Our fear is that Libya falls into the hands of Salafist terrorists and that the state becomes like Somalia, Niger President Mahamadou Issoufou PARIS, Dec 6 (Reuters) - Libya risks becoming a failed state like Somalia, Niger President Mahamadou Issoufou said on Friday, a day after gunmen shot dead an American teacher in the eastern city of Benghazi.. Niger, which adjoins Libya to the south and has fought Islamists at home, wants to reinforce military ties with Western partners and neighbouring states as al Qaeda-linked militants regroup in southern Libya after French-led forces ousted them from Mali this year.. Our fear is that Libya falls into the hands of Salafist terrorists and that the state becomes like Somalia, Issoufou told reporters ahead of a Franco-African summit in Paris.. Sadly, were seeing that the terrorists are there and that armed Salafist militia are in Benghazi, with people being killed almost every day. We must stabilise Libya.. As of 2016, more than 1.1 million Somali refugees were hosted in the region, mainly in Kenya, Yemen, Egypt, Ethiopia, Djibouti, and Uganda, while more than 1.1 million Somalis were internally displaced. Since the implementation of a tripartite voluntary repatriation agreement among Kenya, Somalia, and the UNHCR in 2013, nearly 40,000 Somali refugees have returned home from Kenyas Dadaab refugee camp - still houses to approximately 260,000 Somalis. The flow sped up rapidly after the Kenyan Government in May 2016 announced its intention to close the camp, worsening security and humanitarian conditions in receiving communities in south-central Somalia. Despite the conflict in Yemen, thousands of Somalis and other refugees and asylum seekers from the Horn of Africa risk their lives crossing the Gulf of Aden to reach Yemen and beyond (often Saudi Arabia). Bossaso in Puntland overtook Obock, Djibouti, as the primary departure point in mid-2014 ...

Statement by H. E. Mr. Mohamed Siad Doualeh Ambassador, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Djibouti to the United Nations Before the Security Council On the Situation in Somalia Thursday 13 April 2017
As the Horn of Africa - including Ethiopia, Somalia, Kenya, and Djibouti - faces its worst drought in over 50 years, thousands of Somali refugees seek shelter in the capital city of Mogadishu and in refugee camps in northeastern Kenya and southeastern Ethiopia. The Dadaab refugee camps in Kenya have swelled to a population of over 400,000, as Somalis walk for 15 to 20 days prior to arrival in search of food and water. The Dolo Ado camp in Ethiopia continues to see an average of 200-300 Somalis arrive each day. In just the past 2 months, facing imminent starvation and death, an estimated 220,000 have fled their drought-stricken farms.. The situation in the Horn of Africa continues to worsen with confirmed cases of cholera and dengue in Somalia (including Mogadishu) and measles outbreaks in refugee camps (with the hardest hit being the Dolo Ado camp in Ethiopia). The United Nations (UN) has warned that the situation could become unbearable, as the famine is expected to spread throughout southern ...
There are an estimated ninety to a hundred million women and girls living today in African countries that have had some form of female circumcision (Lane and Rubinstein 1996). Recent articles in the media have reported the growing practice of female circumcision in the US and Europe, among immigrants from countries where it is part of the culture. Circumcision occurs for a number of cultural reasons, such as religion, tradition, preserving virginity, and cultural identification. However, the practice of severe forms of female circumcision is now proven to be a great health risk, and the women of the societies that still practice female circumcision risk severe health problems. This paper reviews the practice of female circumcision and proposes a plan to reduce the use of harmful forms of circumcision, and consequently, the health problems associated with it

