Terrorism? Which Terrorism? In the wake of the terrorist attack on American icons of financial and military might our government began beating war drums while the pied pipers of the Pinocchio press lead us off to a war against terrorism. Why were we attacked? many small voices from the wilderness of citizenry want to know. If you will notice, the pied pipers skillfully avoid asking our government to answer this simple and logical question. Why? Because to ask why leads to another question: What has our government done to cause so many of our countrymen to be killed? By Hari Heath What is the history of our national foreign policy that has led up to such death and destruction? Let us begin in our own homeland and how we acquired it. We celebrate Thanksgiving in remembrance of the native people who brought the early colonists food for the winter which made their continued existence possible. How have we repaid such generosity? The Trail of Tears forcibly evicted the Cherokee people from their ...
This thesis consists of three chapters. In chapter 1, I survey the existing work in the discipline of terrorism and conclude that terrorism is determined by multiple socio-economic factors and impacts the economic and political climate. In chapter 2, we analyse whether ethnic tensions contribute to the incidence of domestic terrorism, using a panel of 56 developing countries from 1997 to 2013, and estimate a zero-inflated negative binomial model. The results document that higher ethnic tensions are significantly associated with a higher incidence of domestic terrorist attacks, and related casualties. In chapter 3, we investigate whether the public order and safety spending (POS) has an association with the incidence of domestic terrorism, using a panel of 52 developing countries from 1997 to 2012, and estimate a Tobit model. We conclude that POS is not associated with the occurrence of domestic terrorist incidents, but has a significant association with related casualties ...
MOHAMMAD KHAZAEE ( Iran) said the elimination of terrorism would only be possible through collective and coordinated international efforts, led by the United Nations. The recent brutal terrorist attacks in Mumbai and the latest atrocious terrorist attack in Pakistan indicated that terrorism knew no boundaries. Apart from numerous measures taken by his Government, in line with the implementation of resolution 1373 and others, Iran had adopted the anti-money laundering act and intensified practical arrangements to ensure the safety and security of its borders. Irans costly fight against the Afghanistan drug-traffickers was another aspect of the fight against terrorism and its feeding grounds. As one of the first victims of the Taliban and of groups said to be affiliated with Al-Qaida, Iran had an unwavering determination in fighting terrorism and in contributing to the United Nations efforts in that regard. His country was still in deep sorrow after at least 13 of its soldiers were abducted and ...
AUSTRALIA THREATENED BY US STATE TERRORISM. After a 4 decade career as a scientist, I have almost finished researching and writing a huge book on global avoidable mortality. "State terrorism" has had massive complicity in global avoidable mortality (excess mortality) that now totals 1.3 billion since 1950. While "jihadist" and insurgent "non-state terrorists" have killed 5,000 Western civilians over the last 20 years, US state terrorism is complicit in a post-invasion avoidable mortality and under-5 infant mortality in Occupied Iraq and Afghanistan now totalling 2.1 million and 1.7 million, respectively. Please find below a summary of my informed and dispassionate assessment that AUSTRALIA IS UNDER SERIOUS THREAT FROM US STATE TERRORISM. Anyone has permission to publish this and otherwise inform all of their associates in the interests of humanity. Australia is irrationally expanding draconian civil rights-abusing anti-terror laws in response to right-wing media and politician hysteria over ...
Poetic Terrorism is a kind of performative act of rejecting a social stigma of obedience and moral righteousness that seems to be ever so vigilant in rural communities; for every bar there is church, and sometimes we can confuse the two... Poetic Terrorism is simply a thread of art production taken brazenly from the text of Hakim Bey and in a way reforming that single idea and remorphing it for an audience that may not have a conscious awareness of zines, art, and poetry. Poetic Terrorism is now out of print, variants may be produced in the future... but its primary mission has been absorbed by the new zine Polvo. ...

Each act of terrorism is a "performance" devised to affect many large audiences. Terrorists also attack national symbols,[36] to show power and to attempt to shake the foundation of the country or society they are opposed to. This may negatively affect a government, while increasing the prestige of the given terrorist group and/or ideology behind a terrorist act.[37]. Terrorist acts frequently have a political purpose.[38] This is often where the inter-relationship between terrorism and religion occurs. When a political struggle is integrated into the framework of a religious or "cosmic"[39] struggle, such as over the control of an ancestral homeland or holy site such as Israel and Jerusalem, failing in the political goal (nationalism) becomes equated with spiritual failure, which, for the highly committed, is worse than their own death or the deaths of innocent civilians.[40]. The astrological portrait of an event always presents us with many layers of meaning and implies a situation more complex than is apparent on the surface. The terrible terrorist attack on America on 11th September 2001 is no exception. Since that day, numerous articles have appeared on the internet offering an astrological interpretation of what has happened, and many of these can aid in our understanding.

