The aim of Ellesmere Sculpture Trail is to interpret the landscape through sculpture. The Ellesmere Sculpture Trail has been developed over the past 12 years. It is made up of sculptures set in the unique and beautiful landscape of Ellesmere in North Shropshire. The pieces are created by international contemporary artists, commissioned by the Ellesmere Sculpture Initiative (ESi), and are made specifically in response to the location. For each phase of the trail, pieces were made using local stone and wood, wherever possible, to reflect the history and heritage of the landscape around Ellesmere. Sculpture, a three-dimensional art form is enhanced by outdoor locations where there are contrasting forms, textures and light in the landscape. Sculpture in the landscape can change the experience of a familiar setting, re-interpreting its geology and heritage, giving a little-known area of natural beauty a wider profile, and bringing art to a new audience.. The trail provides visitors with a free and ...

Sculpture Trail. Creativity is seemingly built into the DNA of the Florida Keys. Without even stepping inside a gallery or studio, visitors exploring the island chain can encounter an eclectic variety of open-air artistry. Prime among the outdoor creations is a collection of thought-provoking large-scale sculptures.. The 81-mile Florida Keys Sculpture Trail extends from Islamorada to Key West. Situated at locations along the Florida Keys Overseas Highway - the only road stretching throughout the island chain - the sculptures are easily viewable by people traveling around the Keys.. The public art trail was the vision of Key West philanthropists John Padget and the late Jacob Dekker, who gifted the sculptures to the Keys community, and its still growing.. Its newest additions include a massive sundial-inspired piece titled Wave Henge, by Damon Hamm and Jeff Sundheim, placed at Key Wests Truman Waterfront Park; Gaea, named for the mythological Greek goddess and sculpted by Gaia Grossi, at ...
The modern sculpture movement can be said to begin at the Rodin exhibit at the Universal Exhibition held in Paris in 1900. At this event Rodin showed his Burghers of Calais, Balzac, Victor Hugo statues, and the exhibition included the first public showing of his Gates of Hell which included The Thinker.[6][7] Cubist sculpture, in the early 20th century, was a style that developed in parallel with cubist painting, and the formal experiments of Georges Braque and Pablo Picasso. Beginning around 1909 and evolving through the early 1920s cubist artists developed new means of constructing works of art using collage, sculptural assemblage using disparate materials and traditional sculpture making from plaster and clay molds. Some sources name Picassos 1909 bronze Head of a Woman as the first cubist sculpture.[8] Artists like Raymond Duchamp-Villon (1876-1918), whose career was cut short by his death in military service, and Alexander Archipenko, whod arrived in Paris in 1908 and whose 1912 Walking ...

Exhibition. August 1-November 1, 2010. Since its birth in the first half of the 19th century, photography has offered an unprecedented way to analyze works of art for further study. Through crop, focus, angle of view, degree of close-up, and lighting, as well as through ex post facto techniques of darkroom manipulation, collage, montage, and assemblage, photographers not only interpret the works they record but create stunning reinventions. The Original Copy: Photography of Sculpture, 1839 to Today presents a critical examination of the intersections between photography and sculpture, exploring how the one medium has become implicated in the understanding of the other. Through a selection of nearly 300 outstanding pictures by more than 100 artists from the dawn of modernism to the present, the exhibition looks at the ways in which photography at once informs and challenges our understanding of sculpture. Addressing how and why sculpture became a photographic subject, the exhibition examines pictures

The Dunedin Botanic Gardens worm is getting a wriggle on and should soon be here, Dunedin City Council staff say. Installation of the $85,000 worm sculpture, Ouroboros, by Christchurch artist Julia Morison, has been delayed twice now. It was initially planned to be installed in the garden before an international botanic garden conference held in the city before Labour Weekend. However, the pavers for the area around where the sculpture is to be installed near the Croque-o-dile Cafe were delayed, and then Ms Morison did some more laser cutting to increase the flexibility of the piece, which is made from tubular stainless steel divided into hundreds of scale-like segments that allow the sculpture to be moved and sat on, and the installation date was put back to the last week of October. Botanic Garden team leader Alan Matchett said the worm had been assembled at a factory in Hamilton but Ms Morison was remodelling the exact positioning of three poles elevating the sculpture, to allow the full ...