The recruits gather in scorching desert hideouts, use portraits of President Obama for target practice, learn how to make and detonate bombs, and vow allegiance to Osama bin Laden. Training camps in the lawless nation of Somalia are attracting hundreds of foreigners, including Americans, and Somalis recruited by a local insurgent group linked to al Qaeda, according to local and U.S. officials. American officials and private analysts say the camps pose a security threat far beyond the borders of Somalia, including to the U.S. homeland.
Following an attack in early January on a merchant vessel 260 miles off the Somali Coast, twelve men suspected of committing an act of piracy, were today transferred by EU Naval Force warship FS Surcouf to the Mauritian authorities for prosecution.. When the attack happened on 5th January, the master of the merchant vessel sent out a distress call reporting that he and his crew were coming under attack by six men in a fast moving boat, armed with rocket propelled grenades. Thankfully, having employed avoidance tactics, the merchant vessel was able to repel the attack.. Upon hearing the distress call, NATO warship USS Halyburton, operating as part of NATOs counter piracy operation - Ocean Shield, and on patrol 80 nautical miles away, launched her helicopter and was able to quickly locate a suspect boat - which was by now towing another vessel, with several men on board.. July 28, 2009 Eastern Ethiopia hosts a substantial number of refugees originated from Somalia. Female genital mutilation (FGM) is a common practice in the area, despite the campaigns to eliminate it. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 492 respondents sampled from three refugee camps in Somali Regional State, Eastern Ethiopia, to determine the prevalence and associated factors of FGM. Data were collected using pre-tested structured questionnaires. Results: Although the intention of the parents to circumcise their daughters was high (84%), 42.4% of 288 [less than or equal to]12 girls were reported being undergone FGM. The prevalence increased with age, and about 52% and 95% were circumcised at the age of 7-8 and 11-12 years, respectively. Almost all operations were performed by traditional circumcisers (81%) and birth attendants (18%). Clitoral cutting (64%) and narrowing of the vaginal opening through stitching (36%) were the two common forms of FGM reported by the respondents. ...
Khat use among Somalis in four English cities - UK Home Office report - Free download as PDF File (.pdf), Text File (.txt) or read online for free. Khat (also known or spelt as qat, jaad, qaat or chat) is a plant most commonly grown in Eastern African or Middle Eastern countries. Its leaves are chewed for their stimulant effect mostly by people from these regions. Khat itself is legal in the UK, however the two main active ingredients (cathine and cathinone) are Class C controlled substances, under the Misuse of Drugs Act (1971). The use of khat has a long-standing history within the Somali culture in particular. Before the civil war, khat chewing was a traditional social activity in Somalia and would bring people together for relaxation and to stimulate conversation (Ismail and Home, 2005). Khat use would normally be restricted to particular times of the day and session length. Some people also chewed khat in order to remain alert for studying or work reasons. Attitudes towards khat use vary

Large nutritional crises, always a man-made disaster, killed nearly 75 million people in the 20th century, but had virtually disappeared in recent decades. Today, in an era of declining poverty and hunger worldwide [4], the United Nations (UN) have recently declared famine in South Sudan [5] and launched a common appeal to raise funds for also three other countries at risk of famine. According to the UN Humanitarian Chief the world faces the largest food crises in 70 years, with more than 10 million people in four countries - north-eastern Nigeria, Somalia, South Sudan and Yemen - on the brink of famine, and a further 30 million severely food insecure [6].. Overall, there is no consensus of the definition of famine among humanitarian agencies and organisations globally [7]. MSF teams on the ground in Nigeria, Somalia, South Sudan and Yemen are seeing distinct conditions that are not fully comparable. However, there is a common denominator: political crises and protracted armed conflicts have ...
Despite fierce opposition, Tunisia has been added to the European blacklist of third countries thought to be at high risk of money laundering and terrorist financing.. Despite intense efforts by some MEPs, they failed to achieve the 376-vote absolute majority needed to reject the inclusion of Tunisia, Sri Lanka, and Trinidad and Tobago to the European Commissions list of non-EU countries considered to have strategic deficiencies in their anti-money laundering and terrorism financing regimes.. The vote on Wednesday reflected the split in Parliament over the issue, with 357 votes in support of the motion, to 283 votes against, and 26 abstentions.. MEPs who tabled the motion focused their opposition on the inclusion of Tunisia. They believe the addition of the North African country is undeserved; that it is a burgeoning democracy in need of support and that the listing fails to recognise the recent steps it has taken to strengthen its financial system against criminal activity. The other two ...

Khomeini accordingly delivered notorious rebuke to the Islam-is-a-religion-of-peace crowd: Those who know nothing of Islam pretend that Islam counsels against war. Those [who say this] are witless. Islam says: Kill all the unbelievers just as they would kill you all! Does this mean that Muslims should sit back until they are devoured by [the unbelievers]? Islam says: Kill them, put them to the sword and scatter [their armies].... Islam says: Whatever good there is exists thanks to the sword and in the shadow of the sword! People cannot be made obedient except with the sword! The sword is the key to Paradise, which can be opened only for the Holy Warriors! There are hundreds of other [Quranic] psalms and Hadiths [sayings of the Prophet] urging Muslims to value war and to fight. Does all this mean that Islam is a religion that prevents men from waging war? I spit upon those foolish souls who make such a claim ...