The GTI report revealed the worrying record of terrorism-related deaths globally, particularly the continuing intensification of ISIS activity.. The report cited that ISIS became active in more countries, skyrocketing from 13 in 2014 to 28 countries in 2015.. Last years report showed the toll caused by the Islamic extremist group Boko Haram. In 2014 it was responsible for 6,644 deaths. ISIS killed 6,073 people in 2014. The two terrorist groups were responsible for more than half (51%) of deaths attributed to terrorism that year.. With these worrying figures, IEF chief Steve Killelea stressed the need for concrete action to counter the surge of terrorist attacks.. Killelea said in a statement, "The attacks in the heartland of Western democracies underscore the need for fast paced and tailored responses to the evolution of these organizations.". ...
Current world events have increased our awareness of the terrorism threat and the need for response planning. Canada is a potential terrorism target because of the democratic nature of our society. The September 11th attacks on the World Trade Centre had a direct impact on our surrounding communities. As Maple Ridge is located near international airports, we must be prepared.
Zach • April 13, 2010 10:58 AM "And to the usual chorus of "but terrorism is different, because the terrorist have evil intentions, whereas hurricanes and appliances are dispassionate", youve missed the point of risk analysis. Its not about creating a Top-40s list of whose risk is scarier, but about allocating scarce resources.". At least in my case, I dont believe I have missed the point of risk analysis at all nor have I attempted to create a Top-40. There is a credible issue of even performing risk analysis on a threat like terrorism vs hurricanes and appliances Because of the very different way they behave. The quality of the risk analysis that can be performed on a threat like terrorism is much lower than the quality of the risk assessment that can be performed on something like a hurricane or a plane. First, the sheer size of the threat space for terrorism is orders of magnitude larger than that of any of the "traditional" threats used for comparison. And second, the chaotic nature of ...
Eight years ago, I was woken by a phone call saying "They nuked New York!". Ive been a science fiction fan all my life, and I pay attention to security issues (computer security professionally though not as my main responsibility, and other stuff from habit and interest). So the concept of actual nuclear terrorism was by no means inconceivable to me. However, in a short time we worked through that the situation was somewhat different from that, and I got on the computer and started watching videos and looking for individuals posting their own photos (Ive still got a bunch of the photos I snagged off the net). But I am probably close to unique in remembering learning that airplanes had flown into the World Trade Center as a bit of an anti-climax.. For MultiLogic, where I worked from 1996 to 2000 when they shut down, Id made a number of trips to New York, and worked with major financial clients there (though none of the groups I worked with had their offices in the WTC complex). On a trip in ...
The study of domestic terrorism prosecution published by Mother Jones notes that "Ever since 9/11, counterterrorism has been the FBI s No. 1 priority, consuming the lion s share of its budget," and the bureau now boasts "a roster of 15,000 spies many of them tasked, as Hussain was, with infiltrating Muslim communities in the United States.". However, a February report on "Muslim-American Terrorism in the Decade Since 9/11" by the Triangle Center on Terrorism and Homeland Security found that the scale of so-called homegrown Muslim-American terrorism "does not appear to have corroborated the warnings issued by government officials" for the year 2011.. Finding a "relatively low level of radicalization among Muslim-Americans," the report adds that the US government s predicted surge in "homegrown Islamic terrorism" has not materialized and that the decline in prosecutions for funding terrorism, which makes up the bulk of domestic terrorism cases, "is particularly notable in view of the heightened ...

Review of the hardback: Terrorism is a global scourge that can often seem inexplicable. This superb volume, edited by Keefer and Loayza, turns the cold light of social science onto this hottest of topics. The books essays teach us about the organization of terrorist units and the origins of terrorists and the costs of fighting terrorism. I can only hope that political decision-makers, from presidents to ordinary voters, read this book and use its wisdom to make better decisions about how to respond to terror. Edward L. Glaeser, Harvard University. Review of the hardback: Terrorism is one of the greatest challenges the world faces today, but we still do not have a clear idea of the relationships between it and economic development as well as between it and political openness. This book, which includes contributions by many leading authorities on the subject of terrorism, makes a major contribution to clarifying these relationships. It makes two important points: First, contrary to the view ...

