The professional practice of behavior analysis is one domain of behavior analysis: the others being radical behaviorism, experimental analysis of behavior and applied behavior analysis. The professional practice of behavior analysis is the delivery of interventions to consumers that are guided by the principles of behaviorism and the research of both the experimental analysis of behavior and applied behavior analysis. Professional practice seeks maximum precision to change behavior most effectively in specific instances. Behavior analysts are mental health professionals and, in some states, may hold a license, certificate or registration as a behavior analyst. In other states, there are no laws governing their practice and, as such, the practice may be prohibited as falling under the practice definition of other mental health professionals. This is rapidly changing as Behavior Analysts are becoming more and more common. The professional practice of behavior analysis is a hybrid discipline with ...

Description: Behavior analysts routinely speak in front of interdisciplinary teams, collaborators, peers, and colleagues. Whether presenting research or advocating behavioral practices, public speaking is a job requirement for many behavior analysts. Yet, behavior analytic training often excludes this critical skillset. Beyond the importance of representing themselves well, behavior analysts often find themselves needing to convince outside professionals of the legitimacy of their science or practice, placing the behavior analyst in an even more substantial role as ambassador of the discipline. This workshop provides foundational knowledge and strategies for professional-level public speaking. Topics covered include: planning for public addresses, outline a successful story to tell, slide deck development, stage presence, and general trips and strategies to handle public speaking. Attendees will leave the workshop with timelines to prepare talks, outlines and templates for creating presentation ...
Abstract: Professional behavior analysts are expected to refer to the scholarly literature to guide their evidence-based clinical practices. Further, practicing behavior analysts will typically have multiple occasions to seek guidance with ethical decision making throughout their careers. The current symposium will include an overview of research and initiatives to assist professional behavior analysts with these tasks. The first presentation reports on a study of professional behavior analysts literature search practices. Bank and Ingvarsson implemented an online survey, followed by interviews and self-monitoring with practicing BCBAs. The data suggest many participants search for literature at least once per month. Satisfaction with current literature resources decreased for those participants without a university library. Many professionals report conference attendance as a source of literature access. Juanico, Valentino and LeBlanc describe the development of a literature request service for ...

John W. Loftus, Why I Became an Atheist: A Former Preacher Rejects Christianity, revised and expanded (Amherst, NY: Prometheus Books, 2012).. My original intention was to write a single, long review of John Loftus magnum opus. Given the substantial length of the book (536 pages) this was a goal that would have to wait until August of this year. However, Ive had a change of heart. After finding some time to read the first three chapters Ive decided to do a multi-part review and to kick it off with a few articles engaging with the first three chapters.. Before I get to the book, let me address some comments John Loftus made in my blog when he learned I was going to be reviewing his book. (See the discussion in Two new books for review.) He lists off six points. Ill quote and respond to three of them.. First, he writes:. I share my personal story from beginning to end (last chapter). The story itself has nothing to do with the actual arguments I present in the book as a whole. My challenge ...

When a cat or dog prefers cycling through new foods rather than eating the same old thing, that is referred to as neophilia. Neophilic animals like things that are novel, new, not tried before, or at least not recently. In some animals, this is simply just the way they are, as some cats and dogs simply get bored of a certain food or toy more easily than others. Cats are often especially known for displaying neophilia, and oftentimes keep their people guessing as to what type of food might be acceptable. In some cases, though, neophilia can indeed be a cause for concern. Especially if your furbaby begins showing increased habits of neophilia, such as if they suddenly start acting bored of the food theyve always enjoyed and instead start to prefer only new varieties, it might be time for a date with the vet. This is of course especially the case if you are noticing other simultaneous symptoms, such as weight loss, lethargy, vomiting, or diarrhea. In some cases, a cat or dog who does not feel well ...

John Loftus co-wrote the excellent book called The Secret War Against the Jews. When I say excellent, I mean it is full of very intriguing facts. On the other hand, the central thesis, that Israel is entitled to do whatever the hell it wants because it is fighting a war against vicious anti-Semites in positions of highest power all over the world who are working in concert to destroy it and the Jewish people, is not only nonsense, but the most pernicious nonsense possible. So you have to take what Loftus says with a huge grain of salt. He is now claiming, in an interview with Fox News (suspicious already!), that the supposed ringleader of the London bombs, Haroon Rashid Aswat, was working for MI6, who protected him from American arrest (for what it is worth, the role of Haroon Rashid Aswat is now being downplayed by the British police). Loftus expressly ties (or here; and see here for a broader analysis) this intelligence relationship to the British policy of tolerance of Islamist radical ...

