Trail Making Test and Visuomotor Abilities scheduled on March 12-13, 2020 in March 2020 in Miami is for the researchers, scientists, scholars, engineers, academic, scientific and university practitioners to present research activities that might want to attend events, meetings, seminars, congresses, workshops, summit, and symposiums.
We have reported a blood flow increase in the prefrontal cortex during the performance of the computer version TMT. Although TMT-A was first performed and followed by TMT-B in the previous study, the order was reversed in the present study,i.e., TMT-B was first performed and then followed by TMT-A, and differences in the change of blood flow were compared between the two modes of TMT.. Nine healthy student volunteers (20.7 ± 1.6 yr) performed two different sets of TMT-B. After a resting period of 30 sec, they performed four different sets of TMT-A. Changes of oxyHb and deoxyHb were monitored by 22-channel NIRS from 30 sec before the start of TMT-B through 30 sec after the end of TMT-A. The mean changes of blood flow over a period of 10 sec just before the start of TMT-B and TMT-A, and over a period of 100 sec after the start of TMT-B and TMT-A were determined.. The increase of oxyHb was prominent in the right lateral prefrontal cortex.. The results suggest that the blood flow increases in the ...
Executive function will be measured using the Trail Making Test (TMT) and the Color-Word Matching Stroop task. The TMT consists of two parts (TMT-A and TMT-B): TMT-A requires individuals to sequentially connect 25 encircled numbers on a sheet of paper, while TMT-B requires participants to draw a line alternating between numbers and letters, both of which must be connected in ascending order.51 TMT-A places few cognitive demands on participants and primarily captures processing speed; while TMT-B requires more complex attention shifting, planning and concentration, and the Trails B/A ratio is taken as a valid index of executive function.52 The Color-Word Matching Stroop task (cwmStroop) also assesses executive function. Two rows of letters appear on the screen, and subjects are requested to press a button, either A (Yes response) or L (No response) on the keyboard, as quickly as possible to decide whether the colour name of the top row letters corresponds to the colour name written in black ink ...
Trail Making Test (TMT) part A and B: evaluation of executive functions. This test assesses mental flexibility and visual exploration capabilities. It is divided into two parts. In Part A, the patient must link the figures in ascending order as quickly as possible. In Part B, the patient must link the numbers and letters in ascending order by following an alternating rule. The time (in seconds) put by the participant to take part A and B and the number of errors will be recorded. For Part B, the examiner also records the number of perseveration errors, that is, when the participant did not follow the alternation rule. Finally, the examiner makes a calculation (time taken for Part A subtracted from the time taken for Part B) to tell whether the participant has a mental flexibility disorder.. The oral version of this test (Oral Trail Making Test, TMT) will be used for patients over 65 years old with cognitive impairment prior to the depressive episode. ...
To identify common variants contributing to normal variation in two specific domains of cognitive functioning, we conducted a genome-wide association study (GWAS) of executive functioning and information processing speed in non-demented older adults from the CHARGE (Cohorts for Heart and Aging Research in Genomic Epidemiology) consortium. Neuropsychological testing was available for 5429-32,070 subjects of European ancestry aged 45 years or older, free of dementia and clinical stroke at the time of cognitive testing from 20 cohorts in the discovery phase. We analyzed performance on the Trail Making Test parts A and B, the Letter Digit Substitution Test (LDST), the Digit Symbol Substitution Task (DSST), semantic and phonemic fluency tests, and the Stroop Color and Word Test. Replication was sought in 1311-21860 subjects from 20 independent cohorts. A significant association was observed in the discovery cohorts for the single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) rs17518584 (discovery P-value=3.12 × ...
Results Patients with NPSLE were more depressed and were more frequently impaired in cognitive and olfactory functions than controls or non-NPSLE patients. The NPSLE group remained statistically different from the other 2 groups on a series of neuropsychological measures (the Auditory Verbal Learning Test, Trail Making Test - Part A, Nine-Hole Peg Test, and Brief Smell Identification Test) even after control for elevated anxiety and depressed mood. Non-NPSLE and control groups were not significantly different regarding either psychopathological symptoms or neuropsychological functioning. ...

