This paper proposes two hypotheses that urban housing prices inhibit urban labor mobility and urban high-tech industry development by introducing the extended CP model of housing prices. On this basis, using the data of the 9-city data of the Pearl River Delta from 2001 to 2015 to conduct empirical analysis and testing through the fixed-effects model, it is found that the increase of relative housing prices in cities will promote urban labor inflows and inhibit the development of urban high-tech industries. Factors such as education level, medical level, and government budget expenditure will, to a certain extent, strengthen the role of relative housing prices in promoting labor inflows and weaken the inhibition of urban housing prices on high-tech industries.

Downloadable (with restrictions)! This paper explores the relationship between ownership structure and firm value in firms listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange. The results of the estimations, taking into account simultaneity and reverse causality, show that the relationship between ownership concentration and firm value differs across firms belonging to the sector of innovative technologies and more mature firms. The results give support to the hypothesis that mature firms with higher ownership concentration are likely to perform better than firms with more dispersed ownership. In contrast, in high-tech companies, with large share of knowledge related activities, higher ownership concentration is associated with lower firm value. This effect is robust to various alternative specifications.

Confidence is necessary for effective top management team (TMT) functioning, however overconfidence or hubris has been associated with poor outcomes. Researchers have struggled to untangle questions of how much confidence is functional and whether there are different forms of confidence. Using data from a field study of 54 public high-technology firms we provide a richer understanding of the complex influence of one type of confidence, TMT potency on strategic decision-making. Specifically, using a field study of TMTs of 54 public high technology firms we find potency at least partially mediates the relationship between TMT experience and knowledge, TMT interaction process, and strategic decision speed. Post-hoc analysis of high potency teams suggests that potency may be either functional -- leading to high performance, or dysfunctional -- resulting in low performance. Potency appears to be a multi-faceted construct consisting of both level and domain boundedness. We offer propositions that ...

COMMENTARY. Science councils in South Africa. R.J. Scholes*; F. Anderson; C. Kenyon; J. Napier; P. Ngoepe; B. van Wilgen; A. Weaver. The CSIR celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2006 by taking a long, hard look at its continuing role in South Africa. This paper was written by the CSIR Fellows, at the invitation of the Department of Science and Technology, to capture some of the thoughts that were raised by that process. Its purpose is to contribute to the national discussion on how best to organize a system of innovation for a developing country, like South Africa, with aspirations to be a respected competitor in selected high-technology areas.. There is compelling evidence that the creation of science councilsa , starting in South Africa with the CSIR in 1946, had a catalytic role in establishing the strong and diverse science, engineering and technology (SET) base that exists in the country today.1 But now that we have many large universities with strong research capacity and traditions, a ...

The acceptance and dissemination of a new technology in health care is a non-linear process, that can be determined by a large array of factors, some linked to the technology itself or the associated health problem, others related to actions and interests of the different stakeholders [10, 19]. Scientific evidence of a potential superiority with regard to methods already in use is but an element to influence the adoption of a new technology. The capacity of organizations to incorporate new knowledge and practice, the institutional, social and political forces involved, and the perceptions and reasoning of the various actors participating in the multiple arenas where the incorporation of a new technology takes place may induce specific patterns of acceptance or rejection that need to be understood at a local level [20].. The incorporation of the new TB diagnostic technology discussed in this study seems to be taking place without much difficulty, but there are some limiting factors to fully ...

Hosted by Knox Lovell. German manufacturing data is used to estimate a dynamic, structural model of discrete firm investment in R&D and quantify its cost and long-run benefit. The dynamic model incorporates linkages between the firms R&D choice, product and process innovations, and future productivity and profits. The long-run payoff to R&D is measured as the difference in expected firm value generated by the R&D investment. It increases firm value by approximately 3.0 percent in high-tech manufacturing industries but only 0.2 percent in low-tech industries. Simulations show that R&D cost subsidies significantly affect investment rates and productivity changes in the high-tech industries.. ...

Concept and development The idea of providing the best diagnostic and therapeutic facilities of modern medicine to the underserved populations in a rural part of India, all free of charge and within the time-frame of a year, would be considered an impossible undertaking by any government or private organization. Yet, this is exactly what was proposed in November 1990 by Sri Sathya Sai Baba when he declared that, starting from scratch on a previously undeveloped site, a new building would be erected, staffed and equipped so that the first operations in open-heart surgery could be carried out one year later. The story of how human effort was able to execute the "divine" will is a remarkable one. The impressive building, which rose miraculously within a six-month period, was designed by the British architect, Professor Keith Critchlow, and stands as a magnificent temple of healing, its inspiring architecture imparts an aura of divinity and peace to all who enter the hospital for investigation or ...
Hinderer and her colleagues now have a broad range of different applications in mind. "For example, we want to find out how old heart valves differ from young ones, which is why we are currently studying age-related tissue alterations of the heart. We hope that this will give us the information we need to adapt the different scaffolds to the relevant application." In addition to decorin, the researchers are testing a number of other proteoglycans for their suitability for electrospinning and to find out whether they support cell colonisation and tissue regeneration.. The new tissue substitute with proteoglycans was presented to the expert community at Medtec held in Stuttgart in April 2015. NaturalNews) Not all of todays high-tech, ultra-talented athletes are hooked on todays high-tech supplements. In fact, more than a few of them are beginning to do the right thing for their bodies by rejecting synthetic sports drinks and supplements, in favor of real food.. The natural food phenomenon is being highlighted as the start of the 2012 Olympic Games in London is set for later this month, when viewers of the games will no doubt be bombarded with ads for so-called "sports" drinks, nutritional supplements and energy gels - the latter of which comes in small foil packages and which so many runners and cyclists use during their events.. the biggest problem with politics and perhaps US politics in particular is that there is too much by far of this good speech crap, old mates club and everything you can think of except being the right person for the job. consider the amount of clout this woman has and then to see she doesnt know anything about the very thing that has been/is being used to spy on just about the whole world. that is so scary, its untrue! she may not know much about it, but she knows enough to deny what it can do, knowing full well that she is spouting nothing but lies! she needs to go and quick ...