Refugees crossing oceans to flee war and famine have to contend with the risks drowning, dehydration and other perils on their journey. Now add Apache helicopters to the list.. On Friday, an Apache military helicopter reportedly opened fire on a boat packed with over 140 Somali migrants off the coast of Yemen.. Forty-two people were killed in the attack, according to the U.N. Refugee Agency (UNHCR). All 42 were reportedly carrying official U.N. refugee papers. Eighty survivors were rescued from the water after the attack and taken to a detention center in Hodieda, Yemen, the International Organization for Migrations Laurent De Boeck told AP. He added the IOM is liaising with hospitals to ensure the survivors get the care they need.. The boat, filled with refugees attempting to flee war-torn Yemen including women and children, had made it about 30 miles offshore when a helicopter swooped in and opened fire. Over the past few years, the flow of refugees from the Horn of Africa has continued to rise. Unlike the years prior to 2009 more people have arrived from Ethiopia than from Somalia (2010: 2-to-1 ratio). Nevertheless, Somali nationals still constitute the bulk of refugees and migrants in Yemen. According to the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), Somali nationals account for half of the 300,000 refugees officially registered by the UNHCR (the actual figures appear to be higher, however).. People are fleeing the ongoing conflict that broke out in 2004 between Yemeni government forces and Shiite Houthi rebels in the northern province of Saada. As violent clashes intensify in other parts of the country, the number of IDPs has risen to about 350,000, according to UNHCR estimates. The lack of shelters and facilities to accommodate this influx has exacerbated tensions between displaced groups and the local population. Despite an already difficult economic situation, ...

This species resides in arid habitats in a range that includes the Horn of Africa, Somalia, Ethiopia, and Eritrea. This species hold four subspecies, including the Somali wild ass and the Nubian wild ass.. The African wild ass reaches an average body length of 6.6 feet, a height between 12.1 and 14.1 hands at the shoulders, and a weight between 510 and 610 pounds. Its fur is short and smooth and can vary from fawn to light grey in color, which fades into white on the legs and underbelly. All of the subspecies hold a thin, dark dorsal stripe. The Nubian wild ass holds a stripe along the shoulders and the Somali wild ass holds stripes on its lower legs, similar to those of zebras.. Because it lives in arid regions, the African wild ass is primarily active during the cooler hours of the morning and afternoon and rest in the shade of trees or rocks during the day. ...

Female Genital Mutilation is also called FGM, female circumcision, cutting or sunna is when a girls external genitals (private parts) are cut away. This is abuse, and it is illegal in the UK.
The Guardian has spoken to women who have received death threats, been publicly assaulted and who have had to move house after speaking out about FGM, which involves cutting away some or all of a girls external genitalia and can include sewing up the vagina. It is mostly carried out on girls some time between infancy and the age of 15.. Nimko Ali, a 29-year-old British-Somalian, was taken to Somalia for the procedure when she was seven. Ethiopia is the oldest independent country in Africa and the second-oldest official Christian nation in the world after Armenia. Ethiopia is also the place for the first Hijrah (615 AD) in Islamic history where the Christian king of Ethiopia accepted Muslim refugees from Mecca sent by the prophet Mohamed. Along with Liberia and Darwiish State, it was the only nation to survive the Scramble for Africa, until it was occupied by Italy and annexed to the colony of Italian East Africa, alongside Eritrea and Somalia. It was liberated during World War II, and later involved in wars against Oromo and Somali rebels and the newly annexed Eritrea, whose independence led Ethiopia to return to being a landlocked country.

President Trump today issued a revised version of his infamous executive order to temporarily ban the issuance of new green cards and visas for nationals from Iran, Syria, Yemen, Libya, Somalia, and Sudan. The new order dropped Iraq, which eviscerated Trumps argument that the list of banned countries is based on an existing list in U.S. law. The order also cuts the number of refugee admissions by about 37 percent compared to the post-1975 average number of annual refugees admitted-from 79,329 per year to just 50,000. However, there were 110,000 refugees scheduled to be admitted in 2017 so the actual decrease in refugees this year is a whopping 55 percent under this executive order. The Trump administration thinks this new order addresses many of the legal challenges made against the first version.. Introduction. When the first version of this order was signed at the end of January, Catos research showed that the ...
Since 2002, approximately 15,000 migrants have landed by boat on the tiny European island nation of Malta, arriving in the country without permission, or irregularly. Human Rights Watchs report documents how Malta has detained virtually all of these migrants without regard to age. Asylum seekers who arrive by boat are detained for up to 12 months, and migrants who do not apply for asylum (or who are rejected) can be detained for up to 18 months. Even the most vulnerable migrants - such as families with children, elderly people, and people with mental or physical disabilities - are taken to detention.. The report documents Maltas routine detention of unaccompanied migrant children - who are often fleeing violence or conflict in countries such as Somalia and Eritrea - pending the outcome of a lengthy age determination procedure. Unaccompanied migrant children are children traveling without parents or other guardians; typically they travel in dangerous conditions for many months before reaching ...

