This paper discusses Scandinavian gold foil figures from the early part of the Late Iron Age (AD 550-1050). The author presents two major points of interest that have been neglected in previous research. The first highlights how the manipulations the figures have undergone must be taken into consideration, which is accomplished with the help of theatre theory, semiotics and anthropology. The second places an emphasis on how the context from which the figures have been retrieved must be analysed. Consequently, from the example of a ceremonial building at Uppåkra, Sweden, it is contended that the figures were made by artisans/smiths that, apart from expertly making the figures, also acted as ritual specialists when the structure was built or inaugurated. As such, they were responsible for depositing specific figures in particular, designated and pivotal places that needed protection or other ritual treatment. The gold foil figures further highlight the intertwinement between subject and object, ...

This book makes the under-explored argument that modern international law was built on the foundations of Roman law and Roman imperial practice. A pivotal figure in this enterprise was the Italian Protestant Alberico Gentili (1552-1608), the great Oxford Roman law scholar and advocate, whose books and legal opinions on law, war, empire, embassies, and maritime issues framed the emerging structure of inter-state relations in terms of legal rights and remedies drawn from Roman law, and built on Roman and scholastic theories of just war and imperial justice. The chapters examine the theory and practice of justice and law in Roman imperial wars and administration; Gentilis use of Roman materials; the influence on Gentili of Vitoria and Bodin and his impact on Grotius and Hobbes; and the ideas and influence of Gentili and other major thinkers from the 16th to the 18th centuries on issues, such as preventive self-defence, punishment, piracy, Europes political and mercantile relations with the Ottoman Empire
Roman Dacia (also Dacia Traiana Trajan Dacia or Dacia Felix Happy Dacia) was a province of the Roman Empire from 106 to 274-275 AD. Its territory consisted of eastern and south-eastern Transylvania, the Banat and Oltenia (regions of modern Romania). It was from the very beginning organized as an imperial province, fitting a border area, and remained so throughout the Roman occupation. Historians estimates of the population of Roman Dacia range from 650,000 to 1,200,000. The conquest of Dacia was completed by Emperor Trajan (98-117) after two major campaigns against Decebalus Dacian kingdom. The Romans did not occupy the entirety of the old Dacian kingdom, as the greater part of Moldavia, together with Maramureș and Crișana, was ruled by Free Dacians even after the Roman conquest. In 119, the Roman province was divided into two departments: Dacia Superior (Upper Dacia) and Dacia Inferior (Lower Dacia; later named Dacia Malvensis). In 124 (or around 158), Dacia Superior was divided into ...
Bathing was central to Roman society. It was the pinnacle of sophisticated leisure and of cleanliness. After the collapse of the Roman Empire, even the most highranking people in European society were distinctly grubby and smelly! It would be thousands of years before anything approaching the same level of technology and importance developed anywhere in Europe. Yet Roman baths and bathing culture influenced the spas and baths that grew out of the medieval period. Today, where significant structures remain, as in Leicester city centre, Caerleon in Wales, and especially in Bath, they are once again great visitor attractions. Bath, with its restored bathhouses, is perhaps the most famous and boasts the most intact Roman system remaining in Europe. This book explores the importance of water and cleanliness to the Romans, as well as the role of the baths in Roman life and the engineering behind them. Rotherham also explains the fate of the baths since the decline of the Roman Empire. Finally, we find ...
Farewell Britannia is a vivid, gripping account of life in Roman Britain by 33-year-old Roman and Dark Age historian Simon Young. A work of fictionalised history it offers a series of well-crafted and entertaining stories based on archaeological and historical proofs: all carefully sourced at the books end.. A family history, Farewell Britannia is written from the perspective of a fifth-century Romano-Briton, following on from the apocalyptic finale of Roman rule in the island. And, in the wrecked remains of his villa, this narrator recounts the experiences of 15 of his most interesting but not always his most respectable ancestors to give colour to the rapidly receding Roman past.. The well-known events of Roman Britain are all here, of course: scouting for Caesars expedition in 55 BC; the Roman invasion in 43 AD; Boudiccas revolt and the massacre of 70,000 Romans; the Pictish attacks on Hadrians Wall; the infamous Barbarian Conspiracy of 367; and the departure of the legions in ...

