Titanium oxide catalysts are some of the most promising photocatalyst candidates for renewable energy storage applications via production of solar fuels. To contribute to a molecular-level understanding of the interaction of CO$_{2}$ with titanium oxide, we turn to cluster models in order to circumvent the challenges posed by speciation in the condensed phase. In this work, we use infrared photodissociation spectroscopy ($950-2400$ cm$^{-1}$) in concert with density functional theory calculations to identify and characterize $[text{TiO}_{x}(text{CO}_{2})_{y}]^{-}$ ($x$ = $1-3$, $y$ = $3-7$) clusters. We use these model systems to study the interaction of CO$_{2}$ with TiO, TiO$_{2}$, and TiO$_{3}$, and we find that each species exhibits unique infrared signatures and binding motifs. Segmental mandibulectomy is a treatment option for benign and malignant neoplasms of the mandible. Although reconstructing the mandible of a patient with a missing segment is difficult, it is essential to improve the postoperative course of the patient. Mandibular reconstruction using titanium mesh is a useful technique for dental implant placement because the morphology of the mandible can be easily reproduced. However, fitting titanium mesh to the remaining mandible is not an easy task during surgery. The present report introduces a method in which a 3-dimensional skull model fabricated by means of stereolithography is prepared, based on computerized tomography (CT) scans, to construct a titanium mesh cage matching the shape of the mandible, preoperatively. The aggregation behavior of TiO2 nanoparticles under conditions normally encountered in natural waters was investigated. Aggregation kinetics and size distribution was determined by DLS using a Nanosizer ZS, Malvern, UK. SEM images were also collected. Conditions considered covered a pH range between 3 to 9. Different levels of ionic strength were studied, given by indifferent electrolytes (NaCl) as well as divalent, specifically adsorbing cations (CaCl2 and MgCl2). Tannic acid and humic acid were selected as model organic compounds for natural organic substances. The effect of kaolinite was also investigated as a model inorganic natural colloid; in this case, size distribution was determined by the flow field fractioning technique. The experiments conducted demonstrated that although nanomaterials are unstable and expected to form large particles even in low to moderate ionic strength conditions, the presence of adsorbent species can render them stable and therefore mobile in the natural environment.

Bacterial infection represents a major cause of implant failure in dentistry. A common approach to overcoming this issue and treating peri-implant infection consists in the use of antibiotics. However, the rise of multidrug-resistant bacteria poses serious concerns to this strategy. A promising alternative is the use of antimicrobial peptides due to their broad-spectrum activity against bacteria and reduced bacterial resistance responses. The aim of the present study was to determine the in vitro antibacterial activity of the human lactoferrin-derived peptide hLf1-11 anchored to titanium surfaces. To this end, titanium samples were functionalized with the hLf1-11 peptide either by silanization methods or physical adsorption.
