The South Australia government announced its energy plan in March 2017.. Neoen and Tesla approached the State Government with their bold plan to deliver this project, and they have met all of their commitments, ensuring South Australia has back up power this summer, he added.. South Australia, which relies heavily on solar and wind-generated energy, has been scrambling to find a way to bolster its fragile power grid since the entire state suffered a blackout during a storm past year.. Having a dispatchable supply of renewable energy also means that Neoen now has the opportunity to sign competitive long term contracts with medium-sized business directly. We are proud to be part of South Australias renewable energy future, and hope this project provides a model for future deployments around the world.. Some have called the battery a Hollywood solution, which likely stems from the flashy nature of the batterys creation in a country that does still rely partly on fossil fuels.. blockquote{ ...

Before the 1890s when there was no formal party system in South Australia, MPs tended to have historical liberal or conservative beliefs. The liberals dominated government from the 1893 election to 1905 election with the support of the South Australian United Labor Party, with the conservatives mostly in opposition. Labor took government with the support of eight dissident liberals in 1905 when Labor won the most seats for the first time. The rise of Labor saw non-Labor politics start to merge into various party incarnations. The two independent conservative parties, the Australasian National League (formerly National Defence League) and the Farmers and Producers Political Union merged with the Liberal and Democratic Union to become the Liberal Union in 1910. Labor formed South Australias first majority government after winning the 1910 state election, triggering the merger. The 1910 election came two weeks after federal Labor formed Australias first elected majority government at the 1910 ...

South Australia as a whole received 77% of the long term average rainfall throughout 2012 (i.e., 23% below normal), the lowest since 2006. While parts of the northeast pastoral received above average rainfall, totals for the year were below average across large areas of the agricultural districts.. The most significant rainfall event for the year was observed between the 27th of February and the 4th of March as a low pressure surface trough combined with a slow moving upper level trough and a moist tropical airmass over the northeast of the state. This system produced heavy rainfall with new daily and multi-day rainfall records at a number of locations across north-eastern districts. Marree (Mundowdna Station) received 125.6 mm on February 29, which was the wettest day of the year for any location in South Australia. Further details on this event are available in Special Climate Statement 39.. For cropping areas, April to October growing season rainfall averaged across the agricultural districts ...

The South Australian State government has announced it will end its contract with Victorian company Ripe Intelligence after an app intended to provide real-time, relevant and personalised event and warning information repeatedly failed to do so.. A weekend heatwave put South Australia on the highest level of bushfire alert, catastrophic, but the Alert SA app failed to warn residents of several bushfires burning in the states southeast.. Ripe Intelligence first delivered the app to the South Australian state government in 2015 under an AU$250,000 annual contract. Government endorsement saw the app win around 170,000 users.. Problems first emerged in October 2017, when the app failed due to what emergency services minister Chris Picton called a data error. At the time, 43 fires burned across the state, some of which threatened property.. Picton called that outage unacceptable, but said the failure was attributable to data from government agencies rather than problems with the app ...

BACKGROUND: Research in the last decade has shown changing exposure patterns to discretionary fluorides and declining prevalence of fluorosis among South Australian children, raising the question of how risk factors for fluorosis have changed.. OBJECTIVE: To examine and compare risk factors for fluorosis among representative samples of South Australian children in 1992/1993 and 2002/2003.. METHODS: Similar sampling strategies and data collection methods were employed in the Child Fluoride Study (CFS) Marks 1 (1992/1993) and 2 (2002/2003). Participants in each CFS round were examined for fluorosis using the Thylstrup and Fejerskov (TF) Index. Exposure history was collected for fluoride in water, toothpaste, fluoride supplements and infant formula, allowing for a fluorosis risk assessment analysis. Data were re-weighted to represent the child population at each time. Changes in prevalence of fluorosis, defined as having a TF score of 1+ on maxillary central incisors, fluoride exposure and risk ...

BACKGROUND: Oxalate nephrosis is a highly prevalent disease in the Mount Lofty Ranges koala population in South Australia, but associated clinicopathologic findings remain undescribed. OBJECTIVES: The aims of this study were to determine plasma biochemical and urinalysis variables, particularly for renal function and urinary crystal morphology and composition, in koalas with oxalate nephrosis. METHODS: Blood and urine samples from Mount Lofty Ranges koalas with oxalate nephrosis were compared with those unaffected by renal oxalate crystal deposition from Mount Lofty and Kangaroo Island, South Australia and Moggill, Queensland. Plasma and urine biochemistry variables were analyzed using a Cobas Bio analyzer, and urinary oxalate by high-performance liquid chromatography. Urinary crystal composition was determined by infrared spectroscopy and energy dispersive X-ray analysis. RESULTS: Azotemia (urea , 6.6 mmol/L, creatinine , 150 μmol/L) was found in 93% of koalas with oxalate nephrosis (n = 15). ...

