TY - JOUR. T1 - The use of autologous buccal mucosa grafts in vaginal reconstruction. AU - Grimsby, Gwen M.. AU - Baker, Linda A.. PY - 2014/8. Y1 - 2014/8. N2 - Vaginal reconstruction can be challenging when there is a paucity of tissue, as the ideal donor source has yet to be determined. Many of the existing and commonly used techniques, such as vaginal replacement with skin grafts or bowel segments, have both advantages and disadvantages. A novel technique for vaginal replacement and reconstruction is with autologous buccal mucosa, an epithelium which is an excellent tissue match to the vagina. As urologists often have extensive experience with the use of oral mucosa for urethral reconstruction, it is fitting to apply these techniques to procedures where native vaginal tissue is lacking. This review presents the existing literature as well as the authors own experience with the use of autologous buccal mucosa for a variety of vaginal reconstructive procedures.. That subsequent litter size was affected by gilt age but not vaginal length indicates that gilt age is a better predictor of subsequent litter size than is vaginal length. It is often suggested that first litter size increases with breeding at successive estrus periods due to increasing ovulation rates. However, this effect is apparent only when gilts become pubertal at young ages and (or) light weights, suggesting that it is the increasing age and weight that mediates this effect.4 An alternative hypothesis is that, for young gilts, the effect of breeding at a later estrus period is mediated by an increasing uterine capacity driven by estrus-associated endocrine changes.. It was not possible in this study to directly examine the relationship between vaginal length and uterine size. However, previous authors examining this relationship have suggested that subsequent litter size is an effective indirect measure.1,2 The lack of effect of increasing vaginal length on litter size observed in the ...

AU - Rilke, F.. AU - Cerasoli, S.. AU - Colnaghi, M. I.. PY - 1986. Y1 - 1986. N2 - It has been proven that monoclonal antibodies which are not strictly tumor specific may be useful in clinical oncology for diagnosis and in in vitro therapy. These applications, however, are hampered by the heterogeneous expression on tumor cells of the epitopes defined by the majority of monoclonal antibodies produced so far. The use of combined monoclonals could complement their antitumor specificity and solve the problem. In this perspective we selected nine monoclonal antibodies directed against different antigens of primary and metastatic breast cancer cells. The reactivity of the pool of these nine monoclonals versus a single antibody (MBr1) was determined by immunofluorescence on tumor cell lines, on frozen sections of ...
TY - JOUR. T1 - Identification of molecules detected by three different anti-H-2Kk monoclonal antibodies. AU - ONeill, H C. PY - 1991/10. Y1 - 1991/10. N2 - Three different monoclonal antibodies specific for murine Class I H-2Kk-encoded determinants have been found to bind to molecules other than the classical 45 Kd Class I glycoprotein. These results were obtained after electrophoresis of a detergent lysate of spleen cells, and extraction of molecules present in multiple gel fractions. The antigenic activity in each gel fraction was assessed after removal of detergent by capacity to inhibit the binding of each of these antibodies to Ig-capped spleen cells in a rosetting assay. Only the H100-27R9 antibody was inhibited by an extract representing 45-50 Kd proteins resembling Class I molecules. This antibody also bound material extracted from a higher 65-70 Kd fraction of the gel. The binding of the 11-4.1 and H100-30R3 antibodies was inhibited by unique molecules in the molecular weight range of ...

AU - Pahwa, R.. AU - Good, R. A.. AU - Platsoucas, C. D.. PY - 1987. Y1 - 1987. N2 - We developed a monoclonal antibody (mAb) (9D7) against a synthetic peptide (P13K) selected from the deduced amino acid sequence of the constant region of the γ chain of the murine T-cell antigen receptor (TCR) (amino acids 118-130). Using this mAb, we identified a putative second TCR expressed on peripheral blood lymphocytes from a patient with severe combined immunodeficiency (SCID) that were propagated in culture with recombinant interleukin 2 (rIL-2) and Con A. This mAb immunoprecipitated two polypeptide chains of 40 and 58 kDa under nonreducing conditions and of 40 and 56 kDa under reducing conditions from 125I-labeled denatured lysates of T3+ WT31- lymphocytes expanded in culture from a SCID patient. The books narrator is Friday Jones (often going under cover name Marjorie Baldwin and using both surnames somewhat interchangeably). Friday is genetically engineered human (known as an Artificial Person or AP) in many ways mentally and physically superior to ordinary humans. There is great prejudice against APs so Friday conceals her status.. Employed as a highly self-sufficient combat courier in a quasi-military organization, travelling across the globe and to some of the near-Earth space colonies. Friday is returning from her latest mission when she is captured, tortured, raped and interrogated by an enemy group. She is then rescued by her own people, who tell her that her highly critical mission was in fact successful as her captors failed to find the data she was carrying in her body.. After recovering from the ordeal, Friday takes a vacation to visit her group family, composed of several husbands and wives and many children. In an argument over racism, Friday reveals to her family that ...