For a long time, they denied their feelings for each other. She also brought along their daughter, Carrie. Roman was in quite a bind there. He thought she had died after their whirlwind courtship, where in fact, she had run away, and claimed to have been taken into white slavery. Roman and Marlena married soon after that and she became pregnant Too bad she thought he was dead. He wasnt, and soon returned to her after his undercover operation was over. After a scuffle with Stefano, Roman was presumed dead and a widowed Marlena was left to raise their two children along with Carrie. This chapter outlines prospective numismatic contributions to the quantification of the Roman economy. Attention is drawn to the potential of the programme of metal analysis of the Roman silver coinage being undertaken by Ponting and Butcher. By way of example, four economic topics which may be illuminated by their work are identified: (1) the use of debasement as an indicator of the fiscal inadequacy of the Roman Empire; (2) the analysis of the extent to which price change was driven by monetary change; (3) the relevance to economic modelling of the extent to which monetary change proceeded in parallel across the Roman world; and (4) the significance of the maintenance of a fixed bimetallic system to our understanding of the Roman economy and its potential contribution to economic theory.
Organisers: José Remesal Rodríguez (CEIPAC-UB), Víctor Revilla Calvo (CEIPAC-UB), Antoni Martín i Oliveras (CEIPAC-UB), and Daniel J. Martín-Arroyo Sánchez (CEIPAC-UB). How was the ancient Roman economy organized and how can our understanding be enhanced by new theoretical and methodological approaches? Recent work on model building, complex network analysis and computer simulation technologies has integrated and analysed diverse data sets - literary sources, settlement evidence, ceramics, amphorae, epigraphy, ethnographical data - in order to reassess production, marketing and consumption across the Roman world. Examples include the Monte Testaccio Project (Baetican oil), the Cella Vinaria Project (Laetanian wine) and the Riparia Project (Baetican wine), as well as many other collaborative research initiatives around the Mediterranean and wider Roman world.. The principal objective of this session is to explore how quantitative methods and semantic-based data management techniques can ...
A major health problem in older people is age-associated osteoporosis -- the thinning of bone and the loss of bone density that increases the risk of fractures. Researchers have now detailed an underlying mechanism leading to that osteoporosis. When this mechanism malfunctions, progenitor cells stop creating bone-producing cells, and instead create fat cells. Knowledge of this mechanism can provide targets in the search for novel bone-loss.

This thesis argues that the spatial organisation of the built environment in north-eastern England between c. 100 BC-AD 800 reflects the complexities of culture contact, the transmission of ideas, and social change. It is suggested here that the examination of space and place in Britain between the late Iron Age (c. 100 BC-AD 43), Roman (c. AD 43-410) and Early Medieval (c. AD 410 to 800) periods can be used to analyse the changes and/or continuities in socio-cultural ideas and traditions. Two study regions to the north and south of Hadrians Wall within the boundaries of the Anglo-Saxon Kingdom of Northumbria are analysed using established and innovative computational techniques to understand what affect, if any, the inhabitants of Iron Age and Roman Britain had on the shape of the Early Medieval built environment. Settlement data was compiled into a Geographical Information System and established spatial analysis techniques that focus on site placement were combined with an innovative use of ...
The ancient Roman units of measurement were largely built on the Hellenic system, which in turn was built upon Egyptian and Mesopotamian influences.[citation needed] The Roman units were comparatively consistent and well documented. The basic unit of Roman linear measurement was the pes or Roman foot (plural: pedes). Investigation of its relation to the English foot goes back at least to 1647, when John Greaves published his Discourse on the Romane foot. Greaves visited Rome in 1639, and measured, among other things, the foot measure on the tomb of Titus Statilius Aper, that on the statue of Cossutius formerly in the gardens of Angelo Colocci, the congius of Vespasian previously measured by Villalpandus, a number of brass measuring-rods found in the ruins of Rome, the paving-stones of the Pantheon and many other ancient Roman buildings, and the distance between the milestones on the Appian Way. He concluded that the Cossutian foot was the true Roman foot, and reported these values compared to ...
The Romans of the early Roman Kingdom, the ones who started as sheep and cattle farmers and turned fighters during the war season, were a restrained, austere lot. Religion and morality were the essences of survival of the community in a hostile environment.. Religion and morality were the foundation of Roman society and religion had, at least in the early days, a fundamental influence in the government of ancient Rome: the earliest kings based their right to rule on their own personal hotline with various Roman deities. Romulus, the founder of Rome actually ascended to the heavens as the god Quirinus. Others after him spoke directly with gods and demigods for advice.. Roman rulers eventually divorced themselves from divine influences and opted for a mechanism of state and written laws voted by the Senate (council of elders). The system of laws generated by the Roman civilisation belies a great deal of time and effort spent on debates and decisions over what might be considered right or wrong, ...
An even better example, because a closer parallel to the present instance, is the twilight of the Roman world. Ancient Rome had a sophisticated economic system in which credit and government stimulus programs played an important role. Roman money, though, was based strictly on precious metals, and the economic expansion of the late Republic and early Empire was made possible only because Roman armies systematically looted the wealth of most of the known world. More fatal still was the shift that replaced a sustainable village agriculture across most of the Roman world with huge slave-worked latifundiae, the industrial farms of their day, which were treated as cash cows by absentee owners and, in due time, were milked dry. The primary economy cracked as topsoil loss caused Roman agriculture to fail; attempts by emperors to remedy the situation failed in turn, and the Roman government was reduced to debasing the coinage in an attempt to meet a rising spiral of military costs driven by civil wars ...

