Abstract The present study aims to synthesize highly stable and dispersed cytotoxic silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) from Tabernaemontana divaricata (T. divaricata) leaves extract, by using noble green approach at room temperature. Phytocomponents were investigated using general methods and found good agreement with reported literature. Green synthesized AgNPs were characterized using UV-Vis, FT-IR, XRD, TGA, FEG-SEM, EDX, TEM, SAED and AFM spectroscopy techniques. XRD and SEAD confirmed polycrystalline nature. TEM study shows spherical morphology with size range 6-20 nm. Suforhodamine B (SRB) assay revealed potent cytotoxicity of AgNPs on A549 cells with IC50 value 32.3µg/ml. As per SRB assay in case of AgNPs, GI50 = 37.1µg/ml, TGI = 68.9µg/ml, LC50 = , 80µg/ml, while T. divaricata exhibits GI50, TGI, LC50 values = , 80µg/ml, indicating greater biocompatibility of AgNPs in comparison to T. divaricata leaves extract. This investigation reveals that T. divaricata mediated AgNPs has a great ...

Management of chronic pain continues to represent an area of great unmet biomedical need. Although opioid analgesics are typically embraced as the mainstay of pharmaceutical interventions in this area, they suffer from substantial liabilities that include addiction and tolerance, as well as depression of breathing, nausea and chronic constipation. Because of their suboptimal therapeutic profile, the search for non-opioid analgesics to replace these well-established therapeutics is an important pursuit. Conolidine is a rare C5-nor stemmadenine natural product recently isolated from the stem bark of Tabernaemontana divaricata (a tropical flowering plant used in traditional Chinese, Ayurvedic and Thai medicine). Although structurally related alkaloids have been described as opioid analgesics, no therapeutically relevant properties of conolidine have previously been reported. Here, we describe the first de novo synthetic pathway to this exceptionally rare C5-nor stemmadenine natural product, the ...
The study of Apocynaceae species used in traditional medicine reveals that 25 species in 16 genera are of ethnobotanical interest. Nineteen species are medicinal, sixteen of which fall under the subfamily Plumerioideae which usually has indole alkaloids. The most common category of diseases treated is skin and ectoparasitic diseases followed by abdominal diseases, diseases of the head, female conditions and venereal diseases. The root is the most commonly used part of the plant and it is possible that the alkaloids play an important role in the medicinal value of the plants. Many species are used for non-medicinal purposes as fruit (Saba comorensis), edible roots (Carissa edulis), poisons (Acokanthera schimperi), fodder (Strophanthus mirabilis), wood (Funtumia africana), birdlime (Tabernaemontana pachysiphon), ornamentals (Adenium obesum), dye (Carissa edulis) and perfume (Wrightia demartiniana ...
Sixty-three extracts obtained from 18 plants traditionally used in the South Pacific archipelago Vanuatu for the treatment of infectious diseases were screened for antimicrobial and antiprotozoal activities. In addition, the extracts were subjected to a detailed analysis on cytotoxic effects toward a panel of human cancer cell lines, designed as a smaller version of the NCI60 screen. Intriguingly, 15 plant extracts exhibited strong cytotoxic effects specific for only one cancer cell line. Extracts of the leaves of Acalypha grandis Benth. significantly affected Plasmodium falciparum without showing obvious effects against the other protozoa tested. The leaves of Gyrocarpus americanus Jacq. displayed significant activity against Trypanosoma b. brucei and the leaves of Tabernaemontana pandacaqui Lam. I as well as the stems of Macropiper latifolium (L.f.) against Trypanosoma cruzi. In contrast none of the extracts showed relevant antibacterial or antifungal activity. ...

Brittens empathy with Wolf is also in evidence on the other disc, assembled from recitals given by Britten and Pears in 1969 and 1972. By 1972 the tenors voice had begun to fray, though the sardonic Bei einer Trauung is a masterpiece of timing and colour from both artists. The 1969 Schubert group includes one of the most pliable, sensuous performances on disc of Ganymed and a deliciously buoyant Der Musensohn. Brittens own On This Island is an indispensable reading, with a haunting, languorous nocturne; and if Pears misses the easy charm of Quilters O Mistress Mine, he and Britten give an uncommonly passionate rendering of Fear no more the Heat o the Sun. No texts or translations, alas. But this should not deter collectors from snapping up these mementoes of some revelatory music-making. Richard Wigmore. ...

In 1969, Roy J. Britten and Eric H. Davidson published Gene Regulation for Higher Cells: A Theory, in Science. A Theory proposes a minimal model of gene regulation [3], in which various types of genes interact to control the differentiation [4] of cells through differential gene expression. Britten worked at the Carnegie Institute of Washington in Washington, D.C., while Davidson worked at the California Institute of Technology [5] in Pasadena, California. Their paper was an early theoretical and mechanistic description of gene regulation [3] in higher organisms.. A Theory stated the hypothesis that repetitive non-coding sequences are at the core of genetic regulation [3], which was unconventional in the late 1960s and early 1970s. While working at the City of Hope Medical Center in Duarte, California, Susumi Ohno in 1972 termed repetitive non-coding DNA as junk DNA, but by the end of the 2000s many biologists abandoned that term based on multiple discoveries that indicated the ...