OBJECTIVE: The Executive Function Performance Test (EFPT) is a reliable and valid performance-based tool to assess executive functions (EFs). This studys objective was to develop and verify two Internet-based tasks for the EFPT. METHOD: A cross-sectional study assessed the alternate-form reliability of the Internet-based bill-paying and telephone-use tasks in healthy adults and people with subacute stroke (Study 1). It also sought to establish the tasks criterion reliability for assessing EF deficits by correlating performance with that on the Trail Making Test in five groups: healthy young adults, healthy older adults, people with subacute stroke, people with chronic stroke, and young adults with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (Study 2 ...

__Background.__   The impact of treatment for head and neck cancer (HNC) on speech and cognitive functioning is well studied. Moreover, recent research has identified speech and cognitive deficits in HNC patients already prior to treatment, but this baseline cognitive impairment is poorly understood. Importantly, chronic alcohol intake and tobacco use, well-known risk factors for HNC, may also have detrimental effects on cognitive function.|br||br| __Methods.__   We analysed objective cognitive scores and patient-reported speech and cognitive complaints of 580 HNC patients from the prospective NET-QUBIC cohort with respect to tumour location, and self-reported alcohol and tobacco use. Objective measures included verbal fluency, delayed recall of a verbal learning task, and psychomotor speed and executive functioning from the Trail Making Test. Patient-reported outcomes comprised the Speech Handicap Index and Cognitive Failures questionnaires.|br||br| __Results.__   Moderate to severe

Its a great thing, but at the same time Im worried because it seems to reinforce the misconception that genes are traits. We need to change the publics mentality on this, and making tests readily available to the public reinforces the misconception, IMO. It could also lead to various false positives (or false negatives, for that matter) because we dont know all that we could possibly know about gene-to-gene interactions and epistasis.. ...