Primary antibodies are used to detect a target of interest by binding directly to an epitope on a protein within a sample. Any binding interaction between a primary antibody and the protein of interest is detected using a secondary antibody which will bind to the primary antibody, and thus the protein. Primary antibodies can be used in numerous applications such as Western blotting, Immunohistochemistry, Immunofluoresence, ELISA, and Lateral Flow. At Fitzgerald Industries we offer a range monoclonal antibodies and polyclonal antibodies in both conjugated and unconjugated forms.

AU - McCormick, Daniel J.. AU - Ryan, Robert J.. PY - 1989/8. Y1 - 1989/8. N2 - The amino acid sequences of human inhibin α-, βA- and βB-subunits were analyzed for hydrophilicity and chain flexibility to predict regions that are on the surface of the subunits and, therefore, are potential antigenic sites. Based on these analyses, a total of nine peptides were synthesized, and rabbit antisera against the peptides were prepared. Peptides of the N-terminus (residues 1-16 and 13-24) and region 109-123 of the a-subunit produced high titer antibodies. Regions 69-79 and 93-105 of the βB-subunit and region 93-104 of the βB-subunit were also immunogenic. Immunoblotting of an inhibin preparation with anti-a-peptide antiserum revealed that a 32K band (inhibin) and an 18K band (α-subunit) were stained. Immunoblotting ...

N2 - In recent studies of transgenic models of Alzheimers disease (AD), it has been reported that antibodies to aged beta amyloid peptide 1-42 (Aβ1-42) solutions (mixtures of Aβ monomers, oligomers and amyloid fibrils) cause conspicuous reduction of amyloid plaques and neurological improvement. In some cases, however, neurological improvement has been independent of obvious plaque reduction, and it has been suggested that immunization might neutralize soluble, non-fibrillar forms of Aβ. It is now known that Aβ toxicity resides not only in fibrils, but also in soluble protofibrils and oligomers. The current study has investigated the immune response to low ...

MTF genital surgery could imply a simple orchiectomy, but if we are talking about MTF vaginoplasty, a general comments can be made. The procedure is normally done under general anesthesia after important medical and psychological requirements are satisfied. The essential differences relate to how the vagina is fashioned. This could be a colonic vaginoplasty which involves allocating a segment of your lower colon or a freed scrotal graft or penile skin inversion with or without a scrotal graft extension, should a longer length be required. Some doctors use penile skin to form the labia minora. Another approach is based on an alternative idealization of the action of the electric current on cardiac tissue. Suppose, for simplicity and in the first approximation, that a reasonably spatially uniform electric field (say as produced by a transthoracic defibrillator) acts simultaneously and similarly on all cells in the tissue. Mathematically, that is equivalent to introduction into the model of a parameter that explicitly depends on time. Davydov et al.6 considered a simplified kinematic description of spiral waves and predicted that if the parameters of the model are changed periodically with a period close to the rotation period of the spiral wave, then the spiral exhibits large-scale wandering, which, in the case of a precise resonance, degenerates into a drift along a straight line (Fig. 2). This theoretical prediction was supported by numerical simulations of a piecewise linear FitzHugh-Nagumo model and then immediately confirmed by experiments in BZ reaction.7 Subsequent studies ...

The microflora of the penile skin-lined neovagina in male-to-female transsexuals is a recently created microbial niche which thus far has been characterized only to a very limited extent. Yet the knowledge of this microflora can be considered as essential to the follow-up of transsexual women. The primary objective of this study was to map the neo-vaginal microflora in a group of 50 transsexual women for whom a neovagina was constructed by means of the inverted penile skin flap technique. Secondary objectives were to describe possible correlations of this microflora with multiple patients characteristics, such as sexual orientation, the incidence of vaginal irritation and malodorous vaginal discharge. Based on Gram stain the majority of smears revealed a mixed microflora that had some similarity with bacterial vaginosis (BV) microflora and that contained various amounts of cocci, polymorphous Gram-negative and Gram-positive rods, often with fusiform and comma-shaped rods, and sometimes even with
In the current study, we mapped the molecular breakpoints in an MRKH female with a de novo 46,XX,t(3;16)(p22.3;p13.3)dn. A chromosomal microarray was used to narrow down the breakpoints of both derivative chromosomes to within 13.6 kb on der(3) and within 1.9 kb on der(16). No deletions/insertions were identified, which could have been potential confounders in this patient. No gene was directly disrupted, but the genes closest on either side of the breakpoint became prime positional candidate genes. We did not amplify and clone the breakpoints in this patient since the breakpoint region is not contained within a structural gene. TRIM71 (tripartite motif-containing 71) on the centromeric side of the breakpoint (Fig. 2) has been reported to be involved in the timing of organ formation during development [28], while CNOT10 on the telomeric side of the breakpoint is involved in transcription [29]. We did not identify mutations in our available sample of 51 MRKH patients in these genes, which ...