Article: Confusion At Official Level Strengthening Terrorism - Confusion still persists in the tribal areas situated on Pak-Afghan border as on the one hand the US military has been saying that Al-Qaeda terrorists have been hiding there, but on the other hand US officials have been showering praises on the controlling authority of tribal areas for their war against terrorism. The US ambassador has held a meeting with the NWFP governor and discussed with him the tribal areas situation.
This section will outline the technologies, processes, and limitations of forensics in order to better inform its potential for contributing meaningful data in a crisis involving nuclear material. It should be noted that most open-source literature on the processes and capabilities of nuclear forensics come from a pre-detonation position, as specifics on post-denotation procedures and timelines are classified.8)For example: Miller, "Nuclear Attribution as Deterrence"; Lieber and Press, "Why States Wont Give Nuclear Weapons to Terrorists,"; Allison, "Nuclear Deterrence in the Age of Nuclear Terrorism;" Larry J. Arbuckle, "The Deterrence of Nuclear Terrorism Through an Attribution Capability," Naval Postgraduate School, Graduate Thesis (June 2008). William J. Broad, New Team Plans to Identify Nuclear Attackers, New York Times, 2 February 2006, p. A17.. This has resulted in the technical difficulties and inherent uncertainties in the conduct of forensic operations in a post-detonation situation ...

JERUSALEM, Aug. 5 (JTA) - More than a year has passed since 8-year-old Yaniv Amousha was wounded in a suicide bombing at the central bus station in his hometown Hadera. But there are still nights, especially following terrorist attacks in Israel, when the nightmares return and Yaniv asks to sleep with his parents, says his mother, Tova Amousha. "The physical recovery was easy, but the emotional recovery has been very hard," she told JTA. But this summer, a day camp funded by the United Jewish Communities Israel Emergency Campaign helped Yanivs emotional recovery. "It was something else," Amousha says of the three-week day camp program, which ended in July. "Every day, he came home with a different story He had such a good time. They went to the pool, played games, he had a great time." Yaniv was playing soccer in a field adjacent to Haderas central bus station on May 25, 2001, when a car pulled alongside a public bus and blew up. The two terrorists inside the car were killed and 45 people ...
While abortion providers in most states already are using the protocol outlined in the new label, laws in effect in Ohio, North Dakota and Texas prohibited "off-label" uses of the drug and mandated abortion providers adhere to the older protocol approved in 2000. Similar laws in Arkansas and Oklahoma have been on hold pending legal challenges, while a county judge in Arizona ruled in October that states law was unconstitutional.Under the new label, a smaller dose of mifepristone can be used up to 70 days after the beginning of the last menstrual period instead of the 49-day limit in effect under the old label. Also, the second drug in the protocol, which follows a day or two later, can be taken by a woman at home and not be required to be administered at a clinic, reducing the number of office visits a woman must make."The FDAs approval of a label reflecting a more updated, evidence-based protocol for medication abortion has the potential to expand womens options for safely ending a pregnancy ...
Clinicians need to be able to take an appropriate history and conduct a targeted physical examination not only to ensure an index case does not get missed following a BCN event, but also to evaluate all patients with a syndrome consistent with BCN exposure following a recognized attack. A second element of clinicians responsibilities relates to infection control. Early and strict adherence to established infection control practices is essential to protecting health care workers and first responders, medical and ancillary staff, and secondary contacts, and to limit the spread of an epidemic. Finally, in addition to their bedside skills and awareness of infection control practices, clinicians must also be prepared to engage with both the public health and legal systems when responding to any real or potential BCN event. This chapter provides guidance to clinicians in the three essential responsibilities of clinical diagnosis, infection control, and public health intervention. ...

Living in the Brazos Valley does not mean were immune to a terrorist attack. In fact, many experts believe our region is actually more vulnerable to a specific type of terrorism, one that could have a devastating, long-term effect.
Children of different developmental stages interpret the world differently and at their own distinctive pace.7 Their developmental stage uniquely influences their response to traumatic events, and consequently, they display a great deal of variability in adjustment subsequent to traumatic events. Interventions to alleviate the psychological burden should be developmentally appropriate.25. The response of younger children to disaster is dominated by mood, anxiety, and behavioral symptoms.6 They are largely unable to understand the intentions and logic of others and, consequently, have great difficulty distinguishing a deliberate action from an unintentional incident. As a result, in the face of disaster, young children are more concerned with the consequences, and older children are more aware of the underlying principles of a traumatic event.7 Although older children also experience depression, their anxiety may take on specific and perhaps unrealistic forms and fears, and their behavioral ...
All acts of terrorism, all the outrages which have struck and which strike the imagination of men, have been and are either offensive actions or defensive actions. If they form part of an offensive strategy, experience has shown for a long time that they are always doomed to fail. If, on the other hand, they form part of a defensive strategy, experience shows that these acts can expect some success, which, however, is only momentary and precarious. The attempts of the Palestinians and the Irish, for instance, are offensive acts of terrorism; on the other hand the Piazza Fontana bomb [1] and the kidnapping of Moro [2], for instance, are defensive acts. However, it is not only the strategy which changes, according to whether it is a matter of offensive or defensive terrorism, but also the strategists. The desperate and the deluded resort to offensive terrorism; on the other hand it is always and only States which resort to defensive terrorism, either because they are deep in some grave social ...

