When I heard that Eventide was branching out into the world of stompboxes, I was psyched. Several versions of the stalwart H3000 have graced my racks over the years, and Im still the happy owner/user of a vintage Eventide H949 harmonizer/delay. After decades of cutting edge and musical outboard gear, Eventides first floor pedal offering is the delay-centric Time Factor, and I really enjoyed putting it through its paces both in the studio and on stage. At the Time Factors core is a pair of discrete 3 sec delay lines and ten processing modes such as Vintage Delay, Tape Echo, Reverse, Loop, etc. that can be employed as stereo or dual-mono effects. Its three footswitches control tap tempo, infinite repeat, and (true) bypass. Some accoutrements that set the Time Factor apart from similar pedals include comprehensively assignable expression pedal and aux switch jacks (very cool-think of the possibilities!); a handy USB port for software upgrades and backing up user-created settings; and MIDI clock ...
The role of the time factor in management is increasing. Change directs attention to the time factor from the point of view of the organisation, and management does the same from that of the person. I examined the time management practice of managers of organisations related to agribusiness, and the reaction time characterising the adaption ability of the organisations through a questionnaire survey. I analysed the collected data with scientifically established statistical methods. During studying resources, managing tasks, change, reaction time and effect I explored the features of time as resource, the significance of the time factor, the improvability of time efficiency in the different managing functions, the factors supporting and hindering the quick reaction of organisations, and what rearrangements can be seen in management work nowadays. This thesis studies the influence of the time factor on the quality of the product data in the context of cross-company data communication. The research focuses on how a manufacturer can meet the required quality for its product master data on time to enable omni-channel commerce for its trading partners in the Fast-Moving Consumer Goods industry. The approach to answer the research question uses literature review and the multiple-case study methodology through face-to-face interviews with representatives of four leading companies in the retail industry in Germany. Additionally, this study analyses the feasibility of a solution proposed by industry specialists called Preliminary Trade Item ...

We developed a test for the statistical significance of differential expression as a function of time. When applied to microarray data obtained from endothelial cells exposed to shearing for different durations, the new multi-group test (G-test) identified three times as many genes as the one-way ANOVA at the same significance level. Using simulated data, we showed that this increase in sensitivity was achieved without sacrificing specificity. Several genes known to respond to shear stress by Northern blotting were identified by the G-test at P ≤ 0.01 (but not by ANOVA), with similar ...

Converted into years, that means the average man spends 25 years sleeping, 12 years working, 6 ½ years eating, 1 year doing lawn work and 3 years grooming. Now, how much time does the average man spend with his kids? One study showed that the average man spends 18 minutes a week talking with their kid. Multiply that by 18 years and the total time a father spends communicating with his child while he or she is growing up is just 11 days and 16 hours. Crazy.. Time is a question of priority. Teenagers today need to sense they are a priority by the way we are willing to invest into them as parents. They need our quality and quantity of time. Do they expect you to follow them everywhere? No. Teens have an amazing ability to discern motive. They understand that you have to work late sometimes. But they need to know that youd rather be with them.. Make the quantity and quality of time with your teenager a priority. An article from years ago in USA Today quoted Settle Mariners star Pete OBrien in his ...
What is the interpretation of a confidence interval following estimation of a Box-Cox transformation parameter ?? Several authors have argued that confidence intervals for linear model parameters ? can be constructed as if ? were known in advance, rather than estimated, provided the estimand is interpreted conditionally given ??. If the estimand is defined as ? (??), a function of the estimated transformation, can the nominal confidence level be regarded as a conditional coverage probability given ??, where the interval is random and the estimand is fixed? Or should it be regarded as an unconditional probability, where both the interval and the estimand are random? This article investigates these questions via large-n approximations, small-? approximations, and simulations. It is shown that, when model assumptions are satisfied and n is large, the nominal confidence level closely approximates the conditional coverage probability. When n is small, this conditional approximation is still good for

