Cooperation An effective worship leader realizes that he is an extended hand of the pastor and that the pastor is actually the worship leader. The worship leader must never assume that he is more in touch with the action of the Holy Spirit than the pastor is. God has placed the pastor in responsibility and the worship leader must never subvert that position. The worship leader must never feel that worship is incomplete if the pastor signals a time to end. To oppose the pastors discernment is an arrogance that can only destroy the worship leaders effectiveness. Occasionally, I see worship leaders who feel they are in charge of the theology of the church and attempt to bring in their own set of teachings through their worship. Sometimes they succeed in supplanting church theology because they are popular and effective. When they do this, they have sacrificed their servanthood and sewn the seeds of division. Invisibility The best leader will try to become invisible as quickly as possible. He ...
Body worship is any practice of physically revering a part of another persons body, and is usually done as a submissive act in the context of BDSM. Typical kinds of body worship include worship of muscles, the penis, the vagina, or the buttocks. Usually accompanied by prostration, re-enforcing a sense of inferiority, a "sub" generally licks, kisses and sucks their dominants body part, and is not allowed to touch it in a more conventional way. This brings aspect of erotic humiliation to submissive partner. Worshipping a body can also be done because the worshipper is in awe of the body part and wishes to praise that beauty. Although encouragement may be provided, verbally or by spanking, body worship is typically received more or less passively, the worshipped party aloof. Facesitting and smothering are forms of body worship which differ chiefly because of their aggressive approach. Body worship is a common theme in the work of Japanese fetish artist Namio Harukawa. Penis worship generally ...
When the humans become part of Dea, he gains all of their knowledge. This means that he knows what drives them to worship him, so he can remake the world in a way that makes them more eager to worship him next time around. He draws power from multiple worlds across the universe/parallel dimensions and can survive without the worship of one of such worlds.. Dea needs this small amount of additional power because he competes with other beings in an eternal game to control the rest and their spheres of worship in the multiverse. Only a certain amount of these spheres can exist because power gained through worship increases with the intelligence of the beings worshiping. If two worlds of these intelligent beings are too close to each other, they will figure out about each other, and therefore might be able to figure out the presence of the Creators when another world gets destroyed, and stop worshiping the creator. The beings could also become Creators by gathering the worship of another world that ...
It is an interesting truth: we become what we worship. That is to say, we emulate-or become like-the people (and things) we most admire. To understand this concept, we have to understand the origins of the word worship. The word worship comes from the Old English worðscip or wurðscip -or worthship-meaning condition of being worthy, dignity, glory, distinction, honor, renown. To worship…
Sri Eklingji in Sanctum. Sri Eklingji, also known as Eknatha, is a beautiful black marble lingam that is said to lengthen to a height of 50 feet tall. We are not sure exactly what lengthen means in this regard. The shikharor tower over the sanctum is also 50 feet high, with a 60 foot circumference.. Eklingajis four faces embody Lord Brahma in the west, Lord Visnu in the north, Maheshwar in the South, and Surya in the east. In later segments of this series we will explore the introduction of Surya and Somaskanda worship in South India, which gradually replaced Brahma worship. Here we see an early example of that trend far to the north, in Rajasthan, where worship of Lord Brahma gave way to Shiva worship.. The flat top of Sri Eklingji is covered with a yantra representing the ultimate reality, Parabhrama, and a silver Naga winds around the lingam. The lingams top is considered by some to be a fifth face, embodying Sadashiva and his consort.. Lord Shivas family also reside here at Eklingji ...
Ive often said that from creation to consummation, people have had problems with proper worship. The first sins were ones of false worship, and so will the last be.. The same is true for the first murder. Cains brutal slaying of his brother stemmed from his anger over his offering of worship not being acceptable to God (Gen. 4:5). In the text we are simply told that God "had no regard" for Cain and his offering. So what, exactly, was Cains problem?. Ive heard much speculation about why God rejected Cains offering, and indeed, speculate we must since the text is not clear as to the problem. However, I think a few clues in Genesis 4, as well as some additional commentary by NT authors, sheds some light on Cains sin.. First, in Genesis 4:5 Moses records that God "had no regard" with respect to two things: (1) Cain and (2) his offering. Already this should clue us in to a two-fold problem; something was wrong with both Cain personally and the offering itself.. Now, we have no revelation ...

