Transgender women are disproportionately impacted by HIV. Transgender women involved in sex work may experience exacerbated violence, social exclusion, and HIV vulnerabilities, in comparison with non-sex work-involved transgender women. Scant research has investigated sex work among transgender women in the Caribbean, including Jamaica, where transgender women report pervasive violence. The study objective was to examine factors associated with sex work involvement among transgender women in Jamaica. ...

This is three-step study. Step 1 will screen men who have sex with men (MSM) and transgender women who are unaware of their HIV status and 1) report high risk behaviors for acquiring HIV-1 infection or 2) who have symptoms of acute retroviral syndrome or 3) who have a sexual partner with newly-diagnosed acute or recent HIV infection. HIV testing will be conducted for several thousand MSM and transgender women from study opening until July 2015. In Step 2, high risk HIV-1 uninfected MSM and transgender women with high risk for acquiring HIV will be tested at regular intervals for incident HIV-1 (using tests for HIV p24 and/or HIV RNA). (During this period, men will receive standard HIV prevention interventions.) In Step 3, individuals with acute or recent HIV-1 infection will be enrolled in a 48-week randomized, open-label study of the effects of immediate vs. deferred ART on the decay dynamics of HIV viral load in plasma, semen and rectal secretions. (ART will be provided prior to 24 weeks for ...
President Donald Trump recently announced an unofficial ban on transgender people serving in the U.S. military, describing their service as a financial burden, plagued with tremendous medical costs and disruption. Trumps announcement was followed by a debate within queer communities about what this ban means for the transgender movement as it intersects with an anti-imperialist agenda.. Despite dissenting voices, the current discourse on the Left seems to be dominated by cheerleading for the marginal victory of transgender inclusion in the military, sidelining the queer communitys historic resistance to dependence on exploitative institutions, exemplified through the Against Equality organization and The Sylviaa Rivera Project.. Let us make one thing clear: The Department of Defense (DOD) should not be celebrated as an economic provider for the marginalized. Instead, we should reimagine a more socio-economically just distribution of resources that does not depend on an institution that ...

N2 - Background: The Sabes study, a treatment as prevention intervention in Peru, tested the hypothesis that initiating antiretroviral therapy (ART) early in HIV infection when viral load is high, would markedly reduce onward HIV transmission among high-risk men who have sex with men (MSM) and transgender women (TW). We investigated the potential population-level benefits of detection of HIV early after acquisition and rapid initiation of ART. Methods: We designed a transmission dynamic model to simulate the HIV epidemic among MSM and TW in Peru, calibrated to data on HIV prevalence and ART coverage from 2004 to 2011. We assessed the impact of ...
But most of all, extensive lobbying has been the key to the success. Several LGBT organisations in Norway have been working actively on these issues for years, Part of it is the fact that the largest national LGBT organisation Fri (Free), and its youth organisation Queer Youth, has had a focus on this for a number of years now. In addition FTPN (Association for Transgender People in Norway) has of course worked extensively on the issue. On the other side of the table weve also had many allies in politics and in the state departments. The fact that two restrictions proposed for this law that aimed to put limits on legal gender recognition, proposed by the Christian Conservatives and Center Party, were stricken down 87 against 9 and 01 against 6, respectively, clearly shows how broad support this law had. But also in the Department of Health and Directorate of Health weve been received and heard on numerous occasions. Now that Im out of LGBT activism for the time being to finish my PhD abroad, ...

