The immobilization of the particles on the PC microspores is performed via inverse solvent displacement method. PMSQ particles are added to a PC solution in tetrahydrofuran (THF), a good solvent for PC. The solution is then precipitated by the introduction of aqueous surfactant solution (antisolvent for PC) under an ultrasonic field. The ion release profiles and bioactivity of a series of Ti containing glass polyalkenoate cements (GPCs). Characterization revealed each material to be amorphous with a Tg in the region of 650-660ºC. The network connectivity decreased (1.83-1.35) with the addition of TiO2 which was also evident with analysis by X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS). The present work describes a selection of strategies for the synthesis of functional aliphatic polycarbonates. Using an end-group functionalization strategy, a series of DNA-binding cationic poly(trimethylene carbonate)s was synthesized for application as vectors for non-viral gene delivery. As the end-group functionality was identical in all polymers, the differences observed in DNA binding and in vitro transfection studies were directly related to the length of the hydrophobic poly(trimethylene carbonate) backbone and the number of functional end-groups. This enabled the use of this polymer system to explore the effects of structural elements on the gene delivery ability of cationic polymers, revealing striking differences between different materials, related to functionality and cationic charge density.. A new surfactant combination compatible with concrete formulation is proposed to avoid unwanted air bubbles created during mixing process in the absence of a defoamer and to achieve the uniform and the maximum possible dispersion of multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) in water and subsequently in concrete. To achieve this goal, three steps have been defined: (1) concrete was made with different types and amount of surfactants containing a constant amount of MWCNTs (0.05 wt%) and the air bubbles were eliminated with a proper defoamer. (2) Finding a compatible surfactant with concrete compositions and eliminating unwanted air bubbles in the absence of a common defoamer are of fundamental importance to significantly increase concrete mechanical properties. In this step, the results showed that the polycarboxylate superplasticizer (SP-C) (as a compatible surfactant) dispersed MWCNTs worse than SDS/DTAB but unwanted air bubbles were removed, so the defoamer can be omitted in the mixing process.
