JNS.org - Members of Knesset Yael German, Karin Elharrar, and Yoel Razvozov (all from the Yesh Atid party) intend to put forth a bill that would allow local authorities to operate public transportation on Saturday in Israel. The bill would permit minibuses to run within each locality and on intercity roads.. According to the bill, making public transportation available on Shabbat is designed to give some mobility to sectors that cannot drive or afford to drive, such as the elderly or youths. The bill is set to be presented to Israels Ministerial Committee on Legislation next Sunday.. The bill stipulates that public transportation on Saturday would have a limited scope-only one or two bus lines that go to and from city centers would run, and the buses would not enter religious neighborhoods or pass synagogues.. Elharrar, Rasvozov, and German emphasized that the bill would not affect anyone who wanted to observe Shabbat, since current Israeli law allows any employee to refuse to work on ...

The announcement was made by Bratislava spokesman Peter Bubala.. Moodys claims that it chooses and applies its conceptual reforms from an incomplete boulevard rather than a quick launch of public transportation. Because the face of our city will determine this neighborhood and this major artery for oncoming traffic. In an agreement with investors, we are revising some elements of Boulevard to improve conditions for residents, cyclists, pedestrians and travelers, Bubla said.. The cycling route will be moved along the bi-route north of the street and safely detached from the road. Thus, the collision points designed so far in the area of public transport stops are about to cease. The spokesman said that such a solution would enable the implementation of a two-lane bicycle lane on the south side of the street after the temporary bus station was completed.. The trains will extend from 2.5 to 5.5 meters. The width and number of lanes will also change, the number of bushes and bushes on the ...

A major victory for CalBike this year has been the increase in funding of the newly-created Active Transportation Program (ATP). Months of negotiations and hard work have resulted in the increase of the ATPs budget from $90 million to $129 million.. Californias transportation budget is $12 billion. Active transportation in the budget is dedicated towards means of transportation other than motor vehicles, i.e. walking and bicycling (bike/ped). Despite the many benefits of these modes of transportation, from health benefits that come directly from walking and bicycling to improvement of the environment, the transportation budget focuses much greater emphasis on motor vehicle transportation even though this is the money for instance that goes into creating safer school routes for children on a state level.. ATP should be much more than 1% of the entire transportation budget!. The ATP has to be increased to $1 billion per year because $129 million for making transportation easier and safer for ...

The most effective life-saving traffic safety tool for a commuter and a community may be the daily metro transit pass. A person can reduce his or her chance of being in an accident by more than 90 percent simply by taking public transit as opposed to commuting by car. This means traveling by public transportation is ten times safer per mile than traveling by auto. Transit-oriented communities are five times safer than automobile-oriented communities. This means public transit cuts a communitys crash risk in half even for those who do not use public transit. Public transportation communities spur compact development which reduces auto miles traveled and produces safer speeds ...
Contemporary society is characterised by the constant increase of mobility. Although individual mobilities can be seen as a new form of capital and the premise for innovation, this has also a negative impact on surrounding environment and social structures. Hence, human travel behaviour research is essential for understanding a myriad of different societal issues. To date, human travel behaviour has been thoroughly examined using activity-travel diaries predominantly based on short period of time (up to three days). The need to understand travel behaviour from a longitudinal (monthly, yearly) perspective has increased due to the overall increase of individual mobility, together with the increase of the complexity of human travel behaviour and its flexibility in space and time. Mobile phone based data are perceived to be one promising means to cost-effectively assess human movements and its variability in the prolonged perspective. This dissertation ascertains how mobile phone based data can help ...