English ornithologist John Latham described the boobook owl as Strix boobook in 1801, writing about it in English,[4] before giving it its scientific name,[5] taking its species epithet from a local Dharug word for the bird.[2][6] The species description was based on a painting by Thomas Watling of a bird-the holotype-in the Sydney district in the 1790s.[2] John Gould described Athene marmorata in 1846 from a specimen in South Australia;[7] this is regarded as a synonym.[2] German naturalist Johann Jakob Kaup classified the two taxa into subgenus Spiloglaux of a new genus Ieraglaux in 1852, renaming S. boobook to Ieraglaux (Spiloglaux) bubuk.[8] In his 1865 Handbook to the Birds of Australia, Gould recognised three species, all of which he placed in the genus Spiloglaux: S. marmoratus from South Australia, S. boobook, which is widespread across the Australian mainland and Tasmania, and S. maculatus from southeastern Australia and Tasmania.[9] Meanwhile, in India, English naturalist Brian ...
Adelaide, South Australia: Today. When countless people around the world mark International Multiple Chemical Sensitivity/MCS Awareness Day on May 12, (& for the entire month of May), many will be doing so from the forced confinement of their own home, like 39 year old South Australian MCS sufferer, Amelia Hill, who has been isolated from the outside world due to severe Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS) & Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) for almost 6 years.. People with Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS) are made sick by exposures to low levels of many common chemicals - such as perfume, pesticides, tobacco smoke, air fresheners, cleaning products, solvents and VOCs found in paint, new carpets, building materials. Many of these chemicals at high levels, can make anyone sick, but chemically sensitive people can become extremely ill after exposures to even minute amounts of these substances (1). Nucleotide variation in a portion of the mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit1 (cox1) gene from asexual stages of bucephalids of southern Australian scallops (Chlamys asperrima, Chlamys bifrons and Pecten fumatus) was investigated using a mutation scanning-sequencing approach. Single-strand conformation polymorphism (SSCP) analysis revealed three main profile types (A, B and C) for parasites isolated from scallops. Sequence analysis revealed that samples represented by profiles B and C had a high degree (97.3%) of sequence similarity, whereas they were ~21% different in sequence from those represented by profile A. These findings suggested that at least two types or species (represented by profile A, or profile B or C) of bucephalid infect scallops, of which both were detected in South Australia, while only one was found in Victoria. The prevalence of bucephalids (and their SSCP haplotypes) appeared to differ among the three species of scallop in South Australia as well as between the two ...

The preparation is essential for the success of a criminal case - more than 95% of the case is covered when the lawyer prepares well for the case. That is why you need to choose a lawyer who has enough time to devote to your case. The potential law firm should be a member of the Criminal Defence Service. The firm should have a contract with the Legal Services Commission in order to offer publicly funded criminal defence services. Among the challenges for rural communities and health services in Australia, climate change and increasing extreme heat are emerging as additional stressors. Effective public health responses to extreme heat require an understanding of the impact on health and well-being, and the risk or protective factors within communities. This study draws on lived experiences to explore these issues in eleven rural and remote communities across South Australia, framing these within a socio-ecological model. Semi-structured interviews with health service providers (n = 13), and a thematic analysis of these data, has identified particular challenges for rural communities and their health services during extreme heat. The findings draw attention to the social impacts of extreme heat in rural communities, the protective factors (independence, social support, education, community safety), and challenges for adaptation (vulnerabilities, infrastructure, community demographics, housing and local industries). Fairness & Accuracy In Reporting (FAIR) ranked Robert Spencer as the second leading Islamophobe in the country, losing out the number one position to his boss and financier David Horowitz. Former Nixon advisor Robert Crane calls out Spencer as the principal leader…in the new academic field of Islam-bashing. Even though Horowitz can be credited with funding the modern day online Crusade against Islam, it is Robert Spencer who fights on the online battlefield, attacking his Muslim foes and their liberal dhimmi allies. In order to bolster his credibility, Spencer and his allies not only claim that he is a scholar, but his own website touts him as the acclaimed scholar of Islam. Because these words are boldly emblazoned on his own site, we can only assume that he takes such claims seriously. It is thus fair game to call him to task for this.. His claims notwithstanding, Robert Spencer simply does not possess any scholarly credentials. To be seriously considered a scholar in the academic world ...

Previous post: Ecotourism in Minca, Colombia, Riding out the Plague where East meets West. Baudin Beach is a locality in the Australian state of South Australia located on Dudley Peninsula on the north coast of Kangaroo Island about 115 kilometres (71 miles) south of the capital city of Adelaide and about 12 kilometres (7.5 miles) west of Penneshaw. To make matters worse, the only road that links Coffs Harbour with Emerald Beach (the most adjacent settlement to the headlands) is a highway, which means that biking is out of the question. On the western side of Kangaroo Island, Flinders Chase National Park is a large natural sanctuary for many species of native Australian animals, like rare tammar wallabies and the elusive platypus. Downloadable (with restrictions)! We use a computable general equilibrium model in an explanation of the recent rapid growth in Australias trade, particularly intra-industry trade. Relative to previous studies of trade growth based on multiple regression analysis, our approach allows us to: (i) work at a detailed industry level; (ii) use primary variables to represent changes in technology and preferences rather than proxies; and (iii) use a framework based on explicit microeconomic foundations. We find that most of the growth in Australias trade relative to GDP is explained by changes in technology and preferences. TUESDAY, April 21, 2020 (HealthDay News) -- Young adults may be waiting too long to seek help for eating disorders, a new study suggests.. Researchers surveyed 300 young adults, ages 18-25, in Australia. They found the majority had eating, weight or body shape concerns.. Concerningly, only a minority of people with eating disorder symptoms had sought professional help and few believed they needed help despite the problems they were experiencing, said study co-author Dan Fassnacht. Hes a psychology lecturer at Flinders University in Adelaide, South Australia. Reasons for not getting professional care include denial, concerns about losing control of their eating or weight, and not understanding the severity of their eating disorder.. Feeling embarrassed or fearing that others dont believe eating disorders are real illnesses even prevented young adults with symptoms of anorexia or bulimia from seeking help, Fassnacht said in a university news release. Both are potentially life-threatening ...

It is in this time of change that role extension within health disciplines is seen as an important tool to meet some of these
