Preventative Dentistry is the ultimate goal that we set for each of our patients. Proper oral hygiene is done daily at home. We educate our patients with proper nutrition, dietary counseling, and proper techniques while brushing and flossing. This education, coupled with our periodic checkups and professional cleanings, gives each patient a good, overall bill of dental health. In order for patients to receive this education, we will provide a dental exam. During the dental exam, our hygienist will complete your cleaning and dental x-rays. The dental x-rays will help in the complete diagnosis of your mouth and provide us a plan to help reach your dental needs. If bone loss and hardened plaque are seen on the x-ray underneath the gum, a more thorough cleaning is often needed. This type of cleaning is called scaling and root planing, which detoxifies the tooth surfaces below the gum line and flushes the bacteria out of the area. This entire process from start to finish gives each patient the ...
According to a study published online April 10, 2012 in the journal Cancer, researchers examined answers to a health survey from a group of 1433 meningioma patients and compared them to answers from a control group of 1350 people without these tumors. The meningioma group was twice as likely as the control group to report ever having had a bitewing exam, the meningioma group also was more likely to report having had a panorex exam at a young age (under 10 years old) or on a yearly or more frequent basis. The panorex exam is taken outside the mouth and shows all of the teeth in one film ...

Ahwatukee Animal Care Hospital 10855 South 48th Street Phoenix AZ 85044 Your cat should be visiting your veterinarian once a year, at minimum, for a wellness examination, dental examination, as well as teeth cleaning and polishing to remove tartar and invisible plaque from all tooth surfaces. For proper dental care, your cat must be placed under general anesthesia. Your veterinarian will examine your pet for underlying health conditions and perform pre-anesthetic blood tests prior to your cats professional dental cleaning in order to ensure that your cats kidney and liver functions are satisfactory for anesthesia. Sometimes, antibiotic treatment is prescribed in advance. Once your cat is closely monitored under general anesthesia, your veterinarian and veterinary technicians will more thoroughly examine the mouth, noting abnormalities in the medical record. Dental x-rays will be examined and a dental probe will be used to evaluate gum bleeding and periodontal pockets, where food can accumulate. Next

X-rays are an important diagnostic tool in dentistry because of their ability to penetrate and pass through body tissues. Because they penetrate at different speeds depending on tissue density (shorter and thus darker on exposed film for soft tissues, longer and lighter for hard tissues like bone or teeth), were able to detect decay which appear as dark areas on x-ray film.. Without x-rays, the early detection and diagnosis of dental problems would be quite difficult. But despite its obvious benefits, its still a form of released energy that exposes patients to a certain amount of radiation. Since the potential health risk from radiation depends on the amount released (the dosage) and for how long and often a person is exposed, we must determine if the dosage and frequency from dental x-rays is a cause for concern.. Its a common misconception to view any radiation exposure as dangerous. The truth is, however, were all exposed daily to radiation from the natural environment - about 2 to 4.5 ...

Note the group of workers studied was a while ago (1970s I believe) and it looked at the overall health after the exposure for long term effects. They have received much more than normal amounts (back in those days you could get a lot more than 5 rem per year) of radiation as their badges would indicate so missing dental x-rays would not be an issue as they would not contribute much at all. According to the study, they were just normal dock workers without additional education. The only distinguishing feature found in the study was the handling of waste ...

1. Breastfeeding mothers cannot breastfeed if they have had X-rays. Not true! Regular X-rays such as a chest X-ray or dental X-rays do not affect the milk or the baby and the mother may breastfeed without concern.Mammograms are harder to read when the mother is lactating, but can be done and the mother should not stop breastfeeding just to get this done. Furthermore, there are other ways of investigating a breast lump. Newer imaging methods such as CT scan and MRI scans are of no concern, even if contrast is used. And special X-rays using contrast media? As long as no radioactive isotope is used there is no concern and the mother should not stop even for one feed. Herein are included studies such as intravenous pyelogram, lymphangiogram, venogram, arteriogram, myelogram, etc. What about studies using radioactive nucleotides (bone scans, lung scans, etc.)? The baby will get a little radioactive nucleotide. However, as we often do these very same tests on children, even small babies, and the ...