Ice Age Lion Man is world s earliest figurative sculpture Work carved from mammoth ivory has been redated and 1,000 new fragments discovered but it won t make it to British Museum show The star exhibit initially promised for the British Museum s Ice Age Art show will not be coming but for a good reason. New pieces of Ulm s Lion Man sculpture have been discovered and it has been found to be much older than originally thought, at around 40,000 years. This makes it the world s earliest figurative sculpture. At the London exhibition, which opens on 7 February, a replica from the Ulm Museum will instead go on display. The story of the discovery of the Lion Man goes back to August 1939, when fragments of mammoth ivory were excavated at the back of the Stadel Cave in the Swabian Alps, south-west Germany. This was a few days before the outbreak of the Second World War. When it was eventually reassembled in 1970, it was regarded as a standing bear or big cat, but with human characteristics. The ivory ...
The collecting of sculpture, including that of earlier periods, goes back some 2,000 years in Greece, China and Mesoamerica, and many collections were available on semi-public display long before the modern museum was invented. From the 20th century the relatively restricted range of subjects found in large sculpture expanded greatly, with abstract subjects and the use or representation of any type of subject now common. Today much sculpture is made for intermittent display in galleries and museums, and the ability to transport and store the increasingly large works is a factor in their construction. Small decorative figurines, most often in ceramics, are as popular today (though strangely neglected by modern and Contemporary art) as they were in the Rococo, or in ancient Greece when Tanagra figurines were a major industry, or in East Asian and Pre-Columbian art. Small sculpted fittings for furniture and other objects go well back into antiquity, as in the Nimrud ivories, Begram ivories and ...
Ronnie van Hout creates mixed-media artworks that portray unsettling subjects including sculptures that merge human body parts with random household objects. The Melbourne-based artists latest creation is perhaps his most nightmarish yet.. Perched on the roof of the Wellington City Gallery in New Zealand is van Houts 16-foot-tall sculpture of a hybrid hand. The giant outdoor work was made using scans of the artists own body parts with van Hout describing the piece as a partial self-portrait, as reported by The Guardian. The work was originally installed in his hometown of Christchurch following the tragic 2011 earthquake.. Since it was erected over the weekend, the artwork has been triggering some mixed reactions. Some onlookers even took to their social media accounts to express how the hideous and monstrous piece is causing them to have nightmares.. The sculpture will grace the rooftop of the gallery for the next three years. Read the reactions below and learn more about Quasi by ...
The sculpture consists of layered elements that are carefully aligned to one another and compose an organic pattern that seems to sprout from the underlying tile texture. The projected video content follows a circadian rhythm. By daytime, the sculpture seems to perform gentle movements, just as if it was dreaming and moving in its sleep. When night falls, the nocturnal being awakens and comes to live. It reveals its full beauty in vibrant and rhythmic animations, inviting its spectators to linger and observe this fascinating play.. SOLANUM represents URBANSCREENs artistic approach of using projection mapping as a medium to create artworks that form a strong unit with their environment. By combining natural and artificial materials with a digital image layer, the augmented sculpture is located in the intersection between the virtual and the real.. Duration (loop): 20 ...

Each sculpture is handmade and painted with no more tools than fingers and a paint brush. By virtue of this primal process, each creation is completely unique and produced in a fluid and intuitive manner. The process begins with a handmade metal armature over which light weight clay is sculpted. The painting is executed with acrylic, mineral and oil pigments and the embedded eyes are glass. When complete the whole piece is glazed to intensify colour and strength. With inspiration derived from animal physiology and a love of the fantastic, grotesque and absurd, each sculpture is unique and personable. The detailed craftsmanship is rich and thoughtful and never cast molded or replicated. Despite appearances these sculptures ship extremely well, I ship internationally on a weekly basis. ...

