The Slovak Cuvac is a Slovak breed of dog, bred for use as a livestock guard dog. This mountain dog-also known as Slovensky Cuvac, Slovak Chuvach, Tatransky Cuvac and Slovensky Kuvac-is closely related to the Hungarian Kuvasz. The alternate German and English spelling Tchouvatch reflects the pronunciation: chew-votch. The breed is recognised under sponsorship from Slovakia by the Fédération Cynologique Internationale with the name Slovenský čuvač. Despite the multiple renderings in English, these refer to only one breed. The United Kennel Club in the US uses the English version of the name Slovak Cuvac. Slovak sheep farming has a very old tradition. The Slovak Cuvac, together with mountain sheep, the Hucul horse, and typical inhabitants of the mountains, formed the fundamental economic preconditions for the utilization of pastures for cattle. The inhabitants of the Slovak mountains were mostly free people who defended the frontiers and paid duties in sheeps cheese. The institution of these ...

According to the new bill, the applicant (or exporter) has to announce the destination country and also declare that there is no need for the tissue in the Slovak Republic. With more than 5 million potential donors here, there is no reason why Slovakia should ever suffer a shortage. The new regulation could end up legitimising the business of cross-border tissue transfers instead of constraining it.. The process will most likely be overseen by the National Transplant Organisation, which the government plans to set up as part of the said legislative revision. Its consent would be needed for tissue exports, but exactly how the system would work remains to be seen, especially as the NTO itself will also be conducting commercial activities.. So who exactly is behind the company Tissue Research Institute and why was its progress so smooth? What kinds of products are made from our dead parts and why is it such big business? We will be answering these and other questions and getting some responses from ...

This work aims to evaluate the impact of the chemical composition of groundwater/drinking water on the health of inhabitants of the Slovak Republic. Primary data consists of 20,339 chemical analyses of groundwater (34 chemical elements and compounds) and data on the health of the Slovak population expressed in the form of health indicators (HI). Fourteen HIs were evaluated including life expectancy, potential years of lost life, relative/standardized mortality for cardiovascular and oncological diseases, and diseases of the gastrointestinal and respiratory systems. The chemical and health data were expressed as the mean values for each of the 2883 Slovak municipalities. Artificial neural network (ANN) was the method used for environmental and health data analysis. The most significant relationship between HI and chemical composition of groundwater was documented as Ca + Mg (mmol·L−1), Ca and Mg. The following limit values were set for these most significant groundwater chemical parameters: Ca + Mg 2

To tackle climate change, CO2 emissions need to be cut. Pricing carbon is one of the most effective and lowest-cost ways of inducing such cuts. This report presents the first full analysis of the use of carbon pricing on energy in 41 OECD and G20 economies, covering 80% of global energy use and of CO2 emissions. The analysis takes a comprehensive view of carbon prices, including specific taxes on energy use, carbon taxes and tradable emission permit prices. It shows the entire distribution of effective carbon rates by country and the composition of effective carbon rates by six economic sectors within each country. Carbon prices are seen to be often very low, but some countries price significant shares of their carbon emissions. The carbon pricing gap, a synthetic indicator showing the extent to which effective carbon rates fall short of pricing emissions at EUR 30 per tonne, the low-end estimate of the cost of carbon used in this study, sheds light on potential ways of strengthening carbon ...

[ad_1] Photo AP Slovak veterinary inspectors have found 21 tons of spoiled Brazilian meat tainted with salmonella in the capital Bratislava, officials said Friday. The Brazilian meat was imported into Slovakia via the Netherlands and Poland, Slovak Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Gabriela Matecna told a press conference. Our veterinary inspectors immediately ordered this meat to be withdrawn, as it had been distributed to as many as 54 restaurants throughout the country, Matecna said. The Slovak Agriculture Ministry immediately halted the sale of Brazilian meat in the country. Matecna said inspectors have checked 341 products so far. The laboratory tests to date have discovered 17 irregular items, according to Slovak State Veterinary and Food Directorate general director Jozef Bires. Were continuing to perform inspections, focusing mainly on entities with warehouses that are engaged in relatively large-scale trade in this commodity, supplying it to restaurants and end consumers, Bires
There is no match between the modern linguistic, political, or ethnic maps of Europe and the genetic maps of the continent (some genetic traits in the Basque and Sámi regions are isolated exceptions). Most maps of genetic variations show gradual geographic changes with increasing distance, not an association with the current nations or languages. Calculated genetic averages for individual countries are sometimes at odds with what is seen as their cultural and historical closeness or distance. Modern European languages (including Slovak and other Slavic languages) were superimposed on descendants of a wide range of ancient languages we know nothing about except bits of their speakers genetic makeup, which has been diffused by migrations and interbreeding.. ...

Even so, an internal memo shows that RTI was aware of the "high risk" of using tissue banks from Ukraine as early as 2001, but that that it looked to "buy us time to win over other donor countries." The memo continues that "rebuilding a source of donors is crucial" and that "more donors are required". Enter countries like the Slovak Republic, which has been supplying its tissues to the German subsidiary since 2009.. Vegh said that the cancellation of TRIs license in April this year was a political thing, and the company even filed charges against former UDZS head Gajdos over "abuse of public power". Vegh also noted how a new government company would be set up in the summer that would probably get most of "our tissues", in reference to the planned National Transplant Organisation.. The planned NTO looks set to be based on Kosice, where tissue removal has been carried out on a large scale for years, but the creation of the new NTO might mean that the state starts to export surplus tissue ...
Mycotoxins affect poultry production by being present in the feed and directly causing a negative impact on bird performance. Carry-over rates of mycotoxins in animal products are, in general, small (except for aflatoxins in milk and eggs) therefore representing a small source of mycotoxins for humans. Mycotoxins present directly in human food represent a much higher risk. The contamination of poultry feed by aflatoxins was determined as a first assessment of this risk in Cameroon. A total of 201 samples of maize, peanut meal, broiler and layer feeds were collected directly at poultry farms, poultry production sites and poultry feed dealers in three agroecological zones (AEZs) of Cameroon and analyzed for moisture content and aflatoxin levels. The results indicate that the mean of the moisture content of maize (14.1%) was significantly (P < 0.05) higher than all other commodities (10.0%-12.7%). Approximately 9% of maize samples were positive for aflatoxin, with concentrations overall ranging from <

This thesis deals with socioeconomic and ethnic inequalities in psychological factors and in health-related quality of life among patients with coronary heart disease, as well as with psychosocial predictors of positive and negative changes in quality of life among patients with coronary heart disease (CHD). With regard to the psychological factors, the present study is focusing on the following most commonly researched characteristics: psychological well-being, vital exhaustion, Type D personality and hostility. Psychological well-being is characterized by the occurrence and severity of the depression and anxiety symptoms, which are strongly associated with the coronary heart disease. Vital exhaustion, a state characterized by lack of energy, increased irritability and feelings of demoralisation, is also known as one of the risk factors for coronary heart disease, and has been shown to be a substantial predictor of myocardial infarction. Type D personality defines individuals who experience ...