The difference between performances on the individual neuropsychological tests for patients on either side of the cut-point for each of the biomarkers is shown as Cohens d effect size in figure 1. At 3 months postoperatively, low CSF Aβ1-42 demonstrated medium to large effects for the CERAD Auditory Verbal Learning Test (the domain of memory), CERAD Semantic fluency (attention), and Grooved Pegboard Test dominant (primarily the psychomotor domain). High baseline CSF P-tau was associated with medium to large effect sizes on Trail Making Test part A (executive function), CERAD Auditory Verbal Learning Test (memory), and Controlled Oral Word Association Test (primarily the domain of attention) at 3 months postoperatively. At 12 months postoperatively, low baseline CSF Aβ1-42 was associated with large effect sizes for Trail Making Test parts B (executive function) and Controlled Oral Word Association Test (attention). High baseline CSF P-tau was associated with medium to large effect sizes for ...
Introduction: Semi-automatic neuropsychological testing has gained a position both in clinical use and in research. Comparison studies with traditional neuropsychological tests are sparse and the role of such semi-automated testing is debated. To integrate semi-automated neuropsychological testing in the established clinical setting the tests must be validated in the patient groups addressed. The aim of this study was to validate Cambridge Neuropsychological Tests Automated Battery (CANTAB) in patients with epilepsy. Material and Methods: Patients scheduled for traditional neuropsychological testing with Category test (CT), Trail Making Test part B (TMT-B), WAIS-III and WMS-R were also asked to complete the CANTAB battery. Our hypothesis was that memory tests from CANTAB (DMS, PAL) would correlate with visual memory tests from WMS-R and that a test of executive functions from CANTAB (SOC) would correlate with functions tested with TMT-B, CT and WAIS-III. Results: Scores from DMS correlated strongly with
Twenty-nine pediatric patients (age range, 10-16 years) with working memory (WM) deficits, including children with pediatric bipolar disorder (PBD) with and without attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) comorbidity and children with ADHD, underwent a Cogmed WM training program. For both patient groups, WM performance on Cogmed tasks and on the Digit Span test improved significantly after training. Moreover, the PBD group improved on Trails Making Test A and on the Inhibition Scale, the Behavior Regulation Index, and the Global Executive Composite of the Behavioral Rating Inventory of Executive Function. The ADHD group improved significantly on the Trails Making Test B, the Spatial Span Test, and the Reading Fluency Test of the Woodcock-Johnson III, as well as on depressive symptoms. The present findings suggest that working memory training is beneficial not only in youths with ADHD but also in youths with PBD. They also show evidence of near and far transfer of WM improvement in these patients
Physical activity (PA) has been hypothesized to be effective to maintaining cognitive function and delay cognitive decline in the elderly, but physical fitness (PF) could be a better predictor of cognitive function. We aimed to study the association between PA and PF with cognitive function and quality of life using cross-sectional data from 6874 participants of the PREDIMED-Plus trial (64.9 ± 4.9 years, 48.5% female). PF and PA were measured with a Chair Stand Test, the REGICOR and Rapid Assessment Physical Activity questionnaires. Cognitive function was measured with Mini-mental State Examination, Control Oral Word Association Test, Trail Making Test and Digit Span tests; whereas health-related quality of life was assessed with the SF36-HRQL test. Cognitive and quality of life scores were compared among PF quartiles and PA levels (low, moderate and high) with ANCOVA and with Chair Stand repetitions and energy expenditure from total PA with multivariable linear regression adjusted for ...
At baseline, each participants scores for standardized/widely-used NCF exams are recorded (recalled words/objects/sequence repetition/etc per tests listed below). After 8 weeks liothyronine therapy, participants are tested again and scores compared to baseline scores. If the participant recalls more numbers/objects/sequence repetition faster/etc., than previous scores, this constitutes an improvement in NCF function for that individual. Scores are not compared to other participants. NCF tests: Memory by RAVLT (Rey Auditory Verbal Learning Test), scored by the number of words correctly recalled at different timepoints; Attention by Digit Span Exam (accurately repeating a sequence of numbers just spoken); Processing speed by Digit Symbol Exam (accurately matching numbers with associated symbols) Executive function by Trail Making Tests and Controlled Oral Word Association; Motor dexterity evaluated by correctly placing pegs in pegboards in a specified time ...
Previous studies have shown that adverse conditions during fetal and early life are associated with lower performance on neurocognitive tests in childhood, adolescence and adult life. There is, however, a paucity in studies investigating these associations into old age. TY - CONF. T1 - Multimodal imaging, non-stationarity and BCI. AU - Müller, Klaus Robert. PY - 2014. Y1 - 2014. N2 - Learning to build universal decoders for BCI is a great challenge (see [9], [2], [8] for recent reviews on Machine Learning for BCI). Usually in multimodal imaging we consider the modes to be different types of imaging devices such as EEG, NIRS or fMRI (see e.g. [1], [7], [3], [4]). However, we can also interpret different subjects as imaging modalities to gain a zero training decoder (cf. [5], [6]) from a data base of subjects. Even the same subject data from several experiments can be seen as instantiation of multiple modes. This change of view allows to proceed in various research directions (e.g. [3], [4],[10], [11],[12]). The talk will expand on recent multimodal analysis techniques such as SPoC ([3], [4]). Furthermore we will discuss nonstationarities (cf. [13], [10]) that often occur in neuroscience, e.g. between a subjects training and testing session in braincomputer ...
Rabbit Polyclonal to STK10 effect size,30 which quantifies the magnitude of effect in terms of baseline variation of the specific study population. Meaningful cognitive decline was defined as an increase of 32 seconds or longer (0.5 baseline TMT-B score SD of 64 seconds, corresponding to a moderate effect size31C34), either from one time point to the next (e.g., 100 seconds at baseline to 132 seconds at 3 months) or additively over consecutive time points (e.g., 100 seconds at baseline to 120 seconds at 3 months to 132 seconds at 6 months). Among patients without decline, we defined cognitive improvement as a 32 second decrease (shorter time) in TMT-B score between baseline and last follow-up scores. Statistical Analysis Baseline characteristics were compared Punicalin manufacture between patients with cognitive decline vs. no cognitive decline using chi-squared tests for categorical variables and based on literature review and clinical judgment and included age, body mass index, sex, device ...