I come late to organizing as a transgender activist. In doing so, I?ve learned a lot. I?ve learned transgendered people truly are everywhere and not just in New York, San Francisco and Washington D.C. I?ve learned many want to quietly assimilate into the white, heterosexual, middle class status quo that is the dominant culture of our nation. I?ve learned quite a few of us have no wish or desire for such assimilation?that for some of us, our greatest desire is to shake up that dominant culture, to question gender and identity on every level?social, biological, political and personal. I?ve learned that perhaps right at this moment there is a transgendered person?most likely an MTF transsexual or crossdresser, most likely a person of color, being brutally murdered. I?ve learned people much younger than I are coming out as transgendered in ways I never believed possible when I was their age and are challenging not only the status quo, but also calling on ?old? activists like me to take another look ...
This summer, the Harry Potter Alliance is kicking off a campaign to empower transgender people, educate cisgender people on how to be effective allies, and provides resources for everyone to create safe spaces for transgender people at the individual, community, and policy level. Named Protego for the protective shield spell used in the Harry Potter series, the campaign is dedicated to equipping fans with the spells and actions to make the world better for the trans community.. The HPA is excited to launch this campaign, as transgender individuals are a vital part of the wizard activist community. Among HPA chapter organizers, 8% identify as transgender. The HPA has long served as a safe community for young people of all gender and sexual identities to take action on causes that they care about. As such, the HPA is uniquely suited to help the world learn how to be safer and more inclusive of this increasingly visible community.. The visibility of transgender people and issues has indeed ...
April 30, 2014 - TLDEF offered testimony today before the New York City Councils Committee on Immigration about the need to create a municipal identification card system so that residents who face barriers to obtaining government-issued identification can more easily acquire it. The proposed law, which would create a New York City ID, is intended to help those who lack legal immigration status, but it would also help transgender people who often have difficulties securing accurate identification cards with gender markers that match who they are. Without proper ID, transgender people face tremendous barriers to accessing employment and public sector services.. TLDEF Staff Attorney Noah Lewis testified before the Immigration Committee on City Council Bill Int 253, which would create a New York City identity card program. Lewis explained the unique obstacles transgender people currently face in getting identification cards that match who they are:. While proof of surgery has largely been removed ...

The debate over which bathroom transgender people can use has been taking over the Internet and our social conversations for weeks now, and its getting a bit ridiculous. Transgender people have always used the bathroom that they feel comfortable with, whether its the bathroom that belongs to the sex they were born with or not, and there have been no problems.. In the heat of this debate, Americans are not only divided on the issue but collectively distracted from bigger, more important issues, such as the fact that there are three nuclear disasters occurring throughout the nation that have been getting no media attention.. One major disaster that will soon come to head all started with a fire at the Bridgeton Landfill in Missouri that has been burning for five years. Despite this extremely long length of time, authorities say that this fire is nowhere close to being contained. Whats more is that St. Louis County officials have reported that they have an emergency plan in place because the ...

Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) for transgender people replaces the hormones naturally occurring in their bodies with those of the other sex. However, not all cases of hormone replacement therapy are used by transgender people. Some reasons for this include men who wish to have a hair-free body, as a result of less of the testosterone, androgen`s in their body. Hormone therapy is the use of hormones in medical treatment. Treatment with hormone antagonists may also referred to as hormonal therapy.. Its purpose is to cause the development of the secondary sex characteristics of the desired gender. Some intersex people also receive HRT, either starting in childhood to confirm the gender they were assigned, or later, if this assignment has proven to be incorrect.. Hormonal therapy is one of the major modalities of medical treatment for cancer, others being cytotoxic chemotherapy and targeted therapy (biotherapeutics). Because steroid hormones are powerful drivers of gene expression in certain ...

I was confident that being as open and honest as possible would encourage others to be the same. Lets face it -- female Daddies tend to attract some intriguing questions. I have gradually encouraged my children to call me MJ instead of Daddy, and they are slowly getting used to people referring to me as their Mom. Having two Moms in their lives makes things complicated sometimes, and causes friction between their biological mother and myself. Although I do not wish to compete for the Mom title, it is not socially acceptable for my children to have a female Dad. Keeping the kids interests at heart, it seems easier to allow people to refer to me as their mom, rather than teaching the kids to correct strangers at every turn. I am often accused of stealing the title. Without having experienced the pain of labour I am apparently unqualified to claim Mom. I believe that how we love and nurture our children is more important than a label, particularly when considering the childs comfort level in ...