Large, elastic arteries buffer the pressure wave originating in the left ventricle and are constantly exposed to higher amplitudes of cyclic stretch (10%) than muscular arteries (2%). As a crucial factor for endothelial and smooth muscle cell function, cyclic stretch has, however, never been studied in ex vivo aortic segments of mice. To investigate the effects of cyclic stretch on vaso-reactivity of mouse aortic segments, we used the Rodent Oscillatory Tension Set-up to study Arterial Compliance (ROTSAC). The aortic segments were clamped at frequencies of 6-600 bpm between two variable preloads, thereby mimicking dilation as upon left ventricular systole and recoiling as during diastole. The preloads corresponding to different transmural pressures were chosen to correspond to a low, normal or high amplitude of cyclic stretch. At different time intervals, cyclic stretch was interrupted, the segments were afterloaded and isometric contractions by α1-adrenergic stimulation with 2 μM phenylephrine in the

Tackling the Time Factor. by Jessica Bell. The biggest problem I had with deciding to go indie was the time factor.. With a stressful full-time job as a project manager for the Academic Research & Development department at Education First, it was difficult for me to see how I could possibly work, write, blog, edit, publish, market, run a literary journal, direct a writers retreat, and live my life all at once. It doesnt help that Im a bit of a stickler. I like to get everything done myself because I have a hard time waiting on others to do things I know I can get done more quickly and efficiently. I outsource if I really have to, but I do enjoy doing the work, such as designing covers, learning new skills and navigating social media. So when I say, DIY, I really mean DIY. Where on Earth, I wondered, would I find the time to be an editor for an educational publisher and literary magazine, an author, a typesetter, a designer, and a marketer? And what about walking the dog? Making dinner? ...

I have a question that might be hard to answer but it is a very itersing oneI was wondering if time played any part in the game. For example you attack a pokemon and get a critical hits. What if you would have waited 4 or so minutes before you pressed the a button to attack, would you still have gotten a critical hit. I am aware of the fourmal of crictal hits was just wondering if there is a predestination part to it. Whether or not if I delayed my attack for a coplue of mintues would it have matter since its already preset ...

A method for delivering a time-sensitive message to a recipient includes receiving the time-sensitive message, the time-sensitive message having a rule set for delivering the time-sensitive message. The rule set is extracted from the time-sensitive message. The rule set specifies a starting time and an expiration time for the time-sensitive message. The time-sensitive message is provided to the recipient based on the starting time. A determination is made if a current time is within a threshold of the expiration time. An extension message is sent to a source of the time-sensitive message if the current time is within a threshold of the expiration time.

The tumor growth and metastasis of several cancers depend on the extent of both angiogenesis and lymphangiogenesis triggered by chemical signals that are originating from cancer cells with aggressive growth ability. The discovery of angiogenic inhibitors have been helping to reduce both morbidity and mortality resulting from multiple types of cancers. As part of the comprehensive treatment strategy combining anti-angiogenic agents with conventional cytoreductive treatments is considered to be the most effective approach. As part of this strategy an added ability for inducing apoptosis in cancer cells could make the therapeutic agents very effective. The in vitro anti-angiogenic activity of water soluble form of JFD (JFD-WS) was examined by ECMatrixTM gel assay with human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC) using 0.01-10 μM concentrations at different time intervals (0, 4 and 8 hrs). A complete inhibition of in vitro angiogenesis was observed in 8 hrs at 10 μM concentration of JFD-WS. Our ...
My ten year old wants to do an experiment on whether or not our dogs have a concept of time. In other words, he wants to know if the dogs can differentiate between us being gone for five minutes vs five hours. How would he go about to find this out. My suggestion to him was to leave and come back at different time intervals and document the dogs reaction to when he returns. Is their reaction whether hes gone for a few minutes the same or is it more intense when were gone for several hours. Do you have any suggestions for him or links that he could go to. Surely, this must have been questioned before. Thanks for your help or suggestions ...
Multiple Sclerosis (MS) lesions are known to change over time. The location, size and shape characteristics of lesions are often used to diagnose and to track disease progression. We have improved our lesion-browsing tool that allows users to automatically locate successive significant lesions in a MRI stack. In addition, an automatic alignment feature was implemented to facilitate comparisons across stacks. A lesion stack is formed that can be browsed independently or in tandem with the image windows. Lesions of interest can then be measured, rendered and rotated. Multiple windows allow the viewer to compare the size and shape of lesions from the MRI images of the same patient taken at different time intervals ...
Electrocompetent Top10 cells were electroporated with K238015, K238013 in psB3K3, I20260 and empty Top10 cells. These cells were plated out on agar plates with the correct AntiBiotic and grown overnight (37°). From these, a 5ml liquid culture supplied with AB was prepared and also grown overnight (37°C or 25°C). These cells were inoculated in fresh LB medium (100 µg AB/ ml) in the morning and grown at 16°C or 25°C for 3.5h. During all these steps, the cells were always kept away in the dark. Only when the experiment started, half of the cultures were put under blue light, the other half were kept in the dark. After that, the cells were whithdrawn at different time intervals. They were diluted into PBS and analyzed by flow cytometry with a Becton Dickinson FACSCalibur and CELLQuestTM acquisition and analysis software with gates set to forward and side scatters characteristic of the bacteria (Gate G2=R2). We decided upon using FACS because then the fluorescence of single cells is measured. ...