From chemical fibers to bricks - before a material comes onto the market, it must be safe. Modern materials testing allows an exact assessment of what loads a certain material will withstand, when it will start to become deformed, and what forces have to act for how long before it is damaged or destroyed. Even the smallest differences can be analyzed and problems with further processing can be precluded. A constant atmosphere in the room with a constant temperature and humidity is a prerequisite to making test results reproducible and above all valid, along with the use of highly sensitive measuring equipment. This is the only way to obtain meaningful and valid measuring results and determine information about the safety and quality of the material in question beyond any doubt.

Conclusions: Relationships between depression, OGM and EF in an older adult population were found. There is partial support for the EF hypothesis of OGM in older adults, as shifting ability was found to account for the relationship between depression and OGM. Findings indicate that inhibition may be a key element in explaining this relationship, although further research is needed to clarify this using larger sample sizes. Further research should aim to address certain methodological limitations of this study, such as larger sample sizes and using multiple neuropsychological tests per executive functioning ability. ...
Research has shown that mixed dementia is more common than previously believed but little is known of its early stages. To examine if incipient mixed dementia can be differentiated from incipient Alzheimers disease (AD) and subcortical ischemic vascular dementia (SVD) using neuropsychological tests, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) markers, and magnetic resonance imaging markers. We included 493 patients and controls from the Gothenburg MCI study and used the dementia groups for marker selection (CSF total-tau (T-tau), phospho-tau (P-tau), and amyloid-β42 (Aβ42), 11 neuropsychological tests, and 92 regional brain volumes) and to obtain cut-off values which were then applied to the MCI groups.Incipient mixed dementia was best differentiated from incipient AD by the Word fluency F-A-S test and the Trail making test A. CSF T-tau, P-tau, and Aβ42 differentiated incipient mixed dementia from incipient SVD.Incipient mixed dementia is characterized by an AD-like biomarker profile and an SVD-like cognitive ...

Many training programs have been designed using modern software to restore the impaired cognitive functions in patients with acquired brain damage (ABD). The objective of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of a computer-based training program of attention and memory in patients with ABD, using a two-armed parallel group design, where the experimental group (n = 50) received cognitive stimulation using RehaCom software, and the control group (n = 30) received the standard cognitive stimulation (non-computerized) for eight weeks. In order to assess the possible cognitive changes after the treatment, a post-pre experimental design was employed using the following neuropsychological tests: Wechsler Memory Scale (WMS) and Trail Making test A and B. The effectiveness of the training procedure was statistically significant (p < 0.05) when it established the comparison between the performance in these scales, before and after the training period, in each patient and between the two groups. Comprehensive Chromosomal Screnning: More comprehensive, reliable and effective genetic diagnosis with analysis of all chromosomes in the embryo using CGH technique. With preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) method, it is possible to determine certain diseases before transfer by making tests on chromosome or gene level on embryo in accordance with medical need.. In order to apply PGT, it is necessary to take one or more cells from a developing embryo and to examine these cells with suitable genetic methods. Until recently, the 3rd day of embryo development, namely the stage in which the embryo has 6-8 cells was preferred for the embryo biopsy process. The cells taken used to be examined only in terms of certain chromosome or gene regions, and embryos that were determined to be healthy were immediately transferred to the uterus.. With the comprehensive chromosomal screening approach, now the embryo biopsy process is performed on the 5th or 6th day of embryo development and it is possible to ...
