On April 9, 2021, the Michigan Eta Emerging Chapter of Phi Delta Theta was formally inducted at Western Michigan University. Senior Expansion Consultant Greg Rush arrived in Kalamazoo, Michigan on January 12 to begin the recruitment efforts. In a time where very few students were present on campus, Greg was able to recruit twenty-nine men with a fixed and steadfast resolution to challenge the status quo, be positive representations of fraternity on campus, and to begin their journeys as men of Phi Delta Theta.. The first week on campus was uncomfortably slow; strict COVID-19 safety protocols were in place and many students opted to experience their spring semester remotely from home or spent the majority of their time in their own spaces on campus. Limited opportunity for on-campus visibility led to preliminary engagement by private messages through the projects social media channels. With little to do outside of the classroom and a burning desire to connect with more people and make the most ...

A hysterectomy is the surgical removal of the uterus and sometimes the ovaries and fallopian tubes as well. This is the second most common procedure for women in the United States. A hysterectomy stops the menstrual cycle and prevents pregnancy. It is a permanent procedure that cannot be reversed.. A traditional hysterectomy may be performed through incisions in either the abdomen or vagina. A newer technology is now available that allows for a simpler and less invasive procedure leaving the patient with less pain and a shorter recovery time.. A laparoscopic supracervical hysterectomy, or LSH, involves making tiny incisions in the abdomen. The doctor inserts a laparoscope, a thin lighted telescope, and other surgical instruments through these incisions to carefully separate and then remove the uterus. Unlike other hysterectomies, LSH leaves the cervix intact. This can reduce the risk of later complications such as pelvic floor prolapse and urinary incontinence.. ...

To our knowledge, this study represents the first evaluation of a tobacco use registry used in a fashion similar to other chronic disease registries and reporting positive provider behaviors. Multiple corroborating pieces of evidence demonstrate that the use of the tobacco use registry decision support tool resulted in significant changes (a 2- to 4-fold increase) in the adoption of evidenced-based tobacco use treatments (counseling and pharmacotherapy). In many cases these increases are far beyond those achieved with other system-based interventions.18 While others have reported the impact of different delivery modes in the provision of the 5 As in the primary care setting, the studies have not included the application of a chronic disease registry or the use of broad measures associated with tobacco use, such as pneumococcal vaccine.13 Our tobacco registry form included depression screening prompts, which also were included in the other chronic disease registries.14 We have not reported on ...
This dissertation focuses on what it means to think that or to think whether something is the case. First, I show that the type of clause that think combines with makes a difference in the kind of attitude a thought report ascribes, and in the kind of eventuality that it describes. With a declarative complement, think entails belief and introduces an eventuality description that may (but need not be) stative. With a question complement, think introduces an eventuality description that is necessarily dynamic, and often deliberative. In this case, there is no entailment of belief, but one of agnosticism and curiosity about the answer to the embedded question. This, and a second generalization that governs the attitude related and the aspectual properties of think that and of think whether hold cross-linguistically. Second, I attempt to square the observation that think whether is grammatical and necessarily dynamic with two recent proposals that predict that think should be ungrammatical with embedded

An audit carried out by Audit General for Scotland (2018) and The Accounts Commission on Children and Young Peoples Mental Health states Children living in low income households are three times more likely to suffer mental health problems than their more affluent peers (Audit General for Scotland and The Accounts Commission, 2018). Due to the area in which this enquiry is being carried out being an area of deprivation, it is a suitable opportunity to take part in a Practitioner Enquiry to assess impact on the learning environment. In order to do this it was decided to look at the underlying factors relating to mental health within the education system. The Scottish Governments mental health strategy focuses on early intervention and prevention, however this is limited and mental health services are stretched and must respond to crisis first (The Scottish Government (2017) and Audit General for Scotland and The Accounts Commission, 2018). According to Denise Coias initial ...

Mortality statistics remain the least ambiguous measure of significant illness, certainly beyond youth and early middle age. Therefore, when testing the validity of any supposed predictor of health, its association with mortality will be an acid test and many of the recent reports on the relationship between socio-economic status and health have used mortality data [1-17]. These late 20th century studies confirm what had been detected in the 19th century [18] - that poor socio-economic circumstances are associated with reduced life span. But our understanding of the mechanisms involved remains defective, perhaps because there is no way of relating the many different, and often proxy, measures of socio-economic status: social standing lacks the definitude of death. Researchers have used occupational role [19], levels of educational attainment [12], ad hoc combinations of occupation, home and car ownership [20], refined indices such as that of Carstairs [21] or of Townsend [1], and so-called ...

Mind is today responding to new research from HSJ magazine which finds worrying cuts to mental health services.. Geoff Heyes, Policy & Campaigns Manager for the mental health charity Mind, said:. Mental health services are facing a crisis. Although the Government has committed to ensuring that mental health services are given equal priority to physical health services, we are still nowhere near seeing this on the ground. At a time when we need to see funding for mental health trusts increase, a cut of 2.3 per cent in real terms is unacceptable. There is absolutely no room for belt-tightening in mental health services, not least because they have always been chronically underfunded and seen as an easy target for cuts. But right now demand is rising right across the system, from talking therapies to crisis care, and services are creaking under the pressure.. Cutting services to make savings in the short term is short-sighted. If we dont give people with mental health problems the support they ...

