By Thomas Murphy. Polly Hill was devoted to horticultural experimentation and raising plants from seed. She also named many of her favorite plants, including several cultivars (cultivated varieties) of stewartia. To get an exact duplicate (a genetic clone) of a plant, it must propagated asexually, which eliminates the genetic variability found in seed propagation. Typically this is done through rooting cuttings. While many of Pollys stewartia introductions have made it beyond our borders, some have not, primarily due to difficulties with propagation. As part of my curatorial internship I was tasked with looking deeper into these propagation issues.. A longtime problem with growing stewartia trees from cuttings is that after rooting, the cuttings fail to break dormancy the following season. This issue with overwintering has puzzled plant propagators and limited the distribution of some of Pollys most beautiful cultivars. Studies have shown a correlation between several environmental factors ...
Other articles where Mountain stewartia is discussed: stewartia: Another American species is the mountain stewartia, sometimes called mountain camellia (S. ovata), which is also shrubby; it is mostly confined to the southern Appalachians.

Stewartia monadelpha - Columnar to conical deciduous tree with peeling, red-brown bark. This tree has lance-shaped glossy dark green leaves that turn orange and red in autumn. In midsummer, cup-shaped white flowers with creamy filaments and violet anthers are borne singly or in pairs. In gardens, this tree will reach 25 feet height and spread.

Inflorescence bracts usually persistent, 1-2, immediately proximal to calyx. Pedicels terete, 0.2-0.7[-4] cm. Flowers [2-](5-)6-10(-12) cm diam.; sepals persistent, 5, connate proximally, concave, leaflike, thick and becoming lignified proximally, margins ciliate, apex acute, sericeous; petals 5(-8), connate proximally, white or creamy white, unequal, base pubescent and constricted, margins crenulate to erose, outermost petal slightly curved, abaxial surface silky or pubescent; stamens ...
For decades researchers have been using the famous Alexa Fluor dyes developed by Molecular Probes for everything from flow cytometry to oligonucleotide labeling. The original Molecular Probes patents have likely limited the number of companies offering less expensive alternatives to the Alexa Fluor dyes. Innovative dyes as DyLight and IRDyes have been developed and are used for specific applications, but direct alternatives for the standard Alexa Fluor exitation and emission spectra dyes have been difficult/impossible to find ..until now. ...

The LinKine™ AbFluor™ 647 Labeling Kit is the newest product among LinKine™ conjugation kits. With the new release of this product, Abbkine makes a revolutionary step in the supply of life science research tools. We genuinely hope the LinKine™ AbFluor™ 647 Labeling Kit will provide a better choice for global scientific works in the current market.. Now Alexa Fluor dyes are frequently used as cell and tissue labels in fluorescence microscopy and cell biology. The individual members of the family are numbered according roughly to their excitation maxima (in nm). AbFluor™ 647 is a far-red fluorescent dye optimally excitable by the 633 nm argon laser line, which is a superior alternative to Cy5, Alexa Fluor 647.. During the experiment, you are bound to know that the original concentration of the molecules labelled should be more than 2mg/ml. Since it is convenient for researchers to maintain a single-use vials of reagent. The featured benefits of LinKine™ AbFluor™ 647 Labeling Kit ...

QBlock™ Protein Microarray Blocking Buffer is a non-protein based reagent designed to block non-specific protein binding on porous nitrocellulose substrates. This blocker was formulated for maximizing assay signal while minimizing background from assays utilizing Quantum Nanoparticles (QNPs) for detection, and is also compatible with other assay types using organic fluors (e.g. Alexa Fluor dyes, Li-Cor dyes) or colorimetric endpoint detection (e.g DAB) after enzymatic amplification. It is supplied as a 1X solution, ready to use out of the bottle, for microarray applications. ...
