Shradhs are observed by every family in Indian Hindu culture to seek forgiveness from the deceased person and our ancestors for their unfulfilled known or unknown desires.. Traditionally, people observe shradh either on the day of Amavasya every month or on the day of death anniversary of the deceased person or persons or during Shradh days observed in Chaturmas coinciding with the Hindi Tithi or the date on which the diseased person had died. Shradhs are observed till Mahashradh is observed which is usually at a place near Ganga in Gaya, Pushkar, Haridwar etc.. In mythology, mind is linked with ocean, river or water. Most Mahashradhs are held near sacred water as it requires the process of purification of the mind away from home so that one can relax and not only take a one holy bath but also take an internal bath of meditation and self-confession. Medically, Shradh is a type of an attachment disorder or guilt disorder where either you are attached to the thoughts of the diseased person which ...
Objective: Psychiatric co-morbidity and attachment issues are prevalent in obese patients. A possible relationship between insecure attachment styles and eating disorder risk has been proposed. The aim of this study is to determine the psychiatric co-morbidity, attachment styles and related risk factors in obese patients. Method: Obese patients with body mass index of 30 kg/m(2) or higher and non-obese controls matched for age, sex and education were included with a total sample of 173 participants. Diagnostic assessment using Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-IV Axis I Disorders and the Adult Attachment Scale, Hamilton Depression and Hamilton Anxiety scales were carried out. Attachment styles were classified as-anxious/ambivalent, avoidant and secure. The anxious/ambivalant and avoidant groups were combined and compared with the secure group. Results: Fifty three (40.8%) obese patients had psychiatric disorders including major depression (n=44; 33.8%). Anxiety was found to be a risk factor ...

Introduction. Child Psychology A1. a) Outline the behaviour of a securely attached child during the Strange Situation procedure (3) During the strange situation procedure, the child is left in the observation room with either the primary care giver or a stranger, with the observer looking on. A securely attached child will use the care giver as a secure base for exploring the room and playing with toys. However, when the care giver leaves the room, the child will most likely protest and cry, but can be easily comforted. The child will generally prefer the care giver to the stranger, and may be slightly less keen to explore their surroundings with the stranger present. b) Evaluate the Strange Situation as a procedure to measure attachment type (4) The strange situation, as an observation, may be subject to observer bias; since the observer knows the type of behaviour they are looking for and may be influenced by this when taking notes. ...read more. A very blunt look at the breakdown between secure attachment and insecure attachment categories - there is NOTHING more important to understand when it comes to being human!
Recent findings suggest that pain and pleasure share common neurochemical circuits, and studies in animals and humans show that opioid-mediated descending pathways can inhibit or facilitate pain. We explored the role of endogenous opioid neurotransmission in pleasure-related analgesia. μ-Opioidergic activity was blocked with 0.2 mg/kg naloxone to assess its effects on hedonic responses to pleasant emotional pictures (International Affective Picture System) and its modulating effects on heat pain tolerance. Naloxone did not alter subjective and autonomous reactions to pleasure induction or overall mood of participants. In addition, pleasure-related increases in pain tolerance persisted after reversal of endogenous μ-opioidergic neurotransmission. Subjective pain intensity and unpleasantness ratings increased after naloxone administration. These findings suggest that, in addition to opioid-sensitive circuits, mainly opioid-insensitive pain-modulating circuits are activated during ...

Child healthy development is largely influenced by parent-child interaction and a secure parent-child attachment is predictively associated with positive outcomes in numerous domains of child development. However, the parent-child relationship can be affected by several psychosocial and socio-demographic risk factors that undermine its quality and in turn play a negative role in short and long term child psychological health. Prevention and intervention programs that support parenting skills in at-risk families can efficiently reduce the impact of risk factors on mother and child psychological health. This study examines predictors of mother-child interaction quality and child attachment security in a sample of first-time mothers with psychosocial and/or socio-demographic risk factors. Forty primiparous women satisfying specific risk criteria participated in a longitudinal study with their children from pregnancy until 18 month of child age. A multiple psychological and socioeconomic assessment was