mbulances, buses, Red Cross and other NGOs are expecting the boat and the migrants. There are 158 persons, including 22 women and babies, and come from several African countries, including Somalia, Nigeria, Mali, Senegal, Burkina Faso, Sierra Leone, Niger, Tchad, Errythrea and Togo. Only some are political refugees. Most of them left their native countries for economic reasons and were trapped in Libya. They will all be, regardless of their countries of origins, very quickly sent away from Lampedusa to different parts of Italy, where they will be able to stay for six months. A few of them will go back to their country and others will continue their epic trip to France, Holland, Germany, Denmark or Sweden. The whole operation of disembarkation, counting of the migrants and transfer into buses is extremely well organized and quickly done. A person in charge tells the photographer, Have you seen how fast we operate from their boat to the buses? Then, tourists dont see them. Lampedusa, Italy. ...

Italys colonial endeavor came late, compared to its European neighbors, partially because modern Italy is a recent creation. In 1882, the Kingdom of Italy, which was founded only two decades earlier, invaded Eritrea, and seven years later, it conquered Somalia. Between 1895 and 1896 Italy also tried to conquer Ethiopia, but it failed spectacularly, with the Ethiopian troops inflicting on the Italian attackers the worst defeat ever suffered by a European nation in Africa. In 1911, the Italians took Libya.. When Benito Mussolini came to power, he vowed to further expand the colonies-and to avenge the defeat in Ethiopia. The Fascist troops conquered Ethiopia in 1936, with the help of chemical weapons, and took Albania in 1939.. At the time, Italians were very proud of having an empire at last; they saw it as a way to overcome their inferiority complex toward wealthier and more powerful European nations, noted Nicola Labanca, a historian at the University of Siena and the author of the book ...

The timing is horrendous, because the farmers are just planting, and the seedlings are just coming up now since its the beginning of the rainy season, says Keith Cressman, the UNs Food and Agriculture Organisations (FAOs) Senior Locust Forecasting Officer.. The February to May rainy season is the ideal time for farmers to plant crops, with harvesting anticipated from June to early July, which is precisely when the next swarm generation of locusts will be forming. The rains have been good this year, and the damp, humid conditions are perfect for locust eggs to hatch.. The desert locust is considered the most destructive migratory pest in the world. The current outbreak begun with heavy rains from two cyclones in May and October 2018 on the southern Arabian Peninsula. To date the locusts have spread through Djibouti, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Somalia, South Sudan, Yemen, and over the Persian Gulf.. A single swarm covering one square kilometre contains up to 80 million ...

This article originally appeared on Nursing Clio.. On February 20, 2017, the young nation of South Sudan declared that it was suffering famine in several regions of the country.1 It was the first of several nations, including Yemen, Nigeria, and Somalia, that have begun to suffer severe food scarcity this year, resulting in what is arguably the largest humanitarian crisis in decades. Unfortunately, the story of famine in these regions is nothing new, and humanitarian aid has a long history of addressing famine around the world in the twentieth century. Beginning in the 1960s and 70s, for instance, scientists began to rediscover native plants and animals as part of a push to modernize underdeveloped nations and provide food sources for impoverished nations during times of famine. 2 Looking back at the history of these attempts and the contemporary fruits of the research surrounding them is topical, especially considering the increasingly disastrous famines that are now brewing in North Africa ...

He repeatedly stressed the importance of getting one as soon as possible as they will soon have an assignment that requires them to use their e-mail accounts. The teacher asked those who have one now to put it on the board if they havent done so in the last class. The Korean girl and the Pakistan boy who had just received theirs put their e-mail addresses on the board. The girl from Hong Kong chose to give it to the teacher on a 3 by 5 index card. The teacher later put her e-mail address on the board when the class ...