The Roman Monuments, Cathedral of St. Peter and Church of Our Lady in Trier are the testimonies of a Roman colony and its recognition of Christianity. Even before the Romans came there was a settlement in this valley. It belonged to the Gallo-Celtic tribe Treveri. Upon their culture, from which remains still can be seen in the regional museum, stumbled Julius Caesar when he conquered this territory in 57 BC. With Caesar the 500 year long Roman history of Trier began. The city became a cross-roads and a commercial link between major towns in France and along the Rhine. Trier has a classic rectangular layout, with the Forum (including the most important buildings) in the center. There were also several Roman Baths in town. The oldest preserved building is the Amphitheatre, dating from 100 AD. During the reign of Constantine the Great (306-337), Trier became an even more splendid city. He built the Dome/Cathedral, the Imperial Baths, the Basilica and several more Christian places of worship (as ...

The Institute has a number of staff actively working on the Iron Age, with a geographical coverage from Egypt, the ancient Near East, Italy (Tuscany (the Etruscans), Marche and Puglia), and the Black Sea (Scythians) to continental Europe and the British Isles. Collectively, their work offers a large-scale comparative archaeology of the first millennium BC and considers the long-term evolution of settlement and landscape. Foci of research include: Iron Age societies in Britain and western Europe, urban and rural societies; socio-political identities and theoretical approaches to culture contact and change and the relations of local Iron Age communities with the Roman world; and the social contexts and materials science of Iron Age artefacts - metal artefacts, ceramics, and textiles ...
The goal of the project is to examine the nutrition of the Celtic population in Switzerland in the Late Iron Age. The investigation of geographical regions, sex, age categories, time periods and social strata provide us with statements about human mobility, living and environmental conditions. The samples come from 23 archaeological sites throughout Switzerland. Collagen and structural carbonate fractions of the excavated bone will be extracted. Stable isotopes from the light elements carbon, nitrogen, sulphur, hydrogen and oxygen will be measured in a mass-spectrometer.. Investigations of the nutrition include evidence about consumption of plant sources (carbon), animal protein (nitrogen), fresh water and/or salt water fish (sulphur, nitrogen and carbon) and fat (carbon). The different resources can be identified by creating a food web showing the animal species that were the diet of the Celts. The examined individuals can be assigned to different geographical regions by stable oxygen and ...
From the time of Augustus, the Roman agrimensores or land surveyors provided an important connection between those who administrated the Empire on the one hand, and the territories and peoples they controlled on the other. This work is an investigation into the surveyors use of the cultural capital of Roman society to fashion their own identity as experts in the organisation and regulation of land, and their influence on the shape of discourse about Empire. The study focuses on four questions: 1) What was the nature of the relationship between the agrimensores or surveyors and the Roman provincial administration? 2) What was the nature of the relationship between the agrimensores and the people of the Empire whose lands they surveyed? An emphasis will be placed on the population of Italy and the Roman provinces away from the city of Rome itself. 3) How did the surveyors validate their activities as technical specialists, and under what circumstances did the agrimensores undertake surveying ...