Both testosterone and estrogen are needed for healthy bone and to prevent osteoporosis. Estrogen is the predominant sex hormone that slows bone loss. The hips will rotate slightly forward due to changes in the tendons so hip discomfort is not uncommon. If estrogen therapy is conducted prior to the pelvis ossification that occurs around the age of 25, the pelvic outlet and inlet open slightly. This widening will also widen the femora as they are connected to the pelvis. The pelvis will still have some masculine characteristics by default but the end result will be wider hips than a normal male and closer to a cis female ...
REPORTING FROM ENDO 2018 CHICAGO (FRONTLINE MEDICAL NEWS) - Both transgender men and transgender women had an increased risk of breast cancer compared with a male, but not a female, reference population, said Christel de Blok, MD, sharing results of a Dutch national study. The study included 3,078 transgender people (2,064 transgender women) who began hormone therapy (HT) at age 18 years or older. The mean age at which transgender women began HT was 33 years; for transgender men, the mean age was 25 years. In all, transgender women in the study had a total of 30,699 person-years of exposure to HT; for transgender men, the figure was 13,155 person-years. Overall, there were 16 observed cases of breast cancer in transgender women and four in transgender men. After gender-affirming surgery, the transgender women were followed for a median of 146 months, and experienced a median of 193 months of HT. Transgender men who had mastectomies were followed for a median 93 months, and those who had a ...
DALLAS (AP) - A transgender womans body was pulled from a Dallas lake over the weekend, the latest death of a transgender person being investigated by homicide detectives in the city, police said Monday.. Police Chief U. Renee Hall said there were obvious signs of homicidal violence in 26-year-old Chynal Lindseys death but did not elaborate or say how investigators believe she died.. A game warden pulled her body from White Rock Lake on Saturday evening. Her case is one of four open homicide investigations involving black transgender women in the North Texas city dating back to 2015, said Maj. Vincent Weddington.. We are concerned, Hall said. And we are actively and aggressively investigating this case.. Hall said detectives dont have evidence to establish a connection between Lindseys death and the killings of the other transgender women. But even before her body was found, police were investigating whether the shooting deaths of two transgender women and the nonfatal stabbing of a ...
Gender identity is a persons deeply-felt inner sense of being male, female, or something else or in-between. Gender expression refers to a persons characteristics and behaviors such as appearance, dress, mannerisms and speech patterns that can be described as masculine, feminine, or something else. Gender identity and expression are independent of sexual orientation, and transgender people may identify as heterosexual, lesbian, gay or bisexual. Laws that explicitly mention gender identity or gender identity and expression primarily protect or harm transgender people. These laws also can apply to people who are not transgender, but whose sense of gender or manner of dress does not adhere to gender stereotypes.. ...

