New therapies and treatment protocols have led to improved survival rates in many cancers. The improved rates are such that patients are now living long enough to experience some negative long-term side effects of the initial therapy. We report the case of a 65-year-old Caucasian woman who presented with a rare case of pseudotumoral radionecrosis, a late radiation-induced injury, after combined surgical and cobalt radiation therapy for the treatment of adenocarcinoma of the right breast. The patient underwent resection of this benign, yet progressively growing and painful tumor. A cosmetically satisfying result was achieved by reconstruction of the thoracic wall with a polypropylene mesh and a latissimus dorsi muscle flap. With improved overall survival, new management strategies for late side effects of therapy are becoming of crucial importance for affected patients. In the future, improving toxicity-free survival will be as important as achieving disease-free survival or local tumor control.

Approximately 30-40% of patients develop a deterioration of visual acuity within 5 years after treatment of uveal melanoma using radiation therapy and TTT due to radiation retinopathy (Shields 2002, Bartlema 2003). By administration of either Lucentis® or Triamcinolone® we hope to treat complications of radiation therapy, by demonstrating a statistically significant improvement in visual acuity and a reduced amount of macular edema and vascular leakage. Hi! Well... my PET Scan showed no PET activity in the lungs and some small amount of activity in my colon. I have not yet met with the Doc to discuss results yet as the day following the PET scan they found on an angiogram I had a blocked vein in my chest which they later found out to be stenosis caused from prior radiation to the chest. I was hospitalized in ICU for 6 days and was only released about 10 days ago. They theorize that somehow the vein was in the field of radiation and over time developed radiation fibrosis. Great! Well, they did an angioplasty in an attempt to open it up, but this was only partially successful. The vein could not be stented due to the pacemaker wires running thru it and the risk of tearing the vein with the stent while on blood thinners. Because the management of cervical cancer is stratified by tumour stage, we undertook this retrospective study to analyse the clinical characteristics and postoperative outcomes for inpatients with CRE requiring surgery after RRT or RS plus RT. In this series of 166 consecutive cases of CRE requiring surgery, more patients suffered from radiation-induced fistula, perforation and proctitis in the RRT group. An aggressive intestinal resection procedure was performed in almost all of the cases with overall and major morbidity rates of 63.9 % and 14.5 %, respectively. Although the surgical procedure is very difficult in patients with CRE, extensive resection of irradiated bowel is suitable and feasible with acceptable postoperative outcomes.. The idea of pain being discounted fascinates me. I had a bad fall when I was around 19 on some ice. I couldnt walk for weeks, and was told I had strained some tendons. The pain was excruciating, and would go on and off for years. It never followed a normal tissue injury pattern. I couldnt walk down stairs without holding a handrail, and my knee would lock at least once a month for a few hours. I was offered accupuncture. I asked several doctors over the space of 10 years if I could please get an xray (public health system), and I was told that it probably wouldnt show anything. So I just gritted my teeth and dealt with it. Then about 6 months after my son was born, my knee locked - and never unlocked. After months of seeing a kinesiologist and physio, I finally convinced a doctor to refer me for xrays.
