This paper focuses on senior high school students and the ways that bullying affects their school attendance. Selected items from the 2008 Ghana Global School-based Student Health Survey are analysed first to explore the relationships between the duration and type of bullying and school attendance. Second, we investigate whether having emotional problems, in addition to being bullied, incrementally affects the relationship between bullying and school attendance. Third, we explore the mitigating influence of peer friendships on these relationships. In all cases we provide a gender analysis. The results show that bullying is associated with increased absenteeism for both boys and girls. The analysis of reported emotional problems, however, shows distinct gender differences. The results from this study indicate that PA opportunities during the school day influence step counts in young children. In addition to PE and recess, we found that minutes of teacher-reported CBPA predicted significantly higher school-day step counts. Consistent with prior studies, fifth-grade students (typically aged 10-11 y) accrued fewer steps than first-grade students (typically aged 6-7 y), and females accrued significantly fewer steps than males overall, as well as during PE and recess. DOH holds a contract with Childrens National Medical Center and its school nursing division, Childrens School Services, to provide Registered Nurses and Licensed Practical Nurses to staff school health suites. Each school is staffed with a school nurse who is available to work with DCPS students and families to provide basic health services and to ensure that students in need have quality care during the school day. Each DCPS school is provided part-time or full-time nursing coverage between 8 am-4:30 pm, Mondays-Fridays, during the school year and during the summer if DCPS summer school is in operation at the school site. This paper addresses two frequent overgeneralisations in the orphanhood literature in Africa: about the vulnerability of children and about orphans. It specifically examines school attendance, given the common presumption that orphans are less likely to attend school than non-orphans. Using survey data from two regions in Tanzania, analysis by primary school attendance categories (regular attenders, irregular attenders, dropouts, never attenders) shows that orphans should not be compared only with non-orphans since there are other vulnerable groups of children, all with different levels of social and spatial disadvantage. Since middle schools vary in their degree of implementation of middle school practices, this research was designed to compare the job satisfaction of middle school teachers with the degree of implementation of these practices. Six teachers from each of Colorados 50 schools with the name middle school were randomly selected to serve as subjects of the study. The original and one followup mailing yielded 252 responses (a 74 percent return) to the Purdue Teacher Opinionaire and the Middle School Practices Index. In addition to teacher satisfaction and the degree of implementation of middle school practices, the size of the student body and a number of teacher demographic variables were also considered. Analysis of variance and correlations were used to analyze the data. The findings indicate that overall job satisfaction of middle school faculty does not vary significantly in low, medium, or high implementation schools. The purpose of this project was to examine the effect of participating in music on student school engagement and academic achievement in a Metropolitan Nashville Public School district. Student records for the class of 2012 (N = 6,006) in a major urban school district were collected and examined for student personal characteristics, music participation, their indicated level of school engagement, and their academic achievements. These variables were examined using Structural Equation Modeling techniques. Results indicated that the quantity of Music Participation had an important effect on both the level of School Engagement and Academic Achievement. BACKGROUND We performed a multicenter controlled trial to assess the knowledge and attitude (KA) about cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) among secondary school children in a district in Malaysia. METHODS This was a prospective intervention study. The primary endpoint of the study was to determine the level of KA about resuscitation after CPR training. The six schools and classes from selected schools were chosen by randomization among the form three and four classes using sealed envelopes. A fully validated questionnaire consisting of three sections (sociodemographic, knowledge and attitude) was given to the pupils before and 2 weeks after the intervention. The intervention group was given a lecture, video show, pamphlet and 1-h practical session on CPR training. The control group received a placebo in order to overcome the learning effect.