14 of 233 transgender men (6.0%) and 34 of 326 transgender women (10%) tested during first clinic visits were chlamydia‐positive; nine transgender men (4%) and 28 transgender women (8.6%) were gonorrhoea‐positive. One of 210 tested transgender men (0.5%) and ten of 324 tested transgender women (3.1%) were diagnosed with infectious syphilis; 14 transgender men (3.5%) and 28 transgender women (5.7%) were HIV‐positive at their first visit. The only significant change in prevalence of an STI among transgender patients during the study period was the increased rate of gonorrhoea among transgender women (from 3.1% to 9.8%). Compared with cisgender gay and bisexual men, transgender men were less likely (adjusted odds ratio [aOR], 0.46; 95% CI, 0.29-0.71; P = 0.001) and transgender women as likely (aOR, 0.98; 95% CI, 0.73-1.32; P = 0.92) to be diagnosed with a bacterial STI; compared with heterosexual patients, transgender men were as likely (aOR, 0.72; 95% CI, 0.46-1.13; P = 0.16) and transgender ...
Several retrospective studies have not identified an increased risk of cancer in transgender people compared to birth-sex matched controls. However, because of the numerous barriers to care as well as to identifying transgender people in clinical databases, underscreening and underreporting are likely. In general, an organ-based approach to screening should be taken. There are no modifications to screening recommendations (or recommendations not to screen) for ovarian, uterine, or cervical cancer in transgender men. Breast cancer screening for transgender men who have not undergone mastectomy should be performed based on guidelines for non-transgender women. The role of screening for breast cancer in transgender men who have undergone mastectomy is unknown, and depends on the technique used as well as technical limitations on screening small amounts of residual breast tissue. In transgender women, breast cancer screening using guidelines for non-transgender women is recommended, with the ...
TY - JOUR. T1 - The Effect of Partner Serostatus and Relationship Duration on HIV Medication Adherence. AU - Mitzel, Luke D.. AU - Vanderdrift, Laura. AU - Ioerger, Michael. AU - Vanable, Peter A. PY - 2018/1/1. Y1 - 2018/1/1. N2 - High adherence rates to antiretroviral medications are necessary for people living with HIV/AIDS. The current study focuses on relationship-level predictors of HIV medication adherence by testing whether adherence rates differ by dyadic serostatus (seroconcordant vs. serodiscordant couples) among individuals with HIV in romantic relationships. Results showed a significant interaction between dyadic serostatus and relationship duration on adherence, such that individuals in long-term serodiscordant relationships reported better adherence than short-term serodiscordant relationships or seroconcordant partners in long-term relationships. Future research is needed to understand what relationship dynamics explain differences in adherence rates based on dyadic ...
Estimates varied dramatically by location and subpopulation. Transfeminine individuals have some of the highest concentrated HIV epidemics in the world with laboratory-confirmed prevalence up to 40%. Data were sparse among trans masculine individuals; however, they suggest potential increased risk for trans masculine men who have sex with men (MSM). No prevalence data were available for transgender people across Sub-Saharan Africa or Eastern Europe/Central Asia. Emerging data consistently support the association of syndemic conditions with HIV risk in transgender populations.. DISCUSSION ...
Today in schools especially public schools there is no mention or no talk about being transgender. It is not even in the school curriculum. This makes it really unfair for transgender people to learn about themselves especially during health class. Do to this not learning about being transgender this leads to discrimination when it comes to sports and or the bathroom. If we had better education system where we could teach younger kids what it means to be transgender then people would grow up to be a better in society. This will also educate the teachers and make a better school environment for the transgender kids. Ultimately our goal is to build a better school system where everybody can get the information they so desire weather it is in lgbtq student or a regular cis student. Today a handful of colleges are starting to acknowledge transgender people but why not kindergarten through 12th grade? Its up to us to make the change. Please sign our petition to change the way schools treat ...
Our findings show that FSWs who reported high collectivisation are significantly more likely than those who reported low levels of collectivisation to access STI treatment from government health facilities. These associations are not just a consequence of the presence of partnerships with government facilities for STI treatment, or of socio-demographic vulnerabilities, as the data suggest that FSWs from areas without partnerships with government health facilities also reported high attendance in government centres for STI treatment. Research is needed to explore why STI service utilisation from government health facilities is higher among FSWs who report or perceive higher levels of collectivisation than others. Previous evidence that a high degree of collectivisation and collective identity among FSWs lead to increased condom use and HIV risk reduction12 ,13 ,15 ,22-24 ,26 may be interpreted to suggest that FSWs have the ability and confidence to exercise their rights as citizens within the ...

