Objective. To design a questionnaire to assess cognitive representations of mental health problems held by people diagnosed with schizophrenia. Background. Personal beliefs about health problems have been reliably associated with emotional and behavioural responses to those health problems and health outcomes. This area has been extensively explored in relation to physical health, but somewhat neglected in mental health. In this study, a questionnaire designed to assess key beliefs about physical illness (the Illness Perception Questionnaire-Revised) was modified for use in exploring beliefs about schizophrenia. The new measure was termed the Illness Perception Questionnaire for Schizophrenia (IPQS). Method. Participants were 124 people with a diagnosis of schizophrenia who completed the IPQS and additional measures to assess symptom severity, emotional state, and attitudes towards medication. The psychometric properties of the IPQS were analysed, including internal consistency, test-retest ...

STATISTICAL PRIMER State Center For Health Statistics Department of Human Resources • Division of Health Services • P.O. Box 2091 • Raleigh, NC 27602-2091 • 919/733^728 No. 7 o j October 1986 N.C QUESTIONNAIRE DESIGN by J. Michael Bowling ABSTRACT An overview of the survey process is presented with special emphasis on questionnaire design. Topics covered are types ofquestions, structure of questions, question wording, and questionnaire construction. This information should help persons in state and local agencies to collect better data through more effective questionnaire design and implementation. The collection, processing, and dissemination of information have become increasingly important to the health care provider, researcher, and administrator faced with competing alternatives for the expenditure of scarce resources. Sample survey design, once relegated by many students to the dusty shelf of pedagogic esoterica, has become a useful tool to a more diverse group of data users ...

PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to examine the correspondence between qualitative and quantitative methods of coding experience of pain reported by participants with osteoarthritis (OA) of the knee. METHODS: A mapping grid was produced to record the correspondence between subthemes that emerged from thematic analysis of interviews with 24 participants with knee OA, and from questionnaire items which were used in a study of 192 knee OA participants. Items were rated according to their degree of correspondence between subthemes and questionnaire items, and an overall correspondence score was produced for each subtheme and questionnaire measure. RESULTS: The subthemes that corresponded well with the questionnaire items were those that related to socio-emotional functioning, the overall experience of pain and the impact of pain on physical functioning. The questionnaire items did not relate to participants knowledge about their condition and their experience of the medical system. CONCLUSIONS: ...
Personality in dogs have been studied relatively extensive the last couple of years with various methods. One of these methods is questionnaire for owners to fill in. A credible and well working questionnaire is characterized by a high reliability and validity. In this study three different questionnaires, MCPQ-R, DPQ and C-BARQ have been used and compared. Dog owners were asked to fill in all three questionnaires for their dog. Correlation between factors in the questionnaires and differences between age groups, breeds and sexes were analyzed to see if these questionnaires differed from each other. The result indicated various correlations that were both expected and unexpected as well as differences between age groups, breeds and sexes. Factors from all three questionnaires were sometimes considered more reliable than the other but DPQ had the most reliable ones. In the comparison between breeds no factor from C-BARQ was significant while several from the DPQ were. These factors also showed a ...
Background: Traditionally, a self-reported questionnaire has been a cost-effective method of gathering information about physical activity (PA). An objective measurement, such as the use of a pedometer, can be used to validate the findings of a PA questionnaire in a large population. Objective: The study objective was to determine the convergent validity of a PA questionnaire against objectively measured PA in adults obtained with the use of a pedometer. Methods: Data from the Cardiovascular Risk in Young Finns Study (YFS) were collected from 1853 participants aged 30 - 45 years. The participants completed a self-reported questionnaire that included items on leisure time, commuting and habitual PA. PA was expressed as leisure-time physical activity index (PAI) and metabolic equivalent hours/week (METh/wk). The participants wore a pedometer for seven consecutive days and used it to record their total daily and aerobic steps. Results: There was a low to moderate association between the ...
This paper describes the testing of a new questionnaire for the Australian Labour Force Survey (LFS). Testing strategies used in the development of the new questionnaire are described, followed by a discussion of the statistical design and estimation of the statistical impact of the new questionnaire on the key series. The statistical analysis and associated testing strategy that have been developed take advantage of the strong correlations between estimates from the same individuals over time. Under the assumption that a respondents replies do not depend on the questions they were asked in a previous month, the statistical estimator described in this paper is the best linear unbiased estimator of the new questionnaire effect. ...