Bush is not only playing fast a loose with words, but himself said that the war on terrorism is "un-winnable." As mush as I dislike the man, I happen to partially agree with Bush on this. Throughout human history, there have been a segment of the population that is willing to kill innocent people in order to prove a point, but we can remove many of the factors that lead someone to take such an extreme measure and reduce the number of terrorists. Unfortunately, Bush has a fundamental misunderstanding of terrorism and how to fight it. Brute force alone will not fix our terrorism problem. Take Chechnya for example. This is not a new problem for the Russians. Due to a century of brutally suppressing the Chechens, Russia was able to subjugate the region, but it also made for fertile breeding ground for separatists and terrorists. Now they are paying the consequences of their grandfathers actions. Even though Russia continues to use extreme force to fight terrorism (makes our Iraq effort look like a ...
Introduction. The Irish Republican Army: Before and After 1968 Nationalist terrorist groups are one of the many forms of terrorism found in modern days. The definition of terrorism is difficult due to its changing nature and the many forms in which terrorism manifests itself as. Nationalist terrorism is one such form. Nationalist terrorism is seen to be practiced by groups of individuals that belong to an organization with a well-defined structure, together with clear political, social or economic objectives and an ideology behind it. There have been quite a number of nationalist terrorist groups. Some of the more well-known ones include the ETA (Euskadi Ta Askatasuna), one of the worlds oldest separatist armed groups seeking an independent socialist Basque state, and the Irish Republican Army (IRA) which would be discussed in more depth in this paper. The IRA has been in existence for decades, during which it has many ups and downs. The main body of this essay would look at the failures of ...
Eight Israelis were killed and 30 more wounded during a well-planned terror attack along the Israeli-Egyptian border Thursday.. The attack was planned in the Gaza Strip by the Popular Resistance Committees and perpetrated by terrorists who crossed from Gaza into Sinai via smuggling tunnels. They then traveled some 200 kilometers to reach an area of the border protected only by a tattered wire fence, about 15 kilometers north of Eilat. …. The assault began around noon, when three terrorists armed with rifles, grenades and explosives entered Israel from Egypt and stationed themselves at intervals of about 200 meters along the highway to Eilat, Route 12, at a stretch of road that runs very close to the border. At 12:30 P.M., they opened fire on an Egged Bus 392, wounding seven passengers, causing light to moderate injuries. Most of those injured were soldiers.. A few minutes later, an empty bus and several cars arrived. The terrorists opened fire again, and when the bus stopped, one of the ...

Final 5-7. 5pp l/ll/OA 11:46 AM Page 6 FROM THREAT TO THREAT In chapters 3 and 4 \¥e described how the U.S. government adjusted its existing agencies and capacities to address the emerging threat from Usama Bin Ladin and his associates. After the August 1 998 bombings of the American embassies in Kenya and Tanzania, President Bill Clinton and his chief aides explored ways of getting Bin Ladin expelled from Afghanistan or possibly cap- turing or even killing him. Although disruption efforts around the world had achieved some successes, the core of Bin Ladins organization remained intact. President Clinton was deeply concerned about Bin Ladin. He and his national security advisor, Samuel "Sandy" Berger, ensured they had a special daily pipeline of reports feeding them the latest updates on Bin Ladins reported location. 1 In public. President Clinton spoke repeatedly about the threat of terrorism, referring to terrorist training camps but saying little about Bin Ladin and nothing about al Qaeda. ...

SETH JONES, RAND INTERNATIONAL SECURITY AND DEFENSE POLICY: Look, I think the data is indicative here. And that is, the largest percentage of people that are threatening the U.S. and threatening to commit terrorist attacks, there were 56 arrested in 2015 last year on terrorism-related charges, very few of them are refugees. So thats not to understate the refugee problem and the possibility that we could have refugees that come to the United States that may want to commit terrorist attacks. The Bowling Green, Kentucky, a couple of years ago that Pamela mentioned was certainly a significant one. But there are very low percentage of the terrorism cases we see right now. I think the Philadelphia one is a great example of an individual in the United States that is threatening. So I think the pool of people that are able to access this kind of social media that Phil mentioned, its a large pool and actually most of them are U.S. citizens ...
Article: Islamic Terrorism Has an Advocate in the Oval Office - John Boltons ascent to one of the most important positions in government and Donald Trumps decision to withdraw from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), or Iran nuclear deal, have allowed an avowed terrorist group -- and its cult-like leader -- to take on a position of authority in Washington and in American foreign policy.

A new study of over 17,000 Israelis has found that long-term exposure to the threat of terrorism can elevate peoples resting heart rates and increase their risk of dying. The researchers suggest that since changes in heart rate are easy to follow, the findings may help identify asymptomatic people who could benefit from prevention measures that limit increases in cardiovascular mortality risk.