Results: The rates of depressive symptoms (51.4% for transgender women; 48.3% for transgender men) and anxiety (40.4% for transgender women; 47.5% for transgender men) within the current study far surpass the rates of those for the general population. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was used to analyze the data-2 separate models were hypothesized, based on reports of anxiety or depression. The SEM results suggest that the processes for transgender women and transgender men are primarily similar for depression and anxiety; avoidant coping served as a ...
Normally a solemn occasion to memorialize individuals killed because of anti-transgender hatred or prejudice, this year the National Transgender Day of Remembrance assumed an unusually acrimonious air on Nov 20. That day, transgender advocates and their allies in leading gay rights organizations protested the exclusion of gender identity protections from the Employee Non-Discrimination passed by the U.S. House of Representatives earlier in the month. Many directed anger at the Human Rights Campaign, the paramount LGBT rights organization, for its refusal to oppose the stripped down version of ENDA. Congressional leaders like openly gay Representative Barney Frank (D-MA) had argued that the removal of transgender protections was necessary in order to secure the votes of more cautious colleagues.. In New York City, some 25 people gathered outside the historic Stonewall Inn on Christopher Street, where in 1969 a transgender individual threw the first punch that helped to launch gay liberation. ...
Transgender persons are at high risk for HIV infection, but prevention efforts specifically targeting these people have been minimal. Part of the challenge of HIV prevention for transgender populations is that numerous individual, interpersonal, social, and structural factors contribute to their risk. By combining HIV prevention services with complementary medical, legal, and psychosocial services, transgender persons HIV risk behaviors, risk determinants, and overall health can be affected simultaneously. For maximum health impact, comprehensive HIV prevention for transgender persons warrants efforts targeted to various impact levels-socioeconomic factors, decision-making contexts, long-lasting protections, clinical interventions, and counseling and education. We present current HIV prevention efforts that reach transgender persons and present others for future consideration ...
The National Transgender Discrimination Survey, the largest study of transgender peoples experiences, found that 41 percent of transgender and gender non-conforming people have attempted suicide, a rate far higher than the national average of 4.6 percent. Now, an in-depth study of that result reveals how various aspects of anti-trans discrimination and stigma might be contributing to that high rate.. Heres a look at some of the studys results about what stressors may be putting transgender people at greater risk for suicide attempts:. ...
Executive Summary. Over the past 20 years, a growing body of research has focused on suicidality among transgender individuals, including prevalence estimates and risk factors associated with suicide thoughts and attempts. Studies of the transgender population demonstrate that the prevalence of suicide thoughts and attempts among transgender adults is significantly higher than that of the U.S. general population. For example, transgender adults have a prevalence of past-year suicide ideation that is nearly twelve times higher, and a prevalence of past-year suicide attempts that is about eighteen times higher, than the U.S. general population. The 2015 U.S. Transgender Survey (USTS), which is the largest survey of transgender people in the U.S. to date, found that 81.7 percent of respondents reported ever seriously thinking about suicide in their lifetimes, while 48.3 percent had done so in the past year. In regard to suicide attempts, 40.4 percent reported attempting suicide at some point in ...

