Timothy syndrome is a rare autosomal dominant disorder characterized by physical malformations, as well as neurological and developmental defects, including heart QT-prolongation, heart arrhythmias, structural heart defects, syndactyly (webbing of fingers and toes) and autism spectrum disorders. Timothy syndrome often ends in early childhood death. The most striking sign of Timothy syndrome is the co-occurrence of both syndactyly (~0.03% of births) and long QT syndrome (1% per year) in a single patient. Other common symptoms of Timothy syndrome are cardiac arrhythmia (94%), heart malformations (59%), autism or an autism spectrum disorder (80% who survive long enough for evaluation). Facial dysmorphologies such as flattened noses also occur in approximately half of patients. Children with this disorder have small teeth which, due to poor enamel coating, are prone to dental cavities and often require removal. The average age of death due to complications of these symptoms is 2.5 years. Atypical ...

N2 - Timothy syndrome 1 (TS1) is a rare genetic disorder characterized by multisystem abnormalities including QT prolongation, congenital heart defects, facial dysmorphism, episodic hypoglycemia, and neurological symptoms. A morphological hallmark of TS1 is syndactyly, present in all cases. TS1 is caused by the canonical p.Gly406Arg mutation in the alternatively spliced exon 8A in the CACNA1C gene, encoding for the main cardiac L-type calcium channel. A variant case of TS1 is reported. The proband had intermittent fetal bradycardia with heart rate of 72 bpm. On the first day of life bradycardia due to 2:1 atrioventricular (AV) block and marked QTc ...
Timothy Syndromes Alliance wrote - The mission of Timothy Syndromes Alliance (TSA) is to raise physician and public awareness and to improve the health and well-being of those affected by Timothy Syndrome\Long QT8, through education, research and family support. The Alliance was formed by two concerned mothers and Katherine Timothy, for whom the syndrome is named, in association with the SADS Foundation. In 2016 TSA held its first ever family support gathering and a one day conference as part of the SADS International Conference, held in San Diego, California. It was a rare opportunity for patients and families to meet in person and attend a syndrome specific roundtable discussion with Katherine Timothy. Patients traveled from all over the United States, and were represented world-wide, as far away as Hong Kong. In 2016, being fiscally conservative with contributed funds, Timothy Syndromes Alliance was able to provide travel scholarships to families as needed. Your generous gift will

Autosomal dominant genetic diseases can occur de novo and in the form of somatic mosaicism, which can give rise to a less severe phenotype, and make diagnosis more difficult given the sensitivity limits of the methods used. We report the case of female child with a history of surgery for syndactyly of the hands and feet, who was admitted at 6 years of age to a pediatric intensive care unit following cardiac arrest. The electrocardiogram (ECG) showed a long QT interval that on occasions reached 500 ms. Despite the absence of facial dysmorphism and the presence of normal psychomotor development, a diagnosis of Timothy syndrome was made given the association of syndactyly and the ECG features. Sanger sequencing of the CACNA1C gene, followed by sequencing of the genes KCNQ1, KCNH2, KCNE1, KCNE2, were negative. The subsequent analysis of a panel of genes responsible for hereditary cardiac rhythm disorders using Haloplex technology revealed a recurrent mosaic p.Gly406Arg missense mutation of the ...
Syndactyly is the most common congenital malformation of the limbs, with an incidence of 1 in 2000-3000 live births. Syndactyly can be classified as simple when it involves soft tissues only and classified as complex when it involves the bone or nail of adjacent fingers.
Syndactyly is a congenital condition in which two or more fingers or toes are joined together. Sydactyly of the toes is more common that syndactyly of t...
Oculodentodigital dysplasia (ODDD) is caused by mutations in the GJA1 gene, which encodes Gap junction alpha-1 protein also known as connexin-43. The majority of cases are autosomal dominant (MIM 164200), but ODDD can also be autosomal recessive (MIM 257850). ODDD is characterized by abnormalities of the face, eyes, dentination, and digits of hands and feet. Typical findings include long, narrow nose, hypoplastic nasal alae, microcornea, microphthalmia, short palpebral fissures, cataract, iris anomalies, and syndactyly of 4th - 5th fingers. Additional findings may include cardiac defects, conductive hearing loss, anomalies of the skin, hair and nails, and neurological manifestations such as paraparesis, ataxia, spasticity, dysarthria, seizures and neurogenic bladder.. Autosomal recessive mutations in the GJA1 gene can also cause hypoplastic left heart syndrome 1 (HLHS1; MIM 241550), which results from defective development of the aorta proximal to the entrance of the ductus arteriosus. ...
The hands of a fetus form between 26 and 54 days of gestation. Toward the end of that period, the hand is like a mitten. A cell signaling process occurs causing the webbing between the fingers to resorb and allowing the web spaces to form. In some fetuses, that signal to one of the web spaces doesnt occur, resulting in skin and sometimes bones left conjoined.. Aarskog-Scott syndrome is a rare disease inherited as X-linked and characterized by short stature, facial abnormalities, skeletal and genital anomalies. This condition mainly affects males, although females may have mild features of the syndrome. The Aarskog-Scott syndrome (AAS) is also known as the Aarskog syndrome, faciodigitogenital syndrome, shawl scrotum syndrome and faciogenital dysplasia. People with Aarskog-Scott syndrome often have distinctive facial features, such as widely spaced eyes (hypertelorism), a small nose, a long area between the nose and mouth (philtrum), and a widows peak hairline. They frequently have mild to moderate short stature during childhood, but their growth usually catches up with that of their peers during puberty. Hand abnormalities are common in this syndrome and include short fingers (brachydactyly), curved pinky fingers (fifth finger clinodactyly), webbing of the skin between some fingers (cutaneous syndactyly), and a single crease across the palm. Other ...