Taking public transportation. Part 1Back when I had no car but had to travel and take two seperate buses to and from work. Now I am the type of person who does not like to be around people I dont know but when you live in a small town to travel to the city by bus you get used to seeing the same people over and over. One day it was not crowded as I was taking the bus home so I sat in the back to have room to relax and check out any of the girls I normally see. Unfortunately noone special showed up but from where I was sitting I did see a younger male in his mid 20s masturbating through his sweatpants as he was browsing his phone. Im not into men but I did get turned on I must say. That night I came to the best site to browse videos of men on men and got more arroused and curious than ever before. It was like a c***d inside of me wanting ordu escort to be free. The next day on the bus ride home I was hoping to get the back seat which I did and I was lucky enough to get another view of my voyeur friend.

Thousands of riders boarded UTA trains and buses on Free Fare Friday, Dec. 22, and the result was a significant reduction in air pollution. An extra 17,560 cars were removed from the roads that day, and an additional 3 tons of pollutants and 200 tons of greenhouse gases were prevented from entering the atmosphere. Free Fare Friday was designed to encourage people to try public transit - and it worked, said UTA President/CEO Jerry Benson. Thousands of riders boarded our buses and trains, and we were able to save several tons of pollution from entering our atmosphere during a critical time of year for air quality. We hope this translates to more Wasatch Front residents who are willing to leave their cars at home and ride UTA again, especially during inversion season.. Ridership for the entire UTA system increased by 23 percent on Free Fare Friday, compared to the average of five previous weekdays. Approximately 22,800 more people than usual rode public transit on Dec. 22 using the same ...

State departments of transportation are focusing increased attention on freight transportation. The reasons are many, obvious and compelling. They include: (1) A rapidly increasing volume of freight; (2) Transportation overloads at major freight gateways; (3) Constraints on infrastructure capacity for all modes; (4) The need for efficiency in intermodal connections; and (5) Heavy traffic in major multimodal, multi-state transportation corridors. As a consequence, many State DOTs are analyzing the freight transportation needs of their states, giving greater priority to freight transportation investments, participating in public-private ventures, and engaging in innovative financing arrangements for freight projects. For most, this shift represents new lines of business and new ways of doing business. Many programmatic and technical issues are involved, but the foundation for programs must be constructed through policy and organization decisions. Therefore, the leaders of the State DOTs need to ...

The National Audit Office of Estonia have been investigating the free public transport introduced in Tallinn, including the free bus and tram travel for local registered people. Analysis included studying whether economic feasibility as well as the mobility needs of people had been taken into account when deciding to cut payment by users. Results on the county model were that free public transport has not reached its goal to reduce car journeys. Whilst public transport use numbers have increased, still more than half of all trips to work are done by car.. What is positive is that the decline in the share of public transport users has stopped for a couple of years, stated Auditor General Janar Holm. Unfortunately, not a significant number of new users have been attracted to public transport despite the fact that over the recent years, the state has allocated more and more funds to cover the costs of county bus transport and has allowed people to travel by bus free of charge in most ...

More than 30 members of Congress, including U.S. Reps. Ayanna Pressley (D-MA), Jesus Chuy Garcia (D-IL), and Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), introduced legislation on Thursday calling for equal funding for transit and highways.. Called the Transit Parity Resolution, the legislation would change how Congress determines to fund highways and public transportation. Currently, Congress uses a formula set in 1982 that allocates 80 percent of federal transportation dollars to highways, and the remaining 20 percent to public transit. The resolution calls for transit funding to be equal to highway funding.. Public transit is a public good, and its past time our government treat it like one, Pressley said. For too long, our federal transportation investments have prioritized highways over public transit, incentivizing travel in private cars, which increases traffic congestion, produces pollution, and exacerbates racial and economic inequality.. The resolution is supported by several transportation ...