Description: Gerald Borchert provides a unique survey of the New Testament by centering on its understanding, teaching, language, and reflections of worship. He seeks to show how worship language and action lie behind much of the New Testament and how the modern church can gain a new power in worship through renewed reflection on the New Testament. Borchert first looks at the larger New Testament unit gospels, Pauline letters, pastorals, etc. Then he takes each book in the section passage by passage and shows how worship constantly enters into the author s style and purpose in bringing that author s unique meaning to the indivdual context. He concludes each section with a terse Worship Summary of the biblical book and with questions for the reader to contemplate. Thus Borchert invites the reader to enter into the worship discussion and find ways to give depth, meaning, and hope to personal and congregational worship. At each step, Borchert underlines the deep connection between worship and ...

TLC Correspondent. Duplicating efforts might not be the most efficient form of worship, but its enabling Episcopalians and Roman Catholics in one Virginia community to sustain a rare, decades-long ecumenical experiment.. The Roman Catholic Diocese of Richmond has accepted a proposal for administering sacraments separately during shared worship services at Church of the Holy Apostles in Virginia Beach. The churchs eucharistic forms needed to be more separate and distinct, Roman Catholic authorities said last year. Now they will be.. A new protocol requires that a Roman Catholic priest will pray parts of the liturgy every week. Every other week, on "Episcopal Sundays," an Episcopal priest will pray the same portions.. For worshipers, this means services on Episcopal Sundays will run about 20 minutes longer. They will hear the same Scripture passages read twice, two homilies, and two sets of Eucharistic prayers. Then they will receive Communion separately and reunite for the Great ...

Melinda Jones Ault Ph.D., a professor at University of Kentucky, looked around her own place of worship and wondered where the people with disabilities were. A longtime special educator, she said, "I knew they were out there." So she began studying the experiences of parents who have a child with a disability, including autism.. Her research team found that a third of the 416 parents surveyed had changed their place of worship due to a lack of inclusion or welcome, and 46 percent refrained from participating in an activity because their child was not included or welcomed.6, 7. "Those numbers were surprising to me, but even more surprising was the passion with which parents described their experiences," Dr. Ault said. "Many parents had positive stories to tell, but others had incredibly sad stories to tell of discrimination and negative attitudes. However all spoke about the experiences with passion. They either described many stories of acceptance and love or were affected negatively when a ...

After a little while of being stubborn and song-hating, I had the realisation that the songs we sing in worship arent for me. Theyre not for you either, or anyone else in my church, your church, or the world. The songs are for God, and he doesnt care what they sound like, or if I dont like the song, he cares about the heart that the worship is coming from. I dont sing worship songs for my enjoyment (although I do enjoy it anyway) or to feel close to God (although sometimes I do that too) but I sing worship songs to do just that, worship God. It is for him, for me to tell him that I love him, to thank him, to praise him, to cry out to him ...

