A longitudinal outcome study was undertaken to identify variables that significantly influenced tooth survival and pulpal and periodontal outcomes of intruded permanent maxillary incisors of children and adolescents. Al1 cases were treated between June 1988 and June 1998 at The Hospital for Sick Children. Clinical and radiographie data were collected for 26 patients (19 males, 7 fernales) and 31 permanent maxillary incisors. Mean age at the time of injury was 9.3 years (range 5.5-17.8 years). Al1 pulpal and periodontd outcomes were observed at follow-up. Survival anaiysis was used to identiS, variables significantly related to the survival and pulpal necrosis for these incisors. Proportional hazards regression yielded significant prognostic models for survival and the diagnosis of pulpal necrosis (pX0.05 and pC0.02 respectively). lncisors intnided >6mm had a significantly decreased survival compared with incisors intmded ...

Radiographs. Intraoral periapicals (Fig. 31.1) or an anterior occlusal view are needed to diagnose root fractures compared to luxation injuries. The upper lateral incisors should also be checked for injury. Consideration should also be given to taking radiographs of the lower incisors, which may also have received either direct or indirect trauma. Where there is no significant displacement of the coronal portion of a tooth with a root fracture, then an anterior occlusal radiograph will often detect root fractures that may not be so evident on periapical views. These radiographs will serve as baseline views prior to repositioning.. Vitality tests of all upper and lower incisors.. ...

Slowing down is normal, but certain behaviors indicate other issues. Aging does bring physical and mental changes but nobody dies of old age. They die of age related diseases. Diseases can be (sometimes) cured, (often) controlled and (always) managed. Some body parts simply wear out, like their teeth. Left un-addressed, bad teeth can kill, either thorough direct infection or infection that spreads to the bones or further, by malnutrition or even starvation. As the senses become weakened their behavior will show changes. They will not be willing to compete for food. As the sense of smell declines they will push food around and seem very picky. With declining sight, they will shy from objects that are not threatening. They will refuse to walk up and down stairs or ramps that they have used for years. They will touch their dish of food and jerk back like it was hot or something hurt them. All these are signals of failing senses. But sometimes these are also signs of particular illnesses. ...

You, your family veterinarian, and Dr Jha (Board Certified Surgeon) will use several diagnostic tools to confirm a patella luxation in your pet friend. You may notice lameness mainly with a skipping gait in your dog and your dog lifting the affected leg intermittently. Your primary care veterinarian will detect pain and a dislocated patella on physical exam. We complete the diagnostic process by performing a thorough orthopedic and neurological examination, follow up x-rays under sedation or general anesthesia. In many dogs we recommend a CT scan to diagnose the complex causes of patella luxation and plan for surgical correction. An experienced surgeon can palpate the knee joint with patella luxation and generally be able to tell the grade of luxation and recommend the level of treatment needed. Patella luxation is divided into grades I,II, III, and IV. Grade III and IV generally need a surgical correction and in some instances a patella luxation of grade II can also benefit from surgical ...
Chapter 11. Trauma and Loss of One or More Maxillary Permanent Incisors 11.1 Introduction Loss of one or more maxillary permanent incisors directly or indirectly as the result of trauma is a shocking experience for the patient and patients family. It often requires dental first aid and subsequent dental intervention. Questions as to what future treatment will be required soon arise.. The long-term planning and related treatment usually are better placed in the hands of an orthodontist than a general dental practitioner. The latter does, of course, need the knowledge to collaborate intelligently in the long-term planning and to contribute his or her wider knowledge of the patient and patients family circumstances.. In this chapter consideration will be given successively to replantation, loss of a tooth either directly after trauma or at a later time, variations in loss, the time when trauma occurred, setting up of a treatment plan, particularly in regard to the dental arch relationships, ...
Childrens permanent teeth normally erupt over several years after first forming below the gum line. All their permanent teeth should come in by the time they reach early adolescence.. Unfortunately, this process doesnt always happen as it should. If the erupting teeth become crowded due to a poor bite (malocclusion), teeth still to come in may not have enough room to fully erupt. They become impacted, a condition in which the visible crown remains partially or completely submerged below the gum line.. Impacted teeth create consequences for other teeth and dental health overall. They more readily cause abscesses (a localized infection within the gum tissue) and can damage the roots of nearby teeth. Impacted front canine (eye) teeth can interfere with bite function and their visual absence mars an otherwise attractive smile.. If your childs canine teeth have failed to erupt properly, there is a way to help them fully come in if you act before their mouth structure fully matures. The first step ...

