Drs. LeGrys and Moon recently (August 2015) received funding from the Cystic Fibrosis (CF) Foundation for their VISTA (Variation in Sweat Testing Analysis) proposal. In addition to diagnosis, sweat chloride concentrations can be used to measure the response of CF patients to investigational drugs that target the defective gene in CF. VISTA will evaluate biological variability: how much change normally is observed in sweat chloride concentrations over time in the same person and between people. They will also determine analytical variation: the amount of change observed in sweat chloride concentration due to variations in the instrumentation used to analyze sweat. By combining the biological and analytical variation of sweat chloride which normally occurs with repeated tests in the same person, researchers and clinicians can determine the appropriate change which would indicate a response to drug therapy. My son was diagnosed with CF when he was 2 years old, as he went into the hospital with pneumonia and had 2 positive sweat test(70 & 72). SO after going to the doctor for this diagnosis of a disease I had never even heard about, and is definately not in my family, we started him on all the meds for CF. He was involved with all of this for one year, and then it came to the doctors attention that something was missing in his blood work for CF, the blood work that someone failed to look at i the beginning fo all of this. So anyhow we were sent to the Childrens Hospital in Toronto where they did some more sweat tests which still came back in the low 40s range, which puts hi at borderline. Here we are 6 years later, after nobody following up with him, and due to my probing, he is now being retested for CF. His last sweat test came back at (40) which is still borderline, but he has had no issues as far as weight or growth, or any other illnesses, he hasnt had any respiratory problems at all. Hi, Im 23 years old and Ive had nasal polyps for a couple of years and get a chest infection every now and again. I was recently sent for a sweat test as my ENT thought it was strange for me to have nasal polyps at such a young age. The results of the sweat test came back as a 58?