In Australia, animal rights advocates say the conditions of the voyage amount to extreme cruelty to the animals. If such measures had been taken when recommended, those poor animals would be out of their misery by now -- instead, they are still trapped on that death ship in extreme temperatures, extreme humidity and surrounded by a sea of their own excrement. In Jidda, Saudi Arabia refused to accept the animals Aug. 22 after a government inspector claimed that too many had scabby mouth, a virus that makes the sheep less attractive but doesnt affect the quality of their meat. [...] the Australian government and animal activists reject that theory, suggesting instead that the debacle was the result of a Saudi business deal gone awry. According to Wirth, other Saudis wanted to scuttle the deal because they could get a better price from Somalia and Ethiopia. In Iraq, plans for British troops to distribute the sheep fell apart when authorities concluded that the occupation force didnt have the
Frank Crimi in FrontPage. Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM), aided by a flood of weapons and mercenaries from Libya, has turned the Sahara into the newest epicenter of terrorist activity, one that threatens to produce a new wave of terror in North Africa and beyond.. For years, the nations of the African Sahel - the Sub-Saharan stretch of desert that includes Niger, Mali and Mauritania - have been plagued by rampant terrorist attacks, arms dealing, drug trafficking, and kidnapping by AQIMs Islamic militants.. Now, AQIM has expanded its terrorist network through an alliance with Africas two other al-Qaeda linked terror groups: Somalias al-Shabab and Nigerias Boko Haram.. General Carter Ham, head of the US Africa Command, recently claimed the three al-Qaeda terrorist organizations had linked up to coordinate their terrorist activities. As Ham noted, Weve definitely seen a cross-pollination, certainly of … techniques, tactics and procedures across the organizations. According to Ham, ...

The rise of ISIS (also known as Islamic State of Iraq and Syria), an Islamist terrorist group that pledged allegiance to Al-Qaeda in 2004 and proclaimed itself to be a worldwide caliphate last year in June, vowing to establish a so-called Islamic State governed by Shariah law in Iraq and beyond coupled with the surge of other extremist groups such as Boko Haram in Nigeria and Al Shabab in Somalia, has brought complex questions regarding Shariah to the forefront. In contemporary discourses and nomenclature, Shariah has been perceived as inter alia, dogmatic and misogynistic, propagating a radical and violent ideology. These claims have been cemented by an increasing number of extremist Muslims donning suicide vests, and Muslim countries like Saudi Arabia denying women the right to even drive. Against this backdrop, along with moderate Muslims hailing Islam as a religion of peace, it begs the question: are such depictions of Shariah a genuine reflection of Islamic teachings? Perhaps these ...
Somalia, Syria, Mosul, Baghdad, Saudi Arabia, Gaza: these are places that this book concentrates on. Tom Doyle has been a missionary in the Middle East, for several years after being a pastor in various states. He has a passion for Israel and has led tours there many times. He is now the Middle East director for e3 Partners which is a group of church planters. He shares in Killing Christians stories from Muslim Christians who have either been tortured for the sake of Christ, killed for the sake of Christ or know of fellow Christians who have gone through this. It is so eye-opening to me to know more about what these people have to go through just to know Christ, read a Bible, share Christ with others. We Americans have become too complacent in our faith and ability to go to church when we want to, that we dont think of those who have to hide to worship the Lord. Mosul, one of the places talked about in this book, has been in the news just this week about ISIS destroying museum artifacts, and ...
After riots this past summer left parts of the UK in shambles, its no wonder that police in that part of the world are looking for new methods of crowd control. Since the usual methods for subduing rioters were seen as largely ineffective against their sheer numbers at the time, police have been looking into new tactics as well as non-lethal weapons to replace the standard tasers and tear gas. To that end, the next time someone tries to loot a store in England, they may find themselves literally struck blind thanks to a new riot laser currently being tested called the SMU 100.. The SMU 100 was originally developed to combat pirates in Somalia (much like a similar device from BAE Systems), but in the wake of the UK riots this summer the focus for the project has shifted towards controlling rioters. The shoulder-mounted laser emits a flash of light about three meters (9.8 ft) across, which can effectively blind a target up to 500 meters (1,640 ft) away; much farther than tear gas and ...

