Purpose: : The most common sight threatening complication of cataract surgery is posterior capsular rupture associated with vitreous presentation into the anterior chamber. The goals of anterior vitrectomy are to completely remove the vitreous in the anterior chamber while maintaining lens capsule integrity, minimizing retinal traction and the amount of vitreous removed. This study compares anterior vitrectomy via limbal versus pars plana approach in an induced posterior capsular rupture during phacoemulsification in cadaveric pig eyes. Methods: : Cataract extraction via phacoemsulsification was performed on five cadaveric pig eyes. A posterior capsular rupture was induced using a cystotome, and pressure was applied to fill the anterior chamber with vitreous. Indocyanine green (ICG) was injected to enhance vitreous visualization. A limbal anterior vitrectomy (LAV) was performed in 2 eyes and a pars plana anterior vitrectomy (PPAV) in 3 eyes. The length of time to completely remove the ICG ...
A total of 150 213 cataract operations were registered with an overall PCR rate of 3.2%. Risk indicators for PCR from multiple logistic regression were advancing age, male gender (95% CI 1.04 to 1.17; OR 1.11), pseudoexfoliation (95% CI 1.02 to 1.82; OR 1.36), phacomorphic lens (95% CI 1.25 to 3.06; OR 1.96), diabetes mellitus (95% CI 1.13 to 1.29; OR 1.20) and renal failure (95% CI 1.09 to 1.55; OR 1.30). Surgical PCR risk factors were combined vitreoretinal surgery (95% CI 2.29 to 3.63; OR 2.88) and less experienced cataract surgeons. Extracapsular cataract extraction (95% CI 0.76 to 0.91; OR 0.83) and kinetic anaesthesia were associated with lower PCR rates.. CONCLUSIONS ...
All twenty-five eyes with intumescent white cataract were successfully completed femtosecond laser-assisted capsulotomy under OCT monitoring. In all cases, the intraocular lens was centered and the implantation was uneventful. None of the pouch distorted and suspensory ligament rupture, and complications directly related to the laser. Radial anterior tears occurred in 1 eyes, an adherent tongue-like capsule adhesion in 3 eyes, and an incomplete capsulotomy button in1 eyes. But the surgery was still successfully completed, posterior capsular rupture and vitreous prolapse did not occur, and 6 months of follow-up after surgery did not detecte obvious IOL eccentric or tilted. The mean deviation from the target diameter of the extracted capsule disks was 60 μm ± 44 (SD ...
Posterior capsular rupture is encountered by all cataract surgeons. The biggest challenge a surgeon has is managing the complication and even bigger challenge is in choosing the right kind of intra ocular lens for the patient. Here in this video we demonstrate a series of challenging case scenarios where in we use the same IOL in the bag and we explain scientifically on how to conquer the PCR ...
Results At 18 months follow-up, the mean postoperative UDVA and CDVA in Snellens decimal equivalent was 0.42±0.16 and 0.91±0.2, respectively. There was a significant improvement in the UDVA (p=0.001) and CDVA (p=0.002). Nucleus drop occurred following intraoperative posterior capsular rupture in 25 eyes (73.5%), zonular weakness in 5 eyes (14.8%) and post-trauma in 4 eyes (11.7%). In the early postoperative period, corneal oedema was seen in 2 eyes, pigment dispersion in 3 eyes and vitritis in 2 eyes. There was loss of CDVA in 1 (2.9%) eye due to persistent cystoid macular oedema. UBM did not reveal any vitreous incarceration into the sclerotomy site.. ...

Posterior capsular rupture is a relatively rare complication, occurring in 0.9% of patients undergoing cataract surgery.7 Postsurgical aphakia and traumatic and nontraumatic dislocation of the IOL continue to be challenges for ophthalmologists when surgical correction is intended.8,9. Different techniques and lens designs exist for the management of aphakia without capsular support. Anterior chamber IOLs, scleral-sutured lenses, posterior chamber iris-sutured IOLs, and anterior and posterior chamber iris-fixated IOLs are the most widely used.2,4,8,10. Anterior chamber IOLs are technically simple to place, but they are associated with a considerable risk of trabecular damage, secondary glaucoma, and corneal decompensation.9 The currently used open-loop anterior chamber IOLs have lowered these complications, but a preoperative endothelial cell count and a measurement of anterior chamber depth are mandatory.10-12. In 2000, Zeh and Price described a technique for posterior chamber iris IOL ...
Spectral Domain (SD)-OCT-imaging was conducted preoperatively at the day 0 and at one-month post-operative visit. Clinical characteristics (ocular posterior segment status, duration and type of diabetes, glycemic control, topical and systemic medication) and surgical parameters (e.g. phaco energy, operation time, use of pupil extension device) were recorded. Main outcome measure: Change in mean central retinal thickness (CRT) and incidence of CME at one-month ...

In fact, more than half the people over age 65 have some form of cataract development. A cataract is a clouding of the lens in
CPP (5[6]-carboxyfluorescein-RRRRRR-COOH) synthesis was performed on a 1-mmol scale on preloaded Fmoc-Nw-(2,2,4,6,7-pentamethyldihydrobenzofuran-5-sulfonyl)-L-arginine Wang resin (Sigma-Aldrich, Poole, UK) (loading rate 0.62 mmol g−1) using standard Fmoc-amino acid solid-state peptide synthesis protocols. The initial Fmoc group was removed by deprotection with 20% piperidine in N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF) (3 × 20 minutes), followed by coupling with Fmoc-Nw-(2,2,4,6,7-pentamethyldihydrobenzofuran-5-sulfonyl)-L-arginine in the presence of O-(6-chlorobenzotriazol-1-yl)-N,N,N′,N′-tetramethyluronium hexafluorophosphate (HCTU), N,N-diisopropylethylamine (DIPEA), and DMF in a 1:5:5:10 molar ratio. The reaction was agitated at room temperature for 8 hours, and some of the resin was tested for reaction completion using the ninhydrin test following standard protocols.25 The coupling and deprotection steps were repeated until the peptide sequence reached a total of six arginine residues. The final ...
Introduction: The evaluation and measurement of human body dimensions are achieved by physical anthropometry. Cephalometery is a branch of anthropometry science in which the head and face anatomical dimensions are measured. This research was conducted in view of the importance of anthropometric indices of the face in forensic medicine, surgery, paediatrics and medical imaging. Methods: This descriptive and cross-sectional study was set up to determine and compare the face shapes in Fars and Turkman ethnic groups of 808 normal 17- to 20-year-old males and females in Gorgon, North Iran (Fars group 407, male 200 and female 207; Turkman group 401, male 198 and female 203). The length and width of faces were determined by using classic cephalometery technique with Martin spreading callipers, and the shape of faces in the ethnic group of Fars and Turkman in both sexes was compared. Results: The dominant type of face shape in both the native Fars and Turkman females was euryprosopic (37.7 and 51.7 ...

It happens to all surgeons, and it is much more common in beginning surgeons: rupture of the posterior capsule during cataract surgery. The rate among resident surgeons in training is about 5% for the first few hundred surgeries. Very experienced surgeons have a rate of much less than 1%. But even still, it will rarely…
An imaging system in which images are formed by image-wise exposing a layer containing a chromogenic material and a photosensitive composition in which at least the photosensitive composition is encapsulated in a layer of pressure rupturable capsules. Exposure and capsule rupture renders the chromogenic material image-wise accessible to the developer for a patterned image forming reaction.