GLOBAL WAR AND TERRORISM. The 21st Century is characterised by an unprecedented interconnectivity of nations, people and information: Globalization. With the economic and social benefits that flow from this process also come significant changes and threats to our security.. Political instability and radicalism, once understood as confined to historically volatile regions of the world now directly impact our lives at home. For companies and organisations operating on a global scale, the management of political and security risks poses substantial and complex challenges.. Truth be told, Uncle Sam was only getting warmed up building its Iraqi and Muslim Body Counts in early 1991. Washington had yet to enforce the economic sanctions that killed at least a million Iraqis or to undertake the 2003 invasion that killed more than a million more and devastated Iraq beyond repair. It had yet to ravage the Iraqi city of Fallujah (more on that below), as it did in 2004, using (among other things) radioactive ordnance that produced an epidemic of child leukemia there. It had yet to launch Barack Obamas massive drone war across the Muslim world, recently described by Noam Chomsky as "the most extensive global terrorism campaign the world has yet seen." It had yet to kill thousands upon thousands of innocent villagers and farmers in Afghanistan. It had not yet targeted a Doctors Without Borders hospital for repeated lethal bombing or undertaken the systematic torture and rape of Iraqi and other Muslims, including children, in places like Abu Ghraib, Guantanamo, and Bagram Air ...

In an advisory to its clients, Willis addressed considerations and offered preliminary guidance.. The broker noted several scenarios, depending on how a company has organized its terrorism risk transfer program:. • For terrorism coverage that is currently embedded in all-risk property, liability and workers compensation programs there are three potential scenarios:. 1. If there are no sunset clauses-contract provisions which may allow the insurer to exclude coverage for terrorism in the event that TRIA is not reauthorized-or reservation of rights clauses related to TRIA expiration, the program will run until its natural expiration. Market disruption may impact renewal pricing if no action has been taken on TRIA.. 2. If there is a TRIA-related sunset clause, the terrorism coverage will expire after Dec. 31. Policyholders should assess the need for insurance coverage and seek stand-alone coverage or a sunset clause extension.. 3. If there is a reservation of rights which allows carriers to ...
US experts were pondering on the safety of food imported into US from developing countries. In lieu of this thought process, a new trend has emerged in America of preferring locally produced food. This trend is affecting Wal Mart and Whole Foods too. It has been observed that when food travels far, the local community are the least benefitted out of the exports. But the trend to grow more locally will seriously affect nations that depend largely on agricultural exports. | Does US face agricultural terrorism?

