower mental processing has also been considered a principal symptom but is now not regarded as such. Eyes: Pigmentary retinopathy, poor visual acuity, low vision, and/or blindness caused by an impaired photoreceptor transport mechanism in the retina. Nose: Loss of, or reduced sense of, smell (anosmia). Some patients claim extra-sensitive sense of smell. Hand and foot: Polydactyly (extra digits) or syndactyly (webbing of fingers and toes). Cardiovascular system: Hypertrophy of interventricular septum and left ventricle and dilated cardiomyopathy. Gastrointestinal system: Fibrosis. Urogenital system: Hypogonadism, renal failure, ...