As part of the Around Britten tour, production company Yeast Culture has created a series of visuals to accompany Brittens Third Suite for Cello. Matthew Barley has worked with Yeast Culture once before on the Virtual Cellist project at Kings Place in London, finding them to be a wonderful collaborative partner, sensitive to music, and full of ideas.. Matthew says: Over 20 years of playing Britten I have often found myself giving spoken introductions to the works, helping an unfamiliar audience make sense of a new work that appears complex at first hearing. For this tour I wanted to do something different, and had the idea of a visual accompaniment that would act as a visual programme note, illuminating some of the aspects of the form of the piece, as well as being a work of art in its own right. The suite is a series of nine variations, using four themes that all come at the end of the piece, so, for instance, one of the themes is a Russian folk song called Autumn, and ...

The song powerfully employs the shahada and a common humanity to de-authorize the self-imposed omnipotence of the Gaddafi regime while encouraging protesters from Tunisia to Libya, Bahrain to Yemen to rise up against oppression. It also points to a tightening of familial, political, and identity links between Arabs who have long lived abroad and younger generations who may have never visited the countries their parents originally hailed from.. The fact that Cant Take Our Freedom has been so popular and well received by Arabs both in the West and in the MENA region speaks to a particular movement in which those who have chosen self-exile for political or economic reasons (or had it imposed upon them) are now collaborating in the rewriting of history with those who never left the country of origin but nevertheless felt internally displaced or dispossessed by the institutionalized power structures under which they lived.. Iboga extracts, as well as the purified alkaloid ibogaine, have attracted attention because of their purported ability to reverse addiction to recreational drugs such as alcohol and opiates. Anecdotal reports assert that administration of ibogaine reduces craving for opiates and cocaine for extended periods of time. Ibogaine is a k-opioid agonist which may be the reason it reduces opiate withdrawal symptoms. While some published data suggests that iboga derivatives attenuate drug- and ethanol-induced behaviors in rodents, as well as humans.. Ibogaine is classified as a schedule 1 controlled substance in the United States, and is not approved there for addiction treatment (or any other therapeutic use) because of its hallucinogenic and cardiovascular side effects, as well as the absence of safety and efficacy data in human subjects.[3] In most other countries it remains unregulated and unlicensed.[4]. Independent ibogaine treatment clinics have emerged in Mexico, Canada, the Netherlands, South ...

R v Conway [2008] CRI-2008-004-19495 (No 2). The continuing nature of an offence can be relevant to the Courts consideration of whether a term of imprisonment is an appropriate sentence. The District Court imposed a six and a half month term of imprisonment in light of the serious, continuing, and deliberate contraventions of previous enforcement orders. The defendants previous convictions and imprisonment for similar offences was an aggravating factor requiring an uplift in the term to reflect the previous offending. The distribution of Larrea divaricata Cav. in relation to soil CaCOj was examined in a portion of the Walnut Gulch Exp c £ i merit 2.2. Watershed, near Tombstone in southeastern Arizona. Although moderately frequent on calcareous soils, :L. divaricata was extremely rare on soils with non-calcareous, slightly acid to circumneutral surface horizons. Some mechanisms that might account for the exclusion of L. divaricata from non-calcareous soils were investigated. Soil CO^ concentrations during the summer rainy season tended to be slightly higher in non-calcareous soils than in calcareous soils, but did not exceed 0.41%. In solution culture, 1% CO^ at pH 6, pH 7, or pH 8 had no significant effect on root length of seedlings seven days old. Root elongation during the first three days appeared to be inhibited by high HC03 concentrations, produced either by high pH or by high CO^ concentrations. Carbon dioxide toxicity cannot account for exclusion of L. divaricata from non-calcareous soils. Cotyledon ...

What is Iboga?. Iboga generally refers to the root bark of the Tabernanthe Iboga shrub native to West Africa which has been consumed by native cultures ceremonially and medicinally for millennia.. What is Ibogaine?. Ibogaine is an alkaloid with psycho-active and anti-addictive properties found in at least iboga root bark and voacanga africana.. Where does it come from?. The plants that contain ibogaine are native to West Africa.. Whats the difference between ibogaine HCL and TA?. TA stands for Total Alkaloid. This is iboga root bark refined to a level where all the naturally occurring alkaloids are still present. Ibogaine is but one of more than 20 alkaloids present in iboga root bark. Taking TA seems to offer a richer and longer experience which is perhaps more holistic than HCL; it seems a more appropriate tool for psycho-spiritual treatments. (That last sentence is totally arguable.) HCL is the chemical label for hydrochloride, which signifies an extraction process that results in ibogaine ...

Whatever version you choose of Peter Grimes, Brittens operatic masterpiece, you are assured of a dedicated, convincingly executed performance, different as each may be. Listening to comparison upon comparison, I found myself amazed again and again at the composers since-unsurpassed genius for structure, content, timing and emotional sympathy. After almost 60 years, the work re-mains the greatest opera of the mid-20th century, probably of the whole century, Elektra and Butterfly perhaps excepted.
Iboga (Tabernanthe iboga) is a psychedelic plant that is native to central Western Africa that has shown the ability to alleviate addiction in individuals that have alcohol, cocaine, or heroin dependency. Currently, the pharmacological options that we have to treat these addictions are limited and fairly ineffective. Ibogaine (one of the alkaloid structures in Iboga) has shown to have some effectiveness in helping sufferers kick their particular habit. One single session with the plant can remove all cravings for up to six months and multiple sessions with the substance can remove cravings for years.