This communication lists the existing tools and puts forward proposals relating to the preparation for and management of the consequences of all types of terrorist actions. The Commission will take action in the areas of civil protection and health protection. It will also create a network of alert systems to ensure a quick and effective response in the event of any attack or accident.. ACT. American Forces Press Service. WASHINGTON, Feb. 21, 2013 - State Department officials have issued an updated a worldwide caution for Americans traveling overseas.. "The Department of State remains concerned about the continued threat of terrorist attacks, demonstrations and other violent actions against U.S. citizens and interests overseas," says the caution, published on the departments website Feb. 19.. Officials said the caution updates threats to Americans overseas since the last worldwide caution was issued in July.. Overall, al-Qaida, its affiliated organizations and other terrorist organizations continue to plan terrorist attacks against U.S. interests in Europe, Asia, Africa and the Middle East.. "These attacks may employ a wide variety of tactics including suicide operations, assassinations, kidnappings, hijackings and bombings," the caution says. "Extremists may elect to use conventional or non-conventional weapons, and target both official and private interests.". Terrorists may ...
The Western Jihadism Project is a unique multi-media archive of quantitative and qualitative data recording the growth of Jihadism in Western Europe, North America, and Australia since the early 1990s. The data collection now comprises records for terrorism offenders from 20 countries.. The collection provides individual-level data for analyzing the demography of homegrown terrorism and micro data for charting the transnational networks responsible for the development of the Western branches of Al Qaedas transnational political organization since the early 1990s.. The premise behind the project was formulated a decade ago. Globalization has facilitated the transformation of Islamist extremism into a new type of globalist terrorist movement that cannot be controlled by the means that Western governments used to control domestic terrorism. Ten years on, the mechanisms of the Western homegrown movement inspired by Al Qaeda and its cells and counter-cultural groups and the globalist Islamist ...
2) "Kreindler & Kreindler Law Firm is a Cynical CIA Psyop Tool" - I originally posted this data in 2006. My motto: "The cover-up proves the crime." K&K is on intimate terms with the CIA, and has been central to covering up a score of covert ops/mass murders. K&K was also, as documented, instrumental in selling the American public on the Iraq War with a psychological operation falsely linking Saddam Hussein to 9/11 and the A-Bomb. Fox News: " ... Kreindler & Kreindler, a Park Ave. law firm that has been working overtime to establish a money trail leading from Saddam Inc.s amassed loot to al-Qaedas coffers. ... " Yes, its that kind of law firm ... Jim Kreindler on 9/11: "Immediately I suspected a terrorist attack and I found myself thinking about another terrorist event that dominated the attention of our law firm since 1988 - the bombing of Pan Am 103 by operatives of the Libyan government. ... U.S. official say they do not know who is behind the deadly, terrorist attacks in Mumbai, India. Since 2003, more than 600 people have died in India as a result of terrorism. Bob Orr reports.
A4. They crave the spotlight. Achieving live broadcast coverage of their attack on every international TV news network is the terrorists hottest erotic dream. And they know that more horrific the carnage they can inflict, the greater the number of dead, of bodies and of body parts for the foreign press to put on TV screens worldwide, the greater will be their media exposure.. The specific terrorists involved in actually carrying out an attack know they are going to their death. They have already made their choice; passage into heaven for themselves and their family, with their own added personal rewards of 70 virgins and a seat at Allahs dinner table.. Terrorists are diabolical and totally lacking in remorse. Surprise is an essential element in each of their attacks. Too often surprise is not difficult for them to achieve because the targets they attack are simply beyond our ability to conceive of as targets, even of the most barbaric of savages.. The organizational structure of the ...
Bioterrorism is a form of terrorism where there is the intentional release of biological agents (bacteria, viruses, or other germs). Terrorism is the defined by the United States government as the "...unlawful use of force and violence against persons or property to intimidate or coerce a government, the civilian population, or any segment thereof, in furtherance of political or social objectives." In addition to biological agents, terrorists can also utilize chemical agents and nuclear bombs. While a biological agent may injure or kill people, animals, or plants, the goal for the terrorist is to further their social and political goals. Many biological agents are found in nature; however, they can be modified by the terrorist to make them more dangerous. Some of these agents can be transmitted from person to person, and the infection may take hours or days to become apparent.. ...
The other day a man, Wade Michael Page, now sketchily described as a neo-Nazi white supremacist, shot some followers of the Sikh religion at their Wisconsin Temple, a patently deplorable action regardless of the backstory of either the perp or the victims. Beneath the obvious, this has set off a semantic war with unknown ramifications.. At first, knowing nothing about the shooter, the authorities speculated it was an act of domestic terrorism. Then the ignorant diagnosis was downgraded to a "type" of terrorist attack. On todays NPR news program, mention was made in passing that there was an ongoing investigation into whether this was an act of domestic terrorism. Aside from a spotty military career and a few drunken brushes with the law, we have learned only that Wade played with White Supremacist bands (a category of which I and doubtless many others were hitherto unaware).. What would flow from a conclusion that indeed this action falls under the "T word"? Why do we seem to have a compulsion ...
World leaders meeting at the United Nations have been calling for a coordinated response to terrorist attacks in Africa following the deaths of at least 67 people in an attack by Somali militants in Kenya. VOA State Department Correspondent Scott Stearns reports from the United Nations.
September 17, 2007. Amid the mountain of evidence released in the Holy Land Foundation terrorism financing trial, the most provocative has turned out to be a handful of previously classified evidence detailing Islamist extremists ambitious plans for a U.S. takeover.. A knot of terrorism researchers say the memos and audiotapes, many translated from Arabic and containing detailed strategies by the international Islamist group the Muslim Brotherhood, are proof that extremists have long sought to replace the Constitution with Shariah, or Islamic law.. But some academics and Muslim leaders say that the ideals contained in the documents were written by disgruntled foreign dissidents representing a tiny radical fringe. The documents also pre-date the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, and the 80-year-old Muslim Brotherhood is now either inactive or largely underground in America.. The documents - introduced in recent weeks as part of the prosecutions case in the trial of the now defunct Holy Land ...
Would you call this individual a "terrorist"?. This agent does not like to get his hands dirty. He does not blow things up himself. Instead, he turns on Fox News every day and waits for news that a terrorist act has taken place. An airplane blows up, a bomb goes of at a concert, a nuclear warhead goes off in a major city.. Instantly, he sends out a message claiming responsibility. "My organizations leaders ordered this attack. His followers executed it. Furthermore, if you do not meet my organizations demands we will do more of the same.". His message includes some vague threats that - that failure to meet these demands will result in some future bomb going off.. He is using terror as a political weapon. This sounds like a terrorist.. Well, what is the difference between this person and the religious leader who turns on the news, hears a report of some natural disaster, then releases a statement saying, "My boss God did this and, unless you meet our demands, he will do more of the ...
Scottish Labour leader Iain Gray, Scottish Conservative leader Annabel Goldie, and Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Tavish Scott all opposed the release of Megrahi. They appear to be siding with Hillary Clinton, Robert Mueller, the director of the FBI, and Admiral Mike Mullen.. They appear to be siding with the country that gave us Operation Northwoods, Operation Gladio, Operation Phoenix, and Operation Cyclone.. Northwoods was a Pentagon plan whereby the Pentagon would carry out acts of terrorism in the USA.. Gladio, reportedly, was Pentagon terrorism in Europe, including the Bologna Bomb.. Operation Phoenix was Pentagon terror and murder in Vietnam.. Cyclone was when the Pentagon armed and trained the Moslem extremists in Afghanistan.. Much the Scottish media has opposed the release of Megrahi, but there have been some brave exceptions. Terrorism: LOCKERBIE - Mueller, Thurman, Bollier, Lumpert and a timer. ~~. ...