The intent of this Success Criterion is to ensure that users with disabilities are given adequate time to interact with Web content whenever possible. People with disabilities such as blindness, low vision, dexterity impairments, and cognitive limitations may require more time to read content or to perform functions such as filling out on-line forms. If Web functions are time-dependent, it will be difficult for some users to perform the required action before a time limit occurs. This may render the service inaccessible to them. Designing functions that are not time-dependent will help people with disabilities succeed at completing these functions. Providing options to disable time limits, customize the length of time limits, or request more time before a time limit occurs helps those users who require more time than expected to successfully complete tasks. These options are listed in the order that will be most helpful for the user. Disabling time limits is better than customizing the length of ...

The shift to the concepts Industry 4.0 and IIoT helps collect a vast amount of objective data about processes that take place in a production system, and thus, it creates background for taking advantage of theoretical results in practice; it is a trend towards synchronizing production system processes and external (market) processes in practice. In order for the target to be achieved, we use the methods that formalize management tasks in the form of predictive models, consider the cases with the computational solution of management models and decision making in production system tasks which are set based on time factor and are solved by approximate methods. We also take a look at the problems of probabilistic nature of gained decisions and address the cases, when by computational solution of tasks we need to take into account restrictions and select time step in order to obtain the decision in a table form of the function of time. The problems that we investigate help obtain and solve management tasks

The optimal timing of coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) in patients with ST elevated acute myocardial infarction (STEMI) is unclear. The purpose of the study is to evaluate and compare the outcomes in STEMI patients who underwent CABG within the various time intervals within the first 7 days of either emergent or urgent hospital admission. Patients aged 30 years old and older diagnosed with STEMI who underwent CABG within first 7 days after non-elective hospital admission were selected from the National Inpatient Sample 2010-2014 using the appropriate ICD-9-CM diagnosis and procedure codes. These patients were divided into 3 cohorts based on timing of surgery: within 24 h (group A), 2nd-3rd day (group B), and 4th-7th day (group C). The rates of postoperative complications, mortality, and postoperative hospital length of stay (LOS) were compared using the Chi-square test, multivariable logistic regression analysis, and Wilcoxon rank sum test. A total of 5963 patients were identified: group A = 28.5%

During an annual cycle, Daphnia spinulata collected from a plankton community of Patagonia was exposed outdoors to assess the impact of recently received solar radiation on motility (i.e. swimming speed and gravitaxis). Individual values of these parameters were obtained by video recordings and image analysis at different time intervals during the day. Initial swimming speed varied throughout the year, and changes in speed during exposure were not significantly affected by any waveband used in our experimental design (i.e. PAB, 280-700 nm; PA, 320-700 nm; and P, 400-700 nm). Overall, most of the individuals swam downwards, regardless of the radiation treatment imposed to the samples. We found that multifactor interactions (i.e. not a single parameter explained more than 40% of the observed variability) explained most of our observations on motility parameters. These factors include not only solar radiation, but other physical (underwater radiation field and wind intensity) and biological ...
Results: Postponement of measurements resulted in a significant increase in pH and a significant decrease of buffering capacity, phosphate and urea concentration. The results suggest that the time-related pH increase could primarily be attributed to loss of dissolved carbon dioxide from saliva, and confirm the importance of hydrogen carbonate in the neutralisation of hydrogen ions, but they do not support the principle of catalysed phase-buffering for the hydrogen carbonate buffer system in saliva. A decrease in phosphate and urea concentration affects salivary buffering capacity ...