http://www.identalhub.com/articlecategory-gum-surgeries-80.aspxWhether the loose tooth can be saved or not depends upon the cause and the amount of mobility. If the tooth is loose because of trauma then by splinting it can be saved. If it is because of infection due to decay then doing root canal treatment treats it. If it is because of gum disease then it depends upon the amount of bone loss. .If the bone loss is not much and the dentist thinks that the tooth can be saved then gum surgery aand bone grafting can save it. So visit your dentist who will do the clinical exaination and take the X-rays to find out the cause of mobility and accordingly treatment will be planned. If the tooth can not be saved then it has to be pulled out and if possible implant is done. Primary (baby) teeth that are prematurely lost due to decay or injury sometimes necessitate the use of a spacer to keep the surrounding teeth growing straight until the permanent tooth erupts to replace the missing tooth. If missing permanent teeth are not replaced with implants, a bridge, or a partial denture, the adjacent teeth can tip into the empty space and the opposing teeth can super-erupt meaning they grow longer than is natural.. ...

A nondestructive method of and apparatus for optically detecting the presence of and inferentially determining the relative degree of anomalous subsurface structure in translucent articles: for instance, such anomalous subsurface structural phenomena as pre-carious lesions in in vivo teeth. Moreover, dynamic changes in the degree of such anomalous subsurface structure can be identified and relatively quantified. Thus, for instance, progressive subsurface deterioration of teeth can be monitored, and the efficacy of products directed towards arresting or reversing the development of pre-carious lesions in teeth can be evaluated through the use of the present invention. The method and apparatus of the present invention provide for illuminating a surface area of a translucent article with incident light, and detecting whether a sufficient portion of the light is internally diverted by being refracted or diffusely reflected or the like by the internal structure of the article to indicate whether the

The patella is the kneecap, and it normally rests inside a groove within the thigh bone, or femur, inside the knee. Patella luxation is a condition where the kneecap is dislocated and moves away from the femoral groove when the knee is flexed. - Wag!
All MPL patients will need to spend a minimum of 1-2 days in the hospital following the procedure. This is so pain and discomfort can be controlled using injectable and transdermal medications, as well as to restrict and monitor movement by the patient during this most critical period of recovery.. Once home, owners should do everything possible to limit their dogs activity, as strict rest is required for proper healing. Initially, there should be no running, jumping or playing, as these can all lead to reluxation of the patella during the healing process. Although rare, reluxation does occur, and often requires further surgery. This is of most concern during the first 8 weeks of recovery, or in patients who suffered from a severe-grade luxation prior to surgery. Any pins used during surgery may need to be removed in 3-12 months. Rarely, a patient will present post-surgically with an allergic reaction to the metal from any screws, plates, pins or wire used in the procedure.. Activity should ...
Barry Fisher Let me extend this thread from acne to teeth. Ive only run three 100-milers, but after each one, Ive noticed that brushing my teeth can be painful - this usually lasts for about 2-3 weeks, and gets less painful as time goes on. Its not the whole mouth, just certain parts of the gums and teeth. I dont get this on 50 milers or 100K runs. My readings on two of the WS 100 milers, where they measured our readings on CPK, etc., were low in relation to the average finisher (according to Bob Lind). I dont have any other adverse side-effects; and muscle soreness, etc. goes away quickly for me. And no, I dont get any acne outbreaks. And I dont get this teeth / gum sensitivity at any other time. I have regular checkups and my teeth are in fairly good shape. When asked, my dentist just rubs his hands gleefully and tries to sell me some product or another (sometimes successfully). Has anyone else out there had the same experience? And does anyone have a rational (or otherwise) explanation ...
