Objective To study the effect of Potentilla anserina L.on apoptosis of cultured neonatal rat cardiomyocytes induced by hypoxia and its possible mechanism. Methods A model of hypoxia injury was established by using primary cultured myocytes of neonatal SD rats.Using HE staining,Hochest-PI staining and technique of transmission electron microscopy(TEM),the morphological changes of cardiac myocytes were observed. The mechanism was studied using immunohistochemical staining of P53 protein at molecular biological level. Results Compared with hypoxic model group and normal control group, the extract of Potentilla anserina L.in alcohol could significantly attenuate the injurious changes, such as swelling, fragmentation and condensation of nucleus and could downregulate the expression of P53 protein(P0.01).Conclusion Potentilla anserina L.has a notable attenuating effect on apoptosis of cardiomyocytes induced by hypoxia. This effect might be related to regulating the expression of P53 protein.
Objectives: The purpose of this present study was to analyze several fluoride-based varnishes: Silver diamine fluoride (SDF), nanosilver fluoride (NSF), and propolis fluoride (PPF). Fluoride-based varnish is proven to act as antibacterial and remineralization agents that arrested caries progression with minimal side effects. SDF, the golden standard for this study, was compared to NSF and PPF, which were made in our own laboratory, to evaluate their ability to release calcium, phosphate, and fluoride ions and act as anticariogenic agents.. Methods: Human dentin discs were prepared and divided into control groups and treatment groups with SDF (38%), NSF (3.16%, 3.66%, and 4.16%), and PPF (3%, 6%, and 10%). The dentin discs were demineralized using a demineralization solution (pH 4.4) for 96 h. Each dentin disc in the treatment group received a topical application of various fluoride-based varnishes and then was subjected to pH-cycling for 8 days. The quantity of calcium, phosphate, and fluoride ...

Description: This is a large genus of over 100 species found in Asia and North America. Wild cane is a type of bamboo native to north Florida and the eastern United States. As a group, bamboos are important sources of food (bamboo shoots) and building materials. Wild cane is found in moist sites, in the open or along a woodland edge. The tall subspecies can grow to over twenty feet tall. It is a stoloniferous plant that spreads rapidly in a suitable environment. Like other bamboos, a colony may die after flowering. Where the stems grow large, they are harvested for use as poles and have been used commercially in the manufacture of fishing poles. Reports of uses by native Americans includes the manufacture of homes, rafts, bows and arrows, blow guns, spears, flutes, woven items like mats and baskets, the seeds ground as flour, and treatments for a variety of ailments.. ...

At first I didnt particularly like this shrub, and would have had it out, except that Mr S liked it. It would therefore seem quite disingenuous of me to dig the Potentilla out whilst he was away running model layouts at the weekend with friends! Besides which, I felt it had earned a little reprieve having flowered its little socks off almost until Christmas. Usually if I like a shrub or plant I carefully research and prepare for the best way to reduce or transplant it...if I dont, I usually just go for it. I have since read that from time to time Potentillas do need a seeing to and will bounce back from even the harshest of prunnings....so it will recover, but maybe not flower until 2019 ...
Targeted grazing by sheep or goats is a potentially useful tool for suppressing the noxious weed sulfur cinquefoil (Potentilla recta L.). However, possible transmission of weed seeds by grazing livestock is a serious ecological concern that must be addressed in any targeted grazing prescription. We investigated the effect of sheep and goat digestion on the viability of sulfur cinquefoil seeds collected from live plants growing on a foothill rangeland site in southwestern Montana. Eight sheep and eight goats (all wethers) were each gavaged with 5 000 sulfur cinquefoil seeds. Four animals of each species received immature seeds, and four animals received mature seeds. All animals were fed ground grass hay in excess daily, and intake averaged 2.0% body weight d-1. Total fecal collection began immediately after gavaging and continued for 7 consecutive days. Once each day, all identifiable sulfur cinquefoil seeds were recovered and counted from fecal subsamples. Seed viability before gavaging ...