This study reports differential expression of endoglucanase (EG) and beta-glucosidase (betaG) isoforms of Aspergillus terreus. Expression of multiple isoforms was observed, in presence of different carbon sources and culture conditions, by activity staining of poly acrylamide gel electrophoresis gels. Maximal expression of four EG isoforms was observed in presence of rice straw (28 U/g DW substrate) and corn cobs (1.147 U/ml) under solid substrate and shake flask culture, respectively. Furthermore, the sequential induction of EG isoforms was found to be associated with the presence of distinct metabolites (monosaccharides/oligosaccharides) i.e., xylose (X), G(1), G(3) and G(4) as well as putative positional isomers (G(1)/G(2), G(2)/G(3)) in the culture extracts sampled at different time intervals, indicating specific role of these metabolites in the sequential expression of multiple EGs. Addition of fructose and cellobiose to corn cobs containing medium during shake flask culture resulted in up
Theory of Sand Filtration. A set of nonlinear partial differential equations with dimensionless variables, for filtration of dilute unisized suspension in water through homogeneous sand beds under constant rates of vertically downward flow, is presented. The equations describe the space-time variation of suspension concentration and specific deposit in a filter medium. An expression for dimensionless filter coefficient relating all physical variables of filtration is obtained by dimensional analysis. Solutions of the equations were obtained with the aid of a digital computer using the finite difference method. The analytically determined suspension concentrations at different time intervals and depths of bed agreed adequately with the experimental values. An equation relating head loss per unit depth and specific deposit within the filter bed is derived and the validity of the proposed equation is verified with the experimental head loss data.

Abstract: From the emerging field of cellular therapy, there is an increasing demand for new media to provide optimal expansion of cells in culture. Hematopoietic stem cells have complex growth requirements and serum free media include over 50 components at concentrations from near zero to 7 g/L. Conventionally, media are developed empirically, either by depletion analysis or component addition to determine if culture productivity can be increased. This optimization process consumes valuable time and labour. We are investigating medium optimization through monitoring the gene expression profile of cells in culture based on the hypothesis that cells experiencing a particular limitation will exhibit a characteristic gene expression profile. We have analyzed gene expression of human TF-1 cells under nutritional stress and literature data on yeast under amino acid limitations. The expression levels of genes in pathways relevant to these stresses were monitored at several time points following ...

Has anyone received it? I have during UG, and all I needed was a Dr.s note. I plan to call LSAC tomorrow. I read LSACs policy and it seems like you need to undergo a ton of testing. Is this covered under insurance? Would I be able to do this in time for the Feb. test? I have a documented mental illness, and my registered with disability services at my college. After I found the right medication, I had a 3.5, 3.6, 3.75, 4.0, 3.75. I wrote an addendum to my top school about not being aware of LSAC extended time, but that I had registered with my school. I have tried ADD medications for my disorder, but they always lower my score. Right now, I am at the median of my top school, above at my safeties, and slightly below the LSAT at other schools (1-3 pts) while at or above the GPA median ...