Background: Public transportation constitutes a vulnerable sector in modern day society with a high probability of generating mass casualties if attacked. By preparing for mass-casualty attacks (MCAs), response can become more effective and public transportation can become a less rewarding target. However, preparedness for attacks, much like response, implies resource constraints, and this dissertation pinpoints some major dilemmas that inhibit achieving preparedness for MCAs on public transportation in Sweden.. Aim: The aim of this dissertation was to investigate preparedness for mass-casualty attacks on public transportation. This allowed for identification of major challenges for preparedness and response with a particular focus on the Swedish context.. Methods: Study I included 477 MCAs identified through searches of the Global Terrorism Database, journals, newspapers and websites, which were examined with descriptive statistics. Study II thematically analyzed 105 articles attained by ...
Active Transportation is any form of human-powered transportation, such as walking, cycling, using a wheel-chair, in-line skating, or skateboarding. Fayettevilles Active Transportation Plan outlines a network of sidewalks, trails, and bicycle facilities to provide walkers, cyclists, and other users with clear pathways and connections to important City destinations, just like streets and roads do for motorized vehicles. When the plan was adopted, 63 percent of Fayetteville residents lived within 1/2 mile of a shared-use paved trail. By 2040, this number is projected to increase to 97 percent! The global pandemic of physical inactivity represents a considerable public health challenge. Active transportation (i.e., walking or cycling for transport) can contribute to greater total physical activity levels. Mobile phone-based programs can promote behaviour change, but no study has evaluated whether such a program can promote active transportation in adults. This study protocol presents the design and methodology of The Smart City Active Mobile Phone Intervention (SCAMPI), a randomised controlled trial to promote active transportation via a smartphone application (app) with the aim to increase physical activity. A two-arm parallel randomised controlled trial will be conducted in Stockholm County, Sweden. Two hundred fifty adults aged 20-65 years will be randomised to either monitoring of active transport via the TRavelVU app (control), or to a 3-month evidence-based behaviour change program to promote active transport and monitoring of active travel via the TRavelVU Plus app (intervention). We understand that the world is changing, and our transportation systems must adapt to those changes. Some changes are cultural: young professionals, in particular, prefer dense urban living and rely on transit, bicycling, and walking. Some are political: the amount of money available for improving our transportation systems can sometimes be uncertain and unstable. Many changes are technological: Transportation Network Companies (TNCs) such as Uber and Lyft, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), and autonomous vehicles will continue to influence the way we live, work, and travel.. While culture and politics are elusive, we believe that technology is where professionals can play a major role in adapting our transportation systems to our changing world. Our staff features specialists who have been designing ITS for the California High-Speed Rail project. We are researching how new technologies can be integrated into public transportation systems. Were also strategizing how TNC services can ...
For the past several months, work has continued on processing the Benjamin Gettler Papers donated to the Archives & Rare Books Library. Gettler was a notable lawyer, businessman, and civic activist in Cincinnati, an international philanthropist, and a former member of the University of Cincinnati Board of Trustees. Ive been fascinated by the amount of public transit-related history in this collection. An often over-looked part of urban history is transportation infrastructure. Public transportation records can tell us not only where people lived, worked, and played, but also the routes taken and who the routes served. They can also provide insight into how, where, or why neighborhoods changed over time.. Cincinnatis public transportation, as we recognize it today, really began in 1873 when several horse-drawn tram systems merged to form the Cincinnati Consolidated Railway Company. Nearly a decade later, it was renamed the Cincinnati Street Railway Company (Gettler, 2012). It remained the ...
Testimony by Julia Kite, Policy and Research Manager, Transportation Alternatives. ***SUPPORT***. Thank you for convening this hearing. I am Julia Kite, Policy and Research Manager of Transportation Alternatives. We are a 43-year-old membership-based advocacy organization with more than 150,000 New Yorkers in our network, dedicated to biking, walking, and public transportation as city-friendly alternatives to private automobile use in New York City. We advocate on behalf of all of New York Citys pedestrians, cyclists, and transit users for safer and more livable streets.. The topic of todays hearing is very timely, because the parking systems currently in place in New York City are unsustainable, inequitable, and an impractical use of public space. For too long, parking policies have privileged the free or low-cost storage of private property, in the form of cars, on huge swathes of city streets, while pedestrians and public transit users are forced to compete for whatever space they can get. ...
Freight infrastructure is critical to our future growth and competitiveness, said Congressman Smith. The Fixing Americas Surface Transportation (FAST) Act, passed by Congress in 2015, supports regionally significant freight and highway projects with funds distributed through a grant program and formula funding. The Freight Infrastructure Reinvestment Act (FIRA) of 2017 will expand upon the investments of the FAST Act by creating a sustainable national freight discretionary grant program supported by a dedicated funding source.. With the creation of a National Freight Mobility Infrastructure Fund, FIRA will administer strategic grants for infrastructure projects across our national freight mobility network. Funded through a minimal one percent fee on the shipment of freight cargo, this program ...