Translated versions of neck-specific questionnaires have been evaluated in 15 different languages. Generally the methodological quality of the translation process is poor, which was mainly due to the fact that the translated version was not pre-tested in the target population. Furthermore, none of the included studies performed a cross-cultural validation. This is necessary to evaluate whether the constructs underlying the original questionnaire are represented adequately by the questionnaire items in the new language. For each questionnaire, except for the Iranian NPDS and Spanish NDI, at least half of the information regarding measurement properties was lacking. Moreover, the evidence for the quality of measurement properties of the translated versions is mostly limited, due to methodological shortcomings of the included studies.. The COSMIN checklist has recently been developed and is based on consensus between experts in the field of health status questionnaires [9]. The COSMIN checklist ...

Objective Initiatives promoting the reduction of high-salt food consumption by consumers need to be partly based on current levels of salt knowledge in the population. However, to date there is no validated salt knowledge questionnaire that could be used to assess population knowledge about dietary salt (i.e. salt knowledge). Therefore, the aim of the present study was to develop and validate a salt knowledge questionnaire. Design A cross-sectional study was conducted on an online web survey platform using convenience, snowball sampling. The survey questionnaire was evaluated for content and face validity before being administered to the respondents. Setting Online survey. Subjects A total of forty-one nutrition experts, thirty-two nutrition students and thirty-six lay people participated in the study. Results Item analyses were performed to evaluate the psychometric properties of the test items. Twenty-five items were retained to form the final set of questions. The total scores of the experts were
The Four-Dimensional Symptom Questionnaire (4DSQ) is a self-report questionnaire that has been developed in primary care to distinguish non-specific general distress from depression, anxiety and somatization. The purpose of this paper is to evaluate its criterion and construct validity. Data from 10 different primary care studies have been used. Criterion validity was assessed by comparing the 4DSQ scores with clinical diagnoses, the GPs diagnosis of any psychosocial problem for Distress, standardised psychiatric diagnoses for Depression and Anxiety, and GPs suspicion of somatization for Somatization. ROC analyses and logistic regression analyses were used to examine the associations. Construct validity was evaluated by investigating the inter-correlations between the scales, the factorial structure, the associations with other symptom questionnaires, and the associations with stress, personality and social functioning. The factorial structure of the 4DSQ was assessed through confirmatory factor
A self-administered, health history questionnaire devised for routine use in a general medical clinic is completed without the assistance of clinic personnel and used, unedited, by the providers. The reliability and validity of the responses of 23 patients to this questionnaire were tested statistically. In our setting, more than 90 percent of the patients referred for care are capable of completing the questionnaire. The 23 patients averaged 32 minutes to complete the questionnaire. An average of 34 minutes of encounter time is required to obtain the same historical data by interview. Test-retest reliability of patients responses to the questionnaire was 90 percent. More than 92 percent of the patients written responses to health history items agreed with the data obtained in a blinded fashion by internists in the traditional interview. The questionnaire accurately obtains items of history frequently missing from the recorded ambulabory care data base, and in some instances obtains items of ...
A total of 259 Mexican-American, bilingual women (English and Spanish), were recruited for the initial psychometric testing phase of the MBAQ and SMBAQ. The psychometric testing of the MBAQ and SMBAQ included the following steps: a) an estimate of the internal consistency reliability, utilizing Cronbachs alpha reliability coefficient, b) factor analysis, using principal components analysis with Varimax rotation, and c) paired t-test comparison of the means of the MBAQ and SMBAQ to establish their equivalence.. The sample size of 259 women was determined according to the formula of calculating 10 participants per item on a questionnaire (Nunnally & Bernstein, 1994). Since there were 25 items on both the MBAQ and SMBAQ, 250 participants were recruited into the study plus an additional nine participants to allow for questionnaires that would need to be eliminated because of incomplete or missing data on questionnaire items. Inclusion criteria for participants in the initial psychometric testing of ...