Bronze 17 x 5 x 9 cm, 1986. When gazing into the sculptures, the space beyond and around is roughly framed. Combining in a cubist manner the differently framed perspectives, the sculptures propose to « render the quality of a specific portion of space ». A « rendering » not in the sense of a photograph - or it would be a kind of camera that would take one shot and then petrified itself in the form of the environment targeted - but more like an abstract model concentrating, agglomerating, in a sort of nucleus (and somehow in an animist concept) the spirit of this space. Each sculpture thus, transposes into a geometric summary portions of space which, according to their location, suggest different qualities of atmosphere. If six of the seven « viseurs » relate to the character of the different points of view, the seventh relates to a precise event : a modest bronze assemblage, fixed in the corner of a pond, below the thematic garden, perpetuates a tradition of garden landscape which conceals ...

April Flowers for redOrbit.com - Your Universe Online. At the Tayinat Archaeological Project (TAP) excavation site in Turkey, archaeologists have unearthed two new and exciting sculptures. One is a large, semi-circular column base, ornately decorated on one side and the other is a beautiful and colossal human sculpture. These cultural treasures are both from a monumental gate complex that provided access to the upper citadel of Kunulua, capital of the Neo-Hittite Kingdom of Patina that existed from approximately 1000 - 738 BC.. These newly discovered Tayinat sculptures are the product of a vibrant local Neo-Hittite sculptural tradition, said Professor Tim Harrison, the Tayinat Project director and professor of Near Eastern Archaeology in the University of Torontos Department of Near and Middle Eastern Civilizations. They provide a vivid glimpse into the innovative character and sophistication of the Iron Age cultures that emerged in the eastern Mediterranean following the collapse of the ...

Dear Passenger, In keeping with classical 20th Century practice, this elevator has been retasked into a post modern sculpture for the Festival of Nations. We apologize for any conceptual or practical inconvenience this may cause. How to enjoy this sculpture: 1. From the outside of the sculpture press a button. As you are reading this you have already probably done this or someone has done this for you. 2. The elevator is a unique interactive sculpture in that it promises, like the highway and the gas chamber, the possibility of being somewhere else. 3. When the doors open, someone may magically appear already inside of the sculpture: this may even be someone you love, despise, or more likely, have no idea who they are, other than that they live in the same building. Act as appropriate. Do not blame the sculpture, which has, like life, simply presented these people to you. Indeed, when in doubt, this sculpture suggests you simply act as if they are somehow not there. 4. Press a button. Any ...
Returning Home (life size) was designed for American Veterans Park in West Point, NE to be one of two sculptures that tells the story of love and loss. While this sculpture tells the story of love of family, Gold Star Wife (not pictured) tells the story of loss.. A complex, three figure composition Returning Home shows the moment the husband has come home from war and is embraced by his family. They are hugging each other and the sculpture is supposed to evoke the feeling of what it is like for military families that have to endure separation and uncertainty.. With this sculpture I had an opportunity to apply what Ive learned over the years regarding composition. When I compose a sculpture I am always conscious of how a viewers eye is lead from one section to another. With most of the single figure sculptures it can be difficult because you are dealing with one body only. In this sculpture, however, I had the opportunity to have a unique visual focal point; the gaze between the man and woman. ...

