Background: Early mortality after dialysis initiation is common among older adults. Information on an individuals risk of death may influence the decision to initiate dialysis. Objective: To develop a clinical risk prediction tool for mortality within six and twelve months of dialysis initiation, for older adults. Methods: Eligible individuals were adults age ≥65 who initiated chronic dialysis between May 1, 2003 and March 31, 2012. Measures of demographics, laboratory values, health-usage and comorbidity were potential predictors of early mortality. We used logistic regression to predict mortality, and created a point score system. Results: The six- and twelve-month tools included age, glomerular filtration rate, atrial fibrillation, lymphoma, chronic heart failure, prior hospitalization and metastatic cancer. Using human health risk assessment(HRA) procedures to determine the remediation or redevelopment of contaminated site has become a new research area.In the paper,based on the future land use patterns,the HRA model was applied to evaluate the health risk brought by PAHs contamination in a site for redevelopment.The results indicated that under the two exposure scenarios including the normal condition and the extreme condition,and three exposures,including inhalation exposures,dermal exposures and ingestion exposures,the carcinogenic risk brought by PAHs contamination was comparatively high,and exceed the acceptable health risk lever in several sites.Take the sensitive children for example,the risk-based PAHs remedial goal of 634 μg/kg was calculated for reducing the carcinogenic risk to acceptable level under the extreme condition.In future,with the development of environmental management,the HRA should be strengthening during urban land redevelopment.
Stochastic Risk Assessment for Structural Safety. Through the United States the structural safety of major and/or innovative structures has become a serious concern for engineers and to the general public. The objective of this paper is to present an integrated risk assessment methodology for structural safety. The practical applicability and versatility of this integrated methodology has been illustrated based on a priori probabilities for specific events. The risk assessment process includes two major components: 1) risk estimation, and 2) risk acceptability analysis. For the risk estimation, a quantitative analysis procedure incorporating the event tree and fault tree has been developed. For the risk acceptability analysis, a revealed preference model based on the anatomy of risks for a reinforced concrete structure has been formulated.

Type 2 Diabetes (T2D) is a chronic disease arising from the development of insulin absence or resistance within the body, and a complex interplay of environmental and genetic factors. The incidence of T2D has increased throughout the last few decades, together with the occurrence of the obesity epidemic. The consideration of variants identified by Genome Wide Association Studies (GWAS) into risk assessment models for T2D could aid in the identification of at-risk patients who could benefit from preventive medicine. In this study, we build several risk assessment models, and evaluated them with two different classification approaches (Logistic Regression and Neural Networks), to measure the effect of including genetic information in the prediction of T2D.