Boulby School educated the children from the iron sheeting clad cottages locally known as Tin City Boulby. This is the class of 1936 and is possibly the last photograph of pupils at the school. We are aware that in May 1936 Mr Robert Graham (of 18 Boulby Cottages) submitted a petition signed by 22 of the residents to the Minister of Health in London objecting to Loftus Urban District Councils clearance order which stated the properties were unfit for human habitation. Shortly after that they were rehoused in Coronation Road, Loftus; interestingly one of the other residents of Tin City also maintained a small shop and despite a promise from Loftus Urban District Council, no shop was ever built on the Coronation Road estate.. Fitzgeralds target in the witness box was Elizabeth F. Loftus, a professor of criminology and psychology at the University of California at Irvine. For more than an hour of the pretrial hearing, Loftus calmly explained to Judge Reggie B. Walton her three decades of expertise in human memory and witness testimony. Loftus asserted that, after copious scientific research, she has found that many potential jurors do not understand the limits of memory and that Libby should be allowed to call an expert to make that clear to them.. But when Fitzgerald got his chance to cross-examine Loftus about her findings, he had her stuttering to explain her own writings and backpedaling from her earlier assertions. Citing several of her publications, footnotes and the work of her peers, Fitzgerald got Loftus to acknowledge that the methodology she had used at times in her long academic career was not that scientific, that her conclusions about memory were conflicting, and that she had exaggerated a figure and a ...

Rossi chose the superhero for her because she had just finished radiation therapy prior to her photo shoot, but still did her poses with fierceness, he wrote. Sofie is a real fighter and fits perfectly as Wonder Woman!. From the start of Sofies treatment in January she has never complained once at all, her father, Andrew Loftus, told ABC News. It was amazing to see her look as strong as she felt. Mind blowing, really. It totally changed her outlook on everything as well. Shes had a positive attitude through everything but seeing herself as this superhero, actually as Wonder Woman, it was amazing to see her light up. ...
The BIP is the master plan formulated by the behavior analyst for altering the environment or consequences.. In schools, according to definitions established by the Federal IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act), a BIP is either accompanied with or supplanted by a document called an Individualized Education Plan, or IEP. The IEP will typically cover topics and activities beyond just behavior, but the ABA working on the case will establish the behavior modification aspects of the plan in coordination with other education and healthcare professionals working on the case.. The BIP or IEP establishes the overall strategy and the specific tactics to be used in altering the patients behavior.. BIPs are often more formal than FBAs. They will be typed up on a form that lists the problematic behaviors drawn from the FBA together with a list of objectives that that ABA has established for the patient. The objectives will typically be related to the behaviors but are often stair-stepped toward ...
While data are essential to behavior analysis, collecting the type of data that behavior analysts often require can be a labor-intensive and time-consuming task. There have been many attempts to reduce the amount of time and effort required to collect behavioral data; most research in this area has been focused on computerized or electronic ways to do this (Dixon, 2003). While electronic data collection seems to be gaining popularity within applied behavior analysis, many obstacles still exist. The purpose of this project was to design a data collection system that is cost-efficient, adaptable, easy to use, and effective at increasing data collection adherence. All the programmed technology used in this study is free and can be downloaded onto any device that runs Apple iOS, Google Android, or Microsoft Windows. This study used a customized data spreadsheet with embedded immediate graphic feedback using the Microsoft Excel® app and automatic scheduled prompts using a calendar app. This study used an A

Dear Behavior BFF: My child is 2 ½ and is super defiant. Like he wont do anything I ask him to. Every little thing is a battle. A friend has her 5-year-old on a reward system and recommended that I try it. Hes too young for that, right?. Babys first sticker chart. Thats one that goes in the scrapbook, right? The first time you put your kid on a token economy? Next to a lock of their hair? No. Hmmm…it would be if a behavior analyst was into scrapbooking.. Not too long ago my little one turned sassy. Like overnight. Anything I said was meant with a high pitched NO! She would demand me to do things Mommy play now! It was grating on my ears.. The knee-jerk parenting reaction to a new ugly behavior in your home is consequences. What consequences should this child have for talking so rudely to her mom?. My daughter was maybe 22 months at this time. Not even two years old. Were talking a tiny 24lb dictator screeching at me incessantly. I wasnt sure what to do but I knew I could not live ...

Whats worse for me, is witnessing the potential drained from some younger Autistic youth. One of them--who I will simply call N-- was told the dreaded phrase quiet hands simply for rubbing their palms on their desk and rocking back-and-forth when I allowed them to borrow my earbuds when the music class became a sensory nightmare. There were behavior analysts speaking about their struggles when they were walking right alongside them, hearing everything they could say, but not bothering to include them in the conversation about their own emotions and education. N communicates mostly via echolalia and gestures, but is denied access to an AAC device, even a no-tech solution such as writing in a notepad--but, they sure are great at forcing verbal speech out of them. N can read and write, but was forbidden to take the same test as the other students, despite the fact that it was multiple-choice and fill-in-the-blank. I was not permitted to help N, either. ...

US Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh and Christine Blasey Ford, the woman who says he sexually assaulted her decades ago, both say they are convinced their recollections of the past are correct. Elizabeth Loftus, a cognitive psychologist and professor at the University of California, Irvine, says its possible that both are entirely sincere. Loftus has spent decades researching human memory, and how those memories can change based on suggestion and other factors -- notably in the legal context.
This book takes an object-oriented approach to Java using it in a way that is appropriate for those just learning to write high-quality programs. The book features both text-based and GUI-based examples to demonstrate computing concepts and provide readers with maximum versatility. This title has an early evolution of object concepts, developed in a way that capitalizes on the power of objects without overwhelming beginning programmers. It places less empahsis on applets and more emphasis on GUI-based applications, while still maintaining a clean division between graphical and non-graphical topics. This book is appropriate for beginning programmers who want to learn to program with Java as well as experienced programmers who want to add Java to their skill-set.