The Roman Theatre at Mérida, Spain From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia History It was founded in the year 25 BC, with the name of Emerita Augusta (meaning the bachelors - discharged soldiers - of the army of Augustus, who founded the city; the name Mérida is an evolution of this) by order of Emperor Augustus, to protect a pass and a bridge over the Guadiana river. Two veteran legions were the former settlers: Ⅴ Alaudae and Ⅹ Gemina. The city became the capital of Lusitania province, and one of the most important cities in the Roman empire. Mérida preserves more important ancient Roman monuments than any other city in Spain (including a triumphal arch of the age of Trajan); because of this, the Archaeological Ensemble of Mérida is a World Heritage site.

Greek curses of the 5th and 4th centuries BC are usually short, often comprising only names. Over time however curse texts become lengthier and more complex. By the late Roman period many tablets include formulae to bind the victim and appeal to a wide company of deities and spirits to enact the curse. They also add magical terms, characters and drawings to the text (see People, goods and gods - the workings of magic). The longer texts fall into several categories. Curses directed against legal opponents in court or commercial competitors are well represented in Classical and Hellenistic Attica. Common in the later Roman world are curses aimed at participants in spectacles and games, including actors and athletes and especially chariot teams. A curse found from a grave near the circus in Carthage (see Creating the curse - plumbing the depths) expresses typical sentiments: ...Bind the horses whose names and images/likeness on this implement I entrust to you: of the Red (team)... of the Blues... ...

Greek and Roman Mythology Greek and Roman Mythology In the times of the ancient Greeks and Romans, there were many things that held similarities as well as things that were not as similar, wondrous trading and agriculture skills, great warriors, architecture, and mythology just to name a few. However, their life values were opposing, the Romans were more apt to take what they wanted without regard for life, whereas the Greeks were more in tune with Nature. The Mythology that they shared was similar but different in the aspects as how they saw their deities.. Their Gods and Goddesses were not worshipped as that of the Christian God of today. The Greeks were more focused on life here on earth and the ideas and thought that a mans worth was judged here in this life and his good deeds and services would follow him onto the afterlife. Whereas, the Romans believed that good deeds done on Earth would follow them to heaven, if they were done properly and enough of the good deeds were done, then they ...

To write a social history of the Roman Empire which does justice to its variety is an almost impossible task and the brilliant essay of Rostovtseff has found few continuators. Historians have preferred to concentrate upon three approaches which must be combined in a general survey but which in a particular treatment can receive different emphases. A.H.M. Jones in his Later Roman Empire attempted a chronologically restricted account: Meiggs and Levick have preferred to concentrate upon a particular city or area throughout the period of Roman rule: Kunkel set out to demonstrate the vicissitudes of one particular social group, the Roman lawyers. Each of these approaches, if followed to the exclusion of the others, leads to a sterile antiquarianism, and in this thesis which aims to delineate the medical profession in the Roman Empire, I have endeavoured to combine them as far as possible. The social position of a doctor can only be fully understood within his area and within a chronological ...
Before stem cell research was on everyones minds and before the phrase regenerative medicine was familiar to most scientists, The Roman Reed Spinal Cord Injury Research Act of 1999 funded research into treating paralysis. It was a revolutionary piece of legislation, named after my friend Roman Reed, a true hero. Roman was playing college football when he got a spinal cord injury.. Roman and his dad, Don C. Reed, are responsible for much of the progress that has been made in stem cell research for spinal cord injury.. Unfortunately, the Act no longer receives public funding, but we can change that. There is a bill, AB 190, that will be voted on by the Public Safety Committee right here in Sacramento, not too far from my lab, on April 5th. If it passes, a $3 fine will be tacked onto the tickets for reckless drivers (who sometimes cause spinal cord injuries in the first place) to fund the Roman Reed Act. This may mean up to $11 million in funding spinal cord injury research. However, if the ...
Thesis Title. Grave matters: identity construction and oriental imports in the eastern Viking world. Research Interests. Late Iron Age/Viking Age, Islamic imports, Baltic, Russia, Scandinavia, funerary archaeology, trade and exchange, identity construction. My thesis re-evaluates graves with so-called oriental objects from a number of Late Iron Age (i.e. Viking Age, 800-1050 CE) cemeteries in Sweden, Finland, and north-western Russia. In this context, oriental objects should be understood as items imported from the Islamic world, but also from steppe communities in Russia, of which some (for instance, the Volga Bulghars) began to convert to Islam around the turn of the 10th century. I aim to increase our understanding of how these types of imported items were used in identity construction processes, using the burial ritual as a proxy owing to its utility as a formalised, albeit diverse, context for cultural expression. By interpreting and reconstructing the burial ritual through item ...
In 43 AD, the Romans finally - after decades of flip-flopping - decide to conquer Britain. The British-Celtic tribes in the island would, however, be confronted not only by a professional Roman army that was about 50,000 strong. The Romans decided to also bring some war elephants along for the ride. Beachcombing has always wanted to know what on earth the Britons did when they saw these frightening and unfamiliar creatures.. Cassius Dio, our main source for the invasion tells how, 60.21, the elephants came to the island in the second stage of the campaign. The Roman commander Aulus Plautius had halted his troops after fording the Thames and had then sent for the Emperor Claudius. And it was Claudius who arrived with extensive equipment, including elephants to finish off the Britons of the south. The elephants in Britain may have even been part of the Emperors order of battle: there is certainly something characteristically Claudian about their presence - academically perverse (they fit well ...
God, Space, and City in the Roman Imagination is a unique exploration of the relationship between the ancient Romans visual and literary cultures and their imagination. Drawing on a vast range of ancient sources, poetry and prose, texts, and material culture from all levels of Roman society, it analyses how the Romans used, conceptualized, viewed, and moved around their city.
An 1,800-year-old carved stone head of what is believed to be a Roman god has been unearthed in an ancient rubbish dump. Archaeologists made the discovery at Binchester Roman Fort, near Bishop Auckland in County Durham, England. First year Durham University archaeology student Alex Kirton found the artefact, which measures about 20cm by 10cm, in buried late Roman rubbish within what was probably a bath house. The sandstone head, which dates from the 2nd or 3rd century AD, has been likened to the Celtic deity Antenociticus, thought to have been worshipped as a source of inspiration and intercession in military affairs. A similar sandstone head, complete with an inscription identifying it as Antenociticus, was found at Benwell, in Newcastle upon Tyne, in 1862. Dr David Petts, Lecturer in Archaeology at Durham University, said: We found the Binchester head close to where a small Roman altar was found two years ago. We think it may have been associated with a small shrine in the bath house and ...