0041] Low-n, nanostructured ITO and other similar porous materials can be employed to significantly increase the reflectivity of a metal film on the back side of photovoltaic and optoelectronic devices. For example, as shown in FIG. 6, which is a graphical diagram that compares the calculated reflectivity spectrum of three types of ODR structures (lines 610, 620 and 630) to that of a metal film only (line 640) and uncoated GaAs (line 650). The graphical representation of FIG. 6 includes the reflectivity as a function of wavelength for porous ITO/silver ODR structure at line 610, for porous ITO/gold ODR structure at line 620, for porous ITO/aluminum ODR structure at line 630, for the metal film only structure at line 640 at the uncoated GaAs structure at line 650. These calculations assume internal reflections of photons attempting to pass out the back side of a semiconductor device. As shown, there is significantly increased internal reflectivity of the porous ITO structures as compared to the ...

The table of Judy Knights alleged genetic markers is fairly useless without context. I agree that having male haplogroup markers makes no sense as presumably Judy Knight is female and should lack a Y chromosome. There is a condition called CAIS (complete androgen insensitivity syndrome) that results from a defect in the RH gene. A person with CAIS is morphologically female due to the bodys inability to respond to androgens (male hormones), yet that person is actually a male despite having a female form. The catch here is that people with CAIS are infertile and apparently Judy Knight has produced offspring. I am not an expert, but I am not aware of another way to possess a Y chromosome needed to carry the markers cited in the table above and not be morphologically male ...

Antibodies against 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-coenzyme A reductase (HMGCR) have recently been associated with immune-mediated necrotizing myopathy, especially in patients with statin exposure. As the data are very limited concerning phenotypes and treatment in paediatric patients, we aimed to identify the paediatric patients positive ...

The Fontan surgery for single ventricle heart defects is a typical example of a clinical intervention in which patient-specific computational modeling can improve patient outcome: with the functional heterogeneity of the presenting patients, which precludes generic solutions, and the clear influence of the surgically-created Fontan connection on hemodynamics, it is acknowledged that individualized computational optimization of the post-operative hemodynamics can be of clinical value. A large body of literature has thus emerged seeking to provide clinically relevant answers and innovative solutions, with an increasing emphasis on patient-specific approaches. In this review we discuss the benefits and challenges of patient-specific simulations for the Fontan surgery, reviewing state of the art solutions and avenues for future development. We first discuss the clinical impact of patient-specific simulations, notably how they have contributed to our understanding of the link between Fontan ...

An atherectomy system for cutting, ingesting and removing an obstruction from within a patients artery, comprising a flexible guide-wire insertable into the artery, a flexible rotary-catheter rotatably disposed and slidable over the flexible guide-wire, a blade forming a distal end of the flexible rotary-catheter having teeth on its periphery which are bent inward, a continuous passage for ingesting the cut obstruction material between the flexible rotary-catheter and the flexible guide-wire, means at the proximal end of the flexible rotary-catheter for rotating it and positive displacement pump means connected to the continuous passage to pull the cut obstruction material proximally.
In no less than quite a few circumstances, atherosclerotic lesions are monoclonal, suggesting that Nowells legislation / all-natural collection operates inside their pathogenesis. This isnt surprising, Specially considering that (1) we now are aware that oxidized-LDL is mitogenic for macrophages, and (two) the smooth muscle mass with the aorta by itself is created of huge teams of clonal cells (Am. J. Path. 152: 913, 1998). Having said that, the outdated declare that each plaque occurs from an individual cell has now been amply refuted. Substantially operate now signifies that progression through the fatty streak to your fibrous plaque is at least partially the results of incorporation and Group of thrombi (* the Rokitansky theory, is smart). Most fibrous plaques are full of content that immunostains as fibrin (nevertheless This is often absent from standard artery or fatty streaks ...
Vaclav Treitz (1819-1872) was born in Bohemia, studied humanities at the Charles University in Prague, and obtained his medical degree there in 1846. Vaginoplasty is a procedure which involves the tightening of the loose muscles and tissues which are in the front or back of the vaginal walls, it is specifically done at the entry point to the vagina. Sometimes it is required to remove surfeit vaginal skin in order to decrease the diameter of the vagina. This procedure results in a smaller and tighter vaginal canal. The tightening of the vaginal walls can result in more satisfaction during intercourse due to higher friction. ...

A new opto-electronic drilling system detects minute changes during orthopedic surgery, allowing surgeons to correct drilling trajectories during the procedure itself. The system eliminates guide-wire bending or breakage and significantly reduces operation time and enhances safety.
Once the amount of tightening to be done is determined, a pie-shape wedge is marked to delineate the extra skin to be removed from inside the vagina. Beneath the skin, the tissues are tightened with strong sutures. Once the vaginal canal has been tightened, the mucosal skin is sutured closed. If there is external skin that protrudes, this can be reduced as well for a more aesthetic result.. ...
The present invention is directed to a device comprising a catheter tube, which includes a round opening and two platinum radio-opaque markers on its distal end; a guide-wire; a balloon, which includes a wedge-shaped opening; and a stent, which includes an elliptical-shaped opening and three platinum radio-opaque markers.
