Corporate social responsibility (CSR) and stock price - An event study approach
Corporate Social Responsibility can bring real business benefits by reducing risk, by enhancing brand value, by opening doors and creating good will, and by improving staff efficiency and morale. Nevertheless, there remains a protracted debate about the legitimacy and value of corporate responses to CSR concerns. Knowledge about the effect of Corporate Social Responsibility on corporate financial performance contributes to the debate about whether managers systematically miss profit opportunities if they decide against it. There are different views about a firms role in society and disagreements as to whether wealth maximization should be the sole goal of a corporation. Using extensive data over a time period, this study will explore and test the sign of the relationship between corporate social responsibility and financial performance. More specifically, the purpose of this study is to examine whether Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) announcements or events, have any effect on a firms ...
The potential impact of corporate social responsibility in the Chinese garment industry
The thesis analyses the potential impact of Corporate Social Responsibility in the Chinese garment industry. A performance analysis of the current Corporate Social Responsibility mechanisms on these benchmarks shows an incompleteness of the concept. In order to have a potential impact in the Chinese garment industry Corporate Social Responsibility should undergo certain adjustments and be a mix of bottom-up and to-down approaches ...

Corporate Social Responsibility and Gender Commitments by Musammet Ismat Ara Begum
The growing field of Corporate Social Responsibility includes gender equality issues as a corporate commitment to society as well as the organization. It emphasizes equal opportunities for males and females in every sphere of organizational practice. However, the practices are most relevant to economic gains and political and regulatory purposes instead of demands for society, ethics and human rights. This research paper finds that the commercial banks of Bangladesh practice their gender commitments within a Corporate Social Responsibility framework and concentrate more on economic and political gains than mainstream gender practices from an ethical point of view. Corporate Sustainable Development. Revisiting the Relationship between Corporate Social Responsibility Dimensions
With rising stakeholder concerns over sustainable development, corporate social responsibility (CSR) has become key for the business community, moving the business model beyond financial performance to a new voluntary paradigm based on natural resource conservation, social welfare, stakeholder engagement and economic performance. This article aims to answer whether profitable business is compatible with balanced sustainability by investigating the relationship between the economic, social, environmental and governance performance for a sample of global firms. A canonical vine (C‐vine) copula is used for this purpose. Results show the existence of a fairly strong positive relationship between economic, social and environmental performance. The corporate governance dimension is shown to have a weak relationship with the rest of the CSR dimensions. Important policy implications are derived from these results. Corporate Social Responsibility 2.0 | 3BL Media
Last month, the Seattle Times kicked off a four-part critical series about locally-based Amazon with an expose on the companys lack of organized philanthropy in the community. The meme is not new--weve seen similar critique emerge about Apple in the wake of Steve Jobs death and the Foxconn scandal. What was surprising was the backlash to the criticism reflected in the comments about the article on SeattleTimes.com. Here at Waggener Edstrom, it caused us to wonder: has the American public changed its expectations for corporate social responsibility?. Next week, two conferences go head-to-head on the topic of corporate support for public good. In Chicago, the Cause Marketing Forum (CMF) will celebrate its 10th anniversary covering the intersection of commerce and cause. In New York, the Social Innovation Summit will hold its 3rd semi-annual invitation-only networking event focused on public-private partnerships.. Frontiers | Scrutinizing Social Identity Theory in Corporate Social Responsibility: An Experimental Investigation | Psychology
Corporate social responsibility (CSR) is widely established by companies that aim to contribute to society and minimize their negative impact on the environment. In CSR research, employees reactions to CSR have extensively been researched. Social identity theory is often used as a theoretical background to explain the relationship between CSR and employee-related outcomes, but until now, a sound empirical examination is lacking, and causality remains unclear. CSR can unfold its effect mainly because of three theoretically important aspects of CSR initiatives, which increase identification, i.e., distinctiveness, prestige, and salience of the out-group. This study examines how far identification can explain the effect of CSR on employees. In an experimental vignette study (N = 136 employees), CSR was manipulated in three degrees (positive, neutral, and negative) to examine its effects on job satisfaction, organizational commitment, and organizational citizenship behavior (OCB). In the vignettes,