For the white demographics, transgender women made up 76 percent of new diagnoses compared to transgender men at 24 percent.. In terms of region, the number of diagnoses of HIV infection among transgender adults and adolescents in the Northeast and West increased, but they remained stable in the Midwest and South.. Carl Schmid, executive director of the HIV + Hepatitis Policy Institute, told the Blade hes pleased that the CDC is finally recognizing the transgender community, instead of lumping them in as either male or female, when reporting HIV data.. It is something that the HIV and transgender communities have been asking for decades, Schmid said. ...
When Catherine Lee used to take her young child to the grocery store, other shoppers would often comment, Oh, what a nice son you have, helping you pack the groceries. Lee, a 46-year-old therapist from Manteca (San Joaquin County), is part of a growing group of parents navigating - sometimes at crash-course speed - the complexities of raising a transgender child. More transgender people are coming out as children, a sea change that doctors and therapists say could be caused by increasing awareness among parents and advancements in medical options for transgender children. [...] as their ranks grow, so does the push for laws such as AB1266, signed last week by Gov. Jerry Brown, to allow transgender youth to use school sites and join groups associated with their gender identity. Parental concernsThe new law has drawn ire from parents worried that it could be abused by students who pretend to be transgender in order to catch a peep at the opposite gender in restrooms or open showers. Abstract Publications on diagnosed HIV infection among transgender people have been limited to state- or local-level data. We analyzed data from the National HIV Surveillance System and present results from the first national-level analysis of transgender people with diagnosed HIV infection. From 2009 to 2014, HIV surveillance jurisdictions from 45 states plus the District of Columbia identified and reported at least one case of newly diagnosed HIV infection for transgender p
The 2015 U.S. Transgender Survey is the largest survey examining the experiences of transgender people in the United States. The findings reveal disturbing patterns of mistreatment, violence, and discrimination and startling disparities between transgender people in the survey and the U.S. population when it comes to the most basic elements of life, such as finding a job, having a place to live, accessing medical care, and enjoying the support of family and community ...

Ms. Khartini Slamah, Founding Working Group member and Core-Group Chair of the Transgender Programme in Pink Triangle (PT) Foundation, Malaysia, says this represents a milestone in the history of transgender women in the region. She says, For a long time transgender women have been represented among the MSM (men who have sex with men) sub-population group, but there is now a recognition that we are a distinct demographic with our own unique needs. We wish to be separated from the MSM umbrella and inform The United Nations Joint Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) to stop clustering us under the MSM umbrella. Transgender women are not men - we have different issues and needs. Thus we have formed a network addressing the needs of transgender women only ...

The purpose of this study is to test the efficacy of a uniquely targeted HIV risk reduction intervention for young transgender women (YTW), ages 16 to 29, at risk for HIV acquisition or transmission. The study will test this intervention in a three-arm randomized controlled trial in two major U.S. cities with excellent access to and research experience with the population (Chicago, Boston). We will enroll at risk YTW, ages 16-29; two-fifths of the sample randomized to the intervention will participate in the 6-session group-based and manualized Life Skills intervention; two-fifths will be randomized to the standard-of-care (SOC) control condition; and one-fifth will be randomized to the time-matched attention control condition and receive standard health promotion information in a group-based multi-session format. All three arms will receive HIV and sexually transmitted infection (STI) (Chlamydia and gonorrhea) testing and pre-posttest risk reduction counseling (i.e., SOC). Sexual risk will be ...
The Williams Institute, June 2016: Population-based surveys, meaning those that are designed to allow researchers to generalize findings to the population, rarely ask questions to identify transgender people and, therefore, cannot be used to provide estimates of the size and characteristics of the transgender population. The federal government administers several large, national population-based surveys like the American Community Survey and the National Health Interview Survey that track the demographics, health and well-being of U.S. residents. Unfortunately, these surveys do not currently measure gender identity. However, there are several state-level population-based surveys that identify transgender respondents and can be used to estimate the size and characteristics of the transgender population. In 2011, Gary J. Gates utilized two state-level population-based surveys that collected data from 2003 in California and from 2007 and 2009 in Massachusetts to estimate that 0.3% of the U.S. ...