Kitchen said police officers boarded the coach and, after checking all passengers passports, took him and another climate activist to be interviewed under schedule 7 of the Terrorism Act 2000, a clause which enables border officials to stop and search individuals to determine if they are connected to terrorism.. The passports were not initially scanned, Kitchen said, suggesting the officials knew his name and had planned to remove him from the coach before they boarded. During his interview, he was asked questions about his family, work and past political activity. The police also asked him what he intended to do in Copenhagen.. When Kitchen said that anti-terrorist legislation does not apply to environmental activists, he said the officer replied that terrorism "could mean a lot of things". By the time his 30-minute interview had concluded, Kitchens coach had gone.. ...

The underlying theory works like this: White blood cells and plasma help resist disease by adapting to-and remembering-invasive biological antigens long after the initial exposure. Likewise, vaccines are used to stimulate our immune system by building-long term resistance to viruses like the flu.. "We hypothesize that a terrorist working with Threat A (a virus) will develop distinct biological signatures from his exposure to Threat A and the environment unique to producing it," an appendix to the request put it. IARPA even sketched out a scenario.. First, a terrorist group creates a vaccination against a bioweapon using embryonated chicken eggs. A biologist working with the terrorist group then vaccinates himself before putting on rubber gloves. After that, he grows the virus inside a petri-dish for several days, extracts the virus from the growth and cleans any contaminated lab equipment inside a highly-pressurized steam bath.. The final step: he moves to a cage holding a family of furry, ...

Londons emergency services coped extremely well during the terrorist attacks on the city, undoubtedly saving many lives, say experts
The killing of an al-Qaida chemical weapons expert has dealt a heavy blow to the terrorist groups ambitions to build weapons of mass destruction, a former CIA case officer says.
The father of Ahmad Khan Rahami, the suspect of recent bombings in New York and New Jersey, told reporters that in 2014 he was worried about his son and took his concerns to the FBI. They investigated, the father said, and told him his son was fine. No one ever linked the young man to a mental health professional trained in threat assessment who could better determine whether he was on a dangerous path.
Scripture disallows seeking peace at any price. Some apologists argue that even believers must draw the line somewhere to stand up to the forces of evil. Wherever one stands, Christians need to be pro-active. As Friesen, Langan, and Stassen observe in their introduction to Just Peacemaking: Ten Practices for Abolishing War, "terrorism requires more than an ethic that says terrorism is unjust, it requires an ethic that points to practices that prevent it."[1] Some events create a time for war rather than a time for peace - when it would be un-Christian to not act unspeakably toward someone, perhaps a terrorist or terrorist organization.… Continue reading ...