Attachment theory might also provide another possible linkage between the social environment of the athlete, pain and general performance. Numerous studies were able to show that insecure attachment is associated with worse treatment outcomes of multimodal pain therapies (1, 6, 27, 32, 37). Moreover, this is particularly relevant, as insecure attachment styles are vastly overrepresented in chronic pain patients: around 65% of chronic pain patients can be classified as insecurely attached, whereas the prevalence of insecure attachment in a healthy, representative population is about 33% (33, 43). Research indicates that attachment behaviour may also be related to developing maladaptive activity patterns in pain patients (3). Hence, secure attachment is associated with lower levels of activity avoidance mediated by lower scores of pain catastrophizing, while preoccupied or fearful attachment is linked to higher levels of overactivity (3).. In the context of athletes, the question remains, ...
People feel less anxious when close to their attachments because their attachments can provide support during difficult situations. Support includes the comfort, assistance, and information people receive from their attachments. Attachment influences both the perception of support from others and the tendency to seek support from others. People who have attachments who respond consistently and positively to requests for closeness allow individuals to have secure attachments, and in return they seek more support, in a generally relaxed way, while people whose attachments are inconsistent in reacting positively or regularly reject requests for support find they need to use other attachment styles.[60][61][62][63] People with secure attachment styles may trust their attachments to provide support because their attachments have reliably offered support in the past. They may be more likely to ask for support when its needed. People with insecure attachment styles often do not have a history of ...
This study examined the relationship between attachment representations and the self-concept of learning disabled (LD) students (n = 31) at the community college level. The Adult Attachment Projective (AAP) was used to measure attachment representation (secure vs. insecure) and the Tennessee Self-Concept Scale:2 (TSCS:2) was used to measure self-concept (personal, social, academic, and total self-concept) of the students. The study identifies two (6.5%) students with secure attachment representation and twenty-nine (93.5%) students with insecure attachment. Within the insecure attachment group three classification groups were identified: twelve (38.7%) detached, six (19.4%) preoccupied, and eleven (35.5%) unresolved. One sample t-tests determined that the average level of personal, social, academic, and total self-concept of LD students is significantly lower than the TSCS:2 standardization sample for similarly-aged, similarly educated students. Based on the AAP, students were classified as being high,

The aim of this study was to examine the role of attachment style, self-concept, and coping strategies, in order to explain the differences in perceived stress factors and stress symptoms, in a mediation model. Participants were 515 university students (302 female and 213 male) aged 17-28 years. The assessment instruments were: Social Comparison Scale, Ways of Coping Scale, Experiences in Close Relationships Scale-II, Brief Symptom Inventory and University Students Stress Factors Scale. The results indicated that the effect of anxious attachment on perceived stress factors and stress symptoms was partially mediated by self-concept and coping styles. Our findings revealed that the level of anxious attachment is an important factor to explain perceived stress and stress-related variables ...
Sensations of comfort and calmness from a close relationship are developed from a young age. Children are taught they should derive love and security from their relationships. Children who experience close and rewarding personal relationships with family and friends are taught to seek our additional healthy and functional relationships later in life. Psychologists and therapists call ones degree of connection to healthy relationships their attachment style. Attachment styles include secure, avoidant, anxious, and disorganized. Fortunately, adults can ameliorate their attachment style even as they grow older. Does Attachment Get Under the Skin? Adult Romantic Attachment and Cortisol Responses to Stress. Paula R. Pietromonaco, Casey J. DeBuse, and Sally I. Powers. Our adult relationships can affect our overall health in the long-term, but they can also influence how we respond to specific stressors in the short-term.. According to Pietromonaco, DeBuse, and Powers, the relationship between adult attachment and differences in activation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis may provide clues to the link between relationships and health.. They present research indicating that individuals with insecure attachments produce more cortisol in response to relationship stressors than do those with secure attachments. Although more research is needed, this may be a mechanism through which relationships affect long-term health outcomes.. Published in the February 2013 issue of Current Directions in Psychological Science. Attachment Anxiety Is Linked to Alterations in Cortisol Production and Cellular ...

Between eight and nine months of age babies begin to become aware of the separation between themselves and the parent figure. At this time babies may appreciate a small object such as a soft toy to provide comfort and connection during times of separation. Use of transitional objects however, is not universal and is influenced by cultural and socioeconomic differences1,10-11 maternal personality and mother-infant interactions12. Child rearing practices involving high contact e.g. breastfeeding, feeding on the babies cue, co-sleeping, and holding the child during the transition to sleep are associated with lower use of transitional objects13 . Younger babies are more likely to self sooth with a dummy or pacifier, and older babies are more likely to use a soft object. Seven month old babies are more likely to explore objects in their sleeping environments than younger babies14. Studies examining childrens attachments to various classes of objects10 found that strong attachment to blankets is ...