Welcome to the home for real time coverage of European equity marketsbrought to you by Reuters stocks reporters and anchored today by Danilo Masoni. Reach him onMessenger to share your thoughts on market moves: [email protected] CLOSING SNAPSHOT: EUROPEAN STOCKS SEE FOURTH DAY OF LOSSES (1714 GMT) So thats now day four of the European equity sell-off. Germanys DAX was hit particularlyhard due to falls among health stocks (and a stronger euro doesnt exactly help) as bond marketjitters filter into equities. It looks like market watchers are taking this as a sign to becautious, rather than an outright bear market (maybe a mini correction?) given that the economicgrowth backdrop remains robust and should support equities. U.S. stocks are now in positive territory, so this pullback might be short-lived as theSTOXX 600 is now at its lowest since the beginning of the year. Heres your closing snapshot - have a good evening! (Kit Rees) *****
BACKGROUND:. Since the advent of thrombolytic therapy, early treatment holds particular promise for decreasing mortality from coronary heart disease. Thrombolytic therapy can reduce mortality by 25 percent for patients treated within the first few hours of AMI symptoms, with greater benefit the earlier the treatment. Not everyone who could benefit from receiving thrombolytic therapy receives such therapy. One contributing factor is that many people with symptoms do not seek emergency care in a timely manner. Studies show substantial delay times from AMI symptoms to hospital arrival, with means ranging from 4.6 to 24 hours and medians from 2 to 6.4 hours. EMS transport time is estimated to average 7 to 22 minutes, so a large portion of pre-hospital delay is attributable to patient recognition and action. Several factors have been associated with delay time. Sudden onset pain is associated with shorter delay times, and older age, female gender, African-American race, consultation with others about ...
TY - JOUR. T1 - The effects of observed decision time on expectations of extremity and cooperation.. AU - Evans, A.M.. AU - van de Calseyde, P.P.F.M.. PY - 2017/1/1. Y1 - 2017/1/1. N2 - The present research investigates how people use observed decision time to form expectations of others behavior in social dilemmas. In four studies, participants received information about others decision times (fast or slow) and were asked to estimate how much they contributed to a common pool. People believe fast decisions are more extreme than slow decisions; in other words, they assume that fast decisions are either extremely selfish or extremely cooperative. People also believe that fast deciders are less moral (Studies 1 and 2) and less conflicted (Study 2) than slow deciders. Beliefs about decision time depend on whether time can be attributed to self-paced reaction times or external time constraints. When decisions are made under external time constraints, time has inconsistent or heterogeneous effects ...
As an extension of these results, we sought to determine the temporal constraints on texture discrimination. We examined the influence of response duration on texture discrimination by changing the relevant time window in which we measure the firing rates. To assess the time scale needed for the neurons to discriminate between different textures, we calculated for each neuron the discriminability based on the response occurring on different time windows from stimulus onset. We measured the discriminability between different time scales with jumps of 50 ms. The time-scale analysis was made only on neurons we consider as possibly discriminating neurons (n = 44, ∼85% of the total population). Significance values were calculated separately for each time-window discriminability measure. We found that texture discrimination becomes significant after ∼200 ms. At this point in time, the majority of the recorded neurons becomes significant (Fig. 2E). These results suggest that this neuronal ...

Human immunodeficiency virus 1 (HIV-1) infection is associated with a vigorous cellular immune response that allows detection of cytotoxic T lymphocyte (CTL) activity using freshly isolated peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC). Although restricting class I antigens and epitopes recognized by HIV-1-specific CTL have been defined, the effector cells mediating this vigorous response have been characterized less well. Specifically, no studies have addressed the breadth and duration of response to a defined epitope. In the present study, a longitudinal analysis of T cell receptor (TCR) gene usage by CTL clones was performed in a seropositive person using TCR gene sequences as a means of tracking responses to a well-defined epitope in the glycoprotein 41 transmembrane protein. 10 CTL clones specific for this human histocompatibility leukocyte antigen-B14-restricted epitope were isolated at multiple time points over a 31-mo period. All clones were derived from a single asymptomatic HIV-1-infected ...
The aoristic and random methods produced the distributions of testimate that were closest to being homogeneous with the distribution of tactual, and neither significantly over- or under-estimated the frequency of crime in any hour of the day. Both methods appear suitable for use in the temporal analysis of aoristic crime. All crimes, even those with a long trange should be included.. Alone among the estimation methods, the aoristic method does not assume that each crime happened at a particular time-this may explain the apparent predictive power of aoristic analysis. The random method does make this assumption, but recognises that there is no way to know which particular time is correct. The cost of this approach is that it requires a sample of sufficient size to reduce the chance of clustering in the random times chosen. The random method is therefore likely to be less useful for small samples. Furthermore, the distribution produced by the random method is likely, with increasing n, to tend ...
BACKGROUND: Biochemical measurement of fat-soluble vitamins would allow direct assessment in epidemiological studies of their association with disease. However, the perceived instability of these compounds and typically high cost of collection and analysis may make their measurement impractical, particularly in large-scale studies. Using a high performance liquid chromatography assay developed in-house, we have investigated the separate effects of temperature and light on the stability of vitamins in whole blood over several days. METHODS: Multiple blood samples from 10 volunteers were stored at 20 degrees C or 4 degrees C and in dark or light conditions. Immediately after collection and 1, 2, 3, 4, and 7 days later, samples stored under each condition were centrifuged, and the plasma was aliquoted and stored at -80 degrees C. Subsequently, all aliquots from each individual were analysed in one analytical run. RESULTS: In whole blood stored under any of the four conditions for up to 7 days,