Root resorptions are assessed and diagnosed using different radiographical techniques. A comparison of the ability to assess resorptions on two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) radiographs is, hitherto, lacking. The aims of this study were to evaluate the accuracy of 2D (periapical radiographs, PA and panoramic radiograph, PAN) and 3D (cone beam computed tomography, CBCT) radiographic techniques in measuring slanted root resorptions compared to the true resorptions, a histological gold standard, in addition to a comparison of all the radiographic techniques to each other. Radiographs (CBCT, PA, and PAN), in addition to histological sections, of extracted deciduous canines from thirty-four patients were analyzed. Linear measurements of the most and least resorbed side of the root, i.e.,

Dental cone beam CT emits less radiation and provides a more complete picture than CT and CAT scans. Hospital CTs work by taking a series of parallel X-ray images of the head, from top to bottom. That leaves gaps between each image, which have to be filled by the computers educated guesses, and that many X-rays come with a lot of radiation.. A cone beam CT circles the head, which overlaps each image or slice, leaving no gaps. The radiation is also much weaker. The most radiation hits the the area of interest, which is where the images overlap to construct the 3D model. This is how CBCT is able to provide a more complete image with less radiation exposure. ...
Unfortunately not many multithreaded apps - yet. For a long time most of the multi-threaded apps were just a select few pro level things. 3D/Visualization software, CAD, database systems, etc.. Those of us who had multiprocessor systems bought them because we had a specific software in mind or group of software applications that could take advantage of multiple processors. As current CPU manufacturing processes started hitting a wall right around the 3GHz mark, chip makers started to transition to multiple CPU cores to boost power - makes sense. Software developers have been lazy for years, just riding the wave of ever-increasing MHz. Now the multi-core CPUs are here and the software is behind as many applications need to have serious re-writes done in order to take advantage of multiple processors. Intel tried to get a jump on this with their HT (Hyper Threading) implementation that essentially simulated dual-cores on a CPU by way of two virtual CPUs. Software developers didnt exactly jump on ...

Dental X-rays (radiographs) are images of the teeth that a dentist uses to evaluate oral health. These X-rays are used with low levels of radiation to capture images of the interior of teeth and gums. This can help a dentist to identify problems, like cavities, tooth decay, and impacted teeth. The positioner depicted in this model is used for a Pericapical x-ray of teeth of the lower jaw. It shows the whole tooth: from crown to beyond the rooth where the tooth attaches into the jaw. Each periapical x-ray shows all teeth in one portion of either the upper of lower jaw. Periapical x-rays detect any unusual changes in the root and surrounding bone structures. This model is used in a digital handbook for a radiology practical for dentistry students. - Dental Intra Oral X-ray Positioner, Periapical - Download Free 3D model by E-learning UMCG (@eLearningUMCG) [d2fe995]
Apart from these, pregnancy changes your appetite. Some women crave certain foods, and mostly it is not healthy foods. If you reach for high-carbohydrate or sugary snacks to fulfill your cravings, tooth decay risk is high, and it may result in cavities.. If you also have frequent vomiting or morning sickness, the stomach acid present in the mouth damages your tooth enamel, and it triggers tooth sensitivity.. Treatments for tooth pain. If you have tender gums, toothache, sores, or mouth pain, the first step is to see your dentist in Provo UT. If the tooth pain fails to subside, see the dentist again and mention you are pregnant.. If necessary, get dental x-rays and follow a few dental procedures. Depending on the seriousness, your dentist may delay a few treatments for you to reach the second trimester, at least. This delay is if you require a root canal or a filling. It means general or local anesthesia is a must, and it must not increase the risk of miscarriage in the first trimester.. Once the ...
Veterinary treatment involves inspection of the teeth and oral cavity, often under anaesthesia. Dental x-rays may be performed.. Where pulp exposure occurs, the tooth may be saved by a procedure called vital pulp therapy, or by root canal therapy, ideally performed within 48 hours of pulp exposure.. Where a tooth is avulsed it may be reimplanted and splinted.. In many cases, fractured teeth require extraction under general anaesthesia. This is a good opportunity for your veterinarian to check the other teeth and perform a scale and polish.. Antibiotics and pain relief are prescribed as needed.. ...
Although an odontoma is a type of tumor, the tissue is benign, which means that it will not normally become cancerous. In fact, dentists often discuss this condition as a type of hamartoma, which is simply an abnormal growth (in this case) of dental tissue.. Risk factors. An odontoma will normally develop in children and young teens, as the problem generally occurs when the primary teeth form. A complex odontoma can also affect adults, and research shows that the condition can affect both men and women.. 60 percent of compound odontomas form in the canine area, and a similar proportion of complex odontomas form in the molars.. Symptoms. An odontoma will not normally cause any pain or discomfort. Sometimes, the growth may inhibit tooth development, which may eventually cause some irritation, but dentists generally only spot the condition when they take a routine dental X-ray.. Nonetheless, other dental problems may point to a problematic odontoma. For example, the condition can sometimes stop a ...