Kinshasa, April 31, 2021 (CPA).- Seventeen humanitarian partners launched an inter-agency emergency response plan on Tuesday, coordinated by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the Government of the Democratic Republic Congo in order to meet the complex needs of 92,000 refugees from the Central African Republic (CAR) recently arrived in DRC and nearly 100,000 members of host communities, said a UNHCR press release received on Wednesday at CPA.. Somalis demonstrate against high food prices in the capital Mogadishu. At least two people were killed in clashes. India shocked the markets yesterday by suspending trading in futures contracts for a range of farm products in a bid to clamp down on alleged speculators and curb inflation, now running at 7.6pc.. The countrys Forward Markets Commission said contracts for soybean oil, chana (chickpeas), potatoes, and rubber had been banned for four months, even though a report by the Indian parliament last month concluded that soaring food costs had almost nothing to do with the futures contracts. Traders in Mumbai slammed the ban as an act of brazen political populism.. The move has been seen as a concession to Indias Communist MPs - key allies of premier Manmohan Singh - who want a full-fledged ban on futures trading in sugar, cooking oil, and grains.. As food and fuel riots spread across the world, a string of governments have resorted to steps that menace the free flow of food and key ...
wow joshua, think whatever u want to, but calling someone else a disgusting human being for not believing the same thing as you is fd up. i am highly opposed to FMG, i think it is unnecessary and not done in a surgically correct manner. however, Joshua, there is a reason for removing the foreskin in males. you have no right to call people who disprove of FMG but not male circumcision an uneducated hypocrite. Im sorry Joshua, but i think your the one who speaks without knowing. before you point fingers, make sure your hands are clean. If you want HIV, go ahead and tell people your mad that doctors removed your foreskin when you were a baby, something you dont even remember. If you believe male circumcision has no purpose, maybe you should do some research on the subject before you start mouthing off to people when u really dont know what your talking about. Also, male circumcision does not mutilate male genitals. it removes an unnecessary part of the body. you dont get all butt hurt when ...

UK Housing Awards - Highly Commended for Innovation of the Year In May 2018, we attended the UK Housing Awards, where the Resettlement Passport was Highly Commended, in the category of Innovation of the Year.. 1st Big Exhibition We enjoyed exhibiting at the Chartered Institute of Housing conference in Manchester last June. It was the first time we have done anything like this and we were able to make lots of contacts with people from local authorities and housing associations.. Data reports now reporting It sounds very dull, but its how we know that 88% of people who complete the Resettlement Passport feel more confident about managing their tenancy and that the course is having a particular impact on helping people to deal with difficult neighbours, feeling confident about dealing with money issues and paying council tax. The data reports also show us exactly what people are dealing with - homelessness, mental health issues, sexual exploitation for example - and these are exactly the ...

The Swiss health care system has several important properties that I (and many others) have been advocating should be incorporated into any reform of the US health care system. One major advantage of the Swiss system is that employer-provided health care does not receive any special tax breaks, whereas the US system is built on these tax breaks. As a result, only a rather a small fraction of Swiss health care is obtained through employment. Mainly, Swiss families buy health care on their own, so that, unlike in the US, their health insurance does not reduce their incentives to change...

I live in Mayfield, Kentucky. And, I caught your post since this issue has caught national attention. I wasnt at the meeting, but I know where the Somalians want to have a mosque. It is in the old Democratic Headquarters building. It is a very small building with a very small parking lot. Maybe five or six cars could park there and still someone would probably get a ding or two when everyone decided to leave.. The truth of the matter is, whether or not anyone cheered or doesnt want a mosque, the parking lot is too small and the city wouldnt have let a Baptist Church take up residence there either.. What is amazing is that while this has gotten national attention, no one has written a story about the chicken plant that imported the Somalians to Kentucky. This same plant has been cited on more than one occasion for having numerous Hispanic employees with the same SSN. If you are an American citizen, you must apply for a job at this plant with the local unemployment office. If you are Hispanic ...

This workshop, organised in collaboration with Save the Children, was part of our contribution to Refugee Festival Scotland. It examined how Scotlands public services are responding to meeting the needs of refugees and asylum seekers as they seek to resettle in Scotland.. This event aimed to deepen our understanding of the experiences and challenges faced by refugees who have been resettled in Scotland. It drew on research that has examined the resettlement of adults and children with a focus on both place and on a specific policy arena, education. It looked at the experiences of both refugees and those who work with refugees in accessing and participating in the local community, health and social care and how the services they receive impact on their wellbeing.. The event was an opportunity for people to learn about the experiences and perspectives of refugees from across Scotland and those who work with them. It contextualised their experiences and examined the background to refugee ...