Great to see this on show ...I am 46 but had my fingers cut apart at age 3 - both hands had 3rd and 4th fingers , left hand up to nail and right hand 90% up. Also my 2nd and 3rd toes are joined about 20% up. My daughter has toes joined about 2/3 up similar to the blog photo. When i was very young my brother used to tell me i had stuck them with superglue. When people notice my scars ( i am told modern day procedures leave almost no scar) , I generally make some humour from it such as i had to get it done as i was making a lot of mistakes on the piano or i auditioned for Spock but I kept failing on the Live long and Prosper hand sign - anyway i need new material LOL. Tests for allelism among mice with four different mutant alleles at the shaker-with-syndactylism locus on mouse Chromosome (Chr) 18 provide evidence that the original radiation-induced mutation, sy, is a deletion including at least two genes associated with distinct phenotypes. Mice homozygous for sy have syndactylous feet and other skeletal malformations, are deaf, and exhibit abnormal behavior characteristic of vestibular dysfunction. Two less severe spontaneous mutations, shown to be allelic with sy, cause syndactylism when homozygous (hence named fused phalanges, sy(fp) and sy(fp-2J)), but do not affect hearing and behavior. Here we describe a third spontaneous mutation allelic with sy that does not affect foot morphology (hence named no syndactylism, sy(ns)), but that does cause deafness and balance defects when homozygous. Complementation test results indicate that sy(fp) and sy(fp-2J) are alleles of the same gene, but that sy(ns) is an allele of a different gene. The original sy
A photochemical reactor is divided into a first section suitable for containing a volume of fluid to be reacted and a second section having at least one light transmitting wall. A porous, high area, fiber webbing is mounted within the reactor so that at least a portion of the webbing is immersed in the fluid. The webbing is moved within the reactor so that the webbing is sequentially immersed in the fluid contained in the first reactor section and then moved to the second reactor section whereat the fluid attached to the webbing is exposed to light transmitted through the light transmitting wall.

The side pockets are tall with elastic at the top edge, although the elastic does not do very much. There is one waterproof zip down the side allowing access into the bottom of the main bag. This is covered by a compression strap - fortunately. There were plenty of webbing loops scattered across the pack body as well, and two ice axe attachments.. While most pack manufacturers have gone with 20 mm webbing, Lowe Alpine is one of the few who have chosen to use narrower webbing, with special narrow buckles to match. Given the solid thickness of the webbing, I dont think there are any strength concerns at all for the it, although the narrowness could place a little more load on the sewing at the anchor points. However, they have added reinforcing patches where needed, so that worry does not apply. Is there any difference in weight between this narrow but thicker webbing and a wider, light webbing made of grosgrain tape? I doubt it. I have used grosgrain tape on my packs for years with no problems. ...
Gerald J. Lenhard, Bugwood.org. Heavy infestations are related to long periods of high humidity. With a heavy infestation a thin webbing will become obvious on the trunk and branches. The small, ¼-inch long adult barklice can be found in herds under the webbing. The webbing does not interfere with photosynthesis and does not need to be removed since it primarily covers the trunk or branches, not the leaves.. Outbreaks of barklice are sporadic and most prevalent in the southern coastal plain of South Carolina. Since barklice are beneficial, it is best to just leave them alone. The webbing is thin and will wear off as the season progresses. While it is not necessary, a strong blast of water can be used to dislodge the webbing from a tree.. Millie ...

Fraser Island was named after Captain James Fraser and his wife Eliza who were shipwrecked off the islands west coast in 1836. They reached the island, but there are different versions of how the story continued. James Fraser died, either killed by Aboriginal people or because of starvation. Eliza survived and was soon rescued by a convict.
