In the context of low to moderate levels of physical activity and increased prevalence of childhood obesity, socio-economic variations in patterns of expenditure on active and screen recreation are of public health relevance. For the first time, comparative information is available on patterns of expenditure on active and screen recreation. In 2003-4 Australian households with dependent children spent about $14.58 per week on active recreation, which was about half of average expenditure on screen recreation.. Patterns of expenditure on active and screen recreation varied substantially by socio-economic factors. Increased household income was associated with increased odds of promoting active recreation and active recreation over screen recreation, and decreased odds of promoting screen recreation. This effect was independent of the effects of socio-economic status. Most simply, this suggests that the cost of active recreation is a limiting factor for some families in supporting active ...

This fox had been dead a long time by the time Neko found it. Certainly a lot longer than 48 hours. Its eyes were dried up in its sockets and it was well along in the process of decomposing. Also, there were no tags or markers anywhere identifying the trapper or his/her ALS number. My advice to pet owners who enjoy hiking in and around popular public recreation areas is to watch the video below and learn how to release all traps. Leg-hold traps can seriously injure, but snares or conibears could kill your beloved dog in no time unless you know how to react.. Trappers will argue that you should leash your pet, but the fact is many dog owners take their pets to public lands to let them stretch their legs and run. Most of us think nothing about the dangers of traps, especially in popular recreation areas so close to city limits. But in Helena it appears traps now something we have to beware of. So if you want to take your pet on a hike, you better keep it on a leash, carry a wire cutters and know ...

It gives me great pleasure to address you today at the beginning of your 2-day workshop to assess the state of school sport and the way forward. Almost 4 years ago to the day, the Ministers of Sport and Recreation and Education signed the framework of collaboration on school sport. The foundation of this agreement is, and I quote: There is consensus between the Ministries of Education and Sport and Recreation that the transformation of school sport in ordinary public schools is embedded in the transformation of sport and recreation in the entire country. Similarly, the transformation of sport and recreation in South Africa is integral to the overall transformation of the South African society. Sport and recreation are important vehicles for building a transformed, non-racial, non-sexist society, united in diversity. Sport and recreation are catalysts in the promotion of national reconciliation, social cohesion and national identity.

Downloadable! The paper addresses the question of who benefits from public recreation areas. Employing a set of survey data from users and nonusers of state-owned recreation and conservation areas in Finland, we derive two measures for distributional analysis. The first, the income elasticity of willingness to pay for recreation services, indicates that public provision of recreation benefits lower-income groups more than higher-income groups. The second, a welfare measure including efficiency loss, reveals ambiguous impacts depending on the level of the fee implemented. Low fee levels decrease recreation visits among lower-income users, whereas high fees reduce the welfare level of higher-income users in particular.

The Australian Sports Commission (ASC) has launched a new national survey to collect data on Australians sport and recreation activities.. Following the 2014 decision of the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) to cease collecting any sport and recreation data, the new AusPlay survey aims to become the national benchmark for measuring sport and physical recreation. Introducing AusPlay, ASC Chief Executive Simon Hollingsworth said it would become the single source of data for Government and the sport sector that not only tracked Australian sport participation behaviour but also informed investment, policy and sport delivery.. Hollingsworth stated that for the first time in Australia, data about adults and childrens sport and physical recreation participation would be collected in the same national survey.. He added that this would help the sector better understand the relationship between parents and children when it came to sport participation.. Hollingsworth said AusPlay, part of the ...

Study shows BMIs increased in those who chose to move to be closer to outdoor recreation. Youd think that people choosing to live near to outdoor recreation amenities would have a lower body mass index or BMI thanks to an increase in all that healthy outdoor activity right on ones doorstep. Yet a new University of Alberta study looking at the relationship between reasons for choosing a neighbourhood to live in, physical activity and BMI, shows thats simply not the case.. In fact researchers found that those who said theyd moved to be closer to outdoor recreation opportunities actually showed a marked increase in BMI over the six years of a longitudinal study conducted from 2002 to 2008, and led by Tanya Berry of the Faculty of Physical Education and Recreation.. (One of the things we analysed) in this paper was the movers and non-movers, says Berry. Those who had moved over the six years of the study and had indicated that choosing a neighbourhood for ease of walking was very important to ...

However, if you happen to mention Recreation Therapy to a friend, family member, or colleague you may get the question What is Recreation Therapy? Before anyone can truly understand the purpose and value of this field they need to know its roots and how it came to be.. In 1889 the Hull House was co-founded by Jane Addams and Ellen Starr. It offered community services and recreation to those who could not afford, or did not have access to, typical means of recreation. In 1917 during World War I the Red Cross initiated recreational services to veterans in the Walter Reed Hospital in Washington D.C. Epidemiologic evidence supports an inverse association between physical activity and postmenopausal breast cancer. Whether associations exist for moderate activities, such as walking, and whether associations differ by estrogen receptor (ER) status, body mass index (BMI, kg/m2), adult weight gain, or use of postmenopausal hormones (PMH) is unclear. The relation between time spent sitting and breast cancer also is unclear. Among 73,615 postmenopausal women in the American Cancer Society Cancer Prevention Study II Nutrition Cohort, 4,760 women were diagnosed with breast cancer between 1992 and 2009. Extended Cox regression was used to estimate multivariable-adjusted relative risks (RR) of breast cancer in relation to total recreational physical activity, walking, and leisure-time sitting. Differences in associations by ER status, BMI, weight gain, and PMH use were also evaluated. The most active women (those reporting ,42 MET-hours/week physical activity) experienced 25% lower risk of breast ...

At least 50 percent of the holes on a miniature golf course must be accessible-if possible, operators should make all holes accessible. Accessible holes must be consecutive, to offer a more socially integrated experience. If only the minimum number of holes are accessible, it is recommended that designers select holes that will offer golfers who use wheelchairs or other mobility devices a playing experience that is as equivalent as possible to the experience of golfers without disabilities. An exception permits courses to have one break in the sequence of accessible holes, if the last hole in the sequence is the last hole on the course. The route in which a golfer with a disability must travel may not require travel back through any holes, even if the route is adjacent to the hole and not on the hole itself..