A novel actinobacterium, strain BC640T, was isolated from a biofilm sample collected in 2009 in the Saint Callistus Roman catacombs. Analysis of the 16S rRNA gene sequence showed that the strain belonged to the genus Kribbella . Phylogenetic analysis using the 16S rRNA gene and concatenated gyrB, rpoB, relA, recA and atpD gene sequences showed that strain BC640T was most closely related to the type strains of Kribbella yunnanensis and Kribbella sandramycini . Based on gyrB genetic distance analysis, strain BC640T was shown to be distinct from all Kribbella type strains. DNA-DNA hybridization experiments confirmed that strain BC640T represents a genomic species distinct from its closest phylogenetic relatives, K. yunnanensis DSM 15499T (53.5±7.8 % DNA relatedness) and K. sandramycini DSM 15626T (33.5±5.0 %). Physiological comparisons further showed that strain BC640T is phenotypically distinct from the type strains of K. yunnanensis and K. sandramycini . Strain BC640T ( = DSM 26744T = NRRL B

Now, if Romans were 12 chapters long it would be easy to decide at what pace to read from day to day: one chapter per month. But it is 16 chapters, which means in my daily devotional journaling I will need to cover about one and a third chapters per month. Being a bit of a geek about such things, I decided to look more carefully at the matter. There are 433 verses in Romans. That means I should maintain about a 37 verse per month rate in order not to fall behind. This may seem a little obsessive, but heres how it might break down. In each month, I will devotionally read and meditate on the following passages of Romans, taking me through the entire book in the course of a year. I have tried to divide the monthly passages in a way that doesnt divide a paragraph or argument ...
2. CN. SERVILIUS CN. F. CN. N. CAEPIO, was probably a grandson, and not a son, of No. 1. He was elected pontiff in the place of C. Papirius Maso, B. C. 213; curule aedile in 207, when he celebrated the Roman games three times; praetor in 205, when he obtained the city jurisdiction; and consul in 203. In his consulship he had Bruttii assigned to him as his province, and he was the last Roman general who fought with Hannibal in Italy. The engagement took place in the neighbourhood of Crotona, but no particulars of it are preserved. When Hannibal quitted Italy, Caepio passed over into Sicily, with the intention of crossing from thence to Africa. In order to prevent this, the senate, who feared that the consul would not obey their commands, created a dictator, P. Sulpicius Galba, who recalled Caepio to Italy. In B. C. 192, Caepio was sent with other legates into Greece, to encourage the Roman allies in the prospect of the war with Antiochus. He died in the pestilence in 174. (Liv. 25.2, 28.10, 38, ...