Thursday, April 2, 1:00 - 3:00 pm Almost overnight, we find ourselves in a new, unfamiliar world. The COVID-19 virus has changed everything about our lives, including how we worship. What is the church to do in such a time as this? With the social distancing practices preventing our physical gatherings, how do we connect and make our message resonate with a world in chaos? Now more than ever, the church has the opportunity to lead the charge in a world looking for spiritual answers. In order to lead effectively, we have to tell the story in a new way, for a new time and with a new medium.. In the same way a book has to be consolidated and adapted for the screen in movie form, so must the worship we offer virtually. We cant continue with a "business-as-usual" approach where Sunday morning worship is concerned. Join author, creative worship and guest readiness coach Jason Moore for a 90-minute webinar for how to face these unique challenges to worship. Jason will lead your church into a deep dive ...
And now we come to the gospel of Mark in our worship, this morning. Our worship is always richer and better when it is informed by the glorious revelation of God in Scripture. The most important part of our worship is our understanding that informs our praise. And so, as a part of worship service, we always turn to the Word of God. We may have more to praise t he Lord for as we offer Him our worship.. Were in Mark chapter 1 and our text this morning is verses 9 through 11. Because this is such a monumental event, we have to take it in one lesson. Id like to cover more verses but not on this occasion because these three are so significant.. Mark 1:9 through 11, "In those days, Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. Immediately coming up out of the water, He saw the heavens opening and the Spirit like a dove descending upon Him, and a voice came out of the heavens, You are My beloved Son, in You I am well pleased.". ... is a unique guide to the design, construction, and use of religious facilities for optimum acoustics. The book is divided into two parts: Part I discusses methods and techniques of room optimization, including how the acoustics of large and small spaces are designed, implemented, and adjusted; how acoustical privacy is attained; noise and its control; sound reinforcement; and numerical and physical modeling techniques. Part II provides the architect, student, and lay person a review of the characteristics of the religious services pertinent to various beliefs and how these are provided for in the acoustic design of spaces in churches, mosques, and synagogues.
Crowds also have thinned at Bangkoks popular Wat Pho, a centuries-old Buddhist temple complex known for its giant reclining Buddha. The temple is normally visited by thousands of tourists, many of them Chinese, during the peak travel season from December to February, but large numbers of visitors as well as locals have stayed away since the outbreak began, said Phra Maha Udom Panyapho, a monk in charge of tourism at the temple.. A Protestant church in Seoul shut its doors and switched entirely to online worship services after one of its followers tested positive for the virus on Jan. 30.. Other Protestant churches in South Korea have sprayed their halls and rooms with disinfectant, canceled childrens Bible school programs and asked followers to minimize socializing. Hundreds of Catholic churches in the country have halted the use of holy water stoups, allowed churchgoers to wear masks during Masses and discouraged those with flu-like symptoms or those who came from countries with confirmed ...
Running the aisles is an ecstatic expression of worship that occurs occasionally in some contexts of worship in the Pentecostal and Holiness movements in Christianity. As the expression suggests, when a person runs the aisles in a worship setting, he leaves his seat and runs down the aisles between seating sections, or he may run around the interior perimeter of the meeting house. A biblical basis for the act known as running the aisles is difficult to establish. Nevertheless, in the Pentecostal worship tradition, spontaneous expressions inspired by the moving of the Spirit are highly valued, and in many congregations the spontaneous running of aisles has traditionally been an acceptable expression of joy. Typically those Pentecostals who run the church aisles do not do so unless they feel that they are overwhelmed by the presence of the Holy Spirit at a point in the service when the congregation in general is sensing His moving. It may be reasonable to classify running as a form of dancing. It ...