In just a single day, Indians have planted an impressive quarter-billion tree saplings.. Whereas mass tree planting operations around the globe are receiving more and more skepticism for their actual impacts on climate stabilization, the last four major plantings in the state of Uttar Pradesh have climbed to an impressive average saplings survival rate of 80%.. As per Peter Wohlleben, the renowned German forester and author of The Secret Life of Trees, our woody neighbors need an average 50 years of growing before any carbon can actually be considered sequestered, so the fact that many of Uttar Pradeshs new trees are now four going on five means theres a much better chance for them to survive pests, drought, or other dangers to become contributing members of tree society.. Along riverbanks and highways, and on farms, schools, and in forests, Sunday saw millions of residents of the most-populous Indian state continue what is now a yearly tradition (a year ago, 20 million saplings were planted ...
Blood counts were made on six series of monkeys before and at various intervals after the injection of active poliomyelitic virus. From the data thus obtained the variations in the circulating white cells have been followed in the several stages of the disease (a) before injection, (b) during the incubation period, (c) during the acute stage, including the stage of prostration, and (d) during recovery. On account of experimental conditions not all the monkeys were observed during the four periods, so that averages of counts in several monkeys are used for comparison.. Averages of 121 counts on 40 normal monkeys are recorded.. Immediately following the injection of the virus the relative and actual numbers of lymphocytes are slightly diminished. In many cases the curve continues sharply downward. In others from the 4th to the 6th day there is an actual increase for a brief period to a point somewhat in excess of the original count. With the onset of symptoms a lymphocytic crisis takes place. The ...
[Spring 2018 / HTP101-FA] When we were teenagers and in our 20s, we had energy at its peak. However, as we reach our 30s, 40s, 50s and beyond, we find that we dont feel as vigorous as before. Most of us start getting aches and pains. Pain is normally caused by injury or illness, but they can also be caused by bad eating or sleeping habits, lack of exercise or incorrect posture. In this one-day workshop, we will learn about the mechanisms of joints, muscles and nerves and their relation to the aches and pains we or our loved ones experience. We will also discuss symptoms and types of pain, learn about specific disorders related to the weakening of these parts of the body (Hemiplegia or Parkinsons) and discuss practical care for loved ones with disability, movement and balance disorders. Taking a practical approach through lectures, slide presentations and hands-on tips and exercises (self-care message, foot muscle training and how to choose appropriate footwear and assistive devices), this one-day
Measurements were made of simultaneous pulmonary artery wedge (PAw) and left ventricular diastolic (LVed) pressures 39 times during 21 venous and left ventricular cardiac catheterization studies in eight animals with brisket disease. Each animal was studied during the acute phase of the disease. The remaining 13 studies were carried out in six animals at various intervals during spontaneous recovery from pulmonary hypertension and heart failure. A pressure gradient between PAw and LVed (δP) which averaged 14.6 ± 1.6 (SE) mm Hg was demonstrated in 12 measurements during seven studies in four animals (group A). The δP in 27 measurements during 14 studies in six animals averaged 2.4 ±0.8 mm Hg (group B). Venous resistance (Rv) represented 39±5% of the total resistance (RT) of pulmonary vessels in group A and 13±4% in group B studies. The δP and Rv/RT in group A animals are consistent with findings caused by pulmonary venous obstruction. The obstruction was interpreted to represent the effect ...

Abstract: Synchronization in neural system plays an important role in many brain functions. Synchronization in the gamma frequency band (30Hz-100Hz) is involved in a variety of cognitive phenomena; abnormalities of the gamma synchronization are found in schizophrenia and autism spectrum disorder. Frequently, the strength of synchronization is not very high and is intermittent even on short time scales (a few cycles of oscillations). That is, the network exhibits intervals of synchronization followed by intervals of desynchronization. Neural circuits dynamics may show different distributions of desynchronization durations even if the synchronization strength is fixed. In this study, we use a conductance-based neural network exhibiting pyramidal-interneuron (PING) gamma rhythm to study the temporal patterning of synchronized neural oscillations. We found that changes in the synaptic strength (as well as changes in the membrane kinetics) can alter the temporal patterning of synchrony. Moreover, we ...