Panoramic X-rays (also known as Panorex® or orthopantomograms) are wraparound photographs of the face and teeth. They offer a view that would otherwise be invisible to the naked eye. X-rays in general, expose hidden structures, such as wisdom teeth, reveal preliminary signs of cavities, and also show fractures and bone loss.. Panoramic X-rays are extraoral and simple to perform. Usually, dental X-rays involve the film being placed inside the mouth, but panoramic film is hidden inside a mechanism that rotates around the outside of the head.. Unlike bitewing X-rays that need to be taken regularly, panoramic X-rays are generally only taken on an as-needed basis. A panoramic X-ray is not conducted to give a detailed view of each tooth, but rather to provide a better view of the sinus areas, nasal areas and mandibular nerve. Panoramic X-rays are extremely versatile in dentistry, and are used to:. ...
How Is Feline Stomatitis Diagnosed?. Examining the mouth of a cat with stomatitis can be difficult because the cat is reluctant to open his or her mouth. Your veterinarian may recommend sedation to facilitate a more complete examination.. Results of basic blood tests, such as a chemistry panel and complete blood cell count (CBC), tend to be unremarkable in cats with stomatitis. However, your veterinarian may recommend specific testing for underlying diseases such as FeLV, FIV, and bartonellosis.. Sometimes, a small sample of tissue from the mouth is submitted to a laboratory for biopsy. However, the diagnosis is commonly based on clinical signs and physical examination findings. A dental examination and dental x-rays can help your veterinarian determine the extent of periodontal disease.. What Are the Treatment and Outcome for Feline Stomatitis?. Because the condition is very painful, initial treatment generally includes giving medication to control pain and inflammation. Antibiotics are also ...
The researchers insisted that the levels detected so far are not high enough to be particularly dangerous to humans or marine life. As an example, even if they were twice as high and I was to swim there every day for an entire year, the dose I would be exposed to is a thousand times less than a single dental X-ray, Buesseler said.. So the risk [from radiation exposure] is never zero, but when I think of health risk, I always think of the Japanese side of the Pacific instead of ours.. Radioactive cesium from the Fukushima disaster is likely to keep arriving at the North American coast, he said. Predicting the spread of radiation becomes more complex the closer it gets to the coast.. According to a 2013 study by the Nansen Environmental and Remote Sensing Center in Norway, the main part of the radioactive ocean plume from the Fukushima disaster is likely to hit the North American west coast in 2017, with maximum concentrations of radioactivity arriving in 2018. The model showed the bulk of ...