AU - Song, Pill Soon. AU - Cotton, Therese M.. PY - 1989/12. Y1 - 1989/12. N2 - The application of surface-enhanced resonance Raman scattering (SERRS) spectroscopy to the analysis of the configuration of biliverdin dimethyl ester (BVDE) is reported. SERRS spectra obtained by adsorption of the compounds onto an electrochemically roughened silver electrode and recorded at 77 K were intense and free of significant photodegradation. The similarity of the SERRS and resonance Raman (RR) spectra obtained under identical conditions suggests that no perturbation of the electronic structure of the BVDE occurs upon interaction with the silver surface, and that the distribution of conformers comprising the BVDE solution is not changed. SERRS spectra of the deuterated and monoprotonated Z, Z, Z isomer are also ...

Kims painted wall sculpture, Dr. Melissa Doft, Plastic Surgeon 1 is the first in an ambitious recent series that captures the features of three people whose work alters the human body: plastic surgeon Melissa Doft (the subject of this work); Kims personal trainer, Stephen Marino; and Eric. S. Lander, a geneticist, molecular biologist, mathematician, and director of the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard. After meeting Dr. Doft-a highly successful plastic surgeon based on New Yorks Upper East Side, and collector of Kims works-the artist became interested in occupations that shift cultural perceptions of the body through its manipulation. Updating age-old ceremonial and artistic processes, her method involves a painstaking sequence of steps in which she casts a mold of the ...
Virginias Melissa Terlizzi reminds us that Valentines Day is around the corner with her Queen of Hearts sculpture. Melissa set out to make something dark and creepy with Tim Burton edginess but ended up with a wide-eyed innocent.. I decided to go with it, and completely lost myself in the project. Even the Queen of Hearts must have been sweet once, right? Before she had her heart broken a few times, and started lopping off peoples heads, she explains. See Melissas sculptures on Flickr and Facebook. Its time to start considering hearts of all varieties. ...
In using the aesthetic terms, you will see how this sculpture is from ancient Egypt. This sculpture is naturalistic because it follows nature; it follows how things naturally appear. This vividly painted mummy shows how idealized it is, meaning that it is shown as perfect or more nearly perfect than is true. When by looking at the face, you can tell all the features it has on it and how it is shaped like a body. Another example would be the eagle that is right below in the chest area it is drawn to perfection. The people underneath the eagle are idealized and are painted static. You can see that they are standing, not moving or progressing in any way. The mummy itself is standing, stationary. This also is rational meaning that it communicates majesty. Just by looking at this mummy, the facial expression just shows the poise of this person. It shows the majesty with the paintings on in front of it. Ancient Egyptian beliefs in the afterlife gave rise to the complex art. It has details that are ...

Violas work is all about emotion, yes, but it is about elemental opposites - life and death, water and fire, youth and age, male and female. This is a guy who doesnt beat about the bush with the small stuff, its all about The Big Questions for him. He pares away the superfluous detail so that it is just People, Fire, Water, Light, Dark, Life, Death. His work has a big, intangible sense of spirituality, a sense that theres something very profound but you dont know quite what it is, often involving the exploration of the thin, thin divide between life and death. It manages to be incredibly broad but very subtle at the same time. ...

West Virginia was formed during the Civil War by communities and leaders who rejected the Confederacy and their doctrine of secession and formed a new government loyal to the United States. Despite its Unionist past, West Virginia is home to more Confederate monuments than monuments honoring citizens who served in the armies and navies of the United States during the Civil War. Driving home this point, the state even has a Confederate monument in Union, West Virginia. This trail includes some of the most prominent Confederate monuments along with public university buildings named in honor of men who fought against the United States and opposed the formation of the Mountain State. Each monument is unique, but all were part of a campaign by organizations that sought to vindicate the Confederacy and the antebellum South. West Virginia provided more troops for the United States than the Confederacy, and the people of the state also suffered from numerous raids by Confederates and bushwhackers. The war also

For its entire existence, Randa said, the abbey has been operating on a wing and a prayer.. Until recent years, those prayers routinely were answered with about $80,000 in annual donations. Yoko Ono once donated $40,000, and a chance encounter at the local post office led to an anonymous contribution of $178,000 to pay for the Gandhi statue. But since 2004, when the abbey harbored a deserter from the Florida National Guard, Randa said, contributions have plunged to less than $30,000 a year.. Quite frankly, we became very controversial in the eyes of many, and the funding dried up, he said in an interview in the abbey.. I would hate to see them go, said Selectman Christopher Peck. I do think they represent the good side of town.. Not all Sherborn residents have felt so kindly. When the Gandhi statue was erected in 1993, next to a town war memorial, some townspeople complained that the sculpture was an affront to the communitys veterans.. But now, Peck said, he never hears such ...