To get around by bus, tram, or metro youll need an OV-chipkaart (public transport chip card)-an electronic payment system, which you hold up to a detector each time you board and leave any bus or tram. You can buy them preloaded at metro, train, and bus stations, or from some magazine kiosks. The cards are debited according to the distance traveled; you can add value to them at machines in the stations. Visit the OV-chipkaart website (www.ov-chipkaart.nl) or call the help desk (0900/0980) for more information. You can also buy one-hour tickets from bus/tram drivers, although this works out to be more expensive. The OV-chipkaart can also be used on trains (the check-in/check-out detectors for the trains are clearly marked and in the railway stations, not on board). You have to activate your card for rail travel at one of the OV ticket machines at a railway station. Teams of ticket inspectors occasionally make spot checks on trams and buses. This doesnt happen often but if you are checked and ...

This summer the Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) of northeastern Illinois is launching a unifying marketing campaign to focus on the benefits of riding transit. The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA), Metra and Pace provide two million rides each weekday and riders and non-riders alike benefit from transit in the six-county system.. Transit is the great equalizer, bringing people together from all across our region, says RTA Executive Director Leanne Redden. Riders on public transportation save time and money, and non-riders benefit because public transportation in our region means fewer cars on the road. This summer, the RTA and its transit agencies will focus on how transit unites us and opens doors to economic opportunity for all.. After nearly a decade without a State of Illinois capital program, transit in the RTA region will get a much-needed infusion from the Rebuild Illinois bill passed on June 2 by the General Assembly. Some questions this paper seeks to answer are: Have resources allocated to safety measures changed as a consequence of the internationalization of transportation systems? Have actual work practices improved or been impeded as a result of the new circumstances affecting the transportation industry? Welcome to Car Free Americas Web Site... Hi. Im Steve Atlas, founder of CarFreeAmerica.org. I appreciate you visiting our web site. I hope you have viewed some of our city profiles-places with walkable neighborhoods where you can live without needing to depend on a car. If you havent already, look at our gasoline price ticker on the bottom left side of our home page. As you see the price of gas steadily increase (or temporarily decrease to under $4 a gallon), do you remember when gas cost less than $1 per gallon? Carpooling, selling large homes in communities far from public transportation, biking or using public transportation instead of driving-these are just a few ways people are changing the way they live. Reducing our dependency on a car doesnt need to be a grim business-like taking an unpleasant medicine. Driving less can be fun. Walking, cycling, and using public ...
A coalition of private sector leaders introduced a major vision for transportation in the Indianapolis metropolitan area today, with the goal of altering the regions current focus on automobile transportation.. The Central Indiana Transit Task Force has assigned itself the responsibility of rethinking the way road and transit dollars are spent and has put forward a proposal backed by the citys corporate forces. By advancing a program supported by the private sector and developed after a serious consideration of the economic side-effects, the Task Force hopes it will be able to move forward more successfully than have similar projects proposed by public sector actors.. The primary components of the Task Forces $1.2 billion strategy for improved transit in the metro region are rail-based: a 17-mile commuter rail line northeast from downtown to Fishers to be completed in five years; an 11-mile commuter rail line south from downtown to Greenwood, ready in a decade; and a 17.5-mile mile light rail ...
