The study aimed to assess the feasibility and acceptability of adapting and implementing a brief PST intervention for prison staff and prisoners at risk of self-harm. Our results indicate that staff can be trained in using these skills, although most were unable to implement them with those who self-harmed. Prison staff faced severe time pressures, and limited resources making it difficult to accommodate the translation of knowledge into practice. This is a common problem in the design and implementation of complex interventions in organisations other than healthcare.19 These findings emerged during the implementation phase. The brief nature of the training sessions themselves did not, perhaps, facilitate the expression of these doubts or tackle approaches to translation of skills into practice in a pressured environment.. A set of problem-solving tasks for the subject of biology has been created thanks to this thesis. Sixty-eight students of a chosen grammar school, precisely of the first, second and third grade checked the seventeen created tasks. The problem-solving tasks were understood well by all students and raised their interest. The reaction to the tasks processing was positive even though the students have dealt with this method for the first time. Accuracy of biological data was examined during the checking process. Almost half of the answerers solved the given tasks successfully. The used questionnaire survey showed that the method is liked and very effective in practical use. Comparison of the right answers with school assessment of students proved that the method is beneficial to students with lower educational results. This study examined abstract reasoning ability as a predictor of success in high school algebra controlling for age, motivation, and previous math achievement. A valid and reliable instrument, the Abstract Reasoning Assessment (ARA), a matrix completion instrument based upon a protocol by Embretson (1998), was developed for the study. Motivation was measured using the Personal Achievement Goal Orientations scale (Midgeley, 2000). Previous math achievement was measured using the course grade from the previous years math course. Success in algebra was measured by the final exam grade from a first year high school algebra course. 220 ninth grade students took part in the study. A multiple regression analysis found that abstract reasoning ability explained a significant proportion of the variance in high school algebra performance beyond that explained by previous math achievement, motivation and age. Objective: This study examined whether differences in habitual negative self-thinking and coping strategies might contribute to the age differences in worry and depression. Method: 60 undergraduate students (age range: 18-24 years, M = 19.10, SD = 1.3) and 45 community-dwelling older adults (age range: 60-89 years, M = 73.5, SD = 7.5) participated. Participants completed self-report measures of worry, depression, negative self-thinking, and coping styles. Results: We replicated previous findings that older adults were less worried and less depressed than younger adults. Older adults also reported engaging in less habitual negative thinking and using more problem solving as a coping strategy than younger adults.