A juvenile active ossifying fibroma is a benign fibro-osseous neoplasm composed of mixture of stroma and bone characterized by rapid and destructive growth. This tumor has gone by several names in the past, but active ossifying fibroma is similar to juvenile active ossifying fibroma, except it does not develop in young patients. Aggressive psammomatoid ossifying fibroma is still employed by some, but is to be discouraged. Most patients are asymptomatic, and come to clinical attention when a mass is discovered incidentally on routine dental X-rays. When patients are symptomatic, they present with non-specific symptoms, such as chronic sinusitis, rhinorrhea, obstruction, pain, facial enlargement and possibly visual changes. When performing imaging studies, bone windows in computed tomography studies are the best. The lesion is usually identified as a well demarcated, expansile mass with an ossified rim at the periphery. Calcifications are noted throughout. MRI shows a variable finding depending on ...
We investigate lesion detectability and its trends for different noise structures in single-slice and multislice CBCT images with anatomical background noise. Anatomical background noise is modeled using a power law spectrum of breast anatomy. Spherical signal with a 2 mm diameter is used for modeling a lesion. CT projection data are acquired by the forward projection and reconstructed by the Feldkamp-Davis-Kress algorithm. To generate different noise structures, two types of reconstruction filters (Hanning and Ram-Lak weighted ramp filters) are used in the reconstruction, and the transverse and longitudinal planes of reconstructed volume are used for detectability evaluation. To evaluate single-slice images, the central slice, which contains the maximum signal energy, is used. To evaluate multislice images, central nine slices are used. Detectability is evaluated using human and model observer studies. For model observer, channelized Hotelling observer (CHO) with dense difference-of-Gaussian ...
Methods: Different kV-CBCT acquisition modes with different tube voltage (kV) and exposure (mAs) were studied: pelvis and pelvis obese with a Varian Truebeam™ (unit 1), pelvis and low dose thorax with a Varian Clinac 2100CD (unit 2). Using the TomoTherapy® Cheese phantom (Gammex RMI, Middleton, WI) for HU to electron density (de) calibration curve, and the NEMA body water phantom for HU uniformity, noise and mean water number analysis, were investigated. From the FBCT and kV-CBCT HU differential histograms, frequency peaks representing water, air, lung, soft tissue and bone were compared. Results: For unit 2, streaking and ring artifacts are much greater than for unit 1 as well as HU uniformity is deteriorated. Noise values are comparable between units but standard deviation is twice at unit 2. Peaks observed in the differential histograms are broader in kV-CBCT than those of FBCT especially for high tissue density. kV-CBCT uniformity is more degraded than in FBCT because CBCT is more ...

On the other hand, it is definitely not worth doing radiation diagnostics in any incomprehensible situation: although the harm of radiation in small doses remains in question, experts try not to expose patients to radiation in vain. Some organs are especially sensitive to radiation - these are the thyroid gland, skin, retina, glands (including mammary glands), and pelvic organs. To protect patients, certain protocols are followed: for example, lead aprons are used to block X-rays, and machines are adjusted to use the minimum dose sufficient to obtain a good image.. Specialists treat children and pregnant women with extreme caution: if the examination is recommended, but there is no urgent need for it, it may be postponed for some time. On the other hand, dental radiography is safe for pregnant women if it is performed according to all the rules - much more dangerous for both the mother and the fetus is the source of infection in the mouth, that is, caries or pulpitis. Ultrasound and MRI during ...