Our study is the first to assess trends in transgender presentation to an endocrine service in New Zealand, and thus contributes new data to the international discussion. Our results demonstrate increase in the number of people identifying as transgender presenting to services for treatment, particularly among the young adult age-group, as well an increasing proportion of FtM persons. The increasing numbers of transgender and non-binary young people has significant implications for health-providers involved with the care of these individuals, particularly with regard to expertise, experience and access to training, for this age group.19. An increasing rate of presentation at younger ages and a change in the proportion of people presenting as MtF and FtM has been recognised in major centres overseas.20,21 Leinung et al reviewed their experience in New York with 140 transgender people, finding a stepwise increase in referrals over the three five-year intervals with an increase in FtM proportion. ...
In January 2019, Japans Supreme Court, ruling on the case of a 43-year-old transgender man who did not want to be sterilized, upheld a lower court ruling that the sterilization requirement did not violate Japans constitution. However, the four-judge bench noted that it cannot be denied that there is an aspect in which freedom from invasion of the physical body is restricted.. Two of the justices recognized the urgency of the situation, and the need to reform the law. The suffering that [transgender people] face in terms of gender is also of concern to society that is supposed to embrace diversity in gender identity, the two justices wrote in their concurring opinion. They concluded that for transgender people, being able to receive rulings of changes in recognition of gender status…is an important, perhaps even urgent, legal benefit.. Japans national government has, in recent years, taken several positive steps toward recognizing and protecting lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender ...

Why it matters: The study is the first of its kind, and could help shape future legislation regarding protections for transgender individuals. Show less Key…
For purposes of this post the omission of same gender loving women in large part is not intentional or meant to exclude them but as there are hardly any documented records of such instances but more so on the side of MSM in my archives, men who have sex with men in the broader context. Exploitative same sex relational matters do often result in some injury from an unconfirmed standpoint when the grapevine system gets wind of them but when jealousy is the reason those conflicts tend not to often lead to a murder, it seems that there has been a preoccupation with more powerful or middle class victims whose cases are used to legitimize homophobia as if only such persons suffer same. A discussion of sorts has carried on in response to a Gleaner letter some days ago where the writer implored LGBT persons to report incidents to predominantly JFLAG while trying to differentiate intimate partner violence from genuine homophobic cases. ...
The number of trans people is difficult to ascertain, but one estimate suggests that about 700,000 Americans are transgender. Insisting on a strict genitially-based sex (ignoring gender identity and the range of gender expression) in human beings reduces transgender people to invisibility and contributes to their abuse. Theological reflection on transgender peoples experience is in its infancy; until recently, trans people have been subsumed into the LGBTQ... litany, though the actual issues that face trans people are clearly different than those of lesbian, gay and bisexual people.. Queer is an umbrella term for members of sexual minorities, including both people who are not heterosexual and people who are not cisgender. It is now generally taken as a term of pride rather than opprobrium.. Definitions in hand, lets return to Benedict and Francis fears:. 1. How shall we think about the relationship of sex and gender? Some insist that biological sex determines gender nearly entirely. John Paul ...
Even if Transgender themselves, a person who oppresses Trans people should not in my eyes be called a trans activist but a TERF or anti-trans activist.

MONDAY, Jan. 18, 2021 (HealthDay News) -- Most transgender women can safely continue their estrogen treatments during gender-affirming surgery, a new study finds.. Estrogen therapy and surgery can increase the risk of blood clots, so experts have suggested that transgender women stop taking the hormone when having gender-affirming surgery.. But the sudden loss of estrogen was sometimes very uncomfortable, causing symptoms similar to sudden, severe menopause.. Now researchers at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City have found that withholding estrogen before gender-affirming surgery is not necessary.. For the study, the investigators looked at more than 900 transgender patients who had gender-affirming surgery between November 2015 and August 2019. Participants included 407 transgender women who had surgery to create a vagina.. The researchers found no difference in blood clots when estrogen hormone therapy was maintained during surgery.. Because of aggressive blood clot ...

Kollar-Kotelly said a group of transgender military members are likely to win their suit against the Trump administration, and lifted part of the ban pending the results of the case.. On the record before the court, there is absolutely no support for the claim that the ongoing service of transgender people would have any negative effective on the military at all, she wrote in the ruling. In fact, there is considerable evidence that it is the discharge and banning of such individuals that would have such effects.. On Aug. 25, Trump signed a memorandum saying the department may not recruit people who identify as transgender and may not use federal funds to provide medical treatment, including sex-reassignment surgeries and medications.. Mondays ruling left the ban on medical treatments in place. ...