Governances, structures and contents of mental health services are being reformed across countries. There is a need for data to support those changes. The aim of this study was to explore the quality, i.e., diversity and community orientation, and quantity, i.e., personnel resources, of mental health and substance abuse services (MHS) and evaluate correlation between population needs and quality and quantity of MHS. The European Service Mapping Schedule-Revised (ESMS-R) was used to classify mental health and substance abuse services in southern Finland. Municipal-level aggregate data, local data on unemployment rate, length of education, age of retirement, proportion of single households, alcohol sales and a composite mental health index were used as indicators of population mental health needs. Population size correlated strongly with service diversity, explaining 84% of the variance. Personnel resources did not associate with diversity or community orientation. The indicators of mental health ...
This study found that overall, 10% of children in NYC received counseling after the September 11th attacks but that only 27% of children with severe or very severe PTSR received these services. Although children with severe or very severe PTSR were more likely to receive mental health services than children with less severe reactions, these data suggest that there may be extensive unmet need among the children who were most affected by the September 11th attacks at the time of this study, 4 months after these attacks. It will be important to monitor the level of unmet needs as more counseling services are put into place in the school systems, as part of NYCs Project Liberty,5,18 and elsewhere.. Our findings of disparity between need, as indicated by severe or very severe PTSR, and receipt of mental health services are consistent with a study of NYC school children, which showed that only 34% of those with probable PTSD and impaired functioning in the months after the September 11th attacks ...
December 7, 2009. People with severe mental illness can get well and stay well. Its an idea the patients taught the professionals, not the other way around. At first, the professionals ignored us; then they fought us.. Now, recovery-based mental health services are national policy, and recovery is widely acceptable as an achievable goal by governments, agencies, consumers and mental health professionals.. New Hampshire used to have the most recovery-friendly mental health system in the country, but other states have caught up. New Hampshire has either stalled or slipped into reverse.. My bipolar disorder has been in my rearview mirror for 30 years, thanks to medicine, psychotherapy, support from friends and fellow survivors, and lifestyle adjustments. Medicine stopped me from being sick, but I learned to make myself well. Except for a lucky few, medicine alone is not enough.. Until 1995, I just took medicine, and that allowed me to pull my weight at a daily newspaper. I thought that was as ...
Crossley & Jones article on shame and acute psychiatric in-patient care1 was of great interest as the themes discussed are pertinent to the psychodynamic group we facilitate in a community rehabilitation service (an open group for patients with psychosis). The patients frequently bring up shame about their illness in different ways. The superordinate themes they identified are persistent themes within our group.. Patients talk about feeling looked at differently by the public when on the streets or using public transport. They question this, wondering whether people can tell that they have a mental illness or whether they are paranoid. Avoiding potential feelings of shame has led to self-isolation and loss of independence for several of our patients.. Patients describe their loss of adulthood and autonomy, especially when admitted to hospital. Their accounts of being cared for by mental health services are full of shameful experiences, such as being restrained. They notice the distance ...

Josh Scheidler 18 recently completed his Master of Arts in English from Western Michigan University (WMU). He credits a large part of his success to his time and the relationships he built at Olivet.. My major was in writing and my minor was in English, Josh said. Together, they helped prepare me for the amount of writing and research I would be doing in my graduate program. My grad program offered me a lot of new perspectives and a lot of new and exciting ways to think about texts, language and different rhetorics. Joshs graduate studies had a focus on medieval literature and language, but he has had an interest in writing since 2008. I chose Olivet because it was close to home and they offered a great writing program. It is a beautiful community where everyone seemed to know one another.. Josh took a nontraditional route to earning his bachelors degree. He began at Olivet College as a transfer student and veteran. He had learned about OC while in high school and when the time was ...
John 10:20-33. Know that the Lord is God; it is he that has made us and we are his. We are his people and the sheep of his pasture. Psalm 100:2. I have many memories of the Dutch Calvinist home in western Michigan in which I grew up. One of those memories is of a framed piece of calligraphy which still hangs in the family room. Written there was a quotation from the Heidelberg Catechism, an explanation of Reformed faith that is organized into 52 sections, conveniently called Lords Days, so that the preacher could preach on one section each week throughout the year. And he did - every Sunday morning!. This quotation was of the first question and answer from the Catechism. What is your only comfort in life and in death? the catechism asks. It then goes on to offer an answer: That I am not my own, but belong - body and soul, in life and in death - to my faithful Savior Jesus Christ. Our only comfort in life and in death, the catechism maintains, is that we belong to Christ. We are Gods own ...