Objectives: At the end of the lecture series, the graduate students should be able to: 1. Understand the basic radiographic anatomy of the maxilla, mandible, teeth and supporting tissues using plain intraoral films, computerized tomography and magnetic resonance imaging. 2. Differentiate between paralleling and bisecting angle techniques as used in intraoral radiography and be able to use either of the techniques in various clinical situations. 3. Understand the concepts of standardization in terms of film position and tube position to be able to use similar techniques for clinical research. 4. Understand the concepts in advanced radiophysics, in particular the modern designs in the construction of x-ray tubes and utilization of alternating current and direct current in the production of x-rays 5. Understand the principles of radiobiology and protection, including the safety of the operator and patient, maximum permissible doses, and shielding calculations for operatories. 6. Use the principles ...
Numerous studies have examined the interobserver reliability of radiographic interpretation in the emergency department. Each study was designed in a different manner thus making standardisation difficult.1,2,4,6,10,12-14 The trend over recent decades has been a decrease in the overall interpretation discrepancy rates to as low as 0.3%.3,4 Our study shows higher levels of misinterpretations as it was designed to maximise the potential discordance between emergency department physicians and radiologists by including all radiographic findings. Subtle signs, such as questionable consolidations, trace amounts of pleural effusion, very mild congestion, borderline cardiomegaly, etc, were regarded as positive findings therefore contributing to more errors of omission. Furthermore, basing the study on the actual medical records with no standard form indicates that many of these signs were not recorded in the discharge letter, either because of non-significance to the final discharge diagnosis, or ...
Data is one of the most critical aspects of any business. This means large businesses as well as startups and companies operating in any industry, market or niche product or service area. Data is an effective way to track and analyze a company, campaign or business practice and it is also essential in making an informed decision in the best interests of the company.. Unfortunately, the data itself is difficult to work with for most people. It is cumbersome and difficult to interpret when presented in raw numbers. Even with spreadsheets and databases, it is still an overwhelming amount of information to be able to evaluate, analyze and sort into a meaningful representation.. The Answer to the Data Problem. The use of data visualization software is a very effective way to create meaningful, easy to understand visual representation of the information the data provides. This can be provided as a macro representation of big data, or it can be broken down into subsections or a variety of categories ...
In a radiographic image processing apparatus for generating synthesized image data by synthesizing a plurality of partial radiographic images generated by radiation that has passed through the same object, additional information added to each of the plurality of partial radiographic images is acquired. On the basis of the acquired additional information, it is determined whether synthesis is to be permitted. When it is determined that synthesis is not to be permitted, generation of the synthesized image data is inhibited.

This survey was distributed to the 123 ARL member libraries in February 2006. Sixty-eight libraries (55%) responded to the survey, of which all but two (97%) reported having engaged in digitization activities. Only one respondent reported having begun digitization activities prior to 1992; five other pioneers followed in 1992. From 1994 through 1998 there was a steady increase in the number of libraries beginning digital initiatives; 30 joined the pioneers at the rate of three to six a year. There was a spike of activity at the turn of the millennium that reached a high in 2000, when nine libraries began digital projects. Subsequently, new start-ups have slowed, with only an additional one to five libraries beginning digitization activities each year ...

Ahwatukee Animal Care Hospital 10855 South 48th Street Phoenix AZ 85044 One of the most common and valuable medical diagnostic tools is radiography, or x-rays. X-rays are highly useful for screening areas of the body that have contrasting tissue densities or when evaluating solid tissues. Our hospital is equipped to perform routine radiology services to identify many types of illness or injury when pets are sick or suffer a trauma. X-rays can be used to detect a variety of ailments, including arthritis, tumors, bladder and kidney stones, and lung abnormalities, including pneumonia. They are also used to evaluate bone damage, organ integrity, and to identify foreign objects that may have been ingested. Dental radiographs will help to distinguish between healthy teeth and those that may need to be extracted. Dental radiographs also help identify any abnormalities beneath the gum line, including root damage, tumors, and abscesses. Our veterinarians may recommend x-rays as a part of a diagnostic

According to the invention, a method and system are provided for scanning, and for facilitating scanning of, an intraoral cavity. The target parts of the intraoral cavity that it is desired to have scanned are identified, and the spatial s relationships between a scanning device and the target parts of the intraoral cavity suitable for enabling said target parts to be scanned by said scanning device, are also identified or otherwise determined. These relationships are then displayed, and the displayed relationships are used as a guide for scanning the intraoral cavity.
