It is the same with our relationship to American history and to our current government. When we place our officials on untouchable pedastols, we strip them of their human qualities and, by doing so, we blind ourselves to the plain reality of their faults. (Side note: It is almost paradoxical Americans liked Bush cause he was just a regular guy, and many of those who elected him for this reason refuse to accept the limitations and faults that their "regular guy" president has.) Accepting the defects of our govenment and the human frailties of our leaders is not unpatriotic; in fact, it can deepen ones patriotism, for if our leaders are flawed like we are then what is stopping us from becoming leaders ourselves. We each hold a stake in this country and its future narrative, but before we work together towards a "more perfect union", we must first embrace its past and present imperfections. Winston Churchill once said, "Democracy is the worst form of government..." at face value a cynical take, ...

Ive devoted a number of my posts to the topic of leader development. In this post, Id like to say more about what I mean by leader development because my thinking doesnt come from a view that leaders are solely those at the top of organisations. Furthermore, and perhaps more importantly, when I talk about…
This year, the biggest buzzword on the internet, and in the economy at large, has been B2B. New Web exchanges and established industry leaders are touting e-commerce as a newly discovered font of savings. But many industries have been doing business-to-business e-commerce for years. For most, B2B is still spelled EDI.
group becomes a precondition for realizing these rights. Consequently, internal schisms and disagreements are perceived as a threat to the ability of the group to protect its rights. Group leaders are therefore motivated to foster unanimity, or at least an appearance of unanimity, even at the cost of internal oppression.. Attempts to achieve unanimity are particularly dangerous in those communities which lack formal, democratic decision-making processes. Under such circumstances it is the elderly of the tribe, members of councils of sages, who determine the groups norms and interests. Members of such bodies are commonly men, who endorse a rather orthodox point of view. Social norms and institutions place these individuals within a dominant position, and group rights consolidate this position even further. Granting nondemocratic communities group rights thus amounts to siding with the privileged and the powerful against those who are powerless, oppressed, and marginalized, with the ...

very interesting subject that I have thought a lot about lately with my job and responsibilities on that job. I am often the leader, but on this job I found it difficult to lead. I dont know if it is my style or a lack confidence, but I didnt have the role except that the workers were told that I was in charge or that I was the boss. But, I think being the leader cant just be a label or assignment. As the article that you linked to said; the followers have to follow or, in other words they choose the leader, and I think that they will often reject someone that is pushed on them by management or other authorities ...

Inhibition of SL RNA synthesis, which is transcribed by pol II, should eliminate mRNA production by blocking trans‐splicing. We examined next the level of SL RNA and compared it to other small RNAs transcribed by pol I and pol III, such as 5.8S ribosomal RNA, U6 snRNA and 7SL RNA. Significant RNA reduction was observed only for SL RNA (Fig 2A).. To examine trans‐splicing during SRα depletion directly, the level of the Y structure intermediate was determined in steady‐state mRNA. This resulted in two principal extension products: the Y structure and the mature capped SL RNA. The results (Fig 2B) indicate that the level of Y structure was reduced by 78%±5 compared with uninduced cells, and this corresponds to the decrease in the level of SL RNA. This suggests that during SRα depletion, the reduction in the Y structure is not the result of splicing defects, but is due to a reduction in the level of SL RNA.. Next we examined, using the permeable cell system, whether nascent SL RNA ...

... Leaders Are Petty Thieves Who Breeds On Fears & Lies. Sometimes community leaders have ill intent, but this is not always the case. But those who have not righteousness in their hearts, tend to want to control the people in the community for their own selfish ends. They persuade people to think along their lines of reasoning that is often wrong in order to control the resources that comes into the community to help the people, such as government grants, foundation and private grants so forth. They do this with the intent of shaving some of the money off of the top to line their pockets, meanwhile the people believe due to their popularity, power and influence outside of the community (among whites) that they are doing something good for the community, when often in reality they are just robbing the people and selling information to keep other people down and repressed.. Philanthropic (charitable) giving is already set aside to help the poor and needy and community leaders are often ...

It boggles my mind that only 16% of HR managers see employees as having primary responsibility for engagement?. I see it differently. I believe employees have the primary responsibility for their own engagement. As in that little poem: "If it is to be, it is up to me.". I refuse to lose my personal responsibility. I refuse to put my engagement in the hands of someone else because that makes me helpless. If I am not engaged it makes it hard to change with the likelihood that I will believe myself to be helpless as I am the victim and senior leaders and managers are the villains.. Accountable not responsible. Having said this I believe that managers and leaders are accountable for engagement just as employees are accountable for the impact they have on others engagement.. Did we forget that leaders and managers are employees? Oh by the way, did we stop seeing managers and senior leaders as employees. They are employees of the organization so why would there be a separate category for employees, ...
If the organization LLLI* is not serving you at this time, how could it? The first question, as noted, is very similar to those asked as part of Leader Roles. Those interested in holding a conversation circle can print suggestions directly from the web site. These conversation starters are intended to be used at Chapter meetings, Area Council meetings, Leader workshops, Area Conferences, and in any of your LLL email groups.. Telling your story is an opportunity to brag a little and share good ideas with others - in many languages! While reports and statistics present a picture of what Leaders are doing at a given time and place - and are very helpful for planning - the stories behind the numbers add color and depth to the picture. When we share our stories about how we help mothers breastfeed their babies, the ways we work together as an organization, and what our dreams for the future are, we are blending the many threads of our LLL culture into a tapestry that presents a rich picture of who we ...

There is a small group of individuals at Occupy Dame Street who could be called quite hostile to the unions - for a number of reasons, some quite at odds with each other. The vast majority are simply not familiar with unions, beyond having seen various union leaders on the RTE News being pally with Haughey, Reynolds, Bertie and now Enda. These union leaders are perceived, more or less correctly, as part of the 1%. This engenders a suspicion of the unions that will not be broken down by a party like the SWP, a party that nobody trusts who is trying to browbeat everyone else into an alliance based on their standard intervention methods as sketched above.. To put it crudely everyone needs to calm the fuck down, back the fuck off and create the space where some real discussion about how best to work with the radical end of the unions can take place. The discussion and debate needs to become one within the movement rather than one between the movement and the SWP. While it would be tragic if the ...
As leaders we must be able to recognize our faults and take action on them immediately or we will suffer greater in the long run. By recognizing that he had the wrong horse for the wrong job, the owner cut his losses immediately and did not have to invest more time and money into an employee who had neither the attitude nor motivation to succeed in their job. By identifying his mistake in making a bad hire and empowering his employee who did have the right attributes, the owner now put himself in a win/win situation. The first win being that he had an employee who would lead by example and the second win being that through leadership he made it very clear what his expectations as a leader are ...
For me, this was a turning point in my career. I now knew I would not be there long-term. I would part with my employer at some point because one of us would become disenchanted with the other and terminate our relationship.. I had many reasons that led me to leave my corporate career. What came to me "the day of the email" is that I could not trust this leader or others like him. He had alienated me. This compromised his ability to lead me.. I had to wonder what else he was oblivious to. What other factors was he not considering in business decisions because of sheer lack of awareness or interest?. I know this is not unusual. Certain leaders are disconnected from the human beings who happen to be employees. Thank goodness we all have the freedom and agency to make decisions in our favor if we feel we are not respected for what motivates us and what we contribute.. ...