In recent years the availability of high-quality, inexpensive RDTs in the public sector has significantly improved and expanded diagnostic testing. In malaria endemic countries, approximately 40% of the population seeks care and treatment for febrile illnesses in the private sector. In such settings, successful malaria control greatly depends on effective diagnosis and treatment within the private sector. Interventions may seek to address diagnostic market constraints, quality-assured ACT treatment market constraints, or both.. In all cases, robust evidence on the quality of provider fever case management is vital to monitor and course-correct programming, and formally evaluate programs. As a part of the Unitaid-funded Private Sector RDT project, PSI regularly fielded client exit interviews and mystery client visits to assess provider quality.. The Fever case management Mystery client study questionnaire is used to assess provider adherence to fever treatment algorithms for malaria test-negative ...

Most problems with questionnaire analysis can be traced back to the design phase of the project. Well-defined goals are the best way to assure a good questionnaire design. When the goals of a study can be expressed in a few clear and concise sentences, the design of the questionnaire becomes considerably easier. The questionnaire is developed to directly address the goals of the study.. One of the best ways to clarify your study goals is to decide how you intend to use the information. Do this before you begin designing the study. This sounds obvious, but many researchers neglect this task. Why do research if the results will not be used? Be sure to commit the study goals to writing. Whenever you are unsure of a question, refer to the study goals and a solution will become clear. Ask only questions that directly address the study goals. Avoid the temptation to ask questions because it would be interesting to know.. As a general rule, with only a few exceptions, long questionnaires get less ...

The results of this study show that, in comparison with the gold standard CRQ-IL, the CRQ-SR detects similar levels of fatigue, mastery, and emotional function. Cook et al,13 in their comparison of the interviewer and self-reported formats of the Asthma Quality of Life Questionnaire, concluded that questionnaires which are designed to ascertain problems and dysfunction in patients with chronic illness produce similar results even when using different questionnaire formats. The results of our study are consistent with this finding, particularly for the standardised dimensions of emotional function, fatigue, and mastery.. In the comparison of the two different formats of the CRQ, patients were not informed of their dyspnoea responses from the CRQ-IL when they completed the CRQ-SR. It is therefore not surprising that we found a significant difference between the mean scores for the dyspnoea dimension (although the difference did not reach the threshold of the minimum clinically important ...
A user experience questionnaire is deceptively simple: its just a standard list of questions for you to ask yourself about a product or user experience at the start of any engagement. Why not just start working on the user experience and see where things go? In theory, if a product has a clear purpose and a specific audience, and you have some good ideas for how to improve the user experience, then youre all set. Of course, product design can go off track for any number of reasons. UX work, in particular, often is brought in as a silver bullet to solve what can be a dizzying set of challenges, ranging from lack of product strategy to issues with the organizational structure. The user interface is often where these problems become visible.. A good user experience questionnaire can help you spot issues early on, which puts you in a better position to point out all those red flags and prevent them from putting the design at risk. On a more practical level, a user experience questionnaire can also ...

Online research surveys has its own shapes and forms - marketing, academic studies, customer experience and satisfaction and so on. However, the most fundamental and success-determining factor amongst all surveys is their quality of questionnaire.. Companies often invest heavily in purchasing survey samples, however, no matter how strong respondent database is, its the questionnaire that plays the biggest role. Think of it as a marketing pitch. If your pitch is right, then even the toughest prospects crack and you make a sale. If the pitch is weak, then even the strongest sales leads may fail.. Demystify your target audience. Even before you kick-start brainstorming your survey questionnaire, what you need to be clear about is your target audience. Then ask yourself - Do these respondents fall under the same demographics or do they vary? If they vary, do the questions need to be the same or different? If different, should there be different questionnaire links or the same link that branches out ...

Background: In recent years, there has been an increasing interest in psychosocial workplace risk assessments in Germany. One of the questionnaires commonly employed for this purpose is the Short Questionnaire for Workplace Analysis (KFZA). Originally, the KFZA was developed and validated for office workers. The aim of the present study was to examine the factorial validity of the KFZA when applied to hospital settings. Therefore, we examined the factorial structure of a questionnaire that contained all the original items plus an extension adding 11 questions specific to hospital workplaces and analyzed both, the original version and the extended version. Methods: We analyzed questionnaire data of a total of 1731 physicians and nurses obtained over a 10-year period. Listwise exclusion of data sets was applied to account for variations in questionnaire versions and yielded 1163 questionnaires (1095 for the extended version) remaining for factor analysis.