Im a doctor and psychotherapist whos interested in using attachment ideas to improve how helpful I can be for clients. Awareness of attachment issues informs therapy, it doesnt dictate it. An obvious question is whether its sometimes worth assessing attachment in a formal way. Im no expert in this area. Im an informed amateur and, after reading and exploring a good deal around the subject, my impression is that it can be pretty useful at times to assess attachment. The Wikipedia article on Attachment measures provides an excellent overview of the field while, for much more in depth information, the two attachment books and the various websites that Ive described in previous blog postings give comprehensive coverage. In fact most people would probably benefit from being more aware of their attachment styles in close relationships with the crucial knock on effects this has on our partners, friends, work relationships and children. In terms of interpreting the information from this brief interview, I am listening as much to the depth and tone as to the content and coherence of the answers. The first answer adjectives may include happy, fun, adventurous or sad, lonely, and poor. Based on the adult attachment styles identified by Mary Main, these descriptors are not as important as what comes next. If the examples of childhood experiences are consistent with the adjectives it demonstrates some coherence in the persons understanding of their life story. For example, a lonely childhood in which parents were divorced or absent makes sense, describing it as happy with no further detail does not. I have heard parents describe a painful childhood in which parents were clearly abusive. This does not necessarily predict adult relationship problems. One client reported a happy childhood but with no memories before the age of six. The partner reminded the client that they were ill as a child spending a lot of time in the hospital. ...
I ran across a strange situation the other day while helping a friend with his PC; the unit was experiencing sporadic lock-ups. Part of the problem was that it regulary would not boot without freezing during POST (no BSODs). However, if he kept at it, the PC would boot-to-desktop after maybe 4 or 5 attempts. When it did boot, all would be well for an hour or so and then another lock-up (and again, no BSODs; no error messages, etc). When I took a look at it I started by running my good friend Malwarebytes-in-Safe-Mode and it dispensed with something like 56 various viral nasties. That took care of the booting problem and every reboot afterward went through straight to the desktop. Things were looking up. Fast forward a couple of days and Im speaking to my friend about his PC and he told me that it locked up again two hours after I had left. At this point, I began questioning him further about his setup and he mentioned something about proper grounding. More questions from me and I finally ...

Purpose. The aim of this study is to explore the role of attachment styles in obesity.. Material and Methods. The present study explored differences in insecure attachment styles between an obese sample waiting for bariatric surgery (n = 195) and an age, sex and height matched normal weight control group (n = 195). It then explored the role of attachment styles in predicting change in BMI 1 year post bariatric surgery (n = 143).. Results. The bariatric group reported significantly higher levels of anxious attachment and lower levels of avoidant attachment than the control non-obese group. Baseline attachment styles did not, however, predict change in BMI post surgery.. Conclusion. Attachment style is different in those that are already obese from those who are not. Attachment was not related to weight loss post surgery.. ...

The assessment of psychopathy in children and adolescents is a very important area of research and it is still in its infancy. There seems to be reasonable evidence that juvenile psychopathy shows similar correlates (e.g. aggression, neurocognitive deficits, substance misuse) to adult psychopathy. Our knowledge about the nature, stability and consequences of juvenile psychopathy, however, is still very limited. There have been no published longitudinal studies of the stability of psychopathy as assessed by any of the current measures and it remains unclear to what degree the antisocial behavioural items that contribute to the psychopathy label change over time, given what we know about adolescent-limited antisocial behaviours. The limited data on the psychometric properties of current instruments, particularly information on recommended or specific cut-off scores for prototypical psychopathy, suggest that it is premature to assign this label to younger cohorts. For this reason many researchers ...
PD Dr. med. Karl Heinz Brisch, From continuous sleep to competent little person Internationally respected researchers and clinicians discuss the latest research into attachment and neurobiology and the influence of genes and relationships on the emotional, psychological, cognitive, social, and neurobiological development of fetuses and infants.
Ainsworth herself was the first to find difficulties in fitting all infant behaviour into the three classifications used in her Baltimore study. Ainsworth and colleagues sometimes observed tense movements such as hunching the shoulders, putting the hands behind the neck and tensely cocking the head, and so on. It was our clear impression that such tension movements signified stress, both because they tended to occur chiefly in the separation episodes and because they tended to be prodromal to crying. Indeed, our hypothesis is that they occur when a child is attempting to control crying, for they tend to vanish if and when crying breaks through.[24] Such observations also appeared in the doctoral theses of Ainsworths students. Crittenden, for example, noted that one abused infant in her doctoral sample was classed as secure (B) by her undergraduate coders because her strange situation behaviour was without either avoidance or ambivalence, she did show stress-related stereotypic headcocking ...
1) Dads brain releases more prolactin, a hormone that is elevated in new mothers who are highly responsive to their babies. Along with this, the brain eases testosterone production in new dads by about one third during the first few weeks of parenthood, a change that many believe may result in less aggression and more nurturing. (Storey et al. Memorial University of Newfoundland.). (2) Father mice were better foragers than bachelor mice-better able to find food throughout mazes. They also showed less stress when in strange situations or when presented with a new stimulus. Researchers found more nerve fibers in the fathers (and foster fathers brain) as well as more oxytocin and vasopressin, hormones that are associated with caregiving. (Lambert, Randolph-Macon College, cited in Scientific American Mind.). (3) A recent study has shown that neurogenesis took place in male mice in the days following the birth of their pups. But the extra boost of brain cells only occurred if the mouse father ...