When Wrights husband died in 1769, she was pregnant with a fourth child and needed a way to support the family. Working with her sister Rachel Wells, who by then was also a widow, she turned her hobby into a full-time occupation.[3] The sisters set up a business molding portraits in tinted wax, a popular art form in colonial America, and charged admission to see them.[4] By 1770 they had become successful enough to open a waxworks house in New York City and mount tours of their work to Philadelphia and Charleston.[1] Contemporary physician Solomon Drowne mentions a visit to the waxworks in his journals.[3]. Wrights portraits were life-sized figures or busts with real clothing and glass eyes. They were modeled from life and were considered to be very lifelike.[4] They were often placed in tableaux, illustrating the activities the portrayed individual might have undertaken in life.[1]. After many of her sculptures were destroyed in a fire in June 1771, Wright relocated to London, England.[1][3] ...

While practicing under that secret society he used that doctrine of Luciferian beliefs to develop a plan to guide the world toward todays New World Order. One under which communism-read-fascism would be the rule of law. This can be read in full in the book Morals and Dogma in which Pike lays out the plan.. When the Pike statue was torn down in Washington D.C. it prompted U.S. President Donald J. Trump to tweet, The DC police are not doing their job as they watched a statue be ripped down and burn. These people should be immediately arrested. A disgrace to our Country!. The truth is ANTIFA is the vehicle of the Deep State to push the country toward this twisted communist-fascist future, while the sadly hilarious part is that ANTIFA members, themselves, have no idea what they are actually doing or where their ideas worth fighting for even come from, yet they persist in trying to bend American minds to their violence-imposed vision.. TY - JOUR. T1 - RESONANCE RAMAN SCATTERING STUDIES OF THE QUATERNARY STRUCTURE TRANSITION IN HEMOGLOBIN.. AU - Rousseau, D. L.. AU - Ondrias, M. R.. PY - 1983/1/1. Y1 - 1983/1/1. N2 - The oxygen-binding energy difference, the free energy of cooperativity, is a thermodynamic property, and its location can be determined from an examination of the deoxygenated and liganded proteins in both their high affinity and low affinity structures. An assessment of the energetic differences between these four steady-state protein structures should elucidate which interactions contain the free energy of cooperativity. Resonance Raman scattering plays a very important role in determining these interactions, since it is a very sensitive probe of the bonds involving the heme group. By examining the resonance Raman spectrum of the heme in both quaternary structures in the liganded and in the deoxy forms, it may in principle be determined if the free energy of cooperativity is localized in any heme-protein ...

The large leaves of giant upright elephant ear is characteristic of tropical rainforests of Asia. It has similarities with the taro, a plant closer to the the European level, both belong to the same family of Araceae. Araceae like the colocasia werent known in ancient times. Close to Seville, in the village of Santiponce, we find the ruins of the city of Italica. Birthplace of two emperors of ancient Rome, Trajan and Hadrian, the archaeological remains discovered there show that material wealth and luxury were characteristic of the life of its inhabitants. In this sense, the mosaics found there are spectacular and very well preserved. Also, some of the sculptures found in archaeological excavations are key pieces of all classical statuary made in the Iberian Peninsula. One of them, now in the Archaeological Museum of Seville, represents the goddess of love, Venus. According to mythology, Venus, called Aphrodite by the Greeks, was born of sea foam, and this is the time represented by this ...