Natural cements calcined at low temperatures, so-called Roman cements, formed an important binder material in 19th century construction and facade decoration of many European cities and towns. As a rule, Roman cement mortars appear well preserved. In order to understand their range of composition and properties, a number of samples from historic buildings were collected and analyzed. Microscopic techniques including scanning electron microscopy were employed along with the assessment of physicomechanical properties. The study shows that the most significant feature of Roman cement mortars is a wide range of differently calcined clinker relicts within each mortar. These unreactive particles, classified as being either overfired or underfired, obviously play an important role for the mortar properties. The binder relicts are composed of a number of phases in the system Ca-Si-Al-Fe. C2S and C2AS (gehlenite) are among the most frequent compounds, their grain size and microstructure depending on ...

Since Columbus Day is a day to celebrate discovery of America, I would like to announce that I take claim to discovering solid evidence that there had been a Roman Legionary/Naval Expedition sent by the Roman Emperor Vespasian to North America. I also have excellent evidence that the expedition (more then likely a portion of the expedition) returned to Europe. I believe that the legionary expedition in question came to mine ores in the mountains of West Virginia (WV) as well as to proclaim that territory and its native peoples as in the orbit of Rome. The ores of interest appear to have been titanium and aluminum, or alloys that incorporated those metals. I further propose that while in North America, the Legionaries raised and trained an auxiliary from a Native American people. I believe that the Cherokee People, as demonstrated by certain beliefs and traditions, may very well be descendants of those ancient Native Americans who were in that auxiliary. I would also like to announce that ...

In times of violence, people tend to hide their valuables, which are later recovered unless the owners had been killed or driven away. Thus, the temporal distribution of unrecovered coin hoards is an excellent proxy for the intensity of internal warfare. We use this relationship to resolve a long-standing controversy in Roman history. Depending on who was counted in the early Imperial censuses (adult males or the entire citizenry including women and minors), the Roman citizen population of Italy either declined, or more than doubled, during the first century BCE. This period was characterized by a series of civil wars, and historical evidence indicates that high levels of sociopolitical instability are associated with demographic contractions. We fitted a simple model quantifying the effect of instability (proxied by hoard frequency) on population dynamics to the data before 100 BCE. The model predicts declining population after 100 BCE. This suggests that the vigorous growth scenario is highly ...

In article ,32909FFB.70B1 at vir.com,, Cathouse at vir.com says... , ,I have been trying to find primary source information about the various ,species of fungi consumed by the ancient Romans. The copy of Apicius ,Cookery book which I have been consulting lists recipes for truffles ,(tubera), tree fungi (fungi farnei), and mushrooms (boletos, boleti). ,The translator has rendered boletos as simply mushroom but mentions ,that there is some dispute as to whether boletos refers to the common ,agaric or whether it refers to Caesars mushroom (Amanita caesarea). I ,am puzzled by this as my initial thought was that it referred to Boletus ,edulis which remain one of the most popular mushrooms in Italy. Is ,there a taxonomist out there who knows the solution to my problem? If ,boletos in primary sources does refer to Boletus edulis can anyone ,tell me what the ancient Romans called Amanita caesarea? Anyone ,information at all related to this would be very much appreciated and ,can either be posted ...

The aim of this study is to analyze the effects of rates of change of the olive oil amphorae to explore the production dynamics in the Roman Empire. In this case Cultural Evolution theory will be applied to the material culture study because is considered a useful tool to understand the variability of the mechanisms of changes. This analysis can be developed by the fact that we detect differences in the amphorae production through time that they might explain this dynamic of change. In this context, it will be presented a research where this methodology has been used to show its capacity to detect the culture trajectories. In particular, our case of study has been focused to understand the dynamics of change of olive oil amphorae production found in Baetica (currently Andalusia) during the Roman Empire (1st-3rd century AD). Specifically, multivariable methods have been applied to distinguish pottery assemblages among different kinds of shapes that it could serve to identify discontinuities in ...