All of the spending areas above will be affected by the spending review but in different ways.. Council tax. Council tax is the safest source of local government revenue as councils know that it is not going to get cut. But its growth will almost certainly be restricted.. Each year, the government sets a council tax increase limit beyond which councils must hold a referendum to enable them to sanction the higher increase. This year the referendum threshold was 2% so rises of this level and above required a positive referendum vote or could not go ahead. Only one referendum was held this year, by Bedfordshire Police, and it was roundly rejected. It would be surprising if the government permitted a higher referendum threshold for 2016-17 or for the rest of the spending review period.. The other way in which government has limited council tax increases is by giving councils a grant in return for freezing rates. This year the grant paid was equivalent to a 1% rise in council tax.. Overall, in ...

The decline in physical examination skills among medical students and resident physicians is concerning.1 The devolution in these skills goes hand in hand with widespread doubts about the utility of the physical exam in modern medicine. Reflecting on the underpinnings of diagnosis and clinical reasoning offers insight to reestablish the exams importance in modern medicine.. Bayesian analysis is the bedrock of medical diagnosis and reasoning.2 The raw material of Bayesian analysis are data, which sway the individual towards or away from a conclusion. A Bayesian approach requires one both to efficiently collect data and to know how to weigh the collected clues. Consequently, we have a twofold suggestion based on the principles of Bayesian analysis for resurrecting physical observation.. First, teach trainees to collect data efficiently and thoroughly. Bayesian analysis relies upon specific and accurate information to argue for or against an eventuality. Unfamiliarity makes for inefficient and ...

As can be seen, the plan of the founders of the St. John the Baptiste Society, however simple it may appear to be, is susceptible of splendid developments; also, without ever ceasing to be, for all our compatriots, a rallying point, our Society has exerted its influence and its activity in the most different forms and in the most varied spheres. But almost always it has hold on to the honour of manifesting its existence and its vitality each year by celebrating, on June 24, the feast of its glorious patron, by more or less enthusiastic displays, but which never failed to have repercussions. Like all human institutions, the St. John the Baptiste Society had its good days and its bad days; but it triumphed over difficulties and obstacles, and those who were faithful to it, in its tests as in its more beautiful triumphs, nobly proved the utility of its mission. No! the St. John the Baptiste Society was not an ephemeral enterprise inspired by yesterdays events to ward off the eventualities of ...

Part of politics is having to prepare for every eventuality. So even before a vote had been cast last week, Gordon Brown had several drafts of statements - win, lose or draw - that he would make once the result became clear.. Even the draw drafts, as it turned out, did not really cover the unclear situation which developed, which is why a new statement had to be made, the one he made in Downing Street on Friday.. But it did mean that when it came to the words he spoke yesterday before heading to see The Queen to tender his resignation, he already had a draft he could work on. When it came to it, as is often the case with politicians and big moments, he sat at his own desk and wrote the final version himself. Even his biggest opponents would be hard pressed to say he did not capture the moment well.. Though he was leaving as Prime Minister, and knew it was a moment in history, he also set great store by the speech he made to Labour Party staff after returning to Party HQ from Buckingham Palace. ...
Re: Janes Superhumans. In a tongue in cheek campaign it can work the other way too, political figures can become supers.. After the assassination attempt in 1981, a secret cabal within the Republican National Committee resolved, rather than have the moderate George Bush (coiner of the term voodoo economics) become president should a future assassin succeed where Hinkley had failed, that they would break open The Vault of Alien and Suppressed Technologies to create a replica of the Gipper to take his place in such an eventuality. Cell samples were taken, and rushed to a secret lab in the Nevada desert. VAST knowledge was accessed, and a clone body was force-grown to adulthood. But not just a plain old clone body! That would leave the President vulnerable... so certian improvements were incorporated. The plotters then arranged to record President Reagans engram, without his knowledge, for later imprintation onto the super replica body. Unfortunately, the only partially understood alien Engram ...
Overthinking can get such bad press. Some reports have overthinking linked to anxiety and depression but it doesnt have to be that way. The problem with categorising yourself as an over thinker is that life is never black and white. You might also identify as a lateral thinker (thinking outside the box) but youll also be able to think vertically (using a logical process) and vice versa. We may have tendencies towards one more than the other but we can still access both thought processes.. Sometimes we overthink and sometimes we under think. I know which one I would rather do more often! The successful people I have studied reside in the overthinking category. In fact, their overthinking IS the very reason for their success in most cases.. Having the ability to be able to thoroughly think things through is a great advantage for any large decision. If you wish to set goals and you want to achieve more, then your ability to analyse and strategize is of utmost importance. Every eventuality should ...

3) you have vigorously defended the banking sector from a shareholders perspective which is appropriate and warranted. However, I fear you may also be succumbing to myopia in your analysis. The fact that banks maintain profitability through a combination of exploitation of weak fiscal/monetary policy, exorbitant user fees on a static customer pool and high net worth segmentation, confirms both the unsustainability of such an approach as well as jeopardizing future profitability. You as a shareholder should be especially vigilant against such an eventuality! As is obvious, political pressure and regulatory overkill are GUARANTEED, in retaliation for perceived corporate abuse. Banks will continue to be a convenient whipping post, both for politicians as well as the general public. The constant antagonism at some point becomes counterproductive to their long term interests especially since they will be forced to change either through legislation or competition. Always better to effect change on ...