Potentilla erecta is a low, clump-forming plant with slender, procumbent to arcuately upright stalks, growing 10-30 centimetres (3.9-11.8 in) tall and with non-rooting runners. It grows wild predominantly in Scandinavia, Europe, and western Asia[1] mostly on acid soils in a wide variety of habitats, such as mountains, heaths, meadows, sandy soils and dunes.[3] This plant is flowering from May to August/September. There is one yellow, 7-11 millimetres (0.28-0.43 in) wide flower, growing at the tip of a long stalk. There are almost always four notched petals, each with a length between 3 and 6 mm. Four petals are rather uncommon in the rose family. The petals are somewhat longer than the sepals. There are 20-25 stamens. The radical leaves have a long petiole, while the leaves on the flowering stalks are usually sessile or with short petioles. The glossy leaves are alternate, ternate, consisting of three obovate leaflets with serrate margins. The paired stipules are leaflike and palmately lobed. ...
The aim of the present study was to examine the effects of phenylpropanoid glycoside, teupolioside, biotechnologically produced by IRBN22 Ajuga reptans cell line, in rats subjected to experimental colitis. Colitis was induced in rats by intracolonic instillation of dinitrobenzene sulfonic acid (DNBS). Teupolioside was administered daily orally (0.2 or 2 mg kg-1). On Day 4, animals were sacrificed and tissues were taken for histological and biochemical analysis. Four days after DNBS administration, colon TNF-α and IL-1β productions were increased, associated with colon damage. Neutrophil infiltration, by myeloperoxidase activity, in the mucosa was associated with up-regulation of ICAM-1 and P-selectin and high levels of malondialdehyde. Immunohistochemistry for nitrotyrosine and poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP) showed an intense staining in the inflamed colon. Biochemical methods and zymography were used to analyze MMP-9 and -2 activities in colon tissues from DNBS-injured rats. Treatment ...

Indian Wild Strawberry is a wild flower which has a bad reputation. I thought this invasive groundcover was poisonous, but around the world many eat not just the berry but the whole plant. The internet is full of information on the plants health and medicinal benefits. Duchesnea indica has many common names. Indian Strawberry, False Strawberry, Mock Strawberry, and She Mei are a few of its nicknames. In fact the plant is now placed in the Rose Family with the scientific name of Potentilla indica, (poh-ten-TIL-ah inn-DEE-kuh). The Rosoideae (Rose Family) has been subject to reorganization based on recent genetic analysis. It has been shown that both the wild strawberries (formerly Fragaria) and the Indian strawberries (formerly Duchesnea) are actually all part of the larger Potentilla within the Rose Family. This miniature plant looks like a common edible strawberry plant except for size and a yellow rather than white flower. This wildflower will grow anywhere from shade to full sun. The ...

Shares of Pacific Biosciences are priced below $10 largely because, like the two companies already mentioned, profits have yet to materialize. The good news for PacBio is that it is experiencing strong revenue growth -- from less than $2 million in 2010 to over $60 million last year. And its losses are on a downward trajectory.. One key challenge for PacBio, though, is to find a way to become profitable before its cash stockpile of just over $101 million runs out. The company must do so while facing a large successful rival in Illumina.. A real possibility for PacBio is that it gets scooped up by a major player. There has been plenty of speculation that Roche could decide to buy PacBio. The two companies have been partners since 2013. Roche made an attempt that same year to acquire Illumina but ultimately pulled the plug on the deal. I wouldnt be surprised to see Roche eventually become a white knight for PacBio -- with a price tag well above the small genetics companys current level.. ...

The client brief was to create a garden filled with colour, warmth and vitality. Anchoring the brick house into the landscape, whilst cocooning the internal swimming pool section jutting from the property into the garden were a priority. We also needed to disguise a long run of utilitarian garage roof.. The garden was originally structured with a 2-metre high retaining wall, which at points was within a metre of the property elevation. This wall was carefully removed, and the land pushed back and graded. Our garden build contractor team then gently layered the site with bands of planted brick retaining walls.. Now, generous step proportions lead though planes of plants and paving up into the surrounding extensive lawns. Warm tones of slate breathe life into the landscape, the tones and texture echoed in the naturalistic planting selections of Hemerocallis, Lysimachia and Potentilla.. Feature heavy standard hornbeam balls formed a stately but natural screen, lending the garden weight and an upper ...

If Illumina doesnt solve this problem, and make sure the recipes are widely and freely available, then the problem may well be solved for them -- by their competitors. Amplicon resequencing is GnuBios first targeted market, and for many applications their claimed minor allele sensitivity (1%, I believe), low cost per run and simple workflow may take a lot of business.