No matter how sophisticated and super-duper are NSAs methods for identifying terrorists, no matter how big and fast are NSAs computers, NSAs accuracy rate will never be 100% and their misidentification rate will never be 0%. That fact, plus the extremely low base-rate for terrorists, means it is logically impossible for mass surveillance to be an effective way to find terrorists.. I will not put Bayes computational formula here. It is available in all elementary statistics books and is on the web should any readers be interested. But I will compute some conditional probabilities that people are terrorists given that NSAs system of mass surveillance identifies them to be terrorists.. The US Census shows that there are about 300 million people living in the USA. Suppose that there are 1,000 terrorists there as well, which is probably a high estimate. The base-rate would be 1 terrorist per 300,000 people. In percentages, that is .00033%, which is way less than 1%. Suppose that NSA surveillance ...
No one will receive additional goods, services, land, jobs, health, or freedom from a terrorist act. At best the act gets the attention of people whom the terrorist feels have taken these from his or her people. The important word is taken. It is not being poor that motivates an individual to become a terrorist. It is the loss of well-being. For a dirt farmer, it is not the absence of a flush toilet or an electric light that promotes extreme action. It is the loss of land or water, and thus dignity. If this analysis is correct, to rid ourselves of terrorism we have to change the behaviors that cause taking.. From the terrorists point of view, institutions do the taking. However the causality does not end here. Institutional taking is driven by the taking behaviors of its constituents. Individuals, creating their families and lifting them to a better life, create the political and economic forces that drive institutional taking.. The connection between personal action and the taking that ...
The FBI has built a massive network of spies to prevent another domestic attack. But are they busting terrorist plots-or leading them? UPDATE: On September 28, Rezwan Ferdaus, a 26-year-old graduate of Northeastern University, was arrested and charged with providing resources to a foreign terrorist organization and attempting to destroy national defense premises. Ferdaus, according to the FBI, planned to blow up both the Pentagon and Capitol Building with a large remote controlled aircraft filled with C-4 plastic explosives.
Kidney failure.. Later report from Australia-buddy: "Jodie Cearns, 35, Brisbane (stepdaughter of Olympic heptathlon gold medallist Glynis Nunn-Cearns) - critical: burns to 90 per cent of body, collapsed lungs, kidney failure, shrapnel in stomach, had left leg amputated above the knee, right leg and pelvis broken, may have lost right eye but swelling still too great to tell, pressure on her brain.". This was in an email from my friend down in Australia. We have been keeping abreast of the terrorism closer to his side of the world, where terrorists groups are really heating things up. The result of the bombings in a resort in Bali were horrendous. I saw the buildings and they were twisted metal and skeletons of debris, people were running down the street and the flames were wickedly coming through the roof of the nearby buildings. It was a scene straight out of hell and that is what the terrorists want: us, the infidels, to taste hell and live in fear.. I wonder why the rest of the peaceful ...
Hearing about the London bombings seemed very strange. I think everybody has been expecting something like this for the last three or four years. We are kind of used to the idea of terrorist attacks, especially in London as you can see here. But since September 11th 2001 and subsequent Al Queda attacks we have been aware that next time it might happen on a much larger scale. The IRA were/ are wankers of the highest order, but they were at least under the illusion of having a political argument - they were invested in keeping a reasonably low body-count so that they wouldnt be seen as monsters. Al Queda (and similar) appear totally unreserved. Theyre wankers without pretentions, they dont need to be cunning or evil or even especially zealous; any arse can blow themselves up and take a random group of innocent people with them, but as such they are capable of doing infinite amounts of damage ...
The terrorist attacks that have occurred in the past few years around the world have raised international awareness of the danger of terrorism and its complex repercussions on the financial markets. This paper explores the ways in which financial markets reacted to the attacks and the authorities responses. Well-functioning financial markets, bolstered by the prompt and effective reaction of the relevant authorities, were generally efficient in absorbing shocks stemming from terrorist attacks. The paper discusses market and regulatory responses to the terrorist attacks and the elements that should be strengthened so as to further enhance the resilience of financial markets to terrorism.

7. However, in our assessment, so far the involvement of Syrian veterans in terrorism and subversion in the various Arab countries is still nascent. However, there have been cases which indicate what the future may hold: in Egypt it was reported that jihadist veterans of the Syrian conflict were detained for their involvement in terrorist activities against the Egyptian regime, or were killed during a terrorist attack carried out by the Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis (which is affiliated with the global jihad).[4] In May 2014 the Saudi Arabian ministry of the interior recently announced the exposure of a terrorist network that was in contact with extremists in Syria and Yemen. In Jordan the ISISencouraged demonstrations and riots in the southern city of Maan, a hotbed of anti-regime subversive activity. In Israel, two Israeli Arabs were asked by jihadist organizations to carry out terrorist attacks in Israeli territory after they had returned from Syria. In addition, in December 2013 a jihadist network ...
Based on the above exposures, a number of health concerns are beginning to become evident for those involved in the clean up or those living and working in the immediate environment of the collapse. The risk for chronic respiratory effects is paramount in many health care and site workers minds. The reported widespread development of a "cough", dubbed "WTC cough" by the firefighters who seem most prominently affected, has heightened this concern. It should be noted that virtually all 11 000 New York City firemen have been at the site for extended periods of time. In addition to various examinations of samples of site workers conducted by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) and some unions, the Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY) is undertaking examinations of all of its members in an attempt to physiologically categorise and explain the cough and other respiratory symptoms. Based on the literature, the likelihood that single or multiple exposures to dust ...
The area surrounding Oklahoma City-especially Moore, Oklahoma-was tragically devastated by an EF-5 tornado May 20. It was the areas most destructive tornado since May 1999, and unfortunately more severe weather is predicted for the broader Texarkana region this week.. The Society for Human Resources Management and U.S. Department of Labor both offer guides to help employers ready their businesses for natural disaster. Disaster preparedness content from SHRM can be found here; the Labor Departments Tornado Preparedness Guide can be found here.. According to the National Weather Service, tornadoes cause an average of 60-66 deaths and 1,500 injuries per year. These powerful phenomena can be as wide as a mile and travel for many more, moving as fast as 70 miles per hour across the ground and producing winds stronger than 200.. Unlike hurricanes or blizzards, tornadoes can happen at any time of the year. While most tornadoes end up being relatively weak, employers-particularly those operating in ...
