Many people search only in their local neighborhood or city for residential treatment centers. This may not be the best choice. For many addicts and alcoholics, a geographic separation is a better option. It allows them to focus fully on getting better, without being tempted back into familiar surroundings and companions who supported the addictions.. While drug and alcohol treatment services are offered in many places and locations, detox and residential treatment programs are statistically the most effective initial levels of care. Someone with a drug or alcohol addiction needs the right treatment, at the right time and in the right setting. This means a personalized, attentive approach that is rarely available in large clinical facilities who treat hundreds of patients at a time. Inpatient Recovery has a variety of residential treatment centers, including a detox program, within one intimate treatment grounds. The present study aimed to examine the relationship between maladaptive schemas and treatment outcomes of adolescent and adult women with an eating disorder receiving residential treatment. Existing data were obtained from 67 females aged 11 to 47 years (m =18.61) that had entered residential treatment for anorexia nervosa (AN), bulimia nervosa (BN), or eating disorder not otherwise specified (EDNOS) at a Western United States residential eating disorder treatment facility. Pre- and posttreatment data were collected by the personnel at the facility on eating disorder symptomatology, mood, and core beliefs. Three hypotheses were tested: (a) that maladaptive schemas would be positively correlated with eating disorder symptom severity, (b) that females endorsing more maladaptive schemas at admission or those with stable maladaptive schemas across their course of treatment would have less favorable posttreatment outcomes at the time of their discharge from residential treatment than females with lower

A residential treatment center (RTC), sometimes called a rehab, is a live-in health care facility providing therapy for substance abuse, mental illness, or other behavioral problems. Residential treatment may be considered the "last-ditch" approach to treating abnormal psychology or psychopathology. In the 1600s, Great Britain established the Poor Law that allowed poor children to become trained in apprenticeships by removing them from their families and forcing them to live in group homes. In the 1800s, the United States copied this system, but often mentally ill children were placed in jail with adults because society did not know what to do with them. There were no RTCs in place to provide the 24-hour care they needed and they were placed in jail when they could not live in the home. In the 1900s, Anna Freud and her peers were part of the Vienna Psychoanalytic Society and they worked on how to care for children. They worked to create residential treatment centers for children and adolescents ...

There is a continuous recognition in the literature of residential treatment of the need for studies to assess the impact of key variables which constitute a residential milieu on the treatment environment and, by implication, on the treatment outcome. One key variable is staff cohesion. The present study explored the effect of varying levels of staff cohesion on the treatment environment in a residential treatment center for disturbed adolescents. The results suggest that the variables Support, Personal Problem Orientation, Autonomy, Practical Orientation, and Staff Control are significantly affected by varying levels of staff cohesion. However, the clients perception of their environment did not appear to be influenced by staff cohesion level.

Four groups of youth were compared. Two groups received Wraparound services. Both groups were diverted from out-of-state residential treatment centers. The Wraparound Return (WR) group included youth returning from residential treatment. The Wraparound Diversion (WD) group included those who were at-risk of residential treatment. Two other groups received traditional services. The Pre-Wraparound (PW) group had been returned from out-of-state residential programs in the year before the implementation of Wraparound services. The Non-Wraparound (NW) group returned from residential treatment at the same time as the WR group, but did not receive Wraparound services. The authors developed the Community Adjustment Rating Scale, which includes measures of restrictiveness of living, school attendance, job training attendance, and harmful behaviors rated by the youth, parent, and case manager. Method. Participants. Participants were drawn from a sample of 101 veterans receiving outpatient or residential treatment for PTSD at the Baltimore Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC). Specific details regarding treatment setting (e.g., outpatient, residential) were not collected. Recruitment efforts were mostly directed toward veterans participating in outpatient group therapy with some participation by veterans receiving residential treatment. Therefore, at the time of their participation we estimate that approximately two-thirds of the sample was receiving outpatient treatment, and one-third was receiving residential treatment. All veterans seeking treatment for PTSD at the Baltimore VAMC met full criteria for the disorder during a semi-structured intake prior to receiving a referral to the Trauma Recovery Program; the diagnosis of PTSD could have been given related to either a military or civilian trauma. No formal data were recorded for individual participants about the process of PTSD ...
While the final rule doesnt require that residential services be covered, it does require that if a managed care organization (MCO) or health insurers offers "post-acute care services," then they also must cover residential treatment and other intermediate services on the behavioral health side. Simply put, it means that if a health insurance plan covers chemotherapy [a post-acute oncology intervention after hospitalization], then it must cover residential treatment of substance use disorders or eating disorders. The rule ensures that parity applies to intermediate levels of care received in residential treatment or intensive outpatient settings. ...

Antisocial personality disorder (ASPD) is associated with suicide, violence, and risk-taking behavior and can slow response to first-line treatment for Axis I disorders. ASPD may be assessed infrequently because few efficient diagnostic tools are available. This study evaluated 2 promising self-report measures for assessing ASPD--the ASPD scale of the Personality Diagnostic Questionnaire-4 (PDQ-4; S. E. Hyler, 1994) and the Personality Assessment Inventory (PAI; L. Morey, 1991, 2007)--as well as the ASPD module of the Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-IV Axis II (SCID-II; M. B. First, R. L. Spitzer, M. Gibbon, J. B. W. Williams, and L. S. Benjamin, 1997). The measures were administered to 1,345 offenders in court-mandated residential substance abuse treatment programs and prisons. PDQ-4 and PAI scores related strongly to SCID-II symptom counts (rs = .67 and .51, respectively), indicating these measures convey useful clinical information about the severity of offenders ASPD pathology.