So: I like both. Its possible (we do it, in fact) to have contemporary worship music that is not IMeIMeIMe, not 7-11, not Jesus-is-my-boyfriend. Its possible to have traditional worship that is those things (I come to the garden, anyone?). Again, worship isnt about me, but it is about full expressions of who we are before God, and about communities worshipping together...and sometimes that means putting aside our stereotypes of what "worship" is. We have songs at our 830 ("alternative" aka with-a-band) service that I absolutely adore. We are able to bring in Carrie Newcomer or The Indigo Girls or David LaMotte. We sing hymns written in the 16th century and hymns written last week. We have words of the psalms, Calvins words, David Crowders words, and words written by members of our congregation. We have bluegrass, organ, singer-songwriter, gospel, jazz, spirituals, and edgy rock (one of our slogans is actually "from Bach to Rock"). The style is irrelevant as long as the purpose is to glorify ...
Therefore says Habakuk, "Woe to him who saith to the wood, Awake." Yes, so senseless had the people become in that generation, that they felled a tree in the forest, cut it into pieces, and fashioned a portion into the shape of a man, to stay with them in the house, whilst the other was perhaps used to bake the very bread they ate; and then they fell down on their knees before it, and addressed it in the words of prayer, in order to invoke the assistance of the idol, the fancied god, which had been made from a block of wood by the skill of the sculptor, and the decorations of gold and silver which it exhibited being merely the tinsel trappings of a cunning artisan, who had perhaps exhausted his skill in thus adorning the work of his hands, to render it a fit object of worship to himself and others. Now, behold, the idol is done; it is introduced into a gorgeous temple, with magnificent portico and elaborate ceiling; the light of day is mellowed into a dreamy twilight by a skilful arrangement of ...
Back in October of 2001 I walked into a Quaker meeting house in Hartford, CT to finally attend silent worship. Over 10 years before in Wales I nearly sat through a meeting during my honeymoon with my wife. We were both 25 years old, conservative, Bible-believing, Pentecostal Christians looking for a place to meet with Jesus. Since we had arrived at the Quaker meeting house about 20 minutes before the service, we nosed around in the front room and perused the literature prominently displayed. None of it sounded familiar. The language seemed vague, shadowy to us-suspect. "…that of God in everyone…the Light of the divine…the seed within." We understood these words individually, but the way the Quakers strung them together, they smacked of the dreaded heresy of our day-NEW AGE. We dashed out of there in search of a proper church with a proper God that we recognized. Years later, no longer married, no longer "straight," I felt adrift in my spiritual life. I had just moved back up North from ...
Since its stunning 2006 breakthrough debut album Sound of Melodies, progressive worship band Leeland has become one of the most important voices in a new generation of worship music. Known for its passion-filled live experience, the bands fourth album The Great Awakening stirs a fresh desire for personal and worldwide worship revival. Nominated for three Grammy Awards-one for each of its previously released albums-this time around, lead singer Leeland Mooring and brother Jack Mooring are joined by 18-year-old new member (and younger sister) Shelly, along with drummer Mike Smith, to bring 11 new modern songs inspired by historical "fathers of the faith"-men like theologian Jonathan Edwards and Salvation Army founder William Booth, whose depth of belief and passion for God started an uprising of faith wherever they went.. The Mooring siblings grew up learning about such spiritual giants from their parents while riding around the country in an old Lincoln Town Car; mom and dad led worship for ...

However, scripture seems to indicate that worship is a life lived to the glory of God. Certainly, this includes singing songs in a sanctuary or around a campfire, but it also includes so much more. In fact, it seems to include a whole lot more, like justice and mercy and faithfulness. Just take a look at Jesus denunciation of the scribes and Pharisees in Matthew 23. Jesus calls them hypocrites for neglecting to practice justice and mercy, all while admitting that the scribes and Pharisees were tithing (which would be an act of worship). He doesnt condemn their tithing, but he does suggest that there are greater acts of worship demonstrated in the way we live our lives and in the way we treat others. If we arent worshipping with our everyday lives, then our worship rituals dont amount to much ...
After Benares, we continued traveling west - first to Italy, then the U.K., New York, and finally home to San Francisco. What a trip! So many stories associated with that journey, wow. Nevertheless, I can say without a doubt it was Benares that had the biggest impact. Watching people worship and pray as a matter of course, watching them stop by the Shiva shrines on every street, in every part of the city, to leave an offering of marigolds or pour some Ganges river water, was a revelation. In Benares the manner of worship is completely integrated into their "regular" lives. The people worship the same way we drop our Netflix DVDs off at the mailbox. The life of the spirit is absolutely integrated. Wow. When I got home to San Francisco I realized I didnt ever have to wait for a proper occasion in order to talk to God. I could worship and pray whenever I wanted ...
Despite the Indian tradition of worshipping nature and the environment, the situation is now in a paradox with nature being abused casually. "We are a civilisation who venerate biodiversity. We pray to forests, mountains and rivers on one hand, and on the other we treat our surroundings with disdain," said Jairam Ramesh. "We worship things that we want to ignore - our rivers become sewers and our mountains are destroyed by mining," he said. The roots of respect for nature have to be rediscovered, he said, and highlighted how the history of environmentalism has also had a gender dimension with women being at the forefront of struggles such as the Chipko Movement ...
